I went here for my DC trip to eat.. biggest mistake ever. Right as we walked in I could smell a weird smell just from that I knew eating here was gonna be bad. The area looked sketchy. The food was just ew, so bad my classmates and stomach hurts after we ate. The Mac and cheese was alright the catfish LITERALLY catfishes us because why in the tung tung suhur did it look like a chicken wing like excuse me, the ice cream was nice you can't really mess up ice cream right.. the pie on the other hand was not good at all still don't know how... you can't mess up pie I am pretty sure it was radioactive.. anyways the service was nice. But I don't think you should eat here it was absolutely terrible even though some of my teachers claimed it was good but I saw many of them make faces.. read more

Some folks were coming into town and we wanted to meet so I checked the yelp app and came up with Heartland Diner. Our service was good, food was good, and the diner was clean. We were sat in a tight little section of tables such that every time someone, a server or customer, wanted by, we had to tuck our elbows in or bend our torsos. I requested well done toast and it wasn't well done, not even the second time. Our server offered to take it back and try again and fearing getting charcoal back, just decided to eat one piece. This is like a diner but as a restaurant. The decor is more country style (a little aged) and the place was clean and the people nice. Our waitress gave us great service. We were a party of 5. I got the breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage (it came with both). A lot of food for the price. I could've easily split my meal with someone. Some of our party got the crab cakes and were pleasantly surprised how good they were. (They were recommended by the people we met there.) One of our party got liver and onions and was pleased. Two people got the tapioca pudding, which I thought was an off choice for dessert, but they said it was the best they ever had and it was light and fluffy. Stopped again twice this past week at the Heartland diner. Once for lunch and once for breakfast. For lunch, my wife and I both had the special luncheon fried cod basket that came with french fries fries, and coleslaw and two drinks. We really both had a hankering for some fish and this really hit the spot. And... Since it was a luncheon special, it was only $9.95. Service was good, the fish was excellent, the fries were very good, coleslaw was also quite nice. You can see some pictures of the meal that I posted along with this review. This morning we stopped again at the diner for breakfast. I had eggs Benedict, which I can give a solid B+ and my wife had a blueberry muffin. 'Twas an overcast Saturday late morning in late April when I noted hunger pangs, fancied breakfast, and decided to visit the Heartland Diner. There were numerous cars parked in the spacious lot, yet I was almost immediately greeted, seated, provided with a menu, and had my beverage order taken (Before I forget, they have Pepsi products) I decided upon the Heartland Feast which consisted of 2 eggs, home fries, toast, sausage patty although they also serve links, and French Toast rather than pancakes. The serving size was epic (see my photo) and I'm glad I had brought a hearty diet to the Heartland Diner. The music was of my era (born the summer of '55), the price reasonable (see breakfast all day menu) and the service quite good. This would not be considered luxury dining, but is is great-tasting food in a great (for parking) location in this most historic and well-known borough. Heartland diner was absolutely fine. The four of us had usual breakfast fare: an omelet, pancakes, 2 different kinds of Eggs Benedict. All was decent except the potatoes were very bland. Service was as attentive as expected, food didn't come out quickly but it didn't take super long. They had a decent pastry case but nothing looked irresistible. The booth we sat in was roomy, the interior of the restaurant looks like any other breakfast/lunch place, clean bathrooms. Very run of the mill but in a tourist town, that's what you want. read more

My family and I visited this establishment for the first time, and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from the moment we walked in. We were unsure whether to seat ourselves or wait to be seated, and no one acknowledged us. A staff member continued her personal conversation at the counter while looking in our direction but made no effort to greet or assist us. We eventually seated ourselves, and a young man brought menus. When I asked whether we were supposed to wait to be seated, he simply said, "You're OK." Only then did the woman who had been watching us finally come over to take our order. By that point, the lack of professionalism and courtesy was clear. We chose to excuse ourselves and leave. Based on this experience, my family and I will not be returning. read more

Had high hopes for this new diner. Sadly it was a huge disappointment. We had two different steak dinners one ordered rare and the other medium rare. The rare came out well done at first and could hear the waitress having an attitude telling the kitchen we wanted it done rare. The medium rare came out rare if not raw. The "rare" second steak came out completely raw with not even any sear to it. The third dish was the fried fish and it was soggy as if it was microwaved. Overall terrible experience. The waitress was hard to track down and when we did get get to the table it was constant attitude even after explaining many times we know that the food isn't her fault and was very polite and patient with her. My little breakfast group ate here just before the restaurant changed hands and we all were impressed with the food and the service staff. We're happy to report that everything is pretty much the same after the ownership change. I won't try to recall what everyone had to eat but our meal was a perfect prelude to a road trip over to Hagerstown to see one of the last of the Fairchild A-10 "Warthogs" fly in to go on permanent display at its home factory. My husband got the chicken fried steak and it came with home fried eggs and toast. Huge portion for $12!!! I got the jalapeño skillet. So good!!! The waitress was even kind enough to bring me a sample of chocolate milk when I asked what brand it was. She was very sweet. All the staff was welcoming and smiling and making eye contact (you seriously don't get that everywhere anymore) we are from out of the area. Be very careful, use cash only. Placed carry out order paid with debit card and gave cash tip. After picking up order and leaving extra charge was added to my debit card, when I saw the charge come through my account tried calling someone in charge, get different answers each time, he's & sometime she's not in, call later, finally talked to a man saying he was owner, was offered refund or gift card, refused as I won't be going back. Excellent. We have been multiple times. We have been for breakfast , lunch and dinner. We have never had anything bad. It's all been hot and terrific and food! The Tuna melt is fabulous!!!! Waffles are amazing! The dinning room is clean and well spaced out. The wait staff is super sweet and accommodating to whatever you may need. The coffee is on point! Prices are extremely reasonable. This place was absolutely horrible..We had to sit 30 minutes for our food while everyone else got their food before us and we were there before them. Once we finally got our food some of it was missing. I had to split my meal. Everything there wasn't even worth 1 penny.
