Stopped by Bite Food & Coffee on a Wednesday morning around 7:45am - there were only a few people in the cafe so early in the morning. Love the atmosphere and decor of the cafe, so spacious with many seating options available. The cafe has two clean bathrooms in the back, many outlets under the seats, good fast wifi, a parking lot, nice workers, and a large variety of breakfast and lunch options on the menu. I ordered the Trop acai smoothie bowl ($10) and Avo Power shake ($8) - a nice big refreshing breakfast made on the spot. I love avocado and acai! So close to Hackensack hospital for a quick bite to eat during a lunch break. Not sure, I like only being able to order off their app and even targeting a time as it didn't work for me. Even though we were eating in, everything was packaged to go. I wish they had an option on their app to say that we would be eating in so everything isn't mushed into a to-go package. Bite is a cute and trendy spot for a casual lunch or dinner. They have a lot of great options and are very accommodating to customers' needs. I don't know why it took me so long to come here but I'm happy that I finally did. We both ordered the bite burger. I'm on a low carb diet and I was able to get mine in a lettuce bun. The burger comes with smoked gouda, sautéed onions, crispy shallot, pickles, special sauce. The special sauce was like a chipotle mayo. Overall, the burger was delicious! I'd take a BITE out of this place anytime. My husband found Bite on Yelp (he's the always hungry one lol) while looking for places that had something I'd eat. He mentioned to me several times and we never made it over together until this past weekend. This place is a VIBE From the photo op entryway to the music and stereo system in the back to the greenery all around and art. I could just sit up in this place and sip green juice, munch on avocado tacos wrapped in lettuce while working and people watching. The staff is very friendly and provide great input when asked about food when ordering. My husband had a burger with turkey bacon, our boys had a cheese pizza, I had avocado tacos and for the table we ordered the avocado quesadillas. The boys pizza was very thin and cheesy just how they like it. There was fresh basil nested into the cheese as well. The avocado tacos were so good, I had two on corn tortillas and one on lettuce as the order comes with 3 tacos and you can mix and match the shells. They were so good that I wish the order came with 6. The avocado quesadillas were amazing they were filled with bell peppers, onions, etc.. my husband really enjoyed his turkey burger. We ordered two green juices as well and they were tasty. Loving Bite - a new cool and casual eatery that has me wondering if I'm in LA or Hackensack. Spoiler alert, it's in Hackensack. But the vibes here are so chic and trendy that I definitely don't feel like I'm in a strip mall off of the turnpike. Decor -- on point. Marble grey and white tables (for that photo-worthy backdrop), light pink chairs and plates + cups, tons of hanging greenery. I mean, when you walk in you are instantly greeted with a massive floral backdrop that has a hot pink light up 'Eat Ya'll' sign hanging on it. So trendy! Menu -- absolutely huge. Pizza, brekkie foods, sandwiches, salads, tacos, healthy bowls, grilled cheese. Something to satisfy every craving. Food -- delish and fair priced! Ordered a sandwich with turkey, arugula, brie and honey mustard. The sandwich was 9 dollars and was pilled high with so many toppings. The cold brew was strong and refreshing. I initially thought I'd be working from a Starbucks and eating a reheated egg sandwich and this was such a nice surprise. Another place I discovered on Uber Eats and really love. They have a good variety of options, most of which are fresh and "healthy." I order from them now at least once a week for lunch because I love their bowls and sandwiches. Their smoothies are a great after a workout and they make great coffee too. Their pizza is good but I see it as more of flatbread than pizza. Their burgers are decent but I would get again. Have not tried their tacos yet but looking forward to soon. I hate to have to do another poor review about a restaurant that can't cook a decent burger, but IMO if you can't, then you aren't much of a restaurant. To the point, if you have the preference of rare, medium rare, medium or well done and no matter what your preference is, they cook it well-done, then what was the point of giving that option. This little gem is amazing! It is different from any food establishment in the area, and always packed during lunch hour. Everything I've had from the breakfast food to lunch did not disappoint so far. It is a bit over priced, but the ambiance makes up for it. Once upon a Sunday afternoon, October 10th to be exact at 3:10 pm I stopped by this cute restaurant called Bite. After making my selection of Goodness Greens ($10) and added grill salmon ($6), I took my number and politely sat down to wait for someone to deliver my food to my table. Let me tell you about the salad. Greens, lots of greens, baby spinach, roasted corn, avocado, tortilla strips, red onion, cherry tomatoes and goodness dressing. The first bite tells you to go for the second, third, fourth, tenth, twenty something until it is all gone. By the second bite, I ask for an extra dressing, yummy. A friend of mine kept raving about this places truffle fries & I was NOT disappointed. Well worth the trip! I ended up ordering them twice. Second time I asked for extra truffle oil & Parmesan. This restaurant never responds to any inquiries, often removes and substitutes ingredients from orders without informing the customer or at least asking about any allergies, and is completely unapologetic about it when confronted. I saw an ad for this place on Facebook, and a lot of the comments spoke about the quality and how good it was. What also drew me in was the picture of the breakfast sandwich (good marketing!) I ordered: 1. The Nash sandwich: "crispy seasoned chicken thigh, over medium egg, arugula, chili honey, ciabatta" - absolutely delicious. 2. El Toro burrito: "pulled brisket, soft scrambled eggs, charred onion, chimichurri, crispy shallot, home fries, chipotle bbq, pressed tortilla" - WOW. It really does look like the picture on the menu. It's super flavorful, and balances out well with the potatoes. 3. Avocado fries - I think I would prefer this in a sandwich or wrap, but it paired nicely with the burrito. 4. We ordered a Burrata burger, Bite burger, Fish tacos, and Avocado fries. The Bite burger was probably the best thing we ordered. I wanted it cooked medium and it came medium. So that's good. The fish tacos were below average. The tortilla wasn't soft and the fish was flavorless. The Burrata burger and avocado fries were ok, but not great by any means. Prices are on the high side IMO. Very good find. It is right next to the Starbucks on Essex St in Hackensack. Try the BEC sandwich. It's Bacon (turkey bacon) Egg (over medium) and cheese. I opted to order avocado to add it to the bagel egg sandwich and it's awesome. I asked them to squeeze and orange/pineapple drink and it was good, and about $8. It isn't on the menu, but they were able to do it and ordered agave too! Everyone was very pleasant and we'll definitely to keep ordering and supporting during this pandemic! Update- Ordered dinner here tonight and we tried the OG pizza, quesadilla & onion rings. All very good as well! The onion rings are very good. Whatever they're battered with is very good. They do observe Covid restrictions with tables being separated and food being picked up by the patron instead of having it delivered to the table. Although the food is pricey, it was fresh and delicious. It was also hearty. The nine dollar pizza was basically a half of a large pizza delivered in a very long rectangular box. I had the fish tacos which came in a container. The shell was soft and cold, but the food inside was very tasty. I noticed lots of outlets around to charge your phone. You must bring an actual plug to do that. This was the perfect place to enjoy a quick bite to eat. Also the Coffee was delicious. Had the everything bagel with chive cream cheese, the Avo with fried avocado inside, and the scrambled out, which is a burrito stuffed with eggs, kale and mushroom. Everything was good. I came here today with a friend for lunch. I had a chicken snitzel salad with warm pita bread. It was absolutely delicious. This is a cozy well ventilated restaurant with reasonably priced eats. This place has good food for decent prices. I appreciate the indoor decor. However, the quality of the coffee and ordering system can use significant work. I don't think the onus should be on the customer to figure out how to order online, especially for older people who may not be well-acquainted with the digital world. It took myself (a 20-something who studies CS at Cornell) and my middle-aged mother 15 minutes to finally figure out how to use the online site to order. If we had another ordering option, we certainly would have taken it. The employees seem cold and not very well-managed or taken care of. When I ordered a coffee, it was neither hot nor flavorful. It tasted like a tablespoon of actual coffee with the rest being lukewarm water. When I asked the barista about it, I was told that the coffee pot is not insulated or kept warm, which is why it often comes out cool. This is a trivial excuse for a place that is considered a coffee shop. She offered to heat it up for me, but a fresh cup altogether would have been preferable. My meal was good: I ordered the salmon harvest bowl. But the experience was marred by the depressed aura of the workers and lack of care about the product they serve consumers. I've worked as a barista in a very similar cafe/eatery before and know that this is what poor management and lack of care does. I think a better system of training employees in what a quality product is and an overall emphasis on care for the food and drinks would be super helpful for this business to continue thriving. I usually never right a restaurant review without actually eating there. I had food delivered from Bite. Pictures of the interior look pretty cool & urban. it's in a strip mall that is easy to get to from many directions, although parking is a little light with all the other businesses there. So my review is based on the menu and the food. Bite serves breakfast and a lunch\dinner menu. The only item I did not like was the fish tacos. I prefer grilled fish, but fried is OK too. I like the fact Bite really lets you customize your sandwiches, especially with a large variety of breads. The fish tacos can be on the normal taco shell or on lettuce leaves. One of the tacos was very fishy, but the fried coating on all of them was just too thick & tough. The whole thing was thrown together and if I were them, I'd just drop the item off the menu. (When will restaurants realize when you are trying to sell a somewhat healthy item like this you need to use fresh, light oil. The onion rings had a better batter. ( the fries were very good too) We tried 3 sandwiches. MAC AND CHEESE BURGER-----TRULY ONE OF THE BEST BURGERS EVER! steakhouse blend burger, fried mac & cheese bun, cheese, sriracha aioli....I felt so guilty eating this decadent creation! But every mouthful was so juicy and with the crunch of the fried mac & cheese "bun"??! Are they crazy!? Amazing creation. a little messy to eat as the bun starts to break apart, but who cares!? Overall *** If you are at Hackensack Medical Center there aren't a lot of food options in the area so if you come here make sure to bring $$$. My weighted grading system comes in at 3.42 Stars so just missing out on the 4 Star level. I found the food good but the price level is way too high to justify a return trip for me anytime soon. Setting **** Inside it is clean and modern with exposed ductwork, a long tufted banquet along one wall and Edison bulb lighting. You walk in and order fast food style, they hand you a table stand with a number and bring your order out to you. I personally don't like the counter design. Instead of having the overhead menu behind the cashier it's off to the left which forces you to turn unnaturally away while ordering. The overly large coffee area also juts out into the dining area because of what I perceive as this counter area design flaw. Bite is located in a strip mall with a barely adequate and frustrating parking lot, if you are coming I would suggest carpooling but it is easily walkable from the hospital. Service *** Not a lot of interaction but pleasant enough. You need to get everything yourself as far as napkins and utensils, etc. I did not find it clear on what to do with my plate when finished, there was a garbage but nowhere to put my plate. Maybe I was supposed to leave it on the table but I just put it on the coffee counter. Food **** I tried the Chicken Torta mainly for the pickled jalapeños although the cashier thought the warmed avocado didn't really work and I sort of agree. The sandwich tasted very good overall but the bread was twice the size of the chicken breast. I added the house made chips which were warm, crunchy and abundant. Value ** $12 for the sandwich plus $2 for the chips, add in a drink and that's a $17 lunch, ouch!!! That is a lot of money for the smallish sandwich and not a lot of "service" but on the upside at least I didn't have to add a tip. read more
