OMG -- the Flounder Piccata isn't just good... it is absolutely delicious. Perfectly prepared, light yet rich, with capers and fresh lemon folded into a buttery sauce that melts together beautifully. Every bite felt intentional and elevated. And then -- the meat and potatoes. Another standout. The short rib was incredibly tender, and the potato cake was moist, rich, and full of flavor. True comfort food, done exceptionally well. I also highly recommend: * The deviled eggs * The fries cooked in beef fat (a must!) The steak tartare is excellent as well -- and my one and only recommendation: add the quail egg on top. I Miss that rich, luscious yolk mixed into the beef and spread over a crisp baguette ! Let's talk about the bar -- the bartender made one of the best martinis I've ever had. What truly sets Bitterroot apart is the combination of incredible food and a gracious, brilliant chef. You can feel the care, the creativity, and the commitment to quality in every dish. If you love farm-to-fork dining, this is the place to be. Easily one of the best restaurants in the area. Absolutely loved it -- will be back.

We came in for happy hour on a Monday afternoon around 5 PM. We were promptly seated outside and noticed there were no other guests in the restaurant. We wondered if the food might reflect this but we were pleasantly surprised to find the opposite as the staff was more than ready to take good care of us. Drinks were phenomenal, food was terrific and Service was the best part! We received great recommendations from our server who delivered our food quickly. Happy hour was great as cocktails were $10 and wine was $6. Appetizers were 30% off and we tried a variety of items. Some of our favorite choices were the beet salad and shrimp primavera which was super fresh and had lots of asparagus and peas along with fresh pasta. Yum! I could literally eat the shrimp primavera every single day! So delicious. The chefs here absolutely know what they are doing. I highly recommend this restaurant

I had a fantastic dinner at Bitterroot! I sat bar side with Krystale and she was fabulous. The selection of cocktails were fantastic. They have a very large selection of liquors and wines. The food.. Oh my. This is food you could put up against some of the best cuisine out there. I had the Flounder Picatta which may sound different but trust it is worth the exploration! So light and airy but perfectly fried to have a little crunch without drying out the fish. I had their Banana Pudding to finish it off and it was delectable. It was a bit sweeter than I'm used to with the accompaniment of a caramel sauce but the presentation was fantastic. The one recommendation I'd have on the Banana Pudding is to pour your own sauce :) Not a negative but because I paid with card there was a 3.5% charge. Just a heads up if you're planning to come in, it might be worth getting some cash handy!

Food was so incredible the first time and server was eh. Despite the service being not what we expected for the food and ambiance. I was a server year ago and my standard is high, but even for my husband she could been a sub-par server at shoneys at best. But given the food choices in Destin of this caliber, I thought I'd try it again. So glad I did. Mason waited on us and he was absolutely incredible! I never had to ask for a thing, my dishes were taken away as soon as we were done eating, my water glass wand never empty and I'm not typically picky, but I really didn't like my drink from the bar, so what did Mason do? No questions asked, he brought me another kind. I think he should be the trainer of all the other servers, maybe even the manager, because he was five star just like the food! Will definitely be back every time we come to Destin!

If you're lucky, you'll have the absolute pleasure of being taken care of by Kennedy. Her deep knowledge of the menu, spot-on recommendations for preparation, and genuinely enjoyable conversation made our experience at Bitterroot exceptional from start to finish. This is easily one of the best farm-to-table restaurants we've experienced. The food wasn't just excellent, it was memorable. With a Michelin-trained chef at the helm, the dishes feature unique, thoughtful pairings that truly make the flavors come alive. We honestly wish we could give this place 10 stars. It's a true local gem, not a touristy spot with cookie-cutter food, and those are exactly the kinds of places we seek out when we travel. We're so glad we found it and couldn't recommend Bitterroot more highly as the place to eat in Destin.

Bitterroot delivers a local, upscale experience without upscale prices. I tried Bitterroot for the first time on my most recent trip to Destin with my family. It was one of our favorite meals of the trip. Certainly my #1. Every food item delivered. The picanha was delicious, though some pieces were chewy. The burger was tender and full of umami. The drinks were all great. My favorite cocktail was the Billionaire. Their old fashioned is one of the best I've tried (plus they're only $5 all day Monday!!). Service was great throughout the night. My family agreed we will be coming back here next time we're in town.

This is the first time we tried this restaurant and really enjoyed dinner there. We made reservations for Sunday evening and service was great. The place looks very nice from the inside. I liked the ambiance. We ordered their Old fashioned with rye and their garlic hummus. The hummus was tasty and it comes with naan pieces. We also ordered their chicken parm but I made some changes. Instead of pasta, I got fresh vegetables. We also got their pepper filet mignon that comes with fresh beans and mashed potatoes but we replaced the mash potatoes with extra fresh beans. The food was delicious. See photos below. I loved their Banana bread cheesecake, which comes with pecans and caramel drizzled. Overall I liked this place and our total was $200 including tip. You won't be disappointed if you came for lunch or dinner. Don't worry about having to be all dressed up, as this restaurant is very casual. It looks nice inside, but the owner, Staci says, "come as you are; casual attire is fine." Met the owner today, Stacey. Most dinners on the menu are around $40 and kids meals are $15, and I would say this is a fair price. I got the stuffed flounder and my wife got the salmon and we were impressed. I would say they did take advantage of us with pricing on two things we ordered. I ordered a side of plain mac and cheese and was charged $15 for it. And my daughter got a glass of milk and was charged $5 for that drink. That price seemed tacky and out of touch. Overall would still recommend this restaurant.

The whole place is open air, so you won't be escaping that panhandle humidity. The place is also super popular! So come early or be prepared to wait. The tables also tend to be very close. I can't say it's the most relaxing dining experience. But the food is good. I've always gotten the coconut shrimp and the servings are huge! The hush puppies are also so good. The slaw wasn't my favorite though. I also got a yummy virgin banana daiquiri. They also have lots of fun tropical adult beverages and they have a bar out front so if you do have to wait for a table, you do not have to wait for a drink! Our server took care of our party of 8-4 kids and 4 adults--masterfully, never getting flustered by my screaming toddler or our many and varied requests. Great job to him. Also the kids meals are served on a frisbee you can take home--a fun little souvenir. Like I said, this place is a classic and a must go at least once while in the area. The chicken was so dry and hard that it tasted like it had been pre-cooked and rewarmed in the oven entirely too long. I was terribly disappointed and had to send it back. BE WARNED- this is the part that really BLEW me. Their payment machine doesn't calculate tips properly. My tab came up to $70. I tipped $15... it said that equated to 15% (which is actually over 20% of $70). The total should've been $85, but it then rang up as $89! That is super shady!!!! If you don't check your tabs, don't know how to calculate percentages properly, or even if you're like me and don't want to complain about a $4 difference, they are essentially getting over on you! How many people does this happen to? Imagine if every customer was overcharged an average of $5?!?!?! But... let me back up to the appetizer. We got crab claws. Those were delicious ~ the butter/cheese sauce they came in was rich and robust. This aroused my excitement for the remaining dishes; however, I was terribly disappointed. My mother got the halloumi salad. It lacked flavor. My green beans, which accompanied the chicken, were barely cooked. Although seasoned well, they were hard to enjoy because the ends were still on, so I was left pulling strings of rough edges out of my mouth each time I finished eating one. Maybe the chef was having an off day? I don't know...
