I received a women's haircut from Emily last month after searching for a new hair salon and she did amazing. She was extremely friendly and really took her time. The only negative for the experience was upon walking in, the smell of the salon was very overwhelming (and not in a pleasant way but more of a chemical or burnt hair kind of way). I had booked an appointment here because of the awesome ratings it had and I'm new to the area. I went in and met with a Level 1 Designer (Allison). I'm a brunette and wanted to go bold with some red in my hair. I made that very clear. So afterwards I could see a bit of a change but it wasn't as bold as I had wanted. None of my friends or co-workers could tell a difference and I was shocked it cost as much as $120. My friends encouraged me to call the salon and inform them I wasn't happy with the end result so they could fix it. So it was around a week later when I called the salon and told them I wasn't as happy with my hair and was hoping to get some more red put in. The gal I spoke with said it wouldn't be a problem, they would fix it for free and the soonest she could get me in would be 2 weeks from then so I booked an appointment. I even confirmed my appointment with the salon the day before. I went into the salon for my appointment. Allison, who did my hair originally who was very sweet to me before was completely standoffish towards me and quite frankly-rude. She did not even smile. I sat down in the chair and the owner came over and basically said after 3 weeks it's expected for the color to fade out of my hair and they would not re-do my hair for free but they would give me a discounted rate. She said the girl who said I could come in and get my hair re-done at no cost is no longer employed there because of that incident.... So I paid $120 for some red that barely showed up in my hair that faded within 3 weeks? (I was NOT told it would fade within 3 weeks otherwise I would not have gone that route of getting red. I even bought shampoo and conditioner to help maintain the color and I washed my hair every 2-3 days as well). And not to mention I had to wait 3 weeks since that was the soonest they would get me in after I had initially called the week after to request to get more red in my hair. No one bothered to tell me or call me ahead of time -that I would be charged more money when they originally said they would fix it for free. When going elsewhere, if I ever was unhappy with my hair after getting it done, I never had a problem with going back and getting it fixed. So I was absolutely shocked they didn't care about making the customer happy in this case especially after they told me they would fix it and waited until I went in there for my appointment to tell me I would have to pay again to have my hair done, especially after paying as much as money as I did for 3 weeks of hair color that barely stayed in. They could tell I was upset but clearly that did not phase them. I will never go back to this salon again, nor will I recommend them to ANYONE. If they would have at least called me in advance to tell me they wouldn't be able to do my re-do my hair, rather than wait until I went in for my appt, that would have been nice. If they would have thrown a little bit more red in my hair to where I was actually happy with how my hair looked, that would have been even nicer but neither one of these things were done. I went there tonight in support of my mother and sister that were getting services done. The atmosphere was amazing to match the extremely helpful staff. The staff was knowledgeable and listened to everything my sister and mom wanted. The salon was spotless and not to mention, fashionable. This place is really amazing! I LOVE the ambiance right when you walk in the door, modern but relaxing! I've had my hair done twice by Madeline, and she really does A++ work. Not to mention her awesome personality! She's so fun to just sit and have your hair done by her! I truly feel their service is above average and cannot imagine having my hair done by anyone else now! I was very frustrated by how things were handled. My daughter went in for a vivid color and instead of telling her they don't do viivid colors there they went ahead with it but it looks like more of a highlight than a color. I called the shop saying my kid hated it and asked what could be done. At that time I was told that they don't do vivid colors. I was told the owner is out of town so I waited a few days for they to respond. I calmly explained the situation and she told me they don't do vivids. I said I understand but the stylist should have told her up front when my daughter showed her vivid color pictures and told her that was what she wanted that they didn't do vivids and we would have had her cut the hair and done the color elsewhere. The owner said they did nothing wrong, did not owe me anything. My daughter left happy according to their cameras. I told her it wasn't what I got at home. She was devastated. The owner told me now she's blonde and can get it done elsewhere (she is not blonde, it is not bleached and the process will cost me another $150-200 minimum). No one listened to my concerns. No one cared. We have gone there for almost 3 years for cuts. Not any more read more

I never enjoy looking for a new place to get a hair cut- some folks just don't know how to cut curly hair. But, thankfully, this salon was right around the corner when I moved to the area. All the staff has been friendly and complimentary. And I have never seen a salon with such an emphasis on training and learning new techniques. In fact, one time Ashley knew I'd love a technique for highlights that she learned earlier in the week so she rearranged her schedule and extended my appointment on the spot. It's clear that they all take pride in their art and enjoy what they do, learning about their craft, and working together as a team. I may not go often, but when I do, I appreciate knowing I'll leave having received the best treatment. read more

I went to The Birdcage and was disappointed with my service. I wrote a review and immediately I received a response from the owner Ashley, wanting to amend the issue. She also called the next morning offering to fit me in or stay after hours to fix my hair. I was so impressed I accepted the offer. As soon as I sat down we discussed my issues and she offered up many suggestions. She talked me through everything she was doing and made me beyond at ease. She gave me a fabulous haircut. Update: Ashley call me and asked what they could do to make my experience better. After talking with them I went back in and Nathan fixed me up! The color is perfect and the cut is soo much better! Thank you Ashley for reaching out and making this experience better! Ok so I'm not a person to write a review of a salon but after my experience I will never go back. My normal hair stylist live/works out of town and didn't have any openings till the middle of Sept. and I had to get my hair cut/colored because it was driving me nuts! So she recommend me to the birdcage so I could get fixed up before sept.. let me say everyone is supper nice but their lack of communication is awful. I had called and set up my appointment and the girl asked me some questions about what I want style wise and asked NOTHING about the color I wanted she then told me that is would be between 65-100 for a cut and color . So I went in for my appointment and told the girl that I wanted to go platinum, she wasn't sure about it so she called her boss over to get some pointers on what to, she had to bleach my HAIR 3 times and tone it 2 times to get it too as close as I was wanting! After 3.5 hrs. of trying to get my hair the color I wanted I'm still not thrilled with it (I also left with blisters on my scalp!). It was time to pay.... They charged me $180 for a cut and color and my hair is a 2" on the sides and a little longer on top! And the girl had already taken $50 off of my total! So not only was I told that it would be 65-100 I owe them almost $100 more than I was quoted. I talked to the owner and she explained to me that it was because the first time they bleach my hair it didn't take and that they had to do it 2 more times. In the end she charged me $100 for the color AND $31 for the hair cut! I left almost in tears because I had just spent $131 on my hair. Needless to say I won't be going back. read more
