The rating is for the grooming service. Along with so many other reviews, we have had terrible experiences here and will not be returning. The management here is needs improvement. I called to ensure our dog would not be groomed by a specific groomer (let's call them Y) because of a negative experience the prior time. I spoke for at least 10 minutes with the manager over the phone to ensure we booked groomer Z who has groomed our dog before and did a decent job. I turn up with our dog at the appointment time and it turns out groomer Y (who we were trying to avoid) was booked by accident by the manager!! It was not a pleasant experience at all to see the groomer with whom our dog had a bad experience with, especially after calling to specifically avoid them (both for the benefit of the groomer and dog). We did not go ahead with the appointment, which was a waste of time as well. Unfortunately this was not our first unpleasant experience with this PetSmart grooming, and as such, we won't be returning unless something substantially improves. read more

We brought our corgi in for grooming here for the first time yesterday, and ended up in the pet ER for an ulcer in his eye later that day. We noticed our dog squinting his left eye and trying to paw at it just after getting home from our appointment. The vet said it was almost certainly due to harsh detergents from soap getting in his eye and not being rinsed out thoroughly. As far as the service, our dog looks clean and smells nice. However, it doesn't look like they did a sanitary trim or nail trim, which were part of the package. 2 stars for friendly, on-time service, but the $500 vet bill means we won't risk grooming here again. read more

We've Been Coming Here Since Our Pitbull Bully Here Since He Was 6 Months Old. Never Had Any Issues. Until Today !! We Had A Grooming Appointment Set for Mach 11th @ 12pm. We Came & Our 1st Problem Was They Needed Validation Of His Shots & Rabies Vaccines. Which We Had From ASPCA. They Then Sat And Argued That They Needed An Expiration Date. Our Paperwork Had The Date His Vaccines Were Done & That He Would Need To Get Them Again 3 Years From The Date He Got Them ! We Had To Call ASPCA And Even They Said That Is Weird And They Should Be Able To Take Him ! So After A Good 15-20m After Arguing They Took Him. So We Leave , But Get A Call 30m Later Saying We Need To Pick Him Up Because He Is Lunging At Workers !! Our Groomer ( Sarah ) Said He Seemed Distressed & Aggressive. We Called For A Manager ( Dan ) & He Then Told Us He Was Lunging & Getting Aggressive With Him !! But When We Arrived Spook Came To Us ( My Husband, Daughter & I ) With No Issues ! He Was Kissing & Loving On Us Like Normal. The Manager ( Dan ) & Groomer ( Sarah ) Was Standing There And If Pur Dog Was Aggressive And Lunging Like They Said He Was He Would Show Signs Of It Right Then & There !!! So If You Have A Pitbull Of Any Breed , Do Not Take Them To This Petsmart !! THEY DISCRIMINATE AGAINST PITBULLS !! Worst Experience Ever. Ps. Our Boy Is 5 Years Old. Thought I booked a nail dremmel for my dog, Frankenstein. When I couldn't find the confirmation email I called and asked if they would take a walk in. Even though I came in at the very end of the day, the staff was very friendly and took her in for a nail trim. She's usually nervous to get her nails done but they had an extra person there to help keep her calm. The whole experience was very positive and we will be going back (with an appointment next time). Also, $19 for a dremmel is a very good price, compared to Bow Wow that charges $35 for the same service. read more

I had an unpleasant experience at the San Mateo location for a walk-in nail clip/grind. They turned me away because they were short-staffed and backed up with appointments. I called San Carlos grooming and they said I can come in right away. Ashley F. was extremely pleasant and professional. My two pugs felt very comfortable with her. She was able to cut and grind both their nails without any issues (especially my younger pug who is very squirmy). I highly recommend her for any nail services. read more

I do not recommend all of the people at their grooming service. We've had some negative experiences with our dogs. Recently we went in and they did a horrible job on my dogs. Just look at what they did to her stomach! They straight up shaved it in a horrible way. Just took the razor and carved her up, luckily there didn't seem to be any blood. We also paid extra for the deshedding, and it was clear they didn't do that. Manager got back to me, but then had an employee handle it with the options of a refund or coming in to fix it. Miso had his first grooming appt with Weyla. My pup is a rescue mutt so I wasn't sure what type of instructions I should give for his first hair cut. Weyla has an artist eye and gave me her suggestions and they were exactly what I had in mind. Miso can get nippy when nervous. She told me she just took a break and calmly explained to him she was trying to help. That's the type of patience I want in my groomer. I left my dog at the Redwood City Pet Smart Pet Hotel for 21 days. When I returned and got her back she was emaciated and concerning skinny. She's a miniature Maltipoo sitting at 4lbs normally. When she was given back to me she was not only dirty, with matted fur but weighed 1.5lbs less. For her size this is concerning and completely unacceptable. You would expect that they kept track of her eating and weight and would reach out if something was wrong but they did nothing. Not only was she emaciated she came back with different temperament and was vomiting and had diarrhea. She seemed dazed, quiet and was not like her normal self. Paying $1200 for my dog to come back skin and bones is completely unacceptable. Don't leave your animals here if you care about their wellbeing and safety. A wellness check needs to be conducted immediately. read more

I wish I had read the reviews prior to coming here -- I deeply regret taking my dog for a haircut with Israel at the salon. I knew my dog was starting to get tangled because he had to miss a trim as a result of a difficult recovery after mass removal surgery. I knew going in that he would likely need to be shaved since a lot of groomers don't want to bother with spending additional time brushing out. Unfortunately, my cocker spaniel was completely shaved excessively short that he ended up looking like a beagle afterward. The ears should've been kept long -- they weren't even tangled at all as I comb them often. There is no reason a cocker spaniel should ever look like that even if the rest of the body is short. It wasn't even well done, and my dog was left bald with grinch toes, thick old man eyebrows, and a choppy uneven face. I took him home and finished the groom myself to make it more even and not like he just had the worst haircut of his life. He also left with cuts on his ears and a massive gash on his chest got infected and required veterinary attention. I typically don't like to make a fuss over things like this, but I just wanted to share my experience if it meant I can save someone else from going through this as well. read more

If you can make an appointment here for your kitty ahead of time and your cat is not feeling well, do it! This place has very good vets / techs that are really sweet, caring, and experienced. One day my cat was walking around and I never noticed why his nose was super red (flesh missing on the bottom of his nose). Once I did, I thought that my other kitten scratched his nose off. However that was not the case, I made an appointment to get his nose checked (my cat mom instincts) instead of trying to heal it on my own. I'm glad I listened to my gut and made an appointment here, I can't remember the gentleman's name but he is an experienced vet of 28 years and an older man. He looked at my kitty's nose and said that it is a "eosinophilic ulcers or indolent ulcer", I had no clue what that is and never heard of it. He advices me to give my cat a steroid / antibiotic or it's up to me to let it heal on his own. I made the tough decision to get the antibiotic out of fear my cats nose getting worse or infected. It was the best choice I made for my kitty, immediately 2-3 days later my cats nose heeled and he's back to being a healthy happy boy! Thank you to the vet of 28 years experienced who helped me. Hopefully I can come again if I need assistance or live closer to come here as well! read more

Also, we dropped him off 7 hours before his grooming appointment to play at day care and the grooming team picked him up and dropped him back off at day care. We had the absolute worst experience at the Daly City location so we were cautiously optimistic bringing our girl Riley to Petsmart in San Carlos for daycamp. The staff went ABOVE and BEYOND for Riley. They gave us a detailed play by play of her time there at daycamp. They showed us pictures and even put a birthday bandana on her and a cologne spray. They also gave us a very special pawgress report! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and most of all, loving and kind to your pet. Petsmart doesn't disappoint: its experience is consistently good. First of all, the associate always greets you when you're entering the store. This is a nice touch! Secondly, their items are clearly labeled and can be found at the same place! Only PetSmart carries prescription food my dog needs. I swing by and get what I need. Additionally, they always have nice promotions for large items like dog beds or or other big stuff. Stylish and typically can be found in a few colors. Finally, since I got the baby, it is fun to swing by and take a look at the fishes and birds! They had a Santa photo booth over at the Christmas 2022! This female associate at the fish department told me she could not sell me any goldfish because I was going to use it as a gift. Then she went on to tell me I need to have proper water for the gold fish. Because I didn't properly explain what or why I am purchasing the goldfish for she said she can not sell me the goldfish. She even asked the manager or supervisor and said he agrees to not sell it to me. I have never experience or heard stories where you can't buy goldfish unless you can gave them explanation. Their tanks had dead goldfish in it, I'm not sure what was the reasoning. Either way just letting people know about my experience and why it's better to go elsewhere other then petsmart at that san Carlos location poor management and lack of training and customer service. This review for the grooming service and all store services in general. My puppy marshmallow and I are always greeted with smiles by the staff when step in the store. The groomer Taina is always friendly and caring. She and my puppy bonded right away. Marshmallow also got great care from Banfield so far. Her wellness plan is indeed the best investment and all her medical info is at my finger tip. The plan comes with genetic testing and spay procedure. We haven't used hotel yet but Mariah on the call is so welcoming and patient with us. read more

I have been buying all my pet food and pet supplies at this location for probably 10 years. Less than 2 weeks ago, I bought a bag of authority "all stages" cat food, and when I gave this food to my cat, she threw up three days in a row, I stopped giving the food to her and gave her the regular gut health by authority and she is fine. I went to return the bag of food that I bought 10 days earlier and they refused to take it back. I also, had in my cart - food, treats, toys, etc. to buy. I am furious and ended up walking out of the store. Left the bag of bad cat food and will not be buying anything from this location and company again. Terrible, terrible customer service practices. For years I was loyal to the Pet Hotel at Petsmart. Never again will I leave any pet with them. They used to take good care of my cat. This last visit (3 days only) when I picked her up she smelled of poop. She reeked so bad, it was as if they had not cleaned her litter box the entire time. She was dehydrated and felt like she had lost weight. She also did not have an appetite for 4-5 days after we picked her up. I was so worried I took her to the vet. It's how we found out she had lost almost two lbs. For a cat to lose that much weight in three days is extreme. If you love your pet DO NOT leave them here. This review is for the Mountain View location, specifically the "manager" who is extremely bad at her job. Everyone else has been professional, never a problem with the workers, the groomers, or with boarding. We have four animals and shop there regularly for food and pet supplies. One of our dogs eats a special food prescribed by the vet which is actually just Hill's Science which is a brand sold there. There is nothing special about it other than being a satiety food so that our dog can lose weight. There is no medicine, no magic ingredient, no explosive or volatile component, no way to go "Breaking Bad" with it, and certainly nothing to put the safety of anyone in the immediate area of it in danger. However, the "manager" (who responded as though she were still in middle school) refused to sell it to us because we forgot the "prescription" card. It's dog food. What nefarious plot did this idiot think it would be used for?? We just wanted to feed our dog. There has never been a problem with this before, we are in their system and buy this dog food both with and without a prescription card all the time. But simply because she was having a bad day, on a power trip, or because acting this way just makes her feel good, she refused to sell it to us. The utter incompetence, unprofessionalism, and complete lack of customer service skills was astounding. She needs training. Absolutely ridiculous that this person is a manager. Guess we are now going to be going to another pet store for any supplies that we need. PetSmart needs to do better. read more

I've had past good experiences with getting my dog trims here, and they've typically allowed me to stay in the salon which helps my anxious dog. This last time I went, they disallowed me staying there claiming I might distract all the dogs (not even due to Covid), and never trimmed my dog's dewclaws which is what we had the most trouble with and I had specifically asked for, then insisted they did. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG to Petsmart in San Carlos for grooming. We had a grooming appointment at our regular groomer, but they had a water main break and had to cancel all appointments for several days to make underground repairs. My wife called Petsmart in San Carlos and they had an appointment on Friday. We took the available spot, because we were on a tight timeline. When my wife dropped off our Bernedoodle, she specifically told two employees she wanted his tail and ear hair to remain long. The employee asked, "like a Teddy bear cut?" My wife confirmed. Unfortunately, the groomer was late to work and was unable to meet with my wife. The other employee had to check in our dog and he stated he would pass on the information to the groomer. Several hours later, we received a call to pick up our dog. My wife paid and when they brought our dog out it looked like he had been groomed by a novice, unskilled groomer. His skin was pink in areas (you can see in attached photos) and he had obvious Razor burn to portions of his body. His ears had been shaved and there were abrasions (cuts) at the tips of both ears, where the groomer had broken the skin with the clippers. These areas on his ears have scabbed over since his grooming. My wife asked, "What did you do to my dog?" The manager had the groomer come out and when asked about why she shaved his ears, the groomer stated, "I thought it looked better this way." It wasn't your decision to make. It's not your dog! Also, our dog is normally very friendly and approachable. His natural nature is he wants to meet and play with everyone he meets. Since his appointment at Petsmart, our dog has acted scared and standoffish towards people. He is slowly returning to his regular self, but this should never have happened. I have heard horror stories about grooming incidents at Big Box commercial pet stores, but I never thought it would happen to us. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! My dog went here for a while and everything seemed fine, until one day we picked him up with one of his canine tooth half gone. When we picked him up they said he did great and everything was fine. After noticing the tooth was fractured we called the Pet Hotel within an hour or two. One of associates said "oh I could see how that was happening he was jumping when dogs walked by and very unhappy". The vet said he will need a crown or to take the tooth out completely, which will cost $1k to $4k.... Petsmart refused to pay the vet bill. If something was wrong with the our dog while he was there, then they should have said so. I feel as though my dog was neglected and know we have to suffer the consequences both emotionally for the dog and financially. read more

I dropped my dog off for a bath & brush.. 5 minutes later I get a call informing me that he took a dump & urinated so they can't wash him because those are "signs of stress". To my knowledge signs of stress consist of DIARRHEA (NOT 1 solid BM!), vomiting, EXCESSIVE urination & nervous licking. I'VE WORKED AS A GROOMER FOR PERT SMAT BEFORE, I KNOW THE PROTOCOLS. Unless you want an over $500 vet bill, don't go here for the groomers! We bring her in for baths and grooming and we never bathe her at home. Not only did she do a piss poor job with her haircut. But we just found out that she has a yeast and bacterial infections in her ears because of all the water that gets in her ears!!!! FOOD: I found what I was looking for the Bil Jac dog food which was on sale. DAYCARE: I saw the dog daycare area with a big dog side and a small dog side. Seems like a high amount of dogs for a small amount of space. Especially the big dog side I was amazed watching the one guy in there doesn't go absolutely nuts with so many dogs around him. I see half the floor is wet so I assume it was washed with the hose due to pee or poop. As you can see in my photo there are dogs trying to hump each other. I wouldn't bring my dog here for daycare if I had a choice because it's too many dogs in my opinion for such a small space and only one staff member. How would he break up a fight among dogs by himself? There were two elevated dog beds with dogs on them. And 4 other dogs laying on her floor. Can't be that sanitary since they're all playing in such a small space which is the same space they poop and pee and walk around in. Maybe they should put a max of how many dogs can be in there, but I assume they want as many dogs meaning as much money as they can get. OVERALL: I didn't have a bad experience here, but I also wouldn't rate it high based on the daycare practices I saw. read more
