To start off the waiter was taking our order and then answered a call on his cell phone... the place was packed which made it extremely loud. I have never felt so cheated and disrespected at a restaurant as I did at Cafe Renascence. We asked for schug with our meal, and instead were slapped with a $12 charge for a single hot pepper chopped up. Not only was this something we did not order, but it is insulting to charge such an absurd price for something so basic. When we came back to complain, the woman we spoke to tried to lie to our faces, claiming she wasn't the owner and had "sold the business," even though she's been sitting there for years. She also told us there was no manager available. This was nothing but blatant dishonesty to avoid taking responsibility. To make things even worse, the bill had a tip automatically added. After being overcharged, lied to, and treated with zero respect, being forced to tip was the final slap in the face. This experience was outrageous, and it's clear this establishment has no interest in treating customers fairly or honestly. The food is fresh, nicely presented and good portions. Service was excellent prompt and efficient. I had a spinach and feta omelette - it was very good but also very heavy on the salt - hence the 4 stars. My companions had a bronzino and pasta. If they didn't have enough waiters they know it's a busy day before Passover! We drôve to this place after.moving from that neighborhood. We won't be going there ever again ! Restaurants always say "yelpers" love to write reviews and not complain in person. I will do both as I did tell the waiter. I would highly recommend you not coming here as the food was sub par. Pasta was not worth it, one of the worst pastas EVER it's more of over cooked pasta with bland cream sauce. I recommend the Zatar pizza and mozzarella sticks were good/ ok but nothing special. You have to be really bad to mess up mozzarellas sticks. Fried zucchini I don't recommend. The desert is what killed this place I got the soufflé it was so good initially then I saw this whole layer of oil as I got toward the bottom I got a belly ache from eating it I showed the waiter the bottom oil layer, I just wanted an explanation as to why it's like that I don't care that I paid for it but at least say something. Tasty food but not the best. It can get very busy and at that point the service can get very bad.

This meal was pretty good. The real star was the chef halumi salad. The portion was nice and it came with mushrooms, fried halumi cheese chunks, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and teriyaki sauce. I thought the warm cheese and mushrooms would make the lettuce wilted, but it didn't. It was flavorful, filling, and delicious. I would definitely order it again. The eggplant parm was good and had a lot of flavor. My only complaint is that the sauce got very watery. I'm guessing the pasta wasn't fully drained. The inside of the restaurant is also very nice. The bread was okay, but the olive tapenade was amazing! Overall a good experience. read more

I used to rave about Sunflower Cafe, before I discovered Renaissance. This place is much calmer, service is great and quick, food is always fresh, and their dishes are amazing. My favorites include their salads (any really), as well as their pasta dishes in vodka sauce. They provide really good and complementary bread, with this incredible butter/olive sauce (which they package if you want to take some home). This is also one of the few places in the area with an extensive kids menu, where you can stop in with children for a quick meal. I feel fortunate to have something like this by my job, or for local shopping trips along Kings Highway. read more

A new Kosher Italian restaurant opened a few weeks ago, and I decided to give it a shot today. The place looks absolutely beautiful, but I chose to get an online order. You can go to their site, order what you want, throw it into the basket, and then choose your delivery time. You can pay with your debit or credit card on the site, or cash when the guy shows up. I chose the try out the Renaissance Pizza (Sesame crust pizza with mushrooms, red onion, mozzarella, and light tomato sauce.) While it was tasty...it did not blow my mind, and honestly after growing up in NY and living now in Brooklyn, pizza is an art form. So when you get anything less you go into "pizza snob" mode. It was a tad salty, but overall it was devoured, and the sesame seed crust was pretty delicious. For dessert, I had a big slice of chocolate cake. It was damn good, and probably earned this place its 3rd star. The layers of chocolate and whipped cream were so delicious. I will try Cafe Renaissance again, but next time I will pass on the pizza. It is a kosher joint, and it has no beef or chicken on the menu. But they have wraps,sushi,pastas and salads. read more

I have dined at Cafe Renaissance many times in the past, with mixed experiences. However, after tonight, I am shocked and disgusted. I came here on a date and the restaurant was half empty - meaning that literally half of all the tables there were vacant. They seated us at a table that my date and I both felt uncomfortable with - it was right near the busiest and loudest area, by the kitchen doors and sushi bar. We both wanted a quieter atmosphere, and seeing that the entire half of the restaurant was empty, we politely asked our waiter if we could be reseated. He told us no. He explained that because it was only two of us, this was the only table they had for us, because all other tables were for larger groups. Logically this didn't make sense, since the numerous tables for groups of four or six could easily be separated, like in most restaurant establishments. I asked the waiter why this was not possible, and he said the manager didn't allow it. Keep in mind, this is a slow night and literally half the tables are empty with no reservations. We spoke to a woman who seemed to be the manager, and she still did not resolve what should be a simple issue. We got so frustrated with the ridiculousness and left. We enjoyed a great dinner at Siena on Kings Highway instead - we highly recommend them! read more

Service was good so 1 star there. Ambiance wasnt good, the bathroom is right in the dining room which is disgusting because it smelled bad. Food was hit or miss. My gnocchi was good but then i realized they dont make it fresh in house, and that Ive actually purchased that brand of gnocchi before from the supermarket. I could have made it myself. My husband's pizza sauce tasted like it was from a jar definitely not made in house, and my friend's fish and chips was very bland. Will not be going back. I was invited to a sheva brachot there. It was lively and loud, they played happy birthday to other people a minimum of 10 times during our stay between 7:30 & 9:30. The food was mediocre but the service was good. The pasta was disappointing (we had baked ziti and fettucini alfredo at our table) and the sushi has WAY too much (and very dense) rice. I did enjoy a dish they had which was grilled portobella smothered in cheese with a cilantro sauce that was amazing. We came here for a long awaited date night. We came here right when it opened on a Saturday night so there was no wait for a table. We got volcano roll sushi, French onion soup, fish tacos, four seasons pizza, pitcher of sangria, and a pasta dish with Alfredo sauce and salmon. Everything we ordered was delicious. Called three days before to make a reservation for my sisters birthday, and store told us we do not need one. I called the day of to try to make a reservation again and was told that they have two private parties and are not doing reservations, only walk ins. I asked if they would have space for 7 walk-ins and they said it should not be a problem. I didn't want to stress my sister out the day of her birthday so my husband and I came 30 minutes before my family was supposed to show up, so that we can get a table (my grandmothers were coming and they will not be able to stand and wait) we got their at 7 (family was coming at 7:30). The store was packed. We asked if they had space for 7 and they said yes. They start making a table for us and at around 7:15 it's ready. As my husband and I were going to sit they gave the table to someone else who came way after us. I asked why and they said it's fine we can get the next table. Next table is ready at 7:30 ( my family just texted me they found parking, perfect! ) the store than gives away my table to another family behind me and my husband. My husband and I have been standing and waiting for 30 minutes just so we can get a table for this birthday. I asked the manager (really rude blonde women) why they gave away our table when she told me it was ours, she responded saying "when your party is here than you get a table" this would make sense if they would've said that before, but she knew we came early to grab a table and she was perfectly fine with it. She was incredibly rude and not accommodating at all. Besides all of this they were taking out folding chairs from the back because they had no space, and they still kept letting more and more people wait. Instead of staying the place was full. Moral of the story is: we were told we had a table TWICE and both were given away. Nasty place with nasty staff. Never going back here again. Ps we did not end up staying. read more

I don't keep Kosher, but if I did, I would eat here ALL THE TIME. The pizza is comparable to the big time pizza mavens like Lombardis, like that sort of style. The sesame crust is a must. The salads are fresh and delicious. The pasta dishes are very tasty as well. This is food that non-kosher people can enjoy with their kosher friends. If you go, save room for dessert. You will be glad you did. The desserts are wonderful. They have a sister restaurant on Coney Island Ave named Cafe Venezia, the food is comparable, and it is probably less busy. YMMV. read more

The food here is pretty good. The pizza is great and so are the salads. I love the Mediterranean pizza with za'tar and the margarita too. My favorite salad is the argula salad with feta cheese and zuchinnis. The service here is really not that good. The tip is always included in the bill, and often times you will see waiters just standing around. I've never had bad service here, but I rarely have good service here too.
