My husband and I decided to give Nick's American Café a try one night while our son was at soccer practice nearby. I hadn't read any reviews, so I had no idea what to expect. It was great! I tried the Greek Gyro, which was delicious. My husband ordered the Cajun Carbonara, which was equally tasty. Both portions were huge, but even though we were both to stuffed for words, we couldn't pass up dessert, which was homemade. We tried the chocolate mouse cake. Yum! Today being Father's Day Nicks was extremely busy, we waited 1 hour for a table and 1 hour food our food. We chose to go there because we enjoy Nicks after church on Sundays & it is a convenient location. With that being said: Nick was EXTREMELY courteous to our group of 8 for the entire 2 hours. Although we did wait for food, he kept his guests updated and was present and working tirelessly to keep things moving as best he could! Because it was such a long wait, nick brought our table and the tables around appetizers of fruit on the house, and a small meal for my fiancé while he waited for his food ( I ordered the fried chicken entree which I was informed would be 30 minutes) but since our table was served, nick himself served my fiancé something while he waited! All of the waitstaff were extremely pleasant all the while they were completely slammed. Being a "holiday" we expected a wait anywhere, and instead of complaining chose to spend the quality time as a family, so thank you Nicks for hosting us a little longer than usual! Went to Nicks for the first time tonight. Amazing! Cassandra was a great server. Food was incredible. We were all trying each other's food to see which was best and we all won! I live near Nick's and have been there a few times growing up. It wasn't until my parents moved right by Nick's where I ate there consistently. This is seriously the best food. I think I had the Nick burger, or something similar, which was basically their version of the Big Boy and fries, and my wife had some sort of salad. A nice little cafe in a small town that has almost zero options. We were there today on Father's Day! The wait was long but expected as it's Father's Day and was a time after most church services on a Sunday for Father's Day in a town that has very little places to eat. There was 9 of us. The service was a tad slow but like I said, it was extremely busy. I got the fried chicken and they straight told my fiancé it would be at least 30 minutes for the fried chicken to be cooked and we knew that. As my family got there food first , Nick the manager and I believe owner apparently saw me sitting there with nothing. He asked if I was hungry and I said yea of course but no rush. He said I'll grab you an appetizer as we already knew we would be waiting possibly for the fried chicken and had no problem with that. He brings me a whole meal LOL. Stuffing, mashed potatoes, carrots and pork on a stick with dinner roll. I giggled and said appetizer huh. It was delicious and total curiosity of Nick. Minutes later, my fried chicken arrived and it was nothing short of amazing!!! Nick laughed if I was finished with my appetizer and got it out of my way and I enjoyed my chicken dinner! Terrible. We waited 2 hours for our meal. When we finally received our food it was ice cold and not what I was expecting at all. My brother got the egg benedict and the eggs were not cooked. My family asked the manager nick to have our meal to be free or have a discount . The manger chucked the bill at our table and he said "you will pay this now tough guy or I'm calling the cops". Loved this place. Had the South Beach French toast and it was absolutely delicious with their home made cream which I also put in my coffee. The owner, Nick, was there to greet us when we arrived and thanked us for coming in. My husband and I are not from the west side, but met a group of 5 couples for dinner at Nick's American Cafe. We all had wonderful food. My husband got the Loaded Nachos which were outstanding. I ordered the Chicken Quesadilla which was packed with big chunks of chicken. Yummy! Others at our table ordered everything from salads to a rueben to chicken tenders. Every person said their food was tasty and seemed homemade. The owner came out to check on everyone which was a nice touch. We will be back the next time we are in the Cleves area. read more

"A little slice of Americana" as the saying goes, this restaurant has been family owned under various names since it was opened in 1952, with many of the same people working. I am sad to have to give this diner 3 stars, but they're lucky they get that many from us. Our crew is visiting the area (North GA is home), and we were looking for local dinner options tonight. Naturally, I hopped on YELP to find some reviews. Yelpers led us to a great local experience last night at Strong's Pizza, so we hoped for similar success. Reading the reviews, we thought this would be a fantastic find, and we simply disregarded the single negative review as the comments seemed overly snippy. Unfortunately, our family of four agrees that this was mostly a flop, and we want you to know EXACTLY why: Other reviews had us expecting a FRIENDLY place with a charming atmosphere. That was our first impression; the overall look was inviting, but a fellow who appeared to be Nick of Nick's Diner walked right past us without a smile or any acknowledgment, and the myriad girls in the front didn't look too enthusiastic at our arrival. That wasn't the end of the world. I noticed the restaurant was mostly empty, and glanced hopefully around at comfy-looking booths and tables in cheery lighting. We followed a bored-looking girl across the front of the restaurant until she paused to ask another girl if she should seat us "up there." We were subsequently led to the dreariest, most isolated spot in the restaurant - no cheery lights, pleasant decor, or even good scenery here. Nope. A view of the parking lot and immediate access to the dirty dish containers. When removing our plates later, our waitress simply knelt in place and stuck our dishes at knee height on a stand next to our table. Although our waitress came by from time to time, we mostly felt forgotten in a dark corner of what otherwise seemed a cozy place. No other customers were ever seated in this area, nor did anyone but our waitress come close. From a distance, we heard the occasional pleasantry for those who must be regulars. Our food arrived within the anticipated time; however it came oddly separated on many plates (one modest piece of fish on a large platter, but side items on many small plates). My kids waited until we left, but they mentioned how awkward the waitress found it to place our dishes on the table. While the fried chicken was excellent, the rest of the food was unremarkable. Burnt rolls (I really love toasty crust, but these were burnt on the edges) limp, watery broccoli, and slightly tough pancakes were disappointing. My husband was very disappointed in his fish, but ate it. We spent $70 before the tip for a family of four (no dessert, no extras) on a sub-par experience. On our way back to the hotel, I asked the kids and hubby for their take on our dinner. Hubby suggested two stars, but we decided three would be reasonable. We all wondered why in the world we had been hidden away in a dark corner when there were so many open tables. My gut tells me that we were simply strangers - not people from the area or regulars. Today while looking for a breakfast I decided to take the family and give Nicks a shot. I won't bore you with a bunch of rethoric, just a snap shot of the good and not good. - service was mediocre to poor. We ate most of our meal with no drinks refills. Lindsey was gone more than she was around. - Nick or a gentlemen who was the company pitch man came to our table more than once to shoot the breeze. He neve picked up on the refill issue either. Note when directing your employees on rearranging the dining room, have them bring a water pitcher. - must have been a shortage of homefries today. Very small portion and my daughter got more burnt skins than potatoes...it was around 11:00 so they may have been running out - if your going to brag about your biscuits and gravy, make sure they get to the table hot. The piece of sausage up put on top shouldn't look like beef jerky. If your going to have signs that say your big on breakfast than specify if that's price or product. If I want quality I can go to Cracker Barrel quantity I can hit Stateline Rest then DCH. You have the potential, looked busy but with a pricey menu and small portions it can be a deal breaker. 2 adults, 2 kids, one kid only had bacon & chocolate milk and my bill was $41 and some change. read more

I like Nick's American Cafe, but my experience tonight left much to be desired. Tonight, Nick's American Cafe did nothing about the screaming three year old seated three feet behind me. The parents and the grandparents knew how disruptive the kid was (saying "quite, there are people trying to eat"). This went on for more than 30 minutes, making it difficult to hear my dinner companion seated across the table from me. When it was clear that the parents would take no responsibility, Nick's management should have stepped in to preserve the experience for EVERYONE else in the cafe. I couldn't tell you what I ordered. I do remember that it was salty, small, expensive, and that I left hungry. The greeter was great, and everything beyond that was downhill. Our server was only seen to take our order and bring us our check. Which left us with empty plates crowding the table and without refills. I was looking forward to ordering dessert, but after waiting so long on our meal, and then our server only offering with the check in hand, it seemed like it would only make a bad experience worse. My wife and I have now visited this restaurant twice and both times our meals have been very good. On our most recent visit, I tried the Kentucky hot brown and it was delicious and very filling. The wife tried the reuben sandwich with onion rings and seemed to enjoy the meal. Prices are fairly reasonable and service is good. After a hike in Shawnee Lookout four of us were looking for a good place to eat. We saw a bunch of signs along the road for this place and went for it. We are happy that we did. Two of us had the eggs Benedict that comes with local Ohio ham. Two of us had the spinfucinni omelette. Extra side orders of bacon and goetta. 100% satisfied. Great coffee with their "chantilly" cream, which is like a vanilla whipped cream. Excellent! Sat at bar and it was very comfortable for talking and eating. Great service. Nick's American Cafe was a recent find and I'm not sure how we missed it! The menu is extensive and varied; it is difficult not to find something to tickle your taste buds. Unfortunately, that many choices is overwhelming. Our service has varied ... we've have great waitresses and a not so great one. Our food has always been delicious. I highly recommend the rib platter and the reuben (the Leprechaun Wish Reuben is quite large). I never have enough room to try the pies, but they look delicious.
