The ambiance of the place was a bit hot and dry, the AC wasn't working and they only had a fan blowing for air circulation but I hope it's fixed. The service was good and friendly. The food was good and yummy! The experience plate had the three different types of birria tacos with consome and I think they have a good price for their tacos. And she order the birria ramen & mulita, and she said this is really good! The broth or Soup of the ramen has flavor.. and not too fatty. This would have been a 5 star review if it had not been for the confusion we have in locating this food truck. Ah yes, this is a food truck that we thought was a restaurant. It is located on Hester in a small parking lot. It was a little strange to see a food truck close up at 10 PM too. So we ordered the Birria Ramen. Oh my God it was so good. It had great flavor and tons of meat in the dish. Normally you get a little meat but this had a ton. The fixings were good too with the onion diced perfectly. Did not try the salsa's but will next time. Also a plus is that for a food truck, they answer the phone during working hours too, something I have not seen often. Went here for the first time today. I waited for like 30 min and was ok with it cause I figured the food was going to be fire... NOPE! I got the plate with the 3 different tacos and a side of consome.. and a torta of asada and one regular burria taco. first: food temperature varied. While 1-2 tacos were warm the other one was hot. Second " flavor... for being a food truck and restaurant that specializes in birria in soooo disappointed and sad to say that they are lacking serious flavor. Idk if it's cause we came at night and all the good flavourful meat was finished, but the meat was so bland. Thought dipping in the consome would help but again.... NOPE! $79.32 for 2 queso taco plates that come with 3 queso tacos and a cup of consome (I think she overcharged us since the plate comes with consome already but she charged us extra for consome), a birria plate, 2 agua frescas and a soda. That is the total with 20% tip so if you don't tip it's less. The birria is good but not the best. It wasn't super flavorful and needed salt. The cashier seems nice as we had a conversation with her but her mannerisms are off putting so I could see how she can come off as rude to some. We were a little surprised when our search led us to a food truck on the side of a car wash parking lot, but don't let its unassuming location fool you bc the quality and service are def top notch. In addition to the complimentary mini tacos that come with check-in, we got quesotacos with consomé and a cool, refreshing cup of horchata. Crispy tacos covered in warm, gooey melted cheese dipped into a hearty and savory hot beef stew - what a delicious combo with such depth of flavor! We got a medium consomé ($5) though in retrospect, a small ($2.50) would've been plenty for 6-8 tacos, unless you reallyyy love consomé and like having some leftover to sip on its own. We took the tacos to-go, and they were carefully packaged and well-presented on picnic print paper alongside a neatly packed bag of condiments. I usually try to avoid taking tacos to go bc of how messy it can get, but it was nice to see that amidst the COVID era, this place has the takeout game down pat! I'd definitely come back to try their mulitas, tacos dorados and vampiros, along with that bomb looking cucumber mint agua fresca that everyone raves about. I was lucky enough to not drive 30 miles to LA to find a great spot right in the middle of Orange County. Birria el tapatio is a small food truck that stays outside of a gas station it seems like all day to the middle of the night. After stalking their Instagram I knew exactly what I wanted, tacos and a quesadilla with that dipping consommé. We were in line for around 5 minutes and waited another 5-10 for our food. As soon as we sat down we noticed that the line backed up QUICK! I know I'm not the best person to judge because I can count on one hand how many times I've had birria but this taco was amazing! This place was alright--I had high hopes because I read that this was the best birria in Orange County, and it could be, but after having birria in San Diego and it being so good, Birria El Tapatio missed the mark for me just a little. The flavors were just okay, pretty mild in general and the consume really didn't add much to the experience for me. I was so excited to try the consume juice because I didn't have any the first time I experienced birria tacos and this time around I felt like I could have done without paying extra for it. I did enjoy the quesabirria tacos a little more because of the cheese, but I didn't feel like there was a huge difference in taste. I REALLY wanted to try the cucumber lemonade, but they ran out just before I got there, so I got the Jamaica, which was good, but standard. The line to this place was craaaazy! I came on a Saturday with nothing else to do, so waiting about an hour wasn't a big deal, but definitely don't come at lunch time if you want to just run up and get some quick tacos for lunch. It was a very long wait and they had a tent for about 6 or so people/groups, but with social distancing it wasn't servicing as many people as it could have. If you need to sit while waiting (I considered it because I'm pregnant) there aren't many options... or any for that as they just have a few tables and they were all taken by happily eating customers. All in all, with the long wait, running out of the drink I wanted and just okay food, I gave it 4 stars. Not sure I'd go back, if I did it would need to be during some off hours or something! read more
