Disappointed. The food has really gone down hill. When in town with family we go to the Bird Nest for dinner. Few nights ago we arrive even though the recent reviews are less than stellar. We havee eaten here before and thiught it would be fine. Wrong! Chicken had no taste and wasn't edible. Veggies and food not very hot. I asked for a refill of water 3 times and waitress said she would be back. She never did bring refill. Place not very busy either. Overall service was fair. Prices are high. Disgusting ,dirty entrance...Nasty owner....now let me explain. My 2 friends and I went over and knocked on door...lady came and we asked if we could eat in dining area ..no one was in there. She let us in. Sat at only table she let us sit in... got menu..she set up the table and I started to order...It was lunch and I wanted a bowl of soup and egg roll. She did not even let the other ladies order. She told us we were not spending enough money so she would not take our order..so we had to leave. I said but you haven't even taken everyone's order yet...she didn't care...she was done with us and walked away. My one friend is 89 years old and on a walker. My boyfriend and I sat down at the restaurant. I wanted to have a quick bite to eat, and he was just there to accompany me; as he was not hungry. When the server heard that my boyfriend was not eating she told us that there would be a $4.95 charge for him to sit at the table. (They only had 2 tables of people, and one table was leaving). Mind you, he had no intention of sharing my order of a spring roll and wonton soup - LOL! The manager - or maybe she is the owner - she is always at the restaurant when I pick up my meals - overheard the conversation as we were getting up from the table. My boyfriend said that we were long time customers, and due to this we will never be back. I then tried to explain the same thing to the manger hoping she would recognize me, or at least look up my phone number to see that I have been ordering take out from Bird's Nest for over 12 years; and want to keep me as a customer. I have to tell you I've been going to this restaurant for nearly 30 years for as long as we've lived in Florida. I've never been dissatisfied everything is great. But lately every time I order, I get an incorrect order. Something is always missing or wrong. I would call and they would say it will make it up next time. Next time comes along and it doesn't happen. So just tonight, I had called to put in an order because the last time I ordered they left off a quart of soup and an entrée. I called, and they said "it's not in the computer we don't do that". So basically they called me a liar. When I mentioned that "I specifically had spoken with you" she hung up on me. It's not the money, it's a lack of respect for the customer and extremely poor customer service. Was hesitant to go after reading some of the reviews, but we went anyway. We had a pleasant dining experience --from the greeting at the door, through each course, to watch in the staff make wontons before we left. Our waiter, Jackson, made good recommendations, was extremely attentive, and very thoughtful regarding my elderly father. The portions were large so we just had leftovers for lunch. Been going there for over 15 years and its not great anymore and what upsets me the most is not the price it's that no matter how much you order to go they want to NOT GIVE you there restaurant hot mustard or duck sauce,they just want to give you packets that do not taste the same.I even told them last time you keep the free item I just want the homemade sauce. After a long break from visiting or ordering from this chinese restaurant, we decided to give it another shot. Stayed away about a year due to very disappointing quality & service. Birds Nest has been in West Delray for many years & while never a high end type restaurant it at least offered fairly decent food. 11/2 hours is how long it took to get delivery. Wonton Soup, decent at best, container only 75% full, Spare Ribs we ordered well done, barely cooked thru. The Fried Rice was as bland as I have ever tasted. I order delivery for my mom often and she loves the food. I, however have grown sick of the lady that takes the order who has to be the rudest person. This last time was horrible. I can understand restaurant being super busy on Mother's Day, but this is no excuse for outright rude and disrespectful behavior that I had to endure while grandson was listening. We have lunch there yesterday and enjoyed it very much. It seems like a mom and pop operation and the food was very good. We have struggled to find good Chinese. The dining area was clean but could use a dehumidifier. We wonder why it took some time to get our plates. It was because the cook was making them fresh. My wife had beef and broccoli and I had pork chow mien. Her's was excellent and mine was good. It was not the kind of chow mien I get in the Boston area but it was fresh, hot and tasty. I love this place...regularly pick up a wonton soup and an egg roll to go for lunch. Delivery is quick and arrives hot....they even deliver to me in Boynton! I usually order the chicken in garlic sauce with only peppers and light onions....always get the order right and never give me trouble for being picky. My boyfriend orders the roast pork with mixed veggies...he's picky too no broccoli and no mushrooms....again never a problem always arrives correct. I have been to the Birdsnest Chinese restaurant a few times. I find it to be average Chinese food, but tonight My dinner, including the white rice was cold. We mentioned it to our server, who told us the owner Judy would come over and talk to us. While we were waiting for Judy we ate the only food that was in front of us as we were hungry. Judy finally came to our table and offered to make us another meal, but it was getting late and we had already eaten the cold food. Our server was very sweet and offered to bring us a few eggrolls to take home which we declined. It was an unfortunate experience. I can understand a problem in the kitchen but I cannot understand the attitude of Judy. I also was a little concerned, because when I went use the restroom There was a huge container filled with the complementary crispy noodles. We had an order of chicken and broccoli which we give three stars because it was good and flavorful. We ordered a general tso's chicken and asked it to be made extra spicy, two times and it came with no heat whatsoever. And 3 little pieces of broccoli. The sauce was also incredibly thick. This was my first and last time I'd ever order from here. I read some reviews online and they were relatively decent ones so I went for it. I didn't have very high expectations because it's a Chinese take-out and food is cooked quickly. We ordered the pepper steak combo dinner and the sweet & sour dinner for takeout. The pepper steak was drowned in flavorless sauce, it wasn't even salty, and barely any steak pieces. Ever single bite was less than bland. The "pork fried rice" didn't even have any meat or egg in it. It was more like white rice cover in soy sauce. The sweet and sour chicken was...well plain with a crap watery sauce. I took a bite of the egg roll and immediately had to spit it out. It was hard and stale. Almost like it was made hours before and they just reheated it. When we arrived in Delray Beach for our annual winter visit, my wife insisted on ordering our first evening's dinner from here. She had fond memories of meals past with her grandparents and wanted to share the experience with my two children and me. Unfortunately, like many childhood memories, the present failed to measure up to the past. The food was below average "chop suey" style "Chinese" food that can best be described as being watered down to suit the taste-buds of the retirees living in the area. It was quite possibly the worst "Chinese" food I have ever eaten (Chinese is in quotes because I doubt that anyone with Asian ancestry would claim this food as their own). The worst part of the meal was that I spent the next twenty-four hours coping with food poisoning (no joke, I lost an entire day of my vacation from the effects of this meal). Food is just horrible. My girlfriend is a vegetarian and she ordered tofu mei fun. They gave it to her with little pieces of chicken and pork in it. I don't think they clean the pans before preparing the next dish. It wasn't like they gave her chicken mei fun by mistake. It was little traces of meat that she could have consumed.
