Place has been around for years. Been there many times over the decades and gotten Birds before. They USED to be clean and the birds USED to be Healthy. After many years we Recently got a bird from there. The First thing we did was set up an appt with an Avian Vet. Things quickly turned bad as we had to rush him in for an emergency Due to rapid decline and weight loss. This bird was given to us with TWO Infections. A bacterial in the crop and a Fungal in the GI tract. After An Overnight Hospital stay, Multiple meds, and hefty vet bills, and an inhome incubator, we still don't know if it will survive. They guarantee a Bird provided you do weekly weigh ins. we did that for a few weeks before all this happened. Each week it lost weight. I even asked "is this bird healthy?".(This is only after a few weeks mind you) The response "yeah, I just think he's gonna be a little guy". The next Day we had to rush to the vet as the bird was at the bottom of the cage and weak as hell. They sold us a bird with TWO infections. A bacterial in the crop and a fungal in the GI tract. After an over night stay at the avian hospital, multiple meds, in home incubator , we don't know if he will even make it ,Or have a lifetime of health issues. Thinking back I noticed feedings there where one syringe is used (depending on size) for ALL THE BIRDS. From beak to beak to beak. And no way could formula stay at the required temp going up one row of birds and down the other.(My fault for not realizing that this should not be happening) THIS is where the two infections came from. No doubt In my mind or our Vets mind. (Who incidently has other clients with Birds purchased from there with health issues) Whoever will read this , PLEASE DO NOT Buy a bird from here unless you like Emotional stress and Financial hardship. read more

The workers were rude. But beautiful birds! Did not offer us help, when they did they said "you need help? we're closed" it was about 15 mins before closing we were just curious and wanted to see the birds but instead we were rudely kicked out. read more

So I've gotten birds from here before... Never had an issue with their health, but their sociability yes. Do not get a bird from here unless they are still babies and/or still hand feeding. Most of the adults are not socialized by the staff and scared and it will be very hard and time consuming to socialize at home. This review is about the customer service. There is a boy, bigger body type, kind of short, that I asked for help today to see some lovebirds I wanted to purchase. Now before I drop a couple hundred dollars on a bird I'd like to interact with them and see how they are and try to discern how hard it'll be to tame them. He was already annoyed when I asked to see the birds and asked me impatiently if I was going to buy one of them. That already abrasive and rude attitude turned me off. Then I asked to see the other lovebirds on the opposite side and he gave me the biggest attitude and mumbled something under his breath. This is your JOB dude, if you don't like it LEAVE. Don't take it out on the customers because that is extremely unprofessional and childish and clearly this isn't the job for you because the store just lost my business. Last time I come here. I've gone to other bird stores where you can tell they care about their birds. The birds I held at the other stores in CT and Long Island were a little timid of course but they weren't so flighty and nippy and that is a result of good socialization, unlike most of the older birds here. I'm so saddened to see the birds in this environment. If I can give zero stars I would most definitely. You can tell that all of the birds are not being taken care of rightfully. I wish I took pictures of everything that was just so wrong. They had huge birds in small tight spaces. More than 2 birds per cage. The parakeets were trapped in small (like hamster sized) cages with more than 10 each in a cage. All the birds were extremely aggressive and unhappy. A boarding bird was plucking its feathers due to stress. Most of them were doing their "hungry dance" I honestly hope this place gets shut down. read more

This is the best place to get a pet bird. Back when I had my cockatiel I would take her here to get her Wings clipped and her nails filed. Michelle (an employee there) would always help me out and taught me how to take care of my cockatiel. They take really good care of the birds there and you can even leave your birds there if you're going away in a vacation. They take care of them for you. The birds are always so cute and well kept. If you're in the mood for a pet bird definitely go here and ask for Michelle she will take care of you. read more

We purchased a wonderful make baby parakeet here in April . I've owned budgies before and knew that babies are much easier to train and tame. In four months that we've had him he has become completely tamed and bonded and he talks ! Despite this , it's important to note how poorly the birds seem to be cared for . There are way too many budgies packed into cages together . The large birds are in too small cages and one actually escaped his cage while we were there . They are pacing and very anxious . It is mistreatment or at the very least borders in that . It was very sad to see the birds in these conditions. I would purchase another baby parakeet there as I feel like it's basically a rescue ! At least there would be one less crammed into the cages that will have a happy life . read more

My father used to bring me here growing up. When my first bird passed away, my father took me here to find another one. Named her peanut Living in an apartment with dogs and cats, I cankers a bird right now. So I come her every couple of months just to see them. My last couple of visit I just feel different. Some of the birds behind the glass were screaming. They were on sale too, I'm guessing because of it. My boyfriend didn't feel Comfortable this time going in either. He called me from an anonymous number, but I was unavailable. He said he would call back, but never did. Do not patronize this business. The employees told me that he runs the business remotely from Florida. Who runs a pet store remotely? I have bought over $10,000 in birds and products from this store over the years. I have been consistently surprised and disappointed by the terrible customer service at Bird Jungle since our first visit a couple months ago. One of the staff members has the worst customer service skills I've ever seen and it literally feels like she goes out of her way to give customers a hard time. Most recently, we drove 45 minutes to the store to have our birds weighed (the store's weekly requirement for their ridiculous 30-day warranty!) and en route realized it was about to close. We called on our way to let her know that we would be there at 5:55, 5 minutes before closing, and she said that they couldn't let us in (first claiming it was because they now closed at 5:30 and then, clearly forgetting she had said, that because they were about to close at 6). I get that everyone wants to close up and go home but after paying over $600 for two birds - and having this aggressive requirement on the warranty - I would have expected her to consider that taking 30 seconds from her pre-closing routine - when it wasn't even closing time yet - to weigh two birds to be no big deal. On a previous visit, after calling in advance and not being told anything about it, we learned that one of the birds we had reserved now had a hurt eye and so we had to pick another bird! Plus on another visit when my 11-year old kids tried to feed the baby birds for the FIRST time - to practice and learn obviously - she was super impatient, critical and rude! I would definitely not recommend shopping from this store. The birds are fine but it isn't worth having to deal with such a tough staff - who managed to turn what should have been such a fun and exciting experience for our family into something we dreaded dealing with. Not to mention they clearly don't have the best interest of the birds in mind. Terrible terrible. Some friends have had a great experience at Parrots and Company in Stamford - i really wish we went there and recommend everyone else do the same. read more

Wow, this place is nuts! There's talking birds, birds trying to grab at you as you walk by, and huge birds in all colors flapping their wings outside their cages, I took one of my kids here to peruse the little fellas and she was speechless, total shock and awe. We didn't wind up getting one, but would definitely put them on the top of the list if we do get one. Safe to say, this is probably THE go to stop for your bird needs in the area. read more

Mites! I boarded my bird (was going out of town) and my baby came back home with mites! The cage was infested and I had to take to the avian vet for treatment and throw out the cage. The store is filthy. These mites are microscopic and crawl everywhere so I would really think twice before entering this shop. I will never go there again. read more

this is the place that sells the bird food and other stuff that makes my friend's annoying parrot very happy and yes getting bitten by a crazy parrot is not enjoyable. besides food , toys , cages, acessories , etc , they also sell birds and do nail clippings and other pampering services .this place has been here on central ave in scarsdale a long time and every time i have dropped in to pick up what my buddy needs for mr nixon(yep that's the birds name) the staff have been very helpful and they carry basically everything you need for the birds . parrots are smart and mr nixon is very nice to me and he should be as i filled his cage with plenty of yum yum. read more

This place is my 2nd home. I got my first baby here when I was 5 yrs old, a cuddle and lovable dusky conure who was our sweet little angel for 22 years. I recently got a green cheek conure here and would never buy from anywhere else. They truly care about their birds and know everything about each one of them. 6 weeks ago I brought home my beautiful baby cockatiel and I am so in love with her. When I brought her home I saw that her feathers were trimmed down way too much. She tries to fly and can only go backwards. Too many feathers were cut and they were cut too short. It will take months, possibly a year for her to have her wings grow back properly and I feel so bad for her. For anyone picking up a bird from bird jungle, please speak with the employees about your preference about having your birds wings clipped. If you do want them clipped ask ahead about how many feathers they plan to trim. Your bird is going to be apart of your family for a long time and you asking is not rude. read more

We were appalled by the conditions at this shop. We are experienced bird owners looking for another one. We could not believe the number of sickly birds on display, many will pulled feathers, some pacing back and forth, and some in dire need of attention. Some of the cages appeared filthy, and we saw some large birds fighting, with clearly too many birds in the space allowed. We were especially shocked at the fear we sensed the boarder birds were in. One appeared to be breathing quite heavily, likely due to the cacophony of bird screeching, again due to the excessive number of birds in the store, their small spaces, and the fighting we witnessed. This shop should be visited by whatever agency monitors animal welfare in Scarsdale or Westchester. To top it off, the sign at the door stated that masks were required of all visitors, which is good because birds catch diseases quite easily. Some customers had masks on, some not, but almost none of the store staff wore then. Again, a simply depressing day in a depressing store, seeing birds in distress. read more

Went here for the first time and loved it! I've never seen so many birds in one place, and ALL friendly. There was even this huge blue macaw with the biggest beak I've ever seen that was a huuuuge cuddle bug. So sweet. It is also LOUD in there because of all the parrots so be prepared. I love that they let people interact with and hold the birds. It's such a good way for them to get accustomed to people. They have MANY babies, and handfed. The only suggestion I would make to them is to make people use hand sanitizer before touching the birds, just so the birds don't get sick. I wish I lived close, I would go often... The prices are a little more than I've seen from..say private breeders but it makes sense because they do have rent to pay to keep the store, and food to buy for the birds, as well as hire staff to feed them, etc. I do wish the staff were more talkative, and informative because when I asked questions they didn't say much. This place is one of the best and cleanest bird shops around! We have been to a few bird shops and not impressed but this bird shop has our attention. We have been buying our babies for the past 2 years and they are the best babies in the world. They are hand tamed and weaned when we purchase them. I would not trust anyone else when purchasing a bird. We have a conure family, dusky headed conure, blue crown conure, and a yellow sided green cheek in the family. We can not wait to have home our newest addition a finsch conure. We love our babies. I highly recommend Bird Jungle for any bird purchases. They are very friendly and knowledge staff members. In the interest of bird owners anywhere, I must inform anyone considering Bird Jungle to take their business elsewhere, especially if they are considering boarding their birds while on leave/vacation, and purchasing a bird from a more reputable source. My family's healthy African Grey of 9 years "was stolen" from Bird Jungle the previous year when we were abroad. Bird Jungle offers room/boarding and care for the birds at a fee, which was our only option. The owner did not immediately notify us as the owners, nor did not notify or place signage for what he considered a "theft" of the bird. Despite having security cameras around the store and entrances, none of this expensive equipment works, and this was confirmed when the police investigated. At any point, people can walk out with birds that are not in locked cages, and from discussions with former patrons, this is not uncommon. After a police investigation and rather unresponsive communication with the owner, we realized that despite entrusting the bird in the care here, it was gone. The owner, Ira, had the callous response to offer "another bird", and when we rejected this offer, he said he would not offer anything else. Much to our shock, he referred repeatedly to the bird and other birds as "depreciating assets" and that he could not offer us the value of the bird that he was selling these birds for. My family and I would never find any value of money able to replace the loss of a loved one, and this is a sentiment that is shared among many pet owners. When asked to "put the shoe on the other foot" and if the owner would feel that a fraction of the value or another bird would make up for the loss of a bird in a professional's care, he claimed that he would be OK, and that the bird "has lost value as it ages". It was among one of the most unsympathetic, careless, and soulless conversations I've ever had. At no point did Ira accept accountability or remorse or a shred of care for the loss of our pet, which we had supported his store for years buying food and other products from. This appalling matter went as far as the county court, and despite being the bare minimum that the owner could do was match the monetary value of the bird (he was offering 15% of what the same bird costs in his store), he spent even more money to hire an attorney in an attempt to prevent us from seeking our fair damages from losing our bird in his care. During these proceedings, he claimed that the birds in his care - All birds boarded at Bird Jungle, which customers are paying to board - are not his responsibility if they are lost. This not only defeats the purpose of boarding the birds, as the whole point of boarding a pet is to ensure it's health and safety until you return. A judge called this owner out on this and awarded us the fair amount. It's shameful that Ira would go out of his way to not only short-change and pass the blame onto his longtime customer, but prevent a longtime customer from seeking a fair resolution, which offered to settle out of court, but were met with absurd offers, rude remarks, and had no other option. It's not clear to us whatever happened to our pet, and it has been suspected that there's probably more to it we don't know. We left a valuable pet in the eyes of someone who sees these animals only for profit, and a healthy female grey could fetch a high price to a breeder or mill, where a lot of these birds unfortunately come from. That's not my judgment to make or assume. What I can tell you, is that Bird Jungle has no accountability whatsoever for the well-being of it's animals, and sees their value only on a profit and loss statement - basically from the words to the owner which multiple parties in my family and court saw and heard with our own eyes and ears. I see the condition that many of these birds are in, and see these animals are in positions of discomfort, and that is neglected by the owner who only cares about his bottom line. Shame on Bird Jungle. It took me great thought and time to write this, but in the memory of my lost pet, and the hope that no other owner should endure such an unnecessary loss, and be so disgustingly treated by the person responsible, it is undoubtedly necessary that I advise you: Take your business somewhere else. Bird Jungle doesn't care for the best interest of their birds, your bird, or anyone else except the owner's wallet. read more

I have been frequenting this store for 3 decades. Overall, it is perhaps the single best bird store in the area. The staff is very knowledgeable and experienced. I purchased a cockatoo in the early 90's that was very healthy and a fine specimen. Stopped in yesterday to look at cockatiels since I am considering one as a pet. This place came highly recommended from a very respectable and trustworthy vet. They do have a good selection of birds, and it was fun to see the variety available and visit with the birds. Fell in love with the Pionus parrot they had. However, I probably spent 40 minutes or so in the store, and in that entire time not one employee bothered to even acknowledge me much less ask if I needed assistance. Finally just walked out knowing I would not purchase my bird there. I fail to understand how people can afford to do business (or NOT do business as the case may be) like that.
