This was my first time donating at Vitalant. Everyone was super friendly and very professional. Hoping everyone who's healthy will go donate soon!

Ask the Community - Vitalant Blood Donation - Glendale

Can anyone tell me if there is a lot of paperowrk to fill out once you get there? Is it a long process? Or do they have like a digital kiosk where you can fill everything out?

Every time you go you have to fill out a questionnaire. You can fill out the questionnaire online before you head over, or there are kiosks at the center. As for your 1st donation, I'm not sure about the initial documents.…

I just started donating at the beginning of the month so this may not be as objective BUT. I think…read moreit takes longer than it should due to awkward staffing. There is always a much longer wait at some point in the process than seems reasonable. The first donation you think.... O.K. I had to wait to see the nurse and it was an extra busy day. No, if you are ever referred to a nurse again for a quick question or confirmation that you can donate that day.....add on at least another half hour in wait time. If the screening counter is quick the bed wait is ridiculous. This last time, the screener spent the whole time chatting with another employee across the room about how she applied elsewhere for a job and (because I know the screen process by now) she skipped a few, granted probably not critical, steps. I know there are dedicated folks that have been here a while but for the most, these are people moving on shortly, putting in their time until they can do something else. Not as satisfying of an experience as I hoped. I will be checking out other plasma donation facilities. They are clearly under staffed.

Everything! Tonight was my second visit. I did exactly what was told to me on Saturday and went to…read morecheck in. I waited in line until a computer opened because they only have . I tried twice and twice the computer said I could not donate and had to speak to a staff member. I waited in line. There was only one guy at the desk and he had to call someone else and the parking lot on both sides were full so there were a lot of people there. This was at 5:30 tonight. I had an appointment for 630 and I thought by going early I might be seen earlier. stupid me. So I talked to the staff member and he said that since they did not give blood from me on Saturday, they had to check for a better vein today on the other arm. So we checked my other arm and it had "one small vein". He told me that would do and go back to the computers to sign in so I waited in line again. about 10 minutes later I got to the computer. I finished that and I was told by a staff member to go stand in the line that waits for donating and there was about 15 people in line. So I waited in line again. About 10 minutes later staff member came up and said I was in the wrong line, that I had to go get my blood checked again. I told her I had already done that last week and she said "it gets done every time." so I left that line to go stand in a different line again. Thankfully, that one was short, and I went up to the guy, and although my name is very easy to spell, it took him seven tries with me, spelling it each time. After I told him the frustration I had tonight, he said I'll have to see the nurse again. I told him I already saw the nurse on Saturday. He said "you have to see her again because you got a bruise on your arm." at that point I've had enough of waiting in line, and wrong information and I left. I've been there 40 minutes and was nowhere near getting to my blood donation with my appointment at 6:30.. as I went to leave I talked to the manager who I had talked to earlier about the debacle and he said "right well the nurse had to see you because of the bruise on your arm" and we got me so angry about that is that if he knew that, then why did he tell me to go sign in and stand in the first line??? A business either has good employees or they don't. A business either prospers or folks based on employees. I was given the runaround for stupid reasons. I could've been told right off the bat what I would be looking at tonight instead of being told to go from one line to another, a total of 4, but I guess they're so used to people not really caring how long they're gonna have to stand around that they figure everybody's the same. Well, I'm not I'm a businesswoman and a healthcare professional and I don't have time to just waste. The other thing that's ridiculous there is I would like someone to answer why we make an appointment when you have no intention of meeting it.? I had an appointment on Saturday too, but wasn't seen till almost an hour and a half later. When I make an appointment with people to come into my office at 9 o'clock, they're not expecting to see me at 10:30. This is a terrible place. It has no respect for your schedule, your appointment time, or how to communicate with you anything about the procedure. There are other places I can donate at and I'll try there. Bio life is horrible.. do better! Treat people with dignity.

This place is amazing. People at the front always greet with a smile and kindness. The people on the donor floor are quick and professional. There is water and snacks at the entrance. The area is always clean. Two of my experiences there- I broke my glass water bottle on the donor floor, they attended to the problem quickly. They were understanding. Another, is a worker saying a comment in regards to a person asking to pick up their wallet. She made an unnecessary comment about how the wallet doesn't have any money & that's why the young gentleman is there. She has a rude attitude all around.

By the time I'd get to take my vitals my pulse would be a little too high from the stress of having to stand for an hour and being forced to have small talk with very interesting people that won't take the hint you need peace and quiet for your vitals to be in a good range. Then on a few occasions, I got deferred, not because of me, but because of faulty equipment on their end. After trying again after waiting a year nothing changed, well actually the lines and wait time got worse. It would take about 3 hours to get thru a session and you are treated like cattle. I found a new place which I really love. You set an appointment on their website. You sit down and relax until you're called for your vitals and you're in and out in about an hour. It's Grifols... I go to 51st Ave and Northern location, tucked back behind everything next to QT. They have a great new patient program. Just make sure you wait your 7 days when switching centers and you're good to go on your 8th day. The new patient program i think is $675 for your first 8 donations then goes to around $125 a week if you donate 2x a week. Same as CSL. As long as you've never donated here you qualify for the new patient amounts. If you want, use my referral code, it'll help us both. https://identity.grifolsplasmadonorhub.com/donor/SelfRegister?referralCode=VacuumMystic4695&lang=en Hope to see you guys at a place that values your time and your gift!

I want to recognize someone that was extraordinary and went out of his way to help me. I will NEVER forget Mike Kenney-in security! I had just found out my father was having emergency surgery. I raced to the hospital. My dad was waiting in a room at the er. He was going to Pre Op. Mr. Kenney hustled me back to the room-and I was sad to see the bed was gone. He had been taken to pre op. Mr. Kenney could tell I was upset bc I didn't get to see my elderly dad before he went to emergency surgery. He quickly advised me the fastest way to see him. I know this doesn't seem like a lot-but I am forever grateful bc I got to spend time with him right before surgery. I was also there to support my mom who was very worried. If it weren't for Mike-I wouldn't have been there for my mom or got to hug my dad. I am forever grateful. He didn't have to go out of his way to help me. I will say not all staff will fall in this category but unfortunately the one nurse on the 4th floor, Pavilion 2 orthopedic unit RUDE!!! There's no reason to come into work with an attitude when your patients and their family members are helping with their recovery. Thank goodness she wasn't his nurse just a rude one at the nurses station. They always say family is a part of a patients care and the only thing I inquired about was someone to come and clean a restroom because housekeeping wasn't there yesterday and he didn't want to sit on it. If you know you know how some meds will do you. But that nurse stood out the most for her rudeness. I get it, we're all stressed but don't be rude for an already stressful situation. But the other staff I found to be nice and accommodating and made sure I was comfortable knowing I was staying with my family member. Thank you to the staff that showed up to their jobs as professionals. What I've learned, you can't be a voice for the patient and leave the morning crew alone. Terrible!!! UPDATE: My family member wanted me to make sure to give a special thank you to Ms. Teresa in housekeeping, even she stated if the bathroom ever looks like that again to call her. She gave us her card with the number. Also there were a couple of male nurses John and I forget the really tall male nurse that helped him out of bed and the other male nurse that got me a warm blanket and checked vitals. This is the type of professionalism that we look for in nursing. So the nurses that took care of my family member on July 18th! Thank you. July 19th is when he started complaining about his care.

Nobody would inform me as to what's going on and why it was taking so long for me to be seen. They just managed to say oh we're extremely busy in the back however I saw people come and go that came in after me. One lady you made a comment oh my God she's still here pointing at me. The PA was the most horrible vile person I have ever met in my life when I finally did get called back to a bed it was not for triage. I directly asked the PA to help me as I was in severe pain and I was sick. I was not hostile nor was I in any way shape or form threatening. The next thing I know I have a security guard standing at the foot of my bed saying that I was complained about by the PA. It was extremely annoying and very rude and unnecessary. The security guard left after I explained the situation to him. Next thing I know I'm being taken back out to the waiting room where I sat for two more hours over in pain and vomiting. I was the only one in the entire emergency room. I watched people leave that I had seen come in after me the excuse that they didn't have a bed was a complete lie. After hours of again, waiting in the emergency room, I was taken back to a bed and nothing was done for me except a blood draw. The PA would not come and talk to me and the nurse was nonexistent. I went for a CT scan where they found. I had a kidney stone and a kidney infection. These findings were dismissed by the PA as she barely spoke to me, walking by my room telling me that they would culture my urine for the kidney infection to see what bacteria it would grow. Meanwhile, I left in extreme pain was given a shot of Zofran for the nausea after 4 1/2 going on five hours now, then just discharged. Does anybody know of a good lawyer who handles men malpractice cases?

Fabulous surgeon, but horrible nursing care…read more The staff and doctors in the surgical center were tremendous. They treated the patient with concern, expertise, and respect. Once I was moved to the room, the staff treated me like an inconvenience. One nurse told me she didn't have time to get me pain relief "because she has four other patients". My doctor ordered the pain relief heating pads, but they could not find any of the entire night. I was treated with disrespect, condescending attitudes, ignored, neglected, and Treated with cruelty from the nursing staff overnight. I do have all of the specific issues documented and would be happy to share if it would make a difference to even one patient. Even the hospitalist made it clear it was a bad decision to have the surgery. My surgeon and his staff were outstanding and stopped by regularly to make sure that I was doing well. I think they were as horrified as I was by my treatment. Since I am deaf, I was also discriminated against, and that helped the nursing staff justify ignoring me. The Friday morning staff was superior, but I'm sure that the charge nurse had updated them on the torture, I experienced the previous afternoon and night. I was told someone would be reaching back out to me, but I have heard nothing in just short of a month. My surgeon has reached out multiple times and if it wasn't for his staff, I would describe Boswell as a disgrace. Dr. Brossard is amazing and he shows how caring, concerned and critical patient care should be. Dr. Broussard and his staff are excellent communicators and made sure I knew it was going on every step of the way. The treatment from the nursing staff was just the opposite and there were several patients that felt that we were just inconveniences. The nurses never even got me up to walk, which was supposedly critical to my recovery. After all, they had four other patients. I am terrorized that this is the hospital in my community. I am so grateful for Dr. Broussard and his staff and they're carrying nature as well as his expertise.
