We asked for coffee three times to get a second one. We told them that's fine if it is extra. Too bad my review would be much better because food was good. We ordered plain eggs and bread basket. Egg is ok. Coffee and Croissant was very good and bread as well. If they make this breakfast a little better ( put butter separate instead of putting on the bread, better jam and honey options, they have only one jam you usually get in flights) I think this place is a good breakfast choice. read more

We were in Paris for three nights, and we came to Bistrot Richelieu for two. What does that tell you? It's pretty good. Old Fashioned - the bartender blew me away with his version of this very go-to drink of mine. I never expected the Old Fashioned to be so on point five thousand miles away from home. Duck confit- this dish was delicious, although a bit on the saltier side (which I didn't mind). Beef tartare - while my partner-in-crime was caught off guard by the rawness of this dish, I finished it for him without hesitation. The beef was exceptionally fresh and well cured. The flavor is eccentric (not for everyone but perfect for me the raw food lover). Onion soup - being an iconic French item, this dish is nothing extraordinary here at Richelieu. It is more of a comforting starter which we both enjoyed. The crowd here is a mixture of American and European travelers, with a small percentage of locals. The waiters and bartenders are witty, stylish, swift, and young gents that work hard to please. You can hardly go wrong with this establishment. Great staff but that's where it ends. Ordered a T-bone steak medium rare. 1/2" thickness overcooked and extremely fatty. French fries barely warm. Burger was just ok. The restaurant was packed so apparently it's a popular place. We told the waiter who kindly offered to give us another steak but at that point we were unwilling to wait. We asked they take it off the bill and they indicated we said didn't want another meal. They did end up removing it from the bill. The best Onion Soup! This place is a GEM. We stayed in Paris for a week, and we know there are plenty of amazing restaurants in Paris. However, Richelieu blew our mind. The menu has everything you would like to try, in addition to their daily specials which were amazing. Day 1: We ordered Homemade French Onion soup, it was delicious and tasteful. Homemade Pork Pate & Pickels, a bit different than duck pate. The pickles and flavor are amazing. The best part of the meal was the sauce and the duck with potatoes and mushrooms and beef stew was delicious as well. Day 2: We order snails, Burrata Salada and Caesar Salad. Bistrot Richelieu is an English-speaking friendly French restaurant! This restaurant wasn't a far walk from our hotel and was the perfect lunch spot. We wanted French food and arrived around 12ish. There were a few tables at the time and it started to fill up pretty fast. They have French and English menus which was great! The servers were nice, which is a huge plus! We ordered the pate to share. We thought it was the pate spread, but it turned out good with the little salad and sliced pickles that was also on the board. My fiancé ordered this sausage dish and it wasn't that great. So if you're not entirely sure about anything, just ask! Lol. I ordered the salmon salad and it was so good! TL:DR It's a TRAP!!! Find another French restaurant now. Stumbled upon Bistrot Richelieu after looking at the highly rated reviews on Yelp and Google (our first French dining experience). My cousin and I just wrapped up walking around Lourve for hours, so we came in with empty stomachs. Usually when you're on a empty stomach, good food tends to taste a lot better, but this wasn't the case here! The ambiance here feels a mix of locals and tourists. They have English menus for those out of town. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Service- pretty friendly staff. Waiter memorized our entire order, but he did forget some of the stuff.....or so we like to assume he did. Since it was our first real meal of the day, we decided to order a bit of everything on the menu, mainly the recommended dishes and what yelp advised us to. Appetizers: Snails - ordered 6 snails, because we are in Paris. This dish was decent. The snails lacked flavor. Onion Soup- such a disappointment! People on yelp and google raved about this, but it was plain and just not good. We barely finish it. Duck Foie Gras - this might have been the best dish we ordered, but it was just okay. The foie gras was super heavy and a big chunk. The weird part was that we were only given 3 pieces of bread for a huge chunk of foie gras (see picture). Entrees (*this took a bit long to come out to the point where we just thought they forgot. We even asked for the bill as it took forever) Salmon Tatare - (went with salmon as a bunch of people said they got food poisoning from steak the tartare on yelp). This dish was not good at all. The salmon lacked flavor, where we had to salt it. Strongly discourage getting this. Duck confetti - the duck was a bit dry. Although there were certain parts that were flavorful, majority of the duck was dry. Drink- Coffee (their recommended one)- first sip was flavorful, but after that it got very bitter. I usually like my coffee black, but this was beyond bitter for my liking. Overall- the food was just okay. I think the fact that the waiter forgot my coffee, took forever for the entrees (we still think they forgot, and added it on at the end), flavorless food, it set a bad taste in our mouths. We stayed near the Louvre and fortunately we found this gem near the area. Excellent food, extremely friendly service, and an authentic feel overall. Our first dinner in Paris was here and we enjoyed it very much. The staff was very helpful and attentive and helped us make a a good dinner and wine choice. We had French onion soup which was very good. My wife had beef bourguignon and I had chiken with ratatouille. We also had dessert which was a Hazel nut cream puff which was slightly over chilled but still good. So after wrapping a day at the Louvre and immersing myself into a deep cultural experience, ended up pretty close to this area and found myself walking over to grab lunch. After perusing the menu, we decided to order the beef tartare, the lunch special which was a steak with a potato on the side, foie gras and a bottle of white vino. The servers were kind enough to bring out an ice bucket to put our white wine in which was nice. The foie was first out and it was good. Not the best but it was a good amount for the price point we paid. The beef tartare with side salad was good and the special was solid as well. The steak itself was cooked well with the sauce put on top not being overpowering but well balanced especially with the potato itself. I still have a few days left on my trip in Paris, but I was very pleased with my food and service here. When I first walked in, the staff was very prompt in greeting us. For drinks, my boyfriend and I ordered hot (red) wine and got chocolate. Both drinks were perfectly warm. The hot wine was paired with a cinnamon stick and orange slice as garnish and flavoring. You can change the sweetness by adding the provided sugar. The hot chocolate comes unsweetened, but very rich. Both are very good for a cold winter night. As an appetizer, we had 6 snails. It came with a pick and a shell holder. The technique to eat the escargot is interesting. Try not to make a mess with the shell slipping like my boyfriend!! Or else the nice French lady next to you will start teaching you how to eat escargot (highlight of the night). But, very tender and flavorful snails. Paired well with the provided bread. Little did I know that a quick lunch would turn into a 2+ hour lunch due to the ridiculously slow service. The server was very nice, but the amount of time it took for our food to come out was ridiculous. We ordered the escargot, a duck dish, and a chicken dish. The escargot came out relatively quickly and I thought it was really good. However, I did get a pretty bad stomachache very shortly after leaving the restaurant and I'm wondering if the escargot is what caused it. The rest of the food took about an hour to come out. I have no idea why it took so long considering neither dish was cooked well. The duck was okay.. could have been better but the sauce was good and I liked the mashed potatoes even though it was extremely buttery. The chicken dish was HORRIBLE. Not many places appeal to both locals and tourists; this place does, with a beautiful yet relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. It also remains open during those golden hours between the end of lunch service and the beginning of dinner, while many places follow tradition and close at that time. I couldn't leave Paris without having croque madame, and I needed a place that would be accommodating for my 3 year old. The kids menu was simple with just three items, all equally priced.
