I've Been here before and they are super cheap when it comes to applying product. Which is funny because don't you wanna get enough product in your clients hair to advertise it so it can be bought? I don't know it seems like maybe the owner needs to take a marketing management classes on how hair business runs. Unbelievable never have been somewhere so cheap at this point just run the hair salon in ur basement if you can't afford putting enough product in ur clients hair for best results. I was NOT satisfied and didn't get what I asked for I think it's because of the LACK of product applied. I mean I can tell even by reading the review that the owner is a cheapskate and has poor communication skills instead of focusing on customer satisfaction. Maybe then you'd learn that underwhelming service and poor communication don't exactly scream "luxury salon." Reading the owner's responses to reviews alone tells you all you need to know: passive-aggressive, unprofessional, and clearly allergic to accountability. I was only in Kansas City for a weekend and needed my hair styled for a special event. I was having a hair emergency after getting a terrible hair style at a different salon and called Ashley (a co-owner at Birdcage) almost in tears. Although Birdcage Salon was already closing, Ashley stayed late and gave me exactly the hair style I wanted. Even better, the hair style I wanted had never looked this good before. I am incredibly picky about my hair styles, dictating everything down to the barrel size of the curling iron, but Ashley was so knowledgeable, I felt comfortable sitting back and letting her give me an amazing hair style. The products they use at Birdcage are first rate. I've never had such bouncy soft waves. The salon is very stylish, and obviously the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Ashley was incredibly talented and I'm considering flying back to Kansas just to get my hair done again at Birdcage. I made 2 appointments for a consult/practice and wedding day hair. A couple weeks after my appointment was made I got a call from the manager saying they had to move the schedule around and they placed me with a different stylist. No big deal, I've been there before and everyone seems pretty good. The manager assured me I was in good hands. When it came time for the consult, the stylist cancelled because of illness but assured me it would be fine. I stressed the importance of my wedding day timeline but when I arrived for my appointment I had to wait for over and hour to be sat in a chair. At that time the stylist that was supposed to be working with me had another client under the dryer and she started my hair and eventually passed me off to the manager to finish so she could dry her other client. The manager berated me for not having a consult appointment (I did) and then made me feel self conscious by repeating over and over that she cant believe how thin my hair is and there's no way I could use the extensions I brought ( that I wear without issue nearly every day). She really tried to stack a track on the outside of my hair and not even cover it up! I was forced to let her cut my extensions in half to hide pieces she had messed up. I was very unhappy with my wedding day hair over all. I left the salon looking like a pin head dinosaur. I was trying so hard to be chill and happy about everything with my wedding but I ended crying and up taking down my hair as soon as we finally got back to the venue (2 hours late now). Bird cage salon ruined my wedding day hair. Brides beware. Regardless of anyone's skill or hair styling experience, it was overall an awful salon visit because it was so evident from the beginning : appointments getting shuffled and cancelled to having a long wait after being promised they would keep me on schedule to insulting my hair texture and discouraging the style I wanted to damaging my personal property- bird cage salon dgaf about you. read more

I was first pleasantly greeted by the owner Nathan stopped what he was doing to come open the door while I struggled with my infant car seat. Honestly thee best hair cut and style I have ever ever had. Today is my first time being there. I have given up on salons. Tired of jacked up cuts ....I have super long thick Asian hair (which is strange because I'm I look 100% Caucasian but im half Filipino and unfortunately my hair is really not that easy to apparently style. Madison created the perfect color and cut especially for me. I had damaged my hair by using cheap products from DYI stores. She saved my hair by blending low/highlights with the gray roots and bleach blonde dull hair. Damage to my hair is gone and I look 10 years younger! The BirdCage Salon is the only place to go. Absolutely the worst salon I've been to. I made an appointment for highlights, which I've had for thirty years. When the stylist finished I couldn't see the highlights, they were so tiny. I told her they were barely visible. She was so rude and said she wouldn't do anything to correct the issue. I was shocked to say the least. When I went to pay I asked to see the owner, Ashley's husband. I told him the situation and he said they would re-do my hair, at no cost, at an appointment with a different stylist the next day. I then paid the bill and left. That didn't happen, as Ashley called me at home and said they wouldn't fix their mistake, that she asked all the stylist what they thought of my highlights. They said they looked fine. Seriously, what else could they say. Ashley is their boss. They're not going to go against her. I found a more professional and courteous salon that's done a terrific job with highlights and cut several times, with no necessary re-dos. I fully expect Ashley to re-but everything I've said. Came here after I hadn't had my haircut in literally a year. My reasoning was that I wanted to see how long it grows in a year without having a stylist take off more than I want. I made an appt and was sent a reminder by email 24 hours before my appointment. My cut and style and eyebrow wax only took an hour. I got my haircut by Ashley, the owner. She was awesome! She asked me a lot of questions about how I wear my hair and what I wanted. Prices are reasonable (my haircut was $40) and I would recommend Ashley and Emily. Great a quick trims and fabulous at advanced styles! I went in to make the leap from my dark-brown locks to an ombre highlight style and am 100% pleased with the outcome! Went for the first time a few days ago and it was ok. The salon itself is nicely decorated and everyone was very nice and accommodating. The thing that makes me not want to return was that the hair cut I received, while it was ok, was not at all what I showed the stylist. At one point, I debated about showing her the picture again just to remind her what I was actually looking for. Also, the eyebrow waxing I received wasn't even done correctly. While my brows are light anyway, I got home to see an entire strip of hair completely separate from my brows that was missed. I had to pluck them so I wouldn't look funny. All in all, I left the salon already knowing that I would never go back. Everyone should feel good about their hair cut, especially after paying a lot of money for it. read more

I was immediately impressed with her welcoming nature and her superb and comprehensive knowledge of hair and immediate assessment of what would be the best look for me! It was one of the best haircuts / consultations I've ever had. I have finally found a professional stylist that has a passion for her art and listens to her client's needs and their wishes and makes it happen! All of the ladies who work at this place are talented. You cannot go wrong with any of the stylists. I have very straight and fine hair, which is difficult to cut without showing every layer and line. I usually leave a haircut only to go home and fix things. When I leave here I feel great. Venting OMG I feel like I got robbed $50 I should have went with my gut feeling after I saw the first neg. review on yelp. The place was nice looking the owner Nathan was very nice, and knowledgeable but talked to much about his opinions oh hair. I went to the restroom and their was watered down soap so i used the heck out of it to wash my hands and even at then it didn't click in my mind to leave but I was in a need of a hair cut so I just went with the flow. When I sat in the the chair the owner Nathan told me he wanted to cut about 6 inches of my hair. that scared me so much because I have been trying to grow my hair long to reach below my bottom for about 5 yrs. and told me half of the appointment I'm going to be standing because the chair has a backing to it that wont let him reach the bottom of hair correctly (don't barber chairs move up and down). He said he like to use the razor to thin out my layers and take away some of the heaviness away but it didn't defying the layer I already had because he said he doesn't like to section cut layer with scissors because it wouldn't look good with my type of hair I have (straight hair my hair is common RIGHT so I don't get it). He basically combed my hair and sprayed his whatever solution that didn't not smell so good and got in my eyes majority of the time he didn't get his scissors out only to the very end when I told him I wanted the bottom cut to a V shape he said he doesn't like to cut the V shape and he gave me a spew of reasons why (I didn't care cause that's the way I've been cutting my hair for 5 yrs) but he did the v shape for me and automatically took the cape off of me didn't let me see my hair I had to ask for a mirror I let him know that I wanted him to shape the V a little it more and he had to put the cape back on and even at then the V was crooked so i just gave up and said that will do I guess. (I had to have my best friend shape my hair she did not go to school for cutting) now I have to go and get my hair cut some where else in a few day to get what I actually wanted. okay at the very end when paying I already had set an appointment prior to this appointment get my hair dyed from Nathan on the 30th and I asked if it was still on the schedule he said no but he asked if I wanted to be put back on the schedule I said NO see you when I see you Now this next section is a ramble I will not be going back I had a dream that night that I went back in and asked if Nathan was working but I didn't want to see him and this cool lady that said no but can I do anything for U I told her my story and she said to me she also heard story's like mine that he wants to cut hair his own way and she had to fix a lot of his clients in my dream i was happy that it got fixed only to wake up and figure that I need to get my hair fixed still read more

I did not have a very good experience at this salon. I wanted layers a seemingly simple hairstyle... The owner who greeted me was super nice... The it went downhill from there. The hairstylist never asked me my opinion on how short I wanted my layers or what length I wanted cut off... She just kind of did what she wanted. I would have appreciated if she asked my opinion on MY haircut. The hairstylist had no personality and it was a virtually silent haircut. Also when blow drying my hair she scratched my face several times without apology and the straightener that she used I thought was going to pull out all of my hair. No apology for the hair pulled out while straightening. I had really high hopes because this was the first time i had visited this salon due to the yelp reviews... But crash and burn. I have been going to the Birdcage Salon for six years now. I first walked into those doors looking like a raccoon, from the terrible bleach that soaked into my hair from a beauty school. I remember my first color, cut and style with her like it was yesterday. Let's just say I walked out of that salon feeling like a new woman! It was the best experience I've ever had. The environment was just right. I was not judged and I received the most perfect outcome with my hair. I don't say that lightly. The cut was perfect! (Of course the color too) I have always been very impatient with my hair and I have never been able to leave it alone.
