I need to rant. I don't even want to but must say a few words (after a few things on twitter briefly). I am in Paris for #SialParis and had a great time generally until now. While having dinner I had a waiter basically made me feel uncomfortable who, although being friendly, did this. He asked me the typical (not the first time this has happened to) "so where are you actually from originally?" Note, for ethnic minorities like me saying USA isn't enough everyone has to absolutely know where you are from. I answered him politely. Then he returned and made some stupid comment, which I got annoyed and offended. After that he realized I was annoyed and made a comment saying basically in summary "I was joking chill out." After those I was with for dinner left (whom I didn't say I was upset but must have figured it out) I immediately confronted the manager/owner of this place and to my astonishment was not sympathetic at all but actually yelled at me for basically complaining (the owner/manager)! In fact, he cut me off halfway to answer a phone call. I didn't know what to do so I left as he was on the phone. I legitimately feel not only embarrassed but ashamed and dehumanized by this experience. Forget the waiter but the owner of this place who basically showed me he didn't give a crap of what I felt the entire experience eating at his restaurant. Nevertheless, I love Paris but this experience is beyond crap. I will no longer deal with this crap. To be fair, the waiter after I left did try to apologize (before I confronted them after realizing I was upset and after) but the owner did not and, as I said, dehumanized me. Point being, I'm not only sick and tired of being treated like a "so where are you really from" but the fact I got yelled at for complaining for a pretty legitimate excuse for feeling uncomfortable is completely unacceptable.
P.S. I was trying to do this in as much French as I could but owner yelled at me in front of everyone at the restaurant read more
