This shop is always asking for reviews so here goes. Had a transmission replaced about a year ago. Within a year of getting the transmission replaced it felt like it was slipping so we took it back in. They said it was a cracked engine block. After 2-3 weeks of waiting for parts and waiting for it to get fixed they ended up replacing a condenser (just found this out on the phone). Went to another shop for an oil change and was told the transmission lines were leaking. When I tried to have a conversation with the office manager at Birchwood, I was told it was normal to have moisture on the lines after the condenser is replaced. I wanted to if it was normal to still have "moisture" after a week. She didn't know. She said the mechanic said it was a mess under there and I asked if the mechanic cleaned all of the old debris from before off. She said she didn't know, I should have asked for the mechanic. I told her last time I tried to talk to the mechanic; he told me he doesn't talk to customers, so I asked for her. She was so polite that she hung up on me. Fun Times. Guess I will be paying another shop to correct whatever issues this shop may have missed in their failure to complete the job. read more

Brought my truck here for a transmission job and although the workmanship was excellent, Chris and Tom provided extremely poor customer service. The repairs were covered by my insurance and a check was mailed to Birchwood. Upon receipt of the check being sent, they refused to release my vehicle back to me. I have two children under two and needed my transportation so I went into the shop to pay the bill in full out of pocket and they still refused. They would only accept payment in CASH. Now, I do understand withholding a vehicle until there is cash in hand (although I provided a receipt with check number and issue confirmation) but to ONLY accept payment in cash was beyond ridiculous and disrespectful. They say credit cards are accepted yet I was unable to pay for services rendered because they would have been too inconvenienced to refund me the difference once the check arrived. I will never recommend this shop regardless of the high quality job the mechanics did on my truck. read more

On Monday, morning, the serpentine belt on my 2000 ford Econoline van "lost a strand" It grabbed one of the transmission fluid lines to my transmission cooler and left me stranded just a couple of blocks from this repair shop with no transmission and no fluid.. Her I am, 250 miles from home with a possibly ruined vehicle, a potential "lamb for the slaughter". I walked to the shop, they were willing to tow my vehicle with a tow strap to their shop and take a look at it. I got a call later that day, saying they had fixed the broken line, replaced the serpentine belt. refilled the transmission and test drove it for 5 miles They said I was a lucky guy and the tranny was not damaged. Total bill Under $250. the people in the shop were kind, prompt, and more than fair. Great shop, with honest service. read more

Just wanted an oil change and inspection to be sure my car was prepared for winter. Left my car at 1 PM, at 2:30 I got a call saying I didn't need an oil change (money saved--hooray!) and that my car needed new wiper blades. After confirming with them to replace the blades, I went back over to the shop to get my car. Turned out the blades needed for my car weren't in stock. They ordered them. The blades arrived and were on my car with 20 minutes. While waiting, I could listen and watch the receptionist interact with several people, both in person and on the phone. She was kind, friendly and very helpful to everyone. The garage staff were also very kind and helpful, and clearly know what they are doing. If you are a woman, or if you don't know anything about cars ...RUN !!! they are out for your money, not to help with ur car. They told me that all oil changes come with a diagnostic, and they definitely didn't give me one. My husband had to call and ask what happened. They told us to come back, but I run two businesses and live 30 minutes away. Completely inconvenient. I would have at least given me a discount on the next service but clearly they didn't care to keep me as a client read more

I originally booked with Birchwood Auto because of the friendly phone service and the transparent prices. I told them my car would sometimes grind/rattle when starting and that there was a high pitched squeal. I told them it's most likely the starter and the belt, so I was okay for them to have my car all day but I worked the next day so I'd need it by the end of the day. I dropped it off early at 0930am and was asked again if I'd be okay if they could keep the car overnight if they couldn't fix the issue(s) in one day. I said I work the next day and would rather have it back. But if the problem was bigger than I was assuming then to call me and we could make arrangements. She agreed and said since that's the case, my car would be worked on today. Well, I called at 3:30pm because I hadn't heard any updates. She told me they weren't able to recreate any of the noises I had reported and were letting it "cool off" to see if they could recreate a cold start... well, to me that just sounds like they're having a busier day than they expected. She asked by what time do I need to know what they need to do on my car. I asked her to call me back by 4:30pm, that way I would know right before they close by 5pm if I could pick up my car. I called at 4:55pm three times and was worried I wasn't gonna get an answer before the lady picked up. I'll admit she sounded friendly and apologized but they got NO work or diagnostics done on my car. She said all they were able to do was recreate the grinding noise and that's it. She never told me what was the cause but she did confess that the reason why they didn't extensively look at my car more was because they had several big projects all day that occupied the lifts. Then they asked if I'd like to have my car looked at again tomorrow... So I'm interpreting that as they over booked themselves and were just assuming I'd be fine to have my car there for another day. When I told her no, I need my car, she offered to stay over 15minutes, since they technically closed at 5pm, so I can rush over to snag it before she left... uh, what? Was no one going to call me before they closed to let me know they were gonna keep my car? I was asked so many times if I was okay with it and each time I said I'd prefer to have it back because I worked the next day. Only if the car's issues were extensive would I consider letting it stay the night and figuring out a ride to work the next morning. In the end, my day was wasted and I still don't have a solid answer/solution to the noises my car makes when I start it. I have no idea if their mechanics even do a decent job since the only thing my car experienced was being turned on a few times... Great. read more

Had my water pump, serpentine belt, thermostat, gaskets and fluids replaced 1.5 months ago. With parts and labor the total bill was $384. I thought that was a fantastic deal! I was telling everyone where to take their cars for repair. Well, my vehicle overheated two days ago. As I was looking under the hood there was small amounts of fluid coming from the side of the thermostat. I took it back to the shop this morning and explained what had happened. I was called and told it was ready while also being informed about an out headlight that wasn't out when I took it in. I told him to replace it because I didn't think he was going to charge me $16 + labor for a lightbulb?! The total bill this time was $50. I was being charged for the aforementioned headlight with its respective labor, a new radiator cap (that was not discussed or mentioned), more coolant, and then labor. The water pump gasket they installed earlier "had failed." The thermostat was not looked at or properly reset, so I guess I will be doing that myself. I only ended up paying $30 in the end for only the headlight and radiator cap. No labor or fluids. As I drove away I noticed that my check engine light is now permanently on and that was never an issue before, so that is unfortunate. I left with more problems than before and ultimately will end up doing some repairs myself. Thanks guys. Your policies kinda suck. The only reason for 2 stars instead of 1 is because he negotiated the bill. read more

Had to stop in to get my vehicle worked on. Nobody was able to fit me in and have my vehicle worked on on the spot. They did a great job diagnosing the problem and fixing it a very short time frame, had parts rushed over to the shop to get me out of there in a timely fashion. They did not overcharge and were very reasonable for the job they performed for me. I was referred to Birchwood Auto Repair by a shop who couldn't see me on the spot. I'm glad they knew about these guys, because I wouldn't have found them. read more

Had my truck inspected to make sure that everything was in Tip-Top shape for a move to Texas from Washington. Halfway to Texas had a low tire so call the mobile mechanic to take a look at it. While he was looking at it he found a slow leak in the brake line that has obviously been leaking for a very very long time you can see different levels of dried fluid. The different levels of dried fluid are in varying shades and it was his indication that it had to have been leaking for a year or more which puts it well before I had this looked at. Trying to give them the benefit of the doubt I called to find out how this could have been missed. She put me on hold several times and then claims that she could not find the paperwork and tried to dismiss it on that. I tried to jog her memory on the timeframe assuming that she would go into her computer and find it however was met with the same attitude that it just must not exist anymore or she couldn't find it. She then insisted that there's no way their company could possibly have ever missed brakes because they love them so much. She then insinuated that it must have started leaking just after I left the shop. How convenient for them. I insisted that multiple people that looked at it came to the same conclusion that it had been leaking for a very long time. Now she changed her defense 2 state that other mechanics like to talk trash about other mechanics and he must've lied. I informed her that the mobile mechanic does not do this type of work and was not vying for any kind of job and she still insisted that he was probably just talking trash about another mechanic to make himself look good. Then she told me that it was pointless anyways because now that I was in California they would not be able to offer me any additional work on the truck anyhow. Trying to give her an opportunity to somehow make this right I suggested that perhaps they could do an inspection on my other car that my wife is about to drive down in a week. That is when she got extremely indignant and said that it was completely crazy of me to ask her to look at a different vehicle because something was wrong with my current vehicle never mind the fact that there was something wrong with my vehicle because of their neglect. We use this Automotive on the suggestion have a close friend who is related to one of the mechanics at the shop. Two other times I asked for things to be fixed while they were looking at this that did not get fixed and had to bring it back down to have that work done but as they were family of friends I let it slide and gave them the time to do the work which I was happy with. What I am not happy with is the poor customer service and the obvious oversight of something that I paid to know if it needed to be fixed. If they actually looked and told me that there was something wrong I would have simply paid for them to fix it. Now I'm going to have to go to some expensive random shop in the middle of nowhere and wait around and probably pay for a hotel room all because of their mistake. I can clearly see that they have a ton of good reviews from other people, however please realize if you go to this place there's a percentage chance you could be in my category. If the work that you need done is critical because you were going on a long trip or need the vehicle to be reliable I would take a hard pass. Not because the mechanics don't do good work but because somebody at their company is capable of such an obvious oversight and because their customer service is shit. read more

Car overheated about 3 months ago, leaking coolant everywhere and I took it to Sterling Automotive (closest shop near me) and they ran a compression test and told me I had a faling head gasket. Took it to this shop because of the high reviews online, yet only to be treated like shit. You told me I only had a minor issue, such as a leaking coolant hose and loose radiator cap. I was charged a couple hundred bucks, handed the keys, and upon going out to my truck I was dumbfounded. The entire car was ransacked. Every piece of paper, clothing and gear I had was moved, the front drivers seat was folded down (so someone obviously looked around), my napkins (which were in the glovebox) were scattered all across the floor. My external battery jump start pack was gone, along with a weed grinder. I asked them wtf was up and they denied everything and said maybe someone on the street broke inside...then I saw a camera pointing right at my car in their lot and asked them to review the footage. To which they called me back and told me my car was just out of view of the camera (which is complete bs, I work at an auto body shop and no car company would risk not having camera footage of the entire lot). Car did run fine for 3 months until one day, boom! Same thing happend as before. Took it to sterling again and they dropped everything when I pulled in and ran a free compression test infront of me and I witnessed seeing coolant and unburnt fuel/oil in the radiator. I called you back and told you this, to which I was told "Well of course sterling is going to tell you the same thing as last time..." Ya that's because I actually have a leaking head gasket and all you did was put a bandaid on a broken bone. I asked the guy who did my repair for my reciept and how much I paid and exactly for what. You replied, "You dont still have the reciept?" in a very judgemental tone. So either you knew what you did in the past was subpar work or stupidly didnt enter my transaction details into your system (highly unlikely for a car shop). Absolute rip off people all they want is their money and deny everything. Never go here. read more

It's funny cause the first two reviews sound scripted and exactly alike. DO NOT TRUST THIS AUTO SHOP!! Marvin is a fraud and employs frauds. One of his employees told me Marvin is being audited by the IRS for not paying any taxes for years. I can't believe this place is still running. I'm a single mom who got into a car accident with my daughter and needed a new car fast. One of his mechanics pretended to be my friend before the fact. I asked him if he could help me find a car with no safety issues, for I had a daughter. He told me the auto shop had a car they just did a bunch a work on and there's was nothing wrong with it besides the cosmetics issues. I have the texts to prove it. Not only did it have things wrong with it but the whole car ended up falling apart. I took the car back instantly so many times and he said he had fixed things on it but nothing was ever fixed. My daughter and I almost died because of something wrong with the car they couldn't "figure out" after 5 different times telling them there was something wrong with it. They didn't want to deal with it and blew me off. I finally got the money to take it to another mechanic and they said there's so many things wrong with the car that has been like that for a long time. They showed me exactly where things had just been glued together, clamped and ridged up. I mean there was duct tape in places you couldn't see unless you were a mechanic with a lift. I would've never bought the car if I knew that. I would've waited for something that cost more that was in better condition. DO NOT TRUST THIS AUTO SHOP!! There are MANY other auto shops far better and most likely in good standing with the law. read more
