    Borek

What a gem! We have ordered take out four times since moving to the neighborhood. The food is hearty, tasty, and well priced. In particular, I recommend Borek (a vegetarian spinach and feta pasty) and the Chicken Special (grilled chicken with pita and eggplant in a tomato sauce over rice). Every dish we've ordered has included salad and bit of hummus. The prices are more than reasonable for the quantity and quality. The owner is wonderful. They generally have just a few staff working. Yes, this means it can take a moment for the food to be ready (sorry the other reviews complaining about this are ridiculous), but they've always provided a reasonably accurate time for when the food will be ready. Even more, the owner has sometimes thrown in dessert as a kind gesture.

Loved this! I'll say I was a bit skeptical walking in, it's a small place with not a lot of staff and I was afraid it would be too slow. We also showed up a half hour before closing, not realizing it, but we were graciously welcomed in. And the food spoke for itself. It was well paced and not slow for us at all. We had a great time chatting with the owner about the neighborhood, her family, about Turkey and the disco food and how they cook each dish. We tried some new wine from Turkey, went crazy for the baked feta and were stuffed half way through our entrees but kept going anyway. And of course we had to stay for Baklava!! This is such a gem, a charming family business with the quality of any other restaurant in Madrona. I highly recommend giving this spot a try. I will be back!!

    Absolutely loved the lamb plate!

The instant and…read moreenthusiastic exchange when making a reservation via Open Table, the warm and welcoming greetings at the restaurant, and the cozy and tasteful interior design, all set the stage for a phenomenal experience. No exaggeration - the service rivals that customarily received at a Michelin star restaurant. Victoria and Matthew were attentive, knowledgeable, charming, and thoroughly professional. No wish or desire was too small to fulfill. It was a hot and sticky day, so I asked if they had Ayram, a Turkish yogurt drink. Matthew said it wasn't on the menu, but assured me that the bartender could whip one up for me. And it was perfect. Just the right balance of creamy, salty, and iced deliciousness. I've had Turkish food often, but everyone has their own personal twist. Matthew, Victoria, and I collaborated on building my dinner menu, they provided thoughtful recommendations and answered questions about ingredients. I started with Kereviz, a grated celery root dish plated on a bed of yogurt and topped with dried figs and plenty of brown butter. I asked for a piece of (homemade) lavash to soak up the sauce.I was planning to bring leftovers to a friend and had difficulties not finishing the dish and licking the plate clean. Insanely good. For the main dish, i had difficulties trying to decide between Börek, a personal favorite, and the lamb belly Kebap. Matthew said the pastry was very good, but they are known for their Kebap and chop the meat fresh daily with the huge curved cleaver displayed by the grill. Excellent choice. The meat is delicately flavored and grilled perfectly. Fatty juices ooze into the lavash which is served under the meat. The star of the dish, though, was the tomato and onion salad which accompanied the dish. Bright, flavorful and sprinkled with sumac - I could eat buckets of this salad. The Ayran complemented it beautifully. Again, tough to hold back and not finish the plate. Finally, it was time to select dessert. I am not a huge fan of poppyseeds, so consulted with Victoria. She recommended it very highly, saying she could eat an entire trayful, plus, it was seasonal and be retired within the next day or two. Best decision. The witty presentation (the plate looks like the bottom of a volcano - lava-like.) and it is lovingly finished table side with freshly grated sea salt from the Philippines. Rustic, yet sophisticated dessert, which pairs exquisitely with a cup of strong Turkish coffee. Since it was topped with a cocoa ice cream, I had to finish the dish and just tell my friend later how fabulous it tasted. Victoria boxed my leftovers with great care to ensure the food looked just as appetizing as in the restaurant. Matthew asked if I would be interested in a tour of the kitchen. I couldn't help laugh, since I was sitting at the center of the chefs table with a direct view of everything. Glad I did. Each station, including the bartender, wished me haooy birthday and enquired whether I enjoyed my meal. The dedication and pride in creating a perfect dish was evident and really underscored the quality of this restaurant. The price for three courses was fair, considering the ingredients, preparation, and level of service. The restaurant has a variety of seating options: chefs table, as well as larger and smaller tables . Chefs table was fun, and plenty of room to enjoy your meal without feeling crowded. A definite must. I look forward to my next visit.

Unfortunately, two aspects of the experience have stayed with us for less positive reasons. First, the 28 oz. porterhouse was listed simply as "MP," and the price was not disclosed when we ordered. We only discovered when the bill arrived that it was $209. At that price, the restaurant should share the market price with guests rather than putting them in the position of having to ask. With tax and the automatic 20% gratuity, our dinner for two came to $524. More disappointing, though, was how the evening ended. We were seated directly in front of the open kitchen and had watched chef/co-owner Berk Güldal warmly acknowledge other guests taking the restaurant's kitchen tour throughout the evening. We hadn't requested a tour and actually tried to leave without doing one as the restaurant was getting busy, but our server caught us and insisted we go through. The other kitchen staff were lovely--one even congratulated us on our marriage. But when our server brought us to Berk and began to introduce him, Berk turned his back to us and would not acknowledge us. Our server waited awkwardly for him to turn around, eventually gave up, and moved us along toward the exit. What was that about? Who knows. Having grown up in and worked in hospitality for more than three decades, I understand that restaurants get busy and chefs have a lot going on during service. But if a restaurant is going to insist that guests tour the kitchen, basic acknowledgement from the chef/owner doesn't seem like an unreasonable expectation--particularly after we'd spent the evening watching him extend that same courtesy to other guests. I wish the food were what stood out most when I think back on Hamdi, because it was good. Unfortunately, what has stayed with us instead is a $209 "market price" for a porterhouse that wasn't disclosed when we ordered, and an unnecessarily rude ending to an otherwise lovely meal.

I moved to Washington a few months ago and it has been incredibly difficult to locate a restaurant that sells Turkish delights so of course when I discovered this place, I had to plan a visit for my sweet treat craving. I don't often stop by Pike's Place because it's so crowded here, but i will say the Turkish delights have been worth the trip. They're simple and small bite sized pieces but they are satisfactory enough for me since I can't find any other options around. They offer a variety of flavors including (but not limited to) rose, peach, passionfruit, and mango. My personal favorite is probably the mango. They offer two different amounts of Turkish delight, costing up to about $16 excluding tax but can last me for a few days if I don't immediately inhale them all. I'm interested in their soup and baklava, though I'm not sure if I will give them a try since turkish delight is only on my mind when I visit lol My only negative criticism is that it tends to get busy here, which equates to a decline with an ideal customer service experience. There's either already plenty of people when I arrive or people start filling up the place after my arrival. I don't mind waiting in line BUT the lines here are very disorganized and there's no clear indication of where to order and where to purchase so I've been very p!ssed off for my last visit when I lined up to the main line (on the right) for my sweets, just for everyone else after me to get helped first because they cut in front to the other side of the counter (on the left). It's unspoken apparently but the main line is for the food/meat items.. I'm not exactly a fan of this level of disrespectful service that caters to entitled customers. It's a shame because I do want to return, when I'm in the area, for my turkish delights.. I really hope they improve..
