Yes, this course is cheap but that comes at a price to you. We played on 12/27 and, of course, it was busy but you would never know it by the lack of employees. The cart guys were working their butts off but when you go in to check in it is ridiculous!!! There is 1 person working checking people in, serving beer and taking and distributing food orders. She kept looking in the managers office for a little help but he pretended to be on the phone and ultimately closed his door. After our round we wanted a beer and some apps the gal told us she was too busy to come outside to us since she was swamped inside with a large group which was understandable but again she was the only employee in sight. I would think that anyone with half a brain would know that the week after Christmas is going to be swamped and plan accordingly and schedule an extra employee or two. Birch Hills is a great executive course. For a short course it's a little pricey if you want to play and ride, but affordable. Like other reviews have mentioned, the course itself is really well kept. The layout is nice with not too many hazards on the front nine, and a lake on the back nine that comes into play on a couple of holes. It can get pretty busy and backed up on the weekends, but overall a great course to get some practice in. read more

Hosted a white party at Treehouse Bar & Grill at the Birch Hills Golf Course for over 200 people! They were very accommodating. Love the open area from the restaurant to the golf course. I work in Brea and look forward to playing here about twice a month. The course is well kept and extremely player friendly even on the bunker and water hazard holes. Billy Casper manages this course and it couldn't be run more efficiently. Try the lunch special...bucket of balls and a hamburger with chips and soday for $8... To the lady that was upset with the $7 fee for riding...learn to play ...your experience will be much better if you participate. read more

Went to try this place out and hit a few balls at the range. When I went to get the balls from the machine, it spit out a few and stopped. Went to get someone and found out it was empty. They disappeared and I waited about 10 minutes and had to go hunt up someone again. They then said it would be another 25-30 minutes to get it filled up. How do you allow the machine to run empty? Play here often with grandson and the course is very nice with excellent greens however some holes on front nine are really short. Back nine delightful with water fowl adding to the water feature. Little cafe an added bonus with one of the best burgers in town, what a surprise. For an executive course the week end fees are as high as regular courses in the area. Fun little course to work on your game without the stress of holes being too challenging. Great for beginners making the transition to 18 hole courses. Tee boxes were not that great, divots everywhere. Fairways were decent, sand is thin, and greens are good, just a few ball marks here and there. Water comes into play on a couple holes in the back 9. Price is a few bucks more than expected for this type of course, but it is Brea, so you pay the OC premium. Enjoyable course for the higher handicapper and goes at a good pace. read more

I really like this course for a nice relaxing round after work. There is a nice mix of challenges from fairly easy to more challenging, and just plain club-breaking challenges. My personal hell is water hazards, so I tend to stick with the 1st 9 holes. Also, the advantage of the 1st 9 is that you are closer to the clubhouse for beer runs. I like that the course is well managed, so play is fairly consistant unless you're having a bad day. read more

We love the prices and the service here. Mel, our waitress, was so sweet! Very personable and attentive. However, we didn't love the guac or salsa, but it was a good deal for the price. Very nice golf course for beginners and intermediate players, especially since its renovation!

First time at Birch recently and I was disappointed by the condition of the course. "Sand" traps in this case is a misnomer. Hard, wet and gravel laced. The course looked as if the groundskeepers turned on all the sprinklers and went home for the night. Muddy Tee boxes are inexcusable and mudholes on the fairways. Nice people working there and a fellow driving around in a cart checking on things - still, we did have to drive around two groups who had fallen behind 3 holes each. This potentially an excellent little layout to practice the short game but conditions took a lot of the fun out of it. Too bad. read more

With the ongoing drought, this executive course is not in great shape but nicely redesigned. I used to play here when it was about $11.00 in the afternoon. Some of the holes had too much watering and the muddy conditions need to be improved. We play weekly and this has been an ongoing problem.

The worst place Iv ever played. I visited a few years ago and it was a nice. Came today (2-5-18) to try and buy a birch hills ball, to add to my collection. The front desk guy, or man since he's old, was so rude. He literally said no we don't have them. What it felt like it was a race issue. I felt the hate radiating off him. He made no effort to check anywhere if they truly were out of stock. I mean seriously what course is out of their own ball. I went to Hacienda Golf Club and they were more welcoming and that's a very private course. They sold me a ball and gave me free stuff. But here at birch unless your white YOU WONT BE TREATED RIGHT ! read more

I live locally and always pass this course on my daily run, so happy I decided to stop for a meal before going home. The staff is super friendly and the place is really clean. I had no idea this was open to the public, so it was nice to walk into an inviting place. I sat down at the bar to have a drink and i overheard the chef explaining some new menu items he was working on, shortly after he brought out a fried shrimp appetizer to all of us at the bar. I'm so glad he did! So flavorful, and it had a delicious sauce to go with it. Definitely great drinking food. I can't wait to come back to try the other things he was talking about. I was told the course is open to the public too and i can't wait to come back with my family. read more

Fun little 18 course with a chance to bring out the driver. We booked on golf now thinking this was a regular 18. Showed up and most of the holes are less then 200. We had a great deal so it was no big deal ended up having a good time and speedy day of golf on a Saturday morning. read more

This is a great neighborhood course and driving range. But if the management is reading this, please consider investing in some new mats for your patrons. Seeing the much anticipated renovation of Birch Hills was exciting for those who live here in Brea. I was so excited when it finally opened. My girlfriends and I decided to get together and learn how to play golf. We all needed lessons and were all mostly real beginners. Some never swung a club, ever. We looked into golf pros locally and found our Pro!! Our pro is Jeanne Weaver!! She had the patience of a saint. We were a pretty rowdy group, but she knew how to handle us. Jeanne is a pro with whom we have the upmost respect. She is always checking up on us and always encouraging us even when we aren't taking lessons. We also all consider her a friend now, too. Thanks Jeanne!! Birch Hills Golf course is now a place we love to get together and not only golf but enjoy the Treehouse. Chef Leo is awesome! He is always hands on, not just in the kitchen but with his guests as well. The menu he presents is not only delicious but creative. Very friendly and courteous staff. They are put in a tough situation not having enough support or computers to check in foursomes quickly or order food- as they have to do both! Don't try to get a bucket of balls when there is three foursomes to check in! Major wait as their system / process is very slow. City of Brea did a poor job designing the new club house by trying to combine the golf shop (if you can call it that) with the restaurant. Unfortunately the people that made the bad decisions don't have to work there and the employees are left to deal with it. read more

The course was extremely backed up today because of the tee times too close together. i was waiting on a tee box for 15 minutes today. And not to mention the unacceptable service. Decided to get the Groupon offer and give this place a try. It was 2 days after the big storm January. The offer included a bucket of balls before our tee time. We got to the course 45 minutes before our 930 tee time only to find out that we could not use the driving range because they were collecting balls that were stuck in the mud! They offered to give me a coupon that I could use before the end of the month. I told her I didn't live in the area and she kept trying to push it. The Groupon also included $10 at the Grill. Because it was so early, they hadn't started serving. We were at the putting green waiting for our tee time and noticed that no one was teeing off so we asked to go ahead and were given the green light to go. I live in Long Beach and this place reminded me of Heartwell Park except with much higher prices. Very flat, muddy (due to the rains) and not much to look at or write home about. I was expecting more of a challenge, especially with the par 4 holes. Beginners course for sure. The icing on the cake was going to the Grill afterwards and getting a half-cooked chicken sandwich. They replaced it with no apology at all or an offer for a free soda or something. Waited almost 20 minutes for the replacement sandwich, which was more like chicken jerky. The Billy Casper course is short and not worth the $35.00 to play. Very slow play by some make it time consuming and boring. Course is in fair shape. Construction going on during play and is disturbing. People at course are AOK. Use to have a $22. price on Tuesdays, but no longer available. For the same price or cheaper, you can play Fullerton. read more

Played in a golf match there today, let me say that I was not impressed. The greens are new yes but are half hard and half soft and still uneven patches. The sand traps are like hitting out of sand at the beach, except the beach is raked better. The tee boxes, if you could call them that, have hardly any grass and are hard as a rock. I had to be in Orange County in the afternoon. I try to avoid driving there during rush hour traffic because the 57 can be a mess heading back to the IE. I decided to look for a place to get in a quick round after my appointment and found this place. I wish I could give the place 4 1/2 stars; but that option isn't available on Yelp. I played the course right after punching the greens (certainly not the course's fault), I bet this course can be pretty tough when the greens are rolling well. It's definitely new (or newly renovated) ... trailers for the restrooms and pro shop. Plus it's an executive course ... par 59 with a slope rating of 82. What I love about it is (1) if you're stuck on the 57's traffic heading to the IE and happen to have your clubs with you, this is a great place to get in some practice and let the traffic die down (2) the range allows you to hit off grass most of the time ... and the price for range balls isn't bad at all (3) the ability to practice par 3's and short approaches on par 4's (4) a very friendly staff (5) Their player development program ... $29 a month gives you 2 large buckets of range balls per day and $6 green fee after 1 PM (another $4 if you gotta have a cart) and (6) the fact that this 60 y.o. 14.3 index guy can drive the green on #18 and shoot a 62 (best for me so far). Where it could stand some improvement are (1) extremely hard tee boxes ... bring a hammer if you're planning on teeing one up. (2) inconsistent bunkers ... some are soft and sandy ... others are like hardpan ... but I'm finding this all over ... even on courses that charge 2 to 3 times as much for green fees. (3) Buying snacks/beverages here might take you a while if there's a line. Only one cash register and everything runs through the pro shop ... no snack bar. In conclusion, while Birch Hills isn't a difficult track, I do like how the greens are laid out. A ton more positives than negatives here. Definitely worth the price of admission (if you happen to hate the 57 heading to the IE in the afternoon). read more

This review is for the Treehouse Bar and Grill, as neither my husband or myself are golfers. We received a coupon for BOGO dinners for participating in the Brea 8k so thought we'd check out the good course restaurant. It was a Wednesday evening- about 7. We called ahead to make sure we were OK to eat in gym clothes and not in golf attire- and they welcomed us graciously! There are beautiful fire pits and a seating area outside of the dining/bar area that look over the driving range. Perfect for having a beer and appetizer any night of the week. Great chill ambiance. We opted to sit inside and watch the basketball game that was on. We both ordered a burger- and beer. The burger was great and inexpensive! I was really impressed. My husband got fries and I got a very fresh and generous side portion of fruit. The server was So knowledgeable and helpful- she let us know about alllll of the events they offer: taco Tuesday, open mic night, quick lunches, and happy hour! My two boys, age 8 and 10, have been taking lessons from Coach Jeanne for over a year. They love her positive, encouraging attitude and the joy she bring to the game of golf. They have both improved dramatically and one of the highlights of their week is golf lessons. On a practical level, she always responds to my texts quickly and works with our schedule.
