The food is really good. However their prices are outrageous. No reason to charge as much as they do. They also do weird little things like put their milk in a weird shape glass just so you get less. Truthfully the food is good here. We are frequent flyers at nicks because we live across the street. Nicole or her mother wait on us and we always have a great experience with them. Today, however, we experienced the one, the only, Nick. The way he talks to the servers is unacceptable. All we heard our entire visit was a constant brow beating of one veteran employee. We also witnessed him barking orders at other servers. These people are the reason for your success, act like it, Nick. I can say we will most likely never dine in again. But know this is not because of poor service or bad food, but we will not support a local business that treats their employees the way we witnessed today. My friend and I had dinner at Nick's yesterday. We arrived around 5:00pm and the restaurant was pretty much empty. We were immediately seated in a well worn, but comfortable, booth. Pros: not a chain, friendly employees, cleanliness, and comfortable atmosphere (felt like home). My friend and I both chose the open face roast beef. We were a bit leery about it due to its speedy arrival, but it tasted good. The mashed potatoes were real, which was a definite plus. Cons: iced tea is not brewed (it was that powder crap), the gravy that accompanied the roast beef was most certainly from a jar, and the lemon meringue pie was still partially frozen (and clearly not made there). I think Nick's would be much better if they would reduce the size of the menu and concentrate on making everything from scratch. read more

Such a surprise! Chose here for brunch because I was meeting someone who babysat in the Cleves area. Nick's was recommended by a friend. Like the Yelper I am, I visited their page before going - there wasn't much to see. Well don't let that stop you from checking it out! The food was DELICIOUS and plated very well. With a diverse menu, I feel like there's something for everyone. Just check out my photos! We had a 16 month child with us and the older waitress was very playful with him and accommodating, bringing out extra jellies to play with. Apart from us, there was maybe only 2 or 3 tables that were taken. While empty for us, I really hope the place fills up during the true lunch hour and at dinner! I GIVE UP! I am so disappointed in this restaurant again after five years we decided to give it one more chance. I ordered a double hamburger (their Big Boy version) and chicken strips that looked more like chicken nuggets. The hamburger was dry, old freezer burnt tasting. The chicken fingers (3) were more like soggy chicken nuggets with nasty warm coleslaw for $30, with dry burnt crinkle fries without a Coke. How do these places stay in business? I wanted a Reuben, which was on the online menu that is called a New York Reuben, the order taker didn't even know what it was. I do not recommend this place. read more

The decor is pretty nice, good interior! The food is just alright. I ordered "The gut buster breakfast" or something. It consisted of a sauasage patty (frozen), 2 eggs (pretty decent eggs), a half order of biscuits and gravy (biscuits don't seem home made but they were ok, gravy was good), and 2 strips of bacon (little bit too fatty for my taste.) I went to Nick's for dinner last night, after having visited for (wonderful) breakfast years ago. This is exactly the kind of diner every small town should have. Upon entering I was very warmly greeted by owner Nick, who showed me to a table and let me know about all the specials. I was tempted to get breakfast, which I know is delicious and available all day! I was frankly overwhelmed by their fairly large and diverse menu, but opted for ribs after consulting with the waitress. For being baked and grilled (and not smoked) they were quite good, tender but not mushy, with a nice tasting house sauce on them. They came with a side of sweet potato fries, which included a special marshmallowy dipping sauce, a very cool idea. All around me I saw people ordering and savoring cod and catfish, which was also prominent on the menu, so I'll give that a try next time. Absolutely wonderful place to dine. For breakfast there are many Omelets. I love the fluffy pancakes with warm syrup and chantilly cream. The Cod Fish Basket is my favorite go to item on the menu. The fish is battered to order. You have your choice of steak fries or crinkle cut fries. It is served with Cole slaw. I love the Cole slaw. The dinner rolls are served warm with "real" butter. No cutting corners here. I also recommend the "Kentucky Hot Brown". You will find none better in Louisville on Derby Day. The atmosphere reflects the love the Owner Nick has for horse racing. There are pictures of racing horses throughout the restaurant. It is quaint and comfortable. There is a full bar and also a couple of good draft beers. Now, dessert. There is no better Cheesecake or Carrot Cake in the Greater Cincinnati area. You must have a piece. If you can't eat it there, take a piece home. Prices are reasonable for quality of food. You get plenty on your plate. The service is outstanding. Sue is the best. Parking is good. read more

We eat in or carry out about once a week from this place when we're in Cleves, Ohio which is most of the summer and a few weeks during the fall & winter. We've been disappointed lately the food is pretty good most of the time but the value is no longer good. We ordered two of their strawberry chicken salads when we picked up the order each salad had about 1/2 of a chicken breast each and when we picked up the order, they told us they were out of the peppercorn dressing which makes the salad. Cost over $30.00 no rolls nothing else. We're not planning on going back. read more

Someone in the kitchen has no clue as to what they're doing. It was during Lent and of course they were pushing fish. I'm not big on fish so I ordered a burger. I noticed there were onion straws on the menu. I love onion straws. Imagine my surprise when the onion straws tasted terrible. I sent them back and asked for another order. The second order was worse. It was then I realized the onion straws were fried in the same grease as the fish. What a rookie mistake. Horrible. Should never happen. Plenty of seating for breakfast (although I am told that dinner can get crowded). The Mazatlan is a 'south of the border' omelette prepared with chorizo sausage. The omelette was okay - I prefer it spivey and with real salsa. Highlight of the meal was the homemade grits. Rye toast was out of a bread bag from the local supermarket and not worth it. I super enjoyed my meal - I just had a cheeseburger it was v. good. Sweet potato fries were just okay. My fav part was the coffee... served with a whipped topping! My dinner date had a hot brown that looked wildly delicious and cheesy Bread pudding is super traditional and best with ice cream. I will definitely be back (and bring my appetite) to try some of the specials - specifically the pork chop! That is the one thing I noticed is most things come as a whole meal so you gotta come hungry or leave with a go box! Also, I've heard folks RAVE about the breakfast (served all day). Bottom line: Go to Nick's -- you won't be disappointed! From the moment we walked in the door, we were immediately welcomed by Nick himself who made us feel like we were their #1 customers. It's not often you receive such a warm reception at restaurants these days. He enthusiastically told us about a couple of their daily specials and then seated us in the bar area, as requested. [He even gave us control of the remote for the bar area tv!] Perusing their vast menu is a mouth-watering exercise -- so many delicious sounding options for breakfast, lunch and dinner! We landed on the Eggs Blackstone for me and the Hillbilly Breakfast special for hubby, which included their in-house made sausage, two eggs any style, home fries and a biscuit with gravy. Everything was absolutely delicious! Service was excellent as well. We will definitely visit again to try other entree options; my hubby had his eye on the Cuban, Cajun Carbonara, Open Roast Beef, Grilled Chicken Livers, and plenty of others. Wow it was fabulous and Sandy was the best NICK HAS COCKTAILS AND BEER!!!! My hubby got the burger and bloody Mary. It was one of the best burgers I have had and he almost didn't give a a bite I hit breakfast with a side of biscuits and gravy. Nick's is a west side gem. This is one of my favorite spots for brunch. They have amazing coffee with a chantilly cream that they make in house. It's the bomb. Sweet and thick, with a little taste of booze (they use brandy)! Nick's offers all of the breakfast staples. Omelettes, pancakes, waffles, eggs Benedict, all the meats and amazing biscuits and gravy. My personal favorite is the spinafuccini omelette which had spinach, tomatoes, feta, Monterey cheese and onions. So flavorful and cheesy. They're omelettes are served with fried potatoes and toast. You get a ton of food for what you pay. I always walk away with leftovers! The staff is so friendly and warm. A mixed review. The fried chicken was fantastic. The Cajun Mac and cheese was also really tasty. However the cheese burger was very dry and not at all appealing for my mother-in-law. Me, I ordered the fried roughy. The portion was just not what I expected. It was the "special" but it just wasn't what I had hoped for. I expected a nice filet that was hand dipped l. It was more if a prebreaded filet with a lot of corn meal. I ordered broccoli, but they were out of it and got roasted veggies instead. Just tried Nick's for the second time after a bad first experience, hoping they were just having an off day the first time I went. I ordered Mahi Mahi and it was so over cooked it was tough to chew through. It had absolutely no seasoning and came with a side of veggies that were super greasy. I ordered chicken fingers for my son from the kids menu and they brought a single chicken finger with some fries. The menu clearly says chicken fingerS with an "s" and they seriously brought a single chicken finger. The one star is for my server who did a good job. My mom and I had Sunday lunch at Nick's on Memorial Day weekend. We arrived after church, around 11:45, and they were packed! We were seated in a booth very close to the entrance and wait station, but did not wait very long for a server. I ordered the Kentucky Hot Brown with a salad, and my mom had the Crème Brulee French toast (a special for breakfast that day). I received my salad promptly, but was disappointed with it. The lettuce, a romaine blend, was very wet, and it only had a small slice of carrot and a cup of homemade croutons. The croutons were really good, I could have eaten an entire bowl of them, as was the Bleu Cheese dressing. But croutons and dressing does not justify a $3 charge for a wet plate of leaves. In the meantime, the gentleman who was greeting and seating customers (maybe Nick?), decided to mop the entrance as customers were arriving and leaving, which seemed like a major safety hazard considering the time of day. The floor looked perfectly clean to me. We did have a bit of a wait for our entrees, but they arrived hot and huge! My hot brown was the largest I have ever seen, with turkey and ham on top of toast, smothered in a slightly bland Béchamel sauce, blanket of melty cheese, and bacon. Mom's French toast was similarly enormous and very pretty with powdered sugar, fluffy sweet cream, butter, and pralines. It tasted like Heaven, sweet and creamy. I heard several people (including my mom) comment that it needed to be put on the menu permanently. Overall, the food was a solid 4 stars, but lost one for the wet $3 salad, and the place is slightly worn but decorated in a charming equine theme. Apparently Nick is a racehorse owner? Or a huge racing fan? Being a former track worker myself, I enjoyed the racehorse theme. We will definitely return sometime when I am back in town, since Mom and her friends eat there occasionally, and they advertise Jack salmon. read more
