I was waiting for my friend for lunch so I decided to take a look inside this store. It's so cute! I wish I had someone I could buy a gift for. The have everything here! Hummingbird feeders, bird seed feeders, squirrel picnic tables, bat boxes, bird baths, bird seed by the pound, cute gifts and fresh and dried meal worms too. I might have to come back over summer time and buy a variety of birdseeds to do a craft with the kids. I imagine covering a bird house in peanut butter then decorating it different kinds of bird seed options, maybe the squirrels would like it too. Didn't realize that it had been 8 years since I last visited. We're coming back more often these days. We recently got a bird feeder, and this time it's actually got visitors. Came in a few months ago to get some bird seed but also picked up a large metal stand/hook to hang the bird feeder from. Ended up coming back again a few weeks later to buy a 20-pound bag of birdseed. We also picked up a couple hummingbird feeder hooks, and now we have lots of backyard visitors - we leave a couple of extra windows open to see who is visiting. As a bonus some of the neighborhood cats seem to come by more often now as well. The staff is super friendly and helpful with advice to help us get started. It's fun to wander through the store to see all of the books, seeds, bird feeders, and bird-related items. Make sure to plan your visit accordingly since it's not open Sunday and closes at 4p when it's open. read more

Everything is fabulous here. If you love birds and want them to visit your home then fly to Birder's Paradise (yep I coined it) swiftly. If you need a gift for someone you care about then score a tower with enhancements. They also have the best seed in the Bay Area. It's made for them and the oil sheen is on, which you cannot get at your local store and defo not on bezos's site. Plus, they have nice birdbaths outside. If you would have told teenage me that someday I would be making special trips to a bird store to buy a special bird feed for my bird feeders (plural) I would have thought you bonkers. Well, that is exactly what I do. While I try to stop by when passing through, on more than one occasion, I have made the 45-minute drive with Birders Garden as my primary destination. Food, feeder, and accessory options are plentiful and their staff is always friendly and helpful. After coming here and getting new hummingbird nectar for my feeder I finally got my feeder to work!! I'm so excited! I also got the add on to keep the ants out too. They were super friendly and very informative about my issues and 100 questions. 3 minutes after I refilled my feeder with this new nectar I got my first visitor!! Thank you for your help and advice. I love everything about this place. The owner and the staff are wonderful and very very helpful. I will go in there with a question and they will take their time answering and usually in a way that doesn't require me to buy more stuff. I give the 2 stars for the merchandise. I have been shopping here for years, as usual supporting local businesses even during last year. Today I went to make a purchase and lo and behold. Sign saying masks are mandatory in this store. Say what???? Where have these people been. We were free from this mask wearing a couple of weeks ago!! I think some stores want to continue their power on people. They certainly can require customers to adhere to their regulations, that is their right, but of course I have rights as well. I will shop on line from now until I find a "free mask outlet". read more

It is absurd that a place such as this is closed two days of the week, with Sunday being one of those closed days. Closed half the weekend, plus Mondays, makes no sense. People partaking in birding and bird feeding must only shop for a few hours Tuesday through Saturday afternoons--so much for anyone who works! A semi-feed store needs to be accessible to its customers earlier in the mornings or at the very least, the full weekend!! My business is going elsewhere, which is a shame because I want to support local businesses. Star also deducted for inconsistent and marked-up prices. Peninsula and HMB feed are not too far away and don't mark up their prices as much, even if selection isn't as varied as this place. read more

This is a lovely store with lots of wonderful merchandise and supplies, but the owner is a piece of work. I have heard her reprimand her employees for minor perceived mistakes in front of customers (which is very unprofessional) and speak down to them. I hate that! I have shopped here several times but I find Bonnie's behavior quite distasteful and controlling to those she works with. Her employees are very sweet and friendly and I honestly am surprised they can handle working for her. I certainly could not. Bonnie is friendly to customers but what I have witnessed shows me another side. It's very unfortunate. Hopefully she will realize this and be more pleasant to her staff! read more

Such a great experience at this location. Started my hunt for bird feeder stands this week, because I have been catching these two beautiful yellow birds in my yard. Happen to come across Birder's via a referral and contacted them by phone, where I landed a very nice person named "Carolina", I think. She was extremely helpful. I described what I wanted and asked her to set everything aside. Told her I was going to be her easiest customer, cuz I was just going to purchase what she recommended :). This is a great store for all your birding needs. Locally owned and operated, the staff is ALWAYS extremely friendly and helpful. I have purchased at least 5 different bird feeders, seed, poles and outdoor decorations from them. They have many different types of seeds in bulk that you can either purchase in 5# bags they have packaged, or you can scoop your own and purchase less if you like. They have occasional specials that they will mail to you (if you're on their mailing list) where you can purchase a 20# bag at a 20% discount. The also have a special seed custom blend/mix created by the owner that I always purchase. They have an amazing selection of bird feeders and gifts. From bird baths, bird houses, humming bird feeders, squirrel resistant feeders, books, squirrel food, and garden accessories. I love this store but I also am really appreciative of the informative staff. As young as most of them are, they are good kids with a very positive and helpful attitude. You can go in there knowing nothing about birds and come out a lot more informed. AND I found out today that they will clean your bird feeders free of charge! That is one dirty job. Admittedly, I'm a little bit of a bird nerd. I like to take care of my neighborhood birdie buddies. When I am running low on supplies, I stop in here. They have everything. Bulk seeds. Bagged seeds. Suet cakes. Seed cakes. Seed wreaths. Jay-proof feeders. Squirrel-proof feeders. Hummingbird feeders. Oriole feeders. Utilitarian bird houses. Decorative bird houses. Nyger socks for birds. Socks for humans with birds on them. Cards with birds on them. Candles (for humans, not for birds -- perhaps made of beeswax, and then they could make a clever "birds and bees" connection). And a lot of things for which I did not know the purpose, but found intriguing nonetheless. OK, you've probably had enough of my Seussian rundown of their product line. But seriously, for a relatively small shop, they have a large selection of items. And, I've personally found the service friendly and knowledgable. Bottom line: You wanna be the place all the cool birds hang out... get your supplies here. And oh yeah, they carry items for squirrels. Why you'd want to encourage squirrels is beyond me, but hey, different strokes. read more

I stopped in here just passing by and I noticed all the terrific supplies for those of us who either backyard bird, feed the birds, or are birders. Everything from feed (suet to self-serve, bulk, thistle seeds and many premium seed mixes), to nesting supplies, they have it here. And there was a taller, older woman (sorry did not get her name, but she was not the owner) who was so very helpful to us when we were trying to located a Shepard's Hook to hang our feeder from. I did note that issue with the a woman that Josh G. and H B. noted in their reviews; barely on the edge of civility, she was clearly either bored or unable to make any really positive impression on me. She was the first person who met me, with little enthusiasm, and I learned later that she was the owner. I saw that attitude and what the other reviewers experienced. I like to support locally owned and operated stores because it is good for the local economy, but when going through the trouble of packing the store with such obviously great things, it makes little sense to show little or no pride in the wares. In this case, she had another person in the shop who remained on his cellphone, watching an apparently important game, who might have been an employee but did not appear to act like one in any way. Maybe he just liked to hang out there as a friend. Not sure. So one out of three people in the shop were great, and that is sad because this shop needs to be about service and pride in the wonderful store items. Nonetheless, birders are generally great, giving people and I will probably going back to check Birder's Garden out again and see how service remains. read more

Who could imagine there would be a local shop that sells everything related to birds in your garden and that this shop would be so crowded on a Saturday morning. We wanted a bird feeder for our garden so we decided to check the place out. The helpful staff was very knowledgeable about which type of feeder with which kind of seed mix was appropriate for which type of bird. Who knew there was so many factors? We left with a nice copper bird feeder with a seed blend for the birds of the area and a hummingbird feeder. read more

The store has everything you would need to start backyard birdfeeding. However the owner was a bit snippy with me when I asked her about lens cap covers for binoculars. She said she just throws hers away and insisted that Eagle Optics has gone out of business. Frankly, having a decade of ornithology experience, and knowing numerous professional ornithologists--both statements made her sound stupid. As a research biologist, you make sure your optics are protected because you may find yourself in rugged conditions. She's probably used to urban birding. Whatever. Nice store though. read more

Received a gift from a friend, which was purchased here. Apparently, it was purchased in 2018. I brought it in to exchange/return/get it out of my house since the merchandise does not fit. I dropped the item off at the register, explained to the cashier that I had gotten it as a gift, and I asked what my options were. I went to look at other items, as I do like to support small business and planned to buy several things. The owner, apparently not knowing her volume, started publicly disparaging me to the cashier -- how she would not "put up with things like this" and "how could it be that it didn't fit a year after purchase," and "people like this aren't worth it." I walked up to desk and told them that they could just keep the item and left. I will never patronize this business again. Terrible customer service. Extremely rude. read more

What a pleasure to shop here! We saw this store while passing on the Caltrain, and went over recently hoping for better luck attracting birds to our urban garden. Bonny was gracious answering questions, and advised us which foods would work for us. I must admit I was a bit skeptical but sure enough, we now have a horde of lovely finches visiting in addition to the familiar oak titmice, chickadees, and juncos. Maybe the key is that this birdfood (sunflower seeds especially) actually smells like FOOD!!!! read more

If you like birds in your backyard this is the store for you! Wonderful local business with a great selection of feeders, books, accessories and some neat items like solar powered fountains for birdbaths. Where Birder's Garden really shines is their feed selection. A wide variety of feeds for area birds in 5 and 20lb. bags as well as in bulk so you can make your own blend. They carry seeds you don't often find like safflower. The price is comparable to other bulk bags but is really a savings when you consider the quality of BG's seed. I found out the hard way that if you use inferior seed the birds scatter the light seeds all over your deck and lawn in order find the few plump seeds. The staff is nice, knowledgable and helpful. Truly patient - the woman answered a phone call from someone who was trying to identify a bird in her back yard. Oh, and the dog that someone said bites passed away and the new dog is nice. read more

They stock everything you need to attract birds to your yard - birdbaths, bird feeders, seed, identifier cards, window decals (to keep birds from hitting your windows) and even nesting material.
