Cactus Club is a nice place to go for a special occasion in terms of atmosphere and taste, but besides that, I can't really justify its worth. The vibe feels like a mid to upscale Canadian restaurant, with low, atmospheric lighting, candle-lit tables (though ours wasn't lit for whatever reason), and good music. Food tastes great! No complaints there; my entire party enjoyed their meals and drinks. Although they said the bellini was a bit too sweet. Service was very subpar. Although all the employees are kind, they are much too busy running around and helping other customers to provide each table with great service. It took forever to catch our server's attention. We were celebrating a birthday and asked our server for the complimentary birthday treat (which was some sort of crème brûlée dessert) and after we did, it took very long for it to be brought out and we went over our 2 hour time limit. We thought she might've forgotten. As well, when we asked for our parking validation, our server walked away with our tickets without letting us know they'd be brought back by another employee. I really don't think the price of the meal justifies the mediocre service, but happy hour might be better? We were able to get seated fairly quickly, and the hostess/servers were very kind! Great service always stands out more than food, and we were very happy with our overall experience here! The server came up and we asked for the drinks menu and OMG... Attitude!!! She did not appreciate having people sent to her area that was already seated at another place. Lunch was had but we wanted more cocktails and she just fluttered off to talk to someone about it. Like WTF!?! I had the fortuitous luck that I met Giovan (possible spelling mistake) in the underground parking and elevator and had a quick chat about the various CCC's I've been to... and he was very pleasant. I ran into him again after our little kerfuffle with the server that didn't seem to have enough substance to handle mini crises in her life - however did not mention anything to him about it. Oh... BTW - he's one of the managers it turns out. He was more than happy to help up out and turn the whole experience around. Totally appreciated the extra mile that he went. The other server - totally left the scene and we ended up with a new person. What a breath of fresh air after such a toxic person with attitude issues. Total first impression of a 2 saved to a 4. Went for late dinner and took advantage of their happy hours meal which starts at 9pm. Appetizers are about $3-5 dollars cheaper than regular menu while main course is about $8-10 cheaper. My steak frites costed me $28.50 instead of $38 yet portion size looks the same. The place looks crowded when we arrived, with almost every table seated on a Wednesday evening. The Angus steak was cooked correctly to medium rare though it leans slightly on the chewy side and took a bit of effort to cut. The salad was forgettable while the fries was barely salted. Catus might be my new fave spot for happy hour I got the steak frites, avocado dip, and salmon aburi. I started off with a Peach Bellini, it was so good and super strong! Came on sunday at 9pm and it was super busy, but got sitted right away, I would recommend making a reservation if you have a perferred sitting like patio, bar, lounge, hightop etc. Steak frites 8OZ comes with fries (upgraded to truffle $3.50) and salad. I would give it a 7.5/10 I did ask for medium rare but they over cooked by a little it tasted a bit dry as well, the downtown location made it way better tbh. Avocado dip was super delicious and the favourite appetizers of the night! the gauc was super smooth and tasted super good with hot sauce on the side 10/10. I didn't find anything special for the aburi salmon roll, wouldn't get again 7/10! They're located on top of a building so you will either have to take stairs or elevator (wheelchair accessible) there's a Green P near by, wouldn't recommend street parking. Clean restrooms and the restaurant was quite spacious, love how they have 2 entrances. Our server Anya was quite busy but she was attentive and checked up on us every once a while. Have always been a huge fan of Cactus Club's downtown location and was so ecstatic to see that they've finally opened their North York location as well. Perfect if you like something on the refreshing side. Tuna Stack 5/5 - My go to appetizer. You can ahi tuna mixed with avocado, microgreens, served on a wonton crisps. Well balanced flavours and great for sharing. Chili Citrus Calamari 5/5 - A great appie to share. Crispy calamari pieces with a citrus dip and szechuan peppercorns. Perfectly fried with a crunch. Avocado Kale Salad 5/5 - Oh my goodness I could lick this plate clean. It's fresh, crunchy from the chickpeas, well dressed in their garlic dressing and a great side to add to your meal or have as an entree. Baja Fish Tacos 4/5 - Can't go wrong with fish tacos. It's made with pacific cod and topped with red cabbage. Loved these 3 biters and you can add an additional taco if you're a party of 4 (they come in 3s). After what it seems like months of waiting, the Yonge and Shepherd location for Cactus Club Café has finally open. We came to check it out on weekend and was able to get seat seats in the bar area. I would definitely recommend reservations, as it was quite full. We got cocktails, the tuna stack, crabcakes, and fish tacos to share. I really liked the tuna stack as it was served with really light and delicate chips, which didn't compete with the tuna. The crab cakes was packed with crab, which was delicious. Located inside the Sheppard and Yonge building. They have validation for parking which we didn't know so we'll do that for next time. The venue itself is really big with lots of seating space. TV on some corners for viewing Our service was pretty slow and server was quite hard to find after we had our first set of appetizers ordered. The sushi here isn't good at all, but obviously you wouldn't come here seeking for their sushi. The salmon aburi was a tiny piece on top. The wagyu carpaccio was really good and the calamari. The calamari is spicy and for someone who cannot handle spicy food, this was very tolerable. The texture and seasoning were perfect and cooked just right! We got the peanut butter dessert which was really delicious but it's something you can't finish by yourself, definitely can be shared. Creme brulee was divine. This is a new Cactus Club location. At first, when I was seated, the service was immeasurably slow. It took over 15 minutes to get a glass of water. However, the service picked up and the food actually came out quite quickly. I ordered the tuna poke bowl and it was delicious. I love the fact that they validate parking. Other than the small snafu at the beginning, my experience was very pleasant and I enjoyed the service, food and atmosphere. I will be back! Ambiance This location was opened recently so everything looks new. It has a modern design. The colour palette is light wood tones, black seats, and pops of colour. There are some neon signs on one side of the restaurant near the doors that lead to the street. Washrooms were clean and all light wood walls for the stalls. Conclusion It's a nice looking space. There's ample parking in the Sheppard-Yonge Centre and restaurant will cover the parking cost, just ask the server to validate for you. We had a lunch experience on a Monday afternoon. The service was extremely slow as it took 30 minutes to get our drinks only after we asked the server if there was an issue. The appetizer also took almost 40 minutes to come to the table. The WAGYU BEEF CARPACCIO was excellent. We had it modified as my guest had an egg allergy so we had the ailoi on the side. It was outstanding. The mains were the chicken tacos and the med bowl. Both mains were extremely good. The meal took almost 1 hour and 45 mins. What an amazing restaurant! Fantastic vibe and atmosphere. I met a high school friend here for the first time after many years. Upon request management understood the need to sit in the quieter area of the establishment in order to catch up with each other!
