Food was poor. Inedible. They sat us outside under a plastic tarp and people were sweltering. It was a full 20 minutes before anyone approached us with a menu. Then another 10 minute wait for water. The risotto had sugar and cinnamon in it. It was really bad. The ribletts were dry and covered in disgusting spicy mayo you get with sushi. This chef is clueless. He is untrained and lacks common sense. Our steak should have been medium, it was well. Who serves a giant mound of mashed, puréed potatoes in this day and age?! It was school lunch mashed potatoes. Lets see, both the Cappuccino and Expresso machine were broken The regular coffee was lukewarm I sent it back, and got the same almost cold coffee, and then just gave up Full disclosure - I don't like very hot coffee Bathroom lock busted - My grandson walked in to an occupied stall Good waiter - No busboy to be seen Completely bored attitude from the lady greeter/seater as if she was truly not interested with her job. There were 6 of us and we ordered many dishes to the center of the table for all of us to try I asked for separate dinner plates so we could have something to put the food onto, and we got soup bowls. I kid you not. My server told me they did not have any. The place was 40% full at best. Best guess - 80% of the food including starters and entrees were mediocre at best . A few items were downright lousy. The Applewood steak was excellent A few of the deserts were acceptable/good but no more then that. Terrible experience. Came here with people out of the country and none of us enjoyed the food. We got the tartufo( mushroom ) and the amount of salt was ridiculous. The fries had a lot of salt and the oil must've not been changed for a while. The burger ... why would you use the bread you give before the meal as a bun. The waiter came by one asked how things were we said ok but were about to say more and he just walked away. We didn't want to cause issues so we ate it paid and left. Will not return. read more

Had high expectations as this place looks amazing. Space is open and industrial. The service was horrible! We had to ask to get the waitress to pay attention to us and we were seated only a few feet away from what looked like a manager and two other hostesses. Arriving in Bison and Bourbon I was surprised to see what a large and airy venue they had. The restaurant is extremely chilled out and has a very comfortable vibe. I decided to go for my wife's birthday and was hoping B&B would help me make it special. I rated the restaurant on 4 different points: 1) Service 2) Food 3) Decór 4) Professionalism of the Staff 1) Service [1.5 out of 5] I felt the service to be generally lacking in this restaurant. The staff is good at their individual jobs but do not take initiatives regarding other matters. For example, my wife and I arrived at the restaurant and even though there were 5 staff members waiting around talking, we were not allowed to be seated until the host arrived around 3 minutes in. Example 2, We purchased the $4 unlimited Sparking water but on the second round had a regular tap water placed on our table by our waitress. Example 3, I asked the waitress for a birthday cake for my wife at the beginning of the meal (Secretly, of course) and noticed at the end that she forgot. I even called into the restaurant from the bathroom after the main dish was taken away but alas I only received the birthday cake 20 minutes after the surprise was blown and I had to confront my waitress and ask why they haven't brought it out. I also felt that adding a mandatory tip of 18% to all orders was extremely pretentious on the part of the restaurant. It seems appropriate that the service would be severely lacking when the staff has no incentives to strive for. 2) Food [3.5 out of 5] My wife and I started off with the Lamb Sliders and the Fried brisket wontons. The sliders were very rich and tasty, I definitely recommend this appetizer. The fried brisket wontons were crispy but the meat inside was dry and it was generally lacking in flavor. For the mains I had the 14 OZ Applewood Smoked Delmonico, the steak was cooked well and had good flavor. The shredded fried onion on top was stale and soggy. My wife had the Famous B&B burger, the burger was lacking in flavor and the meat was dry. The fresh cut fries which came with the burger were delicious as well as the Pickles. For desert we had the Lava Cake, as far as flavors go this was the least appetizing dish. The chocolate cake was bitter, however it was cooked perfectly. The marshmallows were served as is without toasting first and the graham crackers were hard and under-seasoned. 3) Decór [4.5 out of 5] The restaurant does excel at decor. The ambience is very relaxed and welcoming. I love how they have the bar outside but also not in-your-face. Tables are very chic and the presentation of the food is above average for a typical kosher restaurant. 4) Professionalism of the Staff [1 out of 5] I felt this area was the most lacking out of all areas. The staff for the most part was totally uneducated about even the simplest items on the menu. Whenever I would ask for a clarification regarding standard menu items the only response I would receive is "You should ask your waitress". The waitress herself would not take any fault for the birthday desert mishap and even once confronted refused to admit responsibility. I did find the manager to have a more professional manner, however you can clearly see that he is in over his head for a restaurant with the ambitions as B&B. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant to others when for the same amount of money you can have a wonderful and tasty experiences in the plethora of restaurants that Brooklyn has to offer. read more

Bison & Bourbon was highly recommended by a friend of ours, otherwise we would not have known about this wonderful place. We were seated in this very large, very comfortable outdoor dining area. It was a very cold evening but from in here you would never know it!!! We were in no hurry so we started out with a couple of drinks. I had this Spicy Margarita and my girlfriend had a Passion Fruit Mojito. SOOOOOO GOOOOOD!!! Then we had some appetizers, Chicken Cordon Bleu and Beef Tacos they were EXCELLENT!!! For entree FABIO our waiter recommended a Tomahawk Steak for two. It was Juicy and Delicious and came with 3 or 4 very nice side dishes. I barely had room for dessert! FABIO our server was very friendly and attentive and it was obvious he knew what he was doing. All in all, the FOOD the SERVICE and the surprisingly comfortable ATMOSPHERE made a big hit with us. We will be back soon "God Willing" and we will definitely ask for FABIO again. It was a very memorable experience. read more

I've been here twice with my husband and we loved it both times. Service is so fast and everyone is so nice. The ribs are a great choice as am appetizer. I recommend this place for steaks and drinks. They even gave us a mixed drink after we paid the bill, on the house. The restaurant is dark and a candle is on the table which makes it so romantic. I was challenged with finding a kosher restaurant for my niece's bridal shower and received this recommendation from a very trusted friend who is an event planner. I heard mixed reviews but given my source asked to have a tasting. Cyndi, the GM, presented a wide variety of dishes and we selected chicken with siracha waffles, salmon, frittatas, couscous and side dishes along with a Mediterranean bar and desserts. Although they did charge for the tasting, I am glad that did this since I selected dishes, which I may have passed over. The shower was this weekend and it was a great success. I can't speak highly enough about the quality and creativity of the food, the cool, industrial venue and the amazing personalized service. I strongly recommend this venue for private parties and I am sure that it would be equally great for dinner. read more

Possibly the most bland and overpriced food in Gowanus. The place is spacious and has a good vibe but not worth it.

The lovely space can't make up for the uneven service, extremely high prices and poorly executed food. Tuna tartare was fresh, well-seasoned and very good but both entrees were significant misses. Beef Wellington ($52) was served with raw pastry and plopped on a messy pile of gravy covered mashed potatoes. The manager apologized and said they would make me a new one. Nope! They brought out the same plate with the bottom of the pastry -- and the mushroom pate entirely cut off, pastry peeled away from the steak and obviously put under a broiler to crisp up the pastry. And, cold potatoes and gravy. Duck two ways was really just a slab of breast and leg confit with a sweet side of rice with currants. Really blah ... $48 worth of blah. I think the manager was genuinely embarrassed by the kitchen and took the inedible Wellington off the bill. 18% gratuity automatically added is weird for a party of 2 as well. It's really a shame that this restaurant just can't live up to the high end price. read more

Have to be brutally honest....I was extremely disappointed with this place, Went out with my friends..and here's what we experienced: Firstly, the tables were a greasy clean....cleaned but with a coat of grease. Soup was a tomato basil with no basil and no flavor, tasted like a slightly warm can of Heinz Tomato Paste only for $12. The Main dish, my portion, a $62.00 Steak (ordered medium) was overcooked with zero flavor. The Fries were stale/burnt. Amazing exterior and interior. Was so excited when we saw the restaurant. Unfortunately, the waiters were extremely uncomfortable and suggested dishes without inquiring about our taste at all. The food was very disappointing but that could be because we didn't take the bourbon part of the restaurant literally. The stuff that has bourbon in it is literally smothered in bourbon. Respect and with dignity is the way we were greeted when we arrived at the restaurant. An absolute pleasurable experience from being seated (with choices of indoors or outdoors seating) to the menu (on a tablet with very clear pictures of each dish) to constant attention by the wait staff. It was as if it's all a well-rehearsed dance. The Ambiance was Magnificent with soft music playing in the background, a very relaxing atmosphere, and with a drink from there Bar all your troubles just melt away. The food in one word, Incredible from the tasty empanada to the pulled beef pizza (no cheese it's all Kosher) to the wonderful salads to the succulent pepper crusted rib steak, and to end it all the mouthwatering desserts. It's a beautiful restaurant and fun ambience. However, the service is so awful it really overshadows the experience. The waitress was hard to get a hold of in order to place our orders. Then we kept receiving check-ins from the men in suits during inappropriate times, when it was clear my friend and I were mid conversation. This happened multiple times. My friend ordered a birthday cake for me secretly and they came out singing "happy birthday" while I was halfway through my meal with meat in my mouth. While we were still eating, we received the not-yet requested bill. We still wanted to order drinks so we asked the waitress if it would be ok to continue sitting in our seats and add to the bill. We received 3 not requested bills that night. Typically at a restaurant, you receive the bill when you ask for it, implying that you are finished there and ready to leave. We started our evening celebrating our anniversary in quick order. We put in reservations and were seated immediately. The ambiance felt upbeat, and the restaurant felt comfortable. Our food orders went in fast, and our wine and drinks were brought out quickly thereafter. Then we noticed how busy our waitress was - running between tables, and the kitchen. Then the waiting began. The waitress apologized for the wait (the restaurant seemed to be approaching two-thirds capacity), and our food finally arrived. In addition to flatbread, and drinks, we ordered one of the most expensive meals on the menu ($120 rack of lamb), and it was delivered with an extraordinarily high amount of salt. We noticed that there are no condiments on the tables; all foods are prepared to taste in the kitchen. We drained an entire pitcher of water before getting through half of the meal. No one came around to refill water, and we were not able to finish due to the sodium. When our waitress came back and asked us if we wanted to take anything to go, we said we couldn't finish eating. She apologized again and mentioned it to the cook. Her manager ended up treating us to dessert which was a kind gesture, but we left the restaurant not feeling well. I should point out that this was not the fault of our waitress; I think she was doing the best she could given the load and capacity of the restaurant. Had the food been better prepared, food delivery quicker, and the service more attentive we would not have rated the restaurant 2 stars. I deeply dislike giving low-ratings, but in this case I felt it was justified. read more

I absolutely love the outdoor space. The designer/decorator did a fabulous job. The indoor space is impressive, as well. Contrary to the reviews read here, the service was excellent, in terms of attention and care. Amina, our server, was extremely attentive. She had the chef remake my mom's salmon salad because it was just too salty. She kept coming back to check on us, had no problem adding a few chairs when we expected some more people to join is for dinner, our water bottles were kept full pretty much the entire time we were there, she listened when I explained how I like my burger, and had the chef prepare it just so. We asked for all sauces on the side, and that's exactly what we got. Onto the food...(It took a while to be prepared, even the first time around.) My kiddo loved the lamb sliders. The dill aioli that is served with the sliders tastes more of lemon than dill, and is seriously good. The sliders were still juicy even though they were cooked through. The fries were perfectly fried and well seasoned with salt and pepper. The house-made pickles are superb, briny, slightly sweet, and a bit flimsy but crisp enough. My burger, though cooked EXACTLY the way I like it, was not seasoned at all...and the beef was definitely not great quality, and not super fresh. My mom's salad was delicious, and the salmon was perfectly cooked. The skin was crispy, and the sesame coating was tasty, although you might want to request that they go a bit lighter on the salt. My sister's chicken salad was super fresh, and I tasted the beef bacon garnish, and it was super yum. We shared the caramel apple empanadas and the chocolate lava cake. The empanadas were cinnamony, piping hot, flaky and yummy. The lava cake was good (I've had better), and the ice cream served with it tasted like parve sweetened vanilla whipped cream that was frozen...could be so much better. The cherries that garnish the plate were so divine, I could have eaten a bowl of them and I'd have been more than happy. Same with the marshmallows. Very well made. All in all, I'd say that, while this restaurant is overpriced (even by Kosher steakhouse standards), we had a lovely time, and the service is really great. read more

I've been waiting with baited breath for this place to open. I finally got to go and the results were...ok. I will certainly go again but there were ups and and downs. The place is gorgeous, first of all. The most beautifully, tastefully appointed kosher restaurant i've seen. That's worth a lot. The menu has some interesting choices and almost everything we got was great. The drinks are incredible- very creative, varied and I LOVE the icons that let you know what kind of glass they're served in. It give you a sense of potency/concentration. An included tip always worries me in that there is less incentive for the waitstaff to be attentive. This wasnt a huge problem, and the waiters were very friendly. My one complaint was the waiter came back to our table after we'd placed an order. He felt very strongly that we'd ordered too many similarly-flavored dishes and in his opinion we should swap out one of them for a steak. I was hesitant, but it wasnt a higher priced dish so he wasn't playing that game and i tend to trust waiter's recommendations, especially so passionately offered and considered. So we did as he suggested. A huge mistake. The dish we'd swapped out was incredible (we had originally ordered 2 of the bourbon ribs- get them!) and the steak was grossly undercooked (rare instead of medium rare), sinewy and bland (14oz). A very bad trade. So definitely check this place out. Get the ribs, drink heavily and trust your own instincts. Ambiance - 5 star. Service - 3.5 star. Food - 4.5 star. Drinks - 5 star. read more
