Taquería Mexico: The Incredible Shrinking Taco I remember when this place had lines out the door. Cinco de Mayo, I'm craving tacos, I show up expecting chaos. There's 3 people ahead of me. Jackpot, right? Wrong. They move so slow that a line forms behind me anyway. 15 minutes later I finally order: 2 carne asada, 2 al pastor to go, onion + cilantro on the side, salsa included. $2.65 each, FYI. Get home, crack open the foil, and... are these tacos for ants? I'm not crazy, so I did what any rational adult does: pulled out a food scale. Three tacos, weighed the meat. All came in at _under 1 oz_. Normal tacos run 1.5 oz. These are missing a full half-ounce of dignity. I usually need 2-3 bites per taco. These? One bite. I tested it. Slid right in like a communion wafer. Flavor? Aggressively mid. Carne asada tasted like it gave up halfway through cooking. Pastor was just... there. Nothing offensive, nothing memorable. Like a beige PowerPoint slide. Sides? Salsa bar? Pickled onions, grilled jalapeños, radishes? Nah. This place is a desert. You get foil, meat confetti, and the crushing realization that $2.65 bought you disappointment. Now I know why the line died. Taquería Mexico isn't even phoning it in -- they hung up. Orange County really is the undisputed champion of mid tacos. I live 1 mile from the LA County line and I'm forced to cross it like a taco refugee. Sad, because I _want_ to support brick-and-mortar spots. But not when they're actively shrinking my dinner. Giving them 3 stars on Yelp because I was raised right. Real score: 4.8/10. We came in four hours before closing hoping to sit down and eat quickly, only to find that half of the restaurant was already closed off, leaving just two tables available for customers. Unfortunately, this seems to happen often. It's incredibly inconvenient for those who want to dine in, especially when it feels like the area is shut down early just so cleaning can be finished sooner. By the time we were ready to order, the few available tables were already taken. Customer service has consistently been lacking. Staff often comes off as rude, rushed, and rarely greets customers, making it feel like they couldn't care less. We used to go out of our way to visit this location, but lately the prices are noticeably higher while the food quality has declined. The food flavor has declined and customer service has always been terrible. My husband and I went recently and there was no one in line and no one acknowledged us until almost 10 minutes later. Then when our food was prepared the cashier was in the back doing something so my food got cold. They don't care about customer service. Their attitude is take it or leave it. If I were the owner and my employees were treating customers that way, they would no longer be employed. Also, the empty tables were dirty and again, there were not many customers in the restaurant. They used to be open twenty four hours, which was a huge perk, but even now it remains a go to choice for quick and flavorful tacos. I ordered their street tacos, which continue to be some of the best I have had in Orange County. They remind me of tacos I have eaten in Mexico. They are small in the perfect way, two or three bites and you are through the taco, which is exactly what a good street taco should be. The meat has a rich and savory flavor that stands out right away. The red sauce is bold and adds the right amount of heat without overpowering the rest of the taco. The staff here is consistently friendly and welcoming, which adds to the charm of the place. Service moves fast even when they are busy. Inside, the space has that classic street taco shop feel. It can get crowded, especially during peak times. The only thing I would like to see improved is a little more attention to cleaning the tables when the rush hits since you sometimes have to sit at a spot that was not wiped down yet. It is not a major issue but it is the only reason my rating is four stars instead of five. Overall, Taqueria Mexico is excellent and remains one of my favorite spots for authentic street style tacos. I have came here a bunch of times ever since I started dating my boyfriend. He was the one that introduce me to this place. This place is amazing for lunch and dinner. Today, I got the only meat burrito that comes with any meat of choice, beans but I didn't get it today, cilantro and onions, cheese I didn't get it today. They fill up your burrito really good. They also have sauces on the side red sauce and green sauce along with the lemons. I also tried their pineapple juice before and it was delicious. The service was fast & employees are very nice and friendly. The store has a great atmosphere, spacious, and clean. Plenty of parking. Been a weekly monthly customer since 1989 (was 2-3x a week when it was affordable for what you ordered) when they opened. Way over priced now. This is a hole in the wall taco place and as authentic as you get besides food trucks or street taco stands. They have tacos, burritos, quesadillas with your choice of meat and cilantro, onions and or cheese as a toppings. They used to have an open salsa bar which was great now you have to ask for sauce, jalapeño etc the staff seem reluctant to give them to you. Still one of the best in Orange County. Is it better than your favorite taco spot? No cuz you're loyal to your main squeeze. But if you ever have a night off, come here cuz they're open late on weekends. There's parking in the back behind the laundromat if you take that side street. Okay let's talk Mexican food. This place has been around for a very long time. I used to go here when I lived in Huntington Beach. Has some of the best tacos Street Taco style. On the way back from Irvine today we stopped just happened to be Taco Tuesday and lucked out. Had carnitas tacos Colleen had two El pastor and one asada tacos. This is some of the best street style tacos around always stop by when I can. The burritos are super good also. I'd highly recommend :-) read more

Honestly, I enjoy this place. The burritos are my go to. The salsa is amazing here, which is a make or break for me at certain spots. The prices are reasonable imo, other than the tacos. I would not pay for tacos here, and wish they had a taco Tuesday deal. Other than that, solid spot. read more

If you are looking for an inexpensive taco, this place has you covered. It was everything I was expecting it to be. Also, super quick! Line was out the door and it only took 5 min to get to the front. Tacos: they were decent, got them plain so I can really taste them, meat was cooked and seasoned well and the tortillas were just the right size. Not big, but also not extremely small. It was a two biter for me lol! Burritos: (not pictured) here is where it lost a star, the tortilla were from Sam's Club. It was the Sam's Club brand so it tasted really processed. I was super bummed since the tacos were so good! Beans and Rice: (Not Pictured) beans were not refried, they were Beans De La Olla. Not my preference, they are still kind of firm and not super mushy so that was a plus. The rice was basic, not horrible but also not super amazing. I usually get fast food at a chain after midnight, so this was a nice change-up. They are only open 24 hours on Saturdays, so check their hours via the Yelp app. Immediately off the rip, my friends were raving about how affordable this spot was compared to other Mexican places; I got their carne asada burrito for about $12. They loaded my burrito with all the toppings I wanted, carne asada, onions, cilantro, cheese, and their mild salsa (I think it was green). One of my favorite street tacos locations in the HB area. When I started coming here tacos were $0.88/taco. They are to around $2.30/taco now which is a bummer. I always get the carne asada with onions, cilantro and salsa. The red salsa can be VERY hot at times but great flavor. Tell them to go easy or get it on the side. I went with a friend of mine who never been to this place before. She ordered cheese quesadilla with a side of rice and beans and I ordered three tacos. The guy who completed our order was flat out rude. He wanted to get my order but I told him we were paying separately but he said, "Yeah, what you want?" I ended up paying for the both of us, but that wasn't the only issue. While we were eating, he and the cashier started talking bad about us. My friend is African American and I was wearing a head scarf for personal reasons. My friend who understands Spanish, went and told the female cashier not to assume that people who don't look like them can't understand the language and we just walked out. Just to be clear, we were polite and I was smiling while ordering, I asked for a cup of water and the cashier almost threw it above the counter, which could have been easily handed to me. Tacos are decent but the customer service is the worst especially if your Caucasian. Been there twice in two days thinking maybe it was just a fluke thing but nope just left for my second visit. I ordered 12 tacos, but they would only let me have two bags of carrots Said that I couldn't get more. And that was with a tip. Definitely will not be going there the women are not friendly that weren't there. The men are nicer. Really heckling me on getting some extra salsa as well. When I have guests from out of town that was looking forward to the meal with the carrots and jalapeños on the side. definitely be going to a different Taqueria in the future.
