Slow......interminable time to get drinks; appetizer; salad & then entree! Monday is martini night so...expect a lot of noise from big party of women! Filet was prime but tasteless! Pork chop was dried out. Bread was good as were house salads but... Yelp reviews extremely overrated! read more

We moved to the area during the pandemic, so we decided that this would be our celebratory meal once we were all vaccinated. The menu looked amazing and definitely seemed the kind of place where the food is better there. The waiter was friendly and very prompt. Some of the food was amazing, but honestly, for the price, I expected to eat something I could not very easily make at home. We paid over $100 for two people with one beer, one soda, one app, a cup of soup and two entrees. If the food was out of this world I'd have no problem paying that. But the quality and taste just did not justify the price of our meal. read more

My wife and I were spending the night in Chambersburg passing through on I81. We looking for an alternative to the fast food/chain fare offered at the exits. Bistro 71 was an excellent alternative. We had a really enjoyable meal. It's in the center of Chambersburg, only a short drive off the highway. We had the lamb lollipop appetizer and the lump crab and scallops entrees. It was all excellent, particularly the lump crab cake. read more

My family and I were blown away by the food at this restaurant. Driving in from the NYC metropolitan area, we were fairly certain pulling off somewhere in rural Pennsylvania wasn't going to yield anything spectacular. This turned out to be wildly incorrect. I can honestly say that I just ate the most delicious grilled cheese I've ever eaten. How much can you do with grilled cheese??? Apparently, a lot. The Parmesan-crusted bread was perfectly crisp, with creamy and flavorful goat cheese inside. Everyone smashed their food and loved every second of it. My family can be a bit (understatement) uptight about food, and we were all seriously impressed. read more

Stopped in here for dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020 after reading positive Yelp reviews. We had been driving for about 10 hours before stopping in Chambersburg for the night. We were looking for a good drink and dinner after a long day. Bistro 71 was just what the doctor ordered. Sat at the bar and was served by a friendly and competent bartender. Our dinners were very good. Loved the Chilean sea bass with the delicious polenta. A homemade waffle with ice cream dessert was also notable. This restaurant and bar is definitely worth a visit! read more

This food and service where was absolutely fantastic! I had the provolone chicken and my husband had the short ribs glazed in miso sauce with risotto. Everything was amazing, but the risotto was our favorite part. Also, be sure to try dessert. We had the New York cheese cake with a blueberry sauce and it was also amazing. It's worth every penny. Do be sure to make a reservation, especially on the weekend. We got there pretty early in the evening and they happened to have 2 tables that weren't reserved. read more

We had appetizers and martinis here recently and it was just okay. "Martini Monday" offers a variety of $5 rail martinis. Our favorites were the French and elderflower martinis, but there is something for everyone on their list. We ordered the calamari ($12) and the cheese platter ($16). Calamari was a small portion - good for one person. The flavor was good, but way overcooked. Cheese plate had slivers of brie, smoked gouda, and cheddar with a 1-inch honeycomb, 3 dried figs, 1 sad strawberry, 4 old grapes, a tiny bit of bacon jam and 4 old pita chips. The plate was very sad, and everything looked like it came from Aldi. I do not think we would order food here again. Best best would be to enjoy the cheap martinis and move on. This place is typical Chambersburg - overpriced and underwhelming. The best thing about the place was our waitress - very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. read more

We visited Bistro 71 quite a few times under its previous ownership and just tried it again under the new management. We liked it before and still like it now. The menu is similar, the food well prepared and the service as good as ever. To top off the night the previous owners were there; we enjoyed chatting with them. Came here because they had roast rack of lamb on the menu. Unfortunately, they've since changed the menu... They did have lamb lollipops (which I ordered); also had the duck (which was a special that night). Both were good: the lamb was in a chipotle glaze, sweet and just spicy enough. The duck was good as well, though the lamb was a hard act to follow... Price-wise...that's a tough judgment. My dinner came to $38, plus tax and tip. That included the appetizer, entree, salad, starch, and vegetable (which, at most places of this caliber, you'd pay for each item separately). So on that basis alone, it was a good deal. Add to this the fact that serving sizes are generous (the appetizer was four lamb chops for $10...throw in a salad and it would be a meal), and this place is definitely worth stopping by. read more

I am so happy that Bistro 71 exists downtown. It is a nice, eloquent spot for a few drinks and some delicious food. There is bar seating, indoor tables, and a nice patio area out back. They have happy hour from 4-6pm everyday with drink and food specials. The food is absolutely delicious. They have a bar menu with wraps and fries, an appetizer menu (the shrimp and lamb lollipops are cooked to perfection, the cheese plate is from all local suppliers) and a formal dinner menu with entrees. Nick is an amazing bartender and employee! He always treats us (and the others around us) with excellent service and really makes the Bistro stand apart from other spots in town. Love stopping in here and highly recommend that you check it out! It's a true gem in the downtown area. read more

Rarely do I find a restaurant that I didn't have anything good to say about it, but my recent trip to bistro 71 was such an occasion. I had there special which sounded pretty good, sausage tomato with a garlic sauce over fettuccine noodles. There were about six tiny slices of some nondescript sausage, about six sliced cherry tomatoes and a pile of overcooked noodles that stuck in a clump to the plate. To top that off I ordered a knob creek bourbon on ice of which was a very meager amount in the glass. I ordered a second one and got the same amount. To add insult to injury they charged me four dollars for the ice in my drink. read more

Stopped in here for a drink last weekend and ended up staying around for about 3 hours. The owners were awesome! We've been looking for a nicer, more welcoming, non-chain restaurant and we've now found it. We had dropped by here several months ago, but didn't get to fully appreciate the food and staff. I love the tapas style! Highly recommend the tenderloin and duck-delicious! Also, the bread with their tasty butter is worth it! Oh, and the mussels! This is how we ended up there for 3 hours...ordering one tapa at a time. Tot worth it! Also, our bartender-I believe her name is Sarah-was great! I was very impressed with our meal and service here. We were walking through the downtown and decided to try something a bit fancier. We were surprised to see the quality at Bistro 71. I had a fabulous scallop dish. Things that really stood out were the quality of their sides. The salad that was included in the dinner was far beyond anything I've received in the area as an "included salad," set up and tasting more like a main course, albeit a smaller portion. All the food was simply amazing. Truly felt like a 5* restaurant. A bit pricey for the ambiance, but I think it would be a great place for a date night. I hope they continue to do well. read more

Wow! I rolled into town on 10/06/17 and I gravitated to Bistro 71. Great local flavor. I sat at the bar and met many locals over many hours. Everyone knew each other which was promising. I ordered the lobster crab dip appetizer. Fabulous! Spiced properly, balanced flavors. While waiting for my main dish the locals at the bar gave my a wealth of information about Chambersburg. Then I was served my duck with blueberry gastric, fingerling potato and roasted carrot dinner. Amazing. Everything was perfectly cooked and yes, the blueberry worked with the duck! It is a must even if you need a few minutes to get there from I-81. read more

The food is delicious and elegant. They keep things simple in terms of the sides that come with the main courses, but the dishes they present have high quality ingredients and are presented in a sophisticated way. Love seeing duck, lamb, and various seafood as main dishes, to make it interesting. They were out of duck, which I wanted to try. Instead we tried the fillet mignon, scallops, fish special, and lamb which were right on. Our only complaint is that one kitchen staff was taking his smoking break twice near the patio where the outdoor seating was, and we kept smelling the cigarette smoke intermittently during our dinner, which was a major bummer. When traveling through the area, YOU MUST DRIVE 5 minutes off I-81 and stop to dine at this wonderful bistro or you will be missing something special and the gem of Chambersburg! Food is creative, well prepared and the flavors are outstanding. Lamb Lollipops, Crab Mound, Southwestern Salad and Oyster special were are amazing in quality and taste. THEN WE HAD THE MOCHA CRUMBLE which was the perfect end to a great meal! Larry and Barb who own this place are visible and wonderful hosts, engaging the patrons and they get what customer service is all about. We are foodies and will be back. Capped off a kid-free weekend with dinner on Saturday. Waiter recommended the fresh cut pork chop which was amazing. One of the best pork dishes I have ever ate. I can't wait to return ! Came in by myself & sat the bar. First noticed And impressed by the lighting in the decor. Looks like a great date place. I had read about this place on yelp and it's 4.5 stars so I was ready to be impressed by its French inspired cuisine. Yes The lollipop lamb chops were terrific as was the mussels on the appetizer menu. I sure wish I came in more hungry because I was looking forward to the duck but I was already full. Feeling a little awkward having dinner by myself which I rarely do - the staff made me feel comfortable and were engaging in conversation so I didn't feel too out of place. read more

Great drinks, great food. Nothing like the perfect atmosphere for girls night out. The grey goose martini was yummy. The tapas were tasty, calamari was perfect! We also had the The cheese brie plate. For dinner we ordered the lump crab with parmesan risotto and asparagus, so delicious. And also the chicken provolone perfectly cooked. And finally for dessert we ordered the peanut butter pie along with the blueberry New York cheesecake both very good. We were never rushed through dinner. Everything was just wonderful!! Excellent find for dinner. Started with caprese salad, ripe and luscious, just how you want it! Our entrees came w salad as well. I had the house (spinach, strawberry, pecan, feta and poppy dressing) and my date had Caesar (anchovies optional for $1) ; both were delicious. For entrees, I had scallops w risotto and asparagus, my date had the bacon jam pork chop w baby carrots and potatoes. Veggies were cooked perfectly, al dente w sea salt and a slight smokey flavor. Pork chop was outstanding! The scallops were perfectly cooked, though a little salty for my palette. Nice wine menu, great service and relaxing ambiance-- this was a great dinner! read more

Wanted to try the bistro for about a year. Finally made it here on a Friday night and was surprised that I alone could get a table. I ordered the duck breast and in short it was amazing. Robust duck flavor, both sweet and succulent, the thought of additional sauce would ruin the delicate flavors that emirate from this unassuming dish. I was told that you can't lose on this menu, which makes me a the more curious what the other selections will be like. Will visit again. read more

I have two words for ya: lobster ravioli. My husband had been raving about the food here for months and we finally got a chance to make the trip and I'm so glad we did. The restaurant is so inviting, warm and friendly. Our server was at tentative and knowledgeable. Our food was incredible. We shared the fabulously tender lamb lollipops and for dinner my husband had the Ahi Tuna and I had the lobster ravioli. Portions were filling and incredible and 5/5 on presentation. We finished the night off with the waffle and ice cream for dessert. I can see why he spoke so highly about this place. You will not be disappointed! read more
