Came here in April 2022. Terrible service- the server gave our food to another table and we didn't receive our food for an hour and a half after ordering. If you're a tourist coming to Paris, avoid this place. The food is fine but since it is a Gratin it takes 20-25 minutes to make and cook in their oven. My visit to Le Bistrot des Augustins made for a perfect Parisian lunch experience! The cafe serves up in"SEINE"ly delicious casseroles and offers carafes of wine for only €5! Based on that alone, how can you possibly go wrong? The cherry on top is that it's practically heaven for every Basic Batch out there (myself included) looking to indulge a bit on the picturesque Seine River. The only thing that wasn't perfect for me was that the service was quite slow on our impatient American standards. This lunch probably took about 2 hours from start to finish, so go in with the expectation that you'll be -relaxing- and it will work out great! If you go in with this mindset, you'll better enjoy the delicious French food, a "classy" buzz, and tons of people watching opportunities as you absorb the local flavor at a leisurely pace. While in a highly touristy area, the Bistrot seems to be a meeting spot for locals. The menu is limited, but everything is delicious. Their specialty is potato gratin. They have several kinds that all sounds tasty. If you feel like comfort food or a traditional French meal, this is it. Also, the pour on the liquor was quite generous. We found this place by walking by and noticing a delicious aroma. And the food lived up to it! I got a duck, potato and cheese casserole and LOVED it. We had a vegan/vegetarian person with us and she was able to get something she liked too. They make all au gratin casseroles in many variations - all made fresh, you can see them making them. This was exactly what we needed today. The cheese dishes (at the bottom of the menu) were AMAZING- each of us tried a different one and none disappointed. The cheese was rich and creamy and the spices and different flavors of vegetables and meat perfectly complimented each other. Perfect meal size of great quality for only €13! BEST. Gratin. EVER. This is the spot to come to if you're craving a hearty, home-cooked meal. We arrived after lunch time so there were very few customers in the restaurant (We heard this place often gets busy). We had to flag down the lady in the restaurant to order. I ordered the Fermier; chicken gratin with vegetables. I watched the lady go into the back and pull out several plastic boxes where she was assembling the gratin. She put them in the oven to cook and we waited. It did take a while but it was well worth the wait. The gratin was super hot and the cheese was bubbling for so long. Just a heads up, this isn't your average restaurant where the waiter checks on you and brings over your check. You do need to flag down the woman and go up to the bar to pay. Well to say the least, this is a difficult review to write. I should have had a bad feeling when I saw that no other tables had food, but I soon learned my lesson. After waiting approximately 15 minutes, we were asked for our order. 30 minutes after ordering, the waiter returned to ask us what we had ordered. While we are not from France, this did not seem normal to us. In the end, we ended up with the worst cheese plate I had ever seen, a salad that had brown old lettuce and a cheese gratin was delicious. Also, whoever wrote about great service, I think we went to different restaurants. Not only did it take over 3 hours to get our food, but while waiting the only waiter sat down with another party and began to have a smoke break. While the gratin was delicious, I don't know if I would wait again and I definitely would not order anything else on the menu. read more

If you like Au Gratin then you must visit this little gem! This is a cozy little hole-in-the-wall place that is known for it's traditional Au Gratins. The dishes are each perfect, with a lovely balance of cream, spices, vegetables and protein--and served piping hot! The gratins take a bit of time to prepare so don't bother if you are in a rush. For those that venture in, you will surely not be disappointed. My aunt and I tried two of them and not a morsel was left behind because we loved them both so much! I will definitely visit again on my next trip to Paris. I hope next time the Notre Dame is more restored, as this restaurant is an eyeshot away and it is saddening to see the somewhat ruinous siloette of the cathedral when visiting. Two Americans from Miami walk into this little bistro the day before New Years at night and have a night to remember. Such a warm welcome and friendly people. We ordered a bottle of wine so we can lounge and relax after dinner. The ambiance was spectacular and intimate as the staff was very attentive and friendly. The bottle of wine was spectacular as it was recommend by one of the members of the staff, a warm and kind french woman who was behind the counter, a courteous English male and a kind hispanic male, such diversity in a small location around the world. The night was coming to an end and the bistro was near closing time. However, we were not rushed like in other places to leave or given the bill. The staff struck conversation with us and assisted us in putting together a list of places to see and visit during our stay in Paris. They were even kind enough to help us with common French sayings and words to help us with the locals and while speaking to others. We struck great conversation as the night ended.
