For context: I went on a Friday morning at 10am I've been to Turning Point before but never to this Paramus location. There was plenty of parking in the lot and when I went to their website to "Get in line" it said there was no wait for a party of my size (2). I was pleasantly surprised to see that was truly the case and we were seated right away. The restaurant had a cool vibe and was spotless. Our waitress could not have been nicer and our drink and food orders were taken right away. My iced coffee took a little longer than my mom's hot coffee to come out and she kept me updated with its progress which was appreciated. I ordered two lemon blueberry pancakes which came with warm syrup. They were delicious and for such an elevated breakfast it was a relief to see they were only $8.50. I was honestly surprised that at 2pm on a Sunday there was still a wait for just two people--but that usually says something about a place's popularity. It's a fairly large casual restaurant, reminds me of a large eat-in kitchen at someone's home. I got the cold brew and my wife got a French press for coffee. Both were pretty good, i like the large serving sizes and the giant iced coffee cube that came with the cold brew. For my entree I got shakshuka and my wife got a breakfast platter with a belgian waffle. Shakshuka was decent, definitely have had better though. The breakfast platter was very average. We tried a new restaurant this morning called Turning Point in Paramus, and although the menu looked good online, I wasn't sure what to expect. From the moment we walked in, it completely exceeded our expectations. The space was nice, clean, cozy, and warm. We were immediately seated in a booth in the middle of the restaurant, and our server, Bobby, couldn't have been more friendly. He was a fantastic young man with great recommendations--especially the French press coffee. I had the Jamaican French press, which was absolutely delightful. My partner ordered a caramel salted mocha iced latte, and she said it was delicious. For breakfast, she had the Rising Shine with poached eggs, Belgian waffles, and potatoes de cooked to perfection. We decided to try TPOP Saturday late lunch, around 1:30pm. Even at this odd time, they were somewhat full, we had to wait about 20 minutes to get a table. In the process we learned that the bar tables are available for anyone including kids. Next time we will just sit there to skip waiting, if seats are available. We had a chance to take advantage of a slow morning to get a seat and try a few options. First off the staff and the service was absolutely excellent - it's basically the reason why there's even two stars here, because they are friendly, attentive and made the experience lovely. The other positive is that their coffee press options are great and the Hawaiian brew is absolutely solid. Their freshly baked cinnamon rolls were also decent. But the quality of the other food was a major disappointment. The huevos rancheros were really not a hit with the table and was surprisingly average/bland. The smores French toast was insanely sweet and actually made my children feel not so great after eating it. It was just overwhelming for some reason in terms of the sugar or heaviness aspect. The chicken and waffles with sriracha aioli was pretty terrible. The chicken quality was surprisingly poor (very overly crunchy/doughy crust with chicken that really was quite bland) and very little actual aioli was used. The entire dish just didn't taste great and felt very low quality, though the waffle itself was fine. Very unfortunate as everyone was shocked at how disappointing the food was. Honestly if I ever come back here again it would be only for the coffee and nothing more based on this experience. The service again was top notch and the place was very clean. Our beverages were: Latte - 170 calories and a Vanilla Coconut Cold Brew (Coconut cold brew topped with vanilla coconut cold foam, garnished with toasted coconut chips - 280 calories). The cold brew was AMAZING and highly recommended. The entrees were: The Basic Skillet (Potatoes, cheddar jack cheese, two sunny side up eggs, with English muffins - 650 calories) and the G.O.A.T. Omelet (Spinach, caramelized onions, chopped bacon, roasted red peppers, and goat cheese - 470 calories). I stopped by Turning Point for breakfast around 10AM on a Thursday. The place was surprisingly busy but there's plenty of seating so my friend and I were seated immediately. To start I ordered a strawberry horchata. It was good, but I don't think I'd order it over a regular horchata (which they unfortunately do not offer). I ordered the Wilbur Skillet and my friend got the Avocado Smash Benedict. We also got a side of cheddar grits to share. The food came out fairly quickly and everything tasted pretty good. The Wilbur Skillet was basically like an omelet but instead of the fillings being cooked into the eggs, the eggs were cooked sunny side up and placed on top. It came with an English muffin on the side so I made myself a little sandwich. All the ingredients went well together and I usually feel like bacon is an overrated breakfast meat but it fit right into this skillet. It added a satisfying crunch to the creaminess of the avocado. The starchy potatoes held everything together and of course everything is better with pepper jack cheese. I've recently become a fan of grits, and Turning Point's cheddar grits were solid. My only gripe with it was that an order was almost $5 and it wasn't too big. That seems a bit much to me for a small side. The strawberry cheesecake french toast was really good. The french toast was nice and fluffy and the cheesecake frosting really did remind me of cheesecake. It was nicely dusted with crushed graham crackers too. The strawberry sauce on the side was nice and warm too and it just made for a really pleasant eating experience. By the end of the meal I was stuffed. First time dining at this location. Came with two others for brunch. It was a Monday so we barely waited 5 mins before being sat, no reservation. I ordered the CrossFit omelet which came with a side of mixed greens. Their menu is extensive and I was happy to see healthier options on the menu. Dieting is hard to begin with but it makes it so much easier when restaurants consider these kinds of customers and have many options. The last time I ate at a turning point was in Hoboken about 8 years ago. We decided to check out this location for breakfast since we were in the area. The chicken and waffle was average at best, something that can easily be replicated at home but will taste better. The wife enjoyed the shashuka and my son ate his pancakes even though the pancakes were just okay as well. The service was pretty good and attentive and the restaurant was very clean. read more
