Recently added the opportunity to visit bistro 238. I had ordered the lamb shank, and it was absolutely delicious. Almost wanted to lick the plate when I was done. For dessert I had the bread pudding, which was equally delicious. A great place to go for a great meal. read more

This place was delicious! The food was so tasty and the staff was very friendly. You can have a fine dining experience or come dressed causal. For appetizers, we had the soup special which was coconut sweet potato and baked brie with caramelized onions. Both were very tasty! For my main, I had baked salmon with lentil curry that was so good. The salmon was baked to perfection. My boyfriend had the pork tenderloin wrapped in procuitto and stuffed which amazing stuffing! We also had the filo wrapped cheesecake. The chef even came around to every table to ask how the food was tasting. An overall wonderful dining experience! read more

This was my second time here and it didn't disappoint. I love this place! The food and service are fantastic. This time I was there with a large group, we were seated in the front area at 2 tables. Great atmosphere and enough room for us to move around to visit. Since my dad had the Sirloin last time and devoured it, I gave it a try. Wow. Cooked perfectly, tender and juicy. Many of us ordered it and each person loved it. The mashed potatoes were fantastic. When our server came by to take the plates, I saw many clean and no doggy bags. You know it's good when everyone cleans their plate! Let's talk desserts. On my last visit, I had the Lemon Mousse Cake and 1 bite of the Phyllo Cheesecake. The lemon was delightful, but I never forgot that 1 bite of cheesecake and swore I would one day get a whole piece to myself. I did. It's cheesecake, wrapped in phyllo, warmed with berry compote. My eyes rolled back in my head. You've gotta try it! read more

Crappy service- upon entree no one bothered to greet us and when they do they tell us they don't have to the seats for us (we have 7ppl ). I told her we can sit separate and the server with her crappy attitude tell us she still don't have seats and that they need to be cleaned and she has no time for it....restaurant wasn't even busy (only 2 to 3 groups of ppl eating and no one else waiting to be seated) ...we clearly see empty prep tables. She didn't say they were reserved either. I asked her how long will it take for her to clean the tables, apparently 15min and that she's busy preparing the receipts for her currently "still" eating customers....probs to their excellent customer service, clearly not their priority. read more

Tucked into an out of the way strip mall, we didn't know what to expect. Atmosphere is that of trying to put a nice restaurant in an office building. Restaurant was about a third full, so not too busy, but the service was god awfully slow. No checks, refills etc. Waited a while for the bill The food again was mixed. Really liked the starter bread. Tasted like a nice oat. Starter, flatbread with bacon. Delicious. For mains, my wife had chicken which was moist and delicious. I had the steak special, with a lobster and Brie potato pancake. It was more like a pile of mush. Steak was ho-hum, very plain and a bit under cooked. Veggies added some nice colour and tasted nice. I'd come back if we were invited with others, but I don't think I'd suggest it again. read more

Hadn't been in several years - though I can't remember why, but we felt like something different tonight and it was a pleasant surprise - further enforcing my increasingly proven theory that you should always give a place a few chances. Having switched to a vegan lifestyle last march and skeptical of the high ratings we dropped in unannounced - Saturday night - no reservation. But I'd definitely make one next time it was quite full by the time we left. There were no vegan options on the menu so I asked the very pleasant server to give the kitchen full license within vegan parameters. They came back with dried cranberries, crisp fresh thinnly sliced apples and perfectly carmelized pecans on a bed of very fresh mixed greens. Loved it. Non-veg Wanda's leafy vegetables were laced with roasted peppers and topped with goat cheese. She gave it a nine out of ten and called her pan seared chicken tasty, moist and simple. It was served on yukon mashed potatoes with crisp beans, zuchini and asparagus. My vegetables came served on a light red sauce were phyllo wrapped and abley prepared. Like everything else, they were piping hot and pleasantly crisp. I actually struggled with the fourth star only a little because of a slightly plain decor, But given that everyone else gave Mr. Bush 5 stars and because it is quite arguably the best restaraunt in Courtice, four stars it is. read more

Went here for lunch today...wow... what a hidden gem! Food and service was amazing. Had the brisket.... Was delish! Also, baguette served with a bean and garlic spread..... perfect! We were pleasantly surprised by a delightful dinner last night when taken to a little eatery in Courtice that we had never heard about. Tucked away in a strip mall on the outskirts of Oshawa, this little gem of a restaurant is worth the search. Starting with the friendly greeting at the door, our evening was on a wonderful start.The specials were tantalizing: bison, veal, venison, scallops...the aroma was undeniably devine! The soup was cauliflower cheddar...not thick and overpowering, but with just enough texture to keep it interesting. The bread served was thinly sliced and rustic. All the entrees served at our table were perfectly presented, piping hot and cooked to mouthwatering perfection. Desert consisted of a selection of LaRoca cakes, all of which were tempting, but the piece de resistance was the Bistro's own bread pudding in a flavourful custard sauce. Lovely atmosphere and creative food! The Thursday pasta nights are incredibly well-priced and always delicious! Just be sure to make a reservation. Lunches and dinners are consistently good and they always have fantastic specials. (A few times I have asked for substitutions or have asked for small changes made to my meal... For instance, I asked for my Cesar salad to be brought back because it seemed underdressed, but the waitstaff and chef are always very accommodating and they always fix any problems I may have, no questions asked! And these problems are always few and far between.) I also always see the chef grocery shopping in the early morning to buy fresh ingredients, so it is great to note that the food is fresh, the chef respects the ingredients, and time and energy are put into the food. Moreover, the waitstaff are lovely and the service is very good. My only (minor) complaint is that it is a small venue and sometimes it gets a bit chilly sitting close to the window area, especially in the winter... So make sure you bring a sweater, just in case. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the food! read more

My hubby and I like going here. Mostly at lunch but today for my husband's bday, we decided to go for an early dinner. We both ordered the Orecchiette dish with wild mushrooms, sundried tomatoes with cream sauce but we requested chicken to be added. When the dish came, both my husband and I could not find any mushrooms in our dish. When we asked about the mushrooms, our server said would we like to have the chef cook us some mushrooms. We said yes but we were thinking, 'of course we do' coz wasn't that part of the dish as it was written on the menu. We didn't ask for the mushrooms to be replaced by the chicken. The server clarified later that 'no, the chicken wasn't to replace the mushroom but that she forgot to put it in.' There was no apology for missing such a integral part of the dish AND on top of that we were each charged $4 more for the chicken. Normally, that extra charge goes without saying and we would be happy to pay but considering they botched our order, it would have been nice and considerate of them to may be waived the extra charge or at least apologize. Again, we normally have good experience here but sadly tonight it was just disappointing and sucks that it had to be on my husband's bday. read more
