The croissant with salmon was so fresh from the veggies to the salmon. Both top quality! The cappuccino was hot and perfectly made with a hint of cocoa and cinnamon on top. Definitely recommended. Surprise to see a crêperie on Islamorada as we were going down to Key West early in a Sunday morning. The place was certainly worth the u-turn. Being French from Brittany I can be more critical of crepes and galettes than the average customer and I can confirm that Michel is the real thing. His savory crepes were excellent and his croissants are probably the best south of the 25th parallel. The coffee is huge and delicious. The service was awful. Genuinely ruined my experience. The food wasn't even that good, and certainly was not worth what it cost. The quiche tasted like leftovers left in the fridge too long, and my croissant was warm on the outside and frozen in the middle. This feels like one of those places where they pay for good reviews. The food was excellent. It came out hot and fresh and was exactly what we expected. I have no complaints whatsoever about the food. The "service" was another issue though. When we arrived, the waitress brought us menus and a pitcher of water. She came back to take our order and we never saw her again. Someone else brought our food, which is fine. She never came to check on drinks, additional orders, etc. When we went to pay at the counter (no bill was dropped off) we were rudely told they could not split the bill because they were "too busy". We were the ONLY table in the place. If you aren't going to split the bill, at least be nice about it or just make it your standard policy that is well known. When we looked at the bill, we realized why the service is sub-par - they add the auto-tip no matter how big or small your party is. In my opinion, that means there is no incentive to provide good or even polite service because you are making your money no matter what. I would go back for the food, but I would be better prepared for the lack of hospitality and service. read more

My friend decided to bring me here, based on positive past experiences. The place is well-located on the Overseas Highway, has plenty of parking, and a clean, cute, cozy feel to it. Michel, the owner and chef (who really IS French, by the way), immediately greeted us and continued attentively with his creations. The display case is full of everything you can imagine, like croissants and different pastries, and everything looks fresh. Kudos for the 80s flashback tunes, like The Smiths, OMD, and other bands I enjoy. I was actually able to take my time relaxing and eating, without feeling I had to escape the grating sounds of today's autotuned top 40 hits through the speakers. My friend and I sat and looked at the menu, and immediately, the waitress came over to take our order. I was unprepared and she was very laid back and patient throughout, but in the meantime, I ordered a chai tea with milk. It arrived in a large mug, all full of foamy goodness. It was delicious! I must say, this is the first time I have been served a foamy chai tea, though to be fair, the second order of chai tea came without the thick foam, sadly. In the meantime, I decided I wanted a crepe, as did my friend. I settled for the Crepe Miami, which seemed loaded with many ingredients, and sounded relatively healthy. Considering all the tasty options, including sweet crepes, it was incredibly hard to make a choice, but I wanted to make a consciously healthier choice, rather than succumbing to a sugary option. The Crepe Miami contained spinach, turkey breast, tomato, and pesto. Seems healthy enough, though I was very hungry. I almost went with the Crepe Lorraine, as this is more traditional, but I wanted the veggies that the Crepe Miami had. I was skeptical that the crepe would be filling, but surprisingly, it was. Because of the fresh tomatoes, it was juicy, despite the top layer being browned. It was also fluffy and had a slight crunch to it. The turkey was fresh, and you can tell if you pay enough attention, when deli meats are old and not fresh by the subtle aftertaste. There were lots of families eating here, and everyone was very relaxed and happy. Michel kept working non-stop, satisfying all his costumers, while the young waitress constantly checked up on us. Excellent, friendly service, delicious, large, tasty crepes. Definitely a place worth keeping in mind for breakfast or brunch, if you're in the area. We were excited to visit a place with so many crepe options and it did not disappoint. The crepes were huge, made quickly by Chef Michel, and the flavor was fantastic. The Lorraine was a delicious savory option with egg. The banania was a good balance of sweet with Nutella and banana. Rode my bike over to this little gem. Chef Michel was very welcoming. The restaurant is clean and cute. He offered a variety of hot and cold beverages and made some food suggestions. You can either order at the counter or sit down for table service. I enjoyed a crust-less spinach quiche served with a side salad. It was light and fresh and yummy. We have lived, visited and vacationed in the Florida Keys since 1981.we've seen it all over the years.....from Key Largo to Key West. There are a ton of places to eat and we try to stay away from corporate owned places and stick to the local joints. While on a recent visit to my parents condo in Islamorada,I needed to get some work done and for a few days I went to Starbucks. Big mistake (coffee sucks and pastries are crap AND overpriced). But today it all changed for the better as I now have a new place to call home. I drove by Bitton Cafe one day and popped my head in and asked the owner if they had Wifi. Not thinking much of it, I continued to Starbucks.....for the last time. Bitton Cafe is a locally owned, friendly French Bistro Cafe with great food. Today I had the special Ham Quiche with a salad and croissant. It was amazing. And great frickin' coffee too! I'm a professional eater and traveler. I know great and I know what to avoid. I'll avoid the Starbucks and be returning every time I'm in the Keys to Bitton. I'm sorry it took so long to find it, but it was worth the mileage it took to get here. Very impressive. They serve no traditional american sodas, so i was properly prepared for a culinary adventure! My beef with barley soup was served very hot and overloaded with rich beef flavor! I was a bit disappointed the entrees came out almost right after the starters, not allowing me to really savor the soup before cutting into the crepe. The crepe Lorraine I ordered was 1/2 inch thick folded on the plate and extended over both corners! The greuyer cheese, ham, and egg were nicely distributed within the cocoon of the soft, spongy crepe. The egg was slightly unfinished, but the crepe quickly absorbed it! The staff (of one plus the French owner) was attentive and knowledgeable. The atmosphere however was a bit of a mix. The purple accented white slat walls and plastic chairs lend more to a TCBY than a French bistro, but the chalkboards calling out menu favorites are very nice and the display cases of baked treasures are mouth-watering! The Gelato display case that greets you when you walk in is an interesting, unexpected, and welcome additon. read more

Craving a large cup of steaming coffee, we stopped by on our way to Key West, and were welcomed by an appetizing display of croissants, pains au chocolat and other sweet and flaky wonders of the French pastry repertoire. Paris in the Keys? Not so fast. There's more than one way to skin a cat (and I don't want to know anything about that, thankyouverymuch); the owner, originally from Casablanca, Morocco, left his restaurant in snowy Montreal to open this cutesy little spot in Islamorada. Nice move, fellah. The café au lait was wonderful, the pastries, just sweet enough and the crepes sounded pretty tasty to my famished, fasting stomach.... Oooh yes! Bitton is a wonderful little bistro with coffee, pastries, scrumptious breads & house made gelato. We had breakfast at Bitton while vacationing in Islamorada. They made a perfect cappuccino - soft foamy cup with a deeply flavorful pour of espresso in it. I tried their croissants and a macaron, a good test of how French a French chef really is. They both passed with 5-star quality! (If you read some of my reviews, you'll notice I have a thing for macarons, including sweating it out trying to make them). My husband had a breakfast sandwich which was well crafted, with fresh and flavorful ingredients. I had a crepe, which was also perfectly made. Neither of us had room for gelato, but we wouldn't expect anything short of deliciousness if we happen to go back there. read more

Not your typical Keys eatery, as many are all seafood and nautical decor. Not here. It's modern, in a very casual way. Tile floors, lime green accents, local art, white and bright. And the food? Get your French on! Fresh baguettes, croissants, pastries, made-from-scratch soups (the carrot ginger is my favorite), huge, thin crepes, sandwiches...and SO much more. Owner and chef Michel is ooh la la fabulous in the kitchen and as a host. He will make you happy with his food and his hospitality. Save room for his gelato. Unfriendly and unknowledgable server. She couldn't answer our question about how the cappuccinos are made and what the wifi code was. Very odd. Then our crepes came out overcooked. I've been to France multiple times and this was probably the least impressive crepe I've ever had! The chocolate twist pastry was delicious.. The icing on the cake was the manager calling us out on how much we tipped this server. Which I find completely inappropriate! It's our right to tip according to service. I was lucky to find out about this place! I came for breakfast and tried the Banania crepe - bananas and Nutella inside, drizzled with chocolate sauce. It was delicious, and I think there was the equivalent of a whole banana in there. The only drawback was the crepe was not actually hot - it was barely warm - so I wonder if it was not freshly prepared. It did come quickly, too - and this does seem to be a one-man show as far as food prep goes, so perhaps some corners are cut in this way. I'd be happy to wait for fresh food, but I suppose practicality won in this case. The hot chocolate does not come from a packet, it's made with real ground chocolate, and with thick homemade whipped cream on top, it was a wonderful treat and reminded me of the same in France. The one true downside for me was that although they have a "Croque Matin" on the menu (which was described as having the same ingredients as a Croque Monsieur", and they DO serve eggs in some of their savory crepes, they would not make a Croque Madame when I asked. It may that they ONLY scramble their eggs, but it is such a small request, I was surprised to be told no. Again, perhaps another way to preserve the chef's time. My small disappointment aside, I recommend this bakery/bistro nonetheless because the food was wonderful and everything is homemade. Just don't ask for anything not on the menu. ;) read more

Food is bar to none, really amazing food and good pastries, but the man's a scam artist. Got there and was told to grab our own menus and find a table, had to wait 15 minutes for him to even come over and get us drinks. We ordered our food, and when he served our food he puts two sandwiches down in front of me, even though I ordered a sandwich, and a crepe. I go up the the counter to confront him about it and I say that i wanted a classic crepe not whatever this other sandwich was, he told me that I said a "rustic" which is a sandwich here. I'm pretty sure I didn't mix up "clasique crepe" with "rustic". Anyway he continues to tell me that I said rustic and what not and I was like okay well I don't want this sandwich I didn't order this and he says there is nothing he can do, he says he can pack it to go and then make me the crepe I originally wanted. We finish eating and go up to the counter and we go to leave him about a 10% cash tip because the food was still good, the man says tip is already included, he automatically put down 20% for himself. Complete and utter tip gouging. $90 breakfast for two people, utterly ridiculous. I saw another review saying that this place is like the soup nazi from seinfeld, couldn't be more right lol. read more

Food was good but they overcharge you by adding 20% tip without you knowing. That's not how it works. You should give the receipt and then customer decides whether they want to tip you or not. Tips is optional, not mandatory. Not paying your employees enough is not an excuse for doing shady stuff like that, in most countries there's no tip system at all. Also I'd like to have my final price matching the one that is on your menu, not extra 2$ for adding cream on top because I assumed it comes with it already, but when you offer something you have to tell there's extra charge for it.
