I've been donating blood with this group when they travel to Yuma on and off for about 5 years…read more Today, I signed up and did the questionnaire online. They were set up at Foothills Library. The nurses were health concious, couteous and respectful; they had a nice rapport with each other, probably from traveling all over AZ with the bloodmobile. The room where everything happens had a confortable ac temperture to go with the cleanilness and the music playing overhead. The donation went well, and they watched us donaters as we sat eating chips and hydrating to make sure we were okay. I wish I could Yelp on the library, but didn't have time to look around as I had to leave. The donation website is pretty cool; it gives your chloresterol count, it tracks and adds up bonus points each time you donate, etc etc. It's a good deal. Not everyone is eligible (or wants to) donate blood and I get that; but if you can and are able to, why not? Just saying.

So they do blood drives at my work every three months or so. When the emails come out asking for…read moredonors I always happen to accidentally click the delete button. Oops! Where did it go? Oh well. And I move on with my life. This time, the emails kept coming and the little angel on my shoulder that wills me to do good deeds got a little stern with me so I decided to sign up. I don't think I can explain in a way you might actually understand how nervous I was. The blood drive wasn't for another five days and I already had a knot in my stomach. Then THE DAY came. I was mid splash washing my face that morning when the dread hit me. Thank God I signed up for an early time slot because I wouldn't have made it through the day. I was so worked up I was nauseous. Then one of my sweet coworkers with the best of intentions told me I was supposed to fast so I didn't eat anything. (I'm sure you've guessed by now I'm a first time donor) When it was time for me to donate I went outside to their large portable donor trailer and was greeted by a very cheerful man who didn't look like he intended me any harm. He said I looked pail, I told him it was my first time and I hadn't eaten. He promptly sent me back to get some food in me (Funny how eating made me a little less woosy) and when I came back he took the time to explain the process so I would know what to expect. I was still freaking out, and honestly considered bailing and running away without glancing back, but I had committed to something and I don't back out on my commitments. All of the staff were fantastic. From the intake person who had to deal with me staring at her doe-eyed forgetting my address because I was so nervous to the phlebotomists that set me up to begin my blood donation. One lady was super awesome and saw how tense I was and was telling jokes, singing along to the radio, and just making me feel as at ease as I possibly could be. Since I dared not look at my own blood being pumped out of my arm, I chose to stare at the wall. On the walls they had all of these true life local stories about how blood donations saved people's lives. This is when it all clicked for me. Suddenly I understood that being uncomfortable for just a few minutes meant actually SAVING people. I am so happy they had those stories up there. I was so into them I started looking around for more to read. When I was done I got my juice and cookies and kept thinking about how much blood I could have donated over the years. I know it sounds silly, but I never really thought about what donating blood meant and did for the community. I really encourage everyone to make this a regular part of your giving back. It is free, takes maybe an hour of your time tops, and you are doing something incredibly significant. UBS can count on regular donations from me from this point forward.

Down the road it started being giant vehicles. I never really thought much about donating growing up. The mother of the 2 children we adopted needed blood during delivery of one of the girls, and needed another transfusion when she lost the 3 daughter we were going to adopt. My mom had a leak due to AVM in her intestine several times and needed blood transfusions. I am O positive which is good for being able to help other blood types as well as my own. As much as I donate and being celiac I have to really watch my iron so my levels are high enough to donate.(If you have iron issues do not take a iron vitamin days before to get a good reading as that isn't a proper reading and you will feel really bad after donating and may pass out.) Back in the day I had to watch my weight as I fluctuated between 108 and 111. So sometimes I didn't weight enough. I Wish I had that issue now. (Hehe) There are a lot less qualified donators than there used to be due to STD exposure, low iron and health issues. They will call or email you requesting your blood donating services. You can choose how to be contacted and request not to be with no issues. It is easy to schedule and re schedule with no issues if you get busy or aren't feeling well. I have no health issues from donating all these years. If you have it in you and feel well give it a try. They offer so many locations. It is amazing how much blood is used every day in the hospitals talking with my friends who work there.

My only frustration has ever been finding blood drives near me. The first two were closer but now I'm struggling a bit to find close ones. Other than that, I just wish there were more drives. But my experience has been positive.

She told us to enter the time on the document for a time we were clocked in, which is insurance fraud. So she was demanding we work for free for at least 3 hours a week AND commit insurance fraud. I reported this to the top brass and they laughed about it and did nothing. I also reported a major hipaa violation and was treated like I was a problem employee. The hipaa violation was due to a coworker posting a pic of her desk on social media to at least 1500 ppl. There was a list of about 30 clients on her desk with their full name, date of birth, and phone numbers. I was told it wasn't a big deal I walked out a few days later when the director of my dept started trying to create a paper trail to get me fired. The paper trail was a write up for incompetence but it was a coworker's mistake, not mine, and when Melissa found out she didn't write up that coworker. Melissa told us on her first day of working in our dept that if she didn't like us she knew how to get rid of us. This company needs to be looked at for ins fraud for sure.
