Stopped here as I was driving up to Miami. I ordered the Mango Tango smoothie and added plant based protein powder to my drink. The employee working was kind and got started on my order right away. As it was being made I checked out their organic market. They had a large selection of healthy snacks and ingredients. I will certainly be coming back to buy some snacks that are hard to find elsewhere in the keys. My smoothie was good, definitely tasted fresh. I will be back soon! read more

A vegan place in marathon? Yes please. The place is cute inside with some tables and a few couches. There are a random collection of books and some healthy food for sale. And the menu has some great choice. We enjoyed a panini a breakfast bowl and avocado on a bagel. All were a good portion and really tasty. And it wasn't outrageously pricey. We were searching for a breakfast spot that had gluten free options for my sister. First place said they couldn't do an omelette in a separate pan so we left. Found Food for Thought through a gluten free app and had a delicious and healthy breakfast. My sister had a gf breakfast sandwich, my nephew had the breakfast bowl and my niece and I split their breakfast burrito! Good thing we did because it was huge. We were on vacation and had a car for two days. Both days we came here for lunch, wanting something fresh/not fried/etc. I had the açaí bowl one day and a dragonfruit bowl the next. My wife had a tuna melt special one day and chicken quinoa bowl the next. All of it was good. It takes a little time so don't be in a hurry. They have a market with good assortment of healthy foods and also local fresh produce. read more

I cannot give this place enough of a good review. The food was amazing quick the service was great. It was clean. I just wanted a healthy lunch so I ordered from my husband. Food for Thought was a rare vegan / vegetarian place that we stumbled while driving through the Keys. First a word about the service: the people who work here are the kindest. The place itself was clean and has a distinct, good smell. The food thought wasn't what we expected. We ordered the falafel burgers where the patty is the falafel. The falafel didn't taste like falafel and it had no flavour. The soup of the day also didn't have anything good going for it. The one good thing was the Latte where the coffee was nice and strong! read more

Delightful little market and cafe. I bought a couple snacks for the boat day that i couldn't find regularly around the keys. Some delicious plums,organic meat sticks, fruit sticks and some nuts. I also had a smoothie with peanut butter, dates, bananas and coffee that was delicious. The staff was incredible sweet and very attentive. Overall will definitely be coming back for snacks whenever i am in the keys along for a good smoothie, nice ambiance, and toast or wrap :) read more

Good food if you're looking for some vegetarian options but definitely not an all vegetarian or vegan restaurant which was a little disappointing. As they do serve some meat and chicken product options in addition to the Vegan items. so therefore this is not a all vegan restaurant like it used to be. You will have to trust whether or not they use the same grill or a different Grill to cook in the meat and chicken products on. read more

This was an amazing find during our time in Marathon. It's hard to find vegetarian healthy meals even in some larger cities but to have this cafe and store in a most unexpected way really made my day. Everyone here is super friendly, they were flexible with small adjustments, and the pad thai was a wonderful gluten-free vegetarian lunch option! Visited here on a drive through Marathon Key. The restaurant was accessible and just off the main road, although it was a bit hard to find as the sign's blocked behind a tree. Bathroom was clean, which was welcome after a long drive over the seven mile bridge. Staff was nice and the ambiance was good... clean, brightly lit, and there were a lot of foodstuffs on shelves to search through while waiting for the order. Got a beyond burger and it arrived rather soon, but unfortunately it tasted bland and undercooked. The patty was cold and mushy, and the texture was off. It looked like they were cooking all the food on a panini press or something, so maybe that's why...? The meal was rather overpriced as well; $100 for a few burgers, some nachos, and drinks. Side salads were okay, though, as well as the smoothies. Overall a bit disappointed considering some of the other reviews. read more

Food for thought is a great little shop and cafe for any health conscious visitors or residents. They have a good menu with smoothies, juices, breakfast, lunch, coffees and teas. They also have a large array of books, healthy snacks, supplements, and essential oils. I could've sat at their tables all day drinking my smoothie and reading through their collection of books on spirituality and health. I had the Thai noodles, which the "noodles" are zucchini noodles, and came with other variety of veggies like fresh sprouts, carrots, apples, onion, spinach and celery. Such an awesome place! We stopped here on a road trip & were pleasantly pleased. We were so warmly welcomed and immediately felt like this was a great place to spend a little time on our drive from The Keys. They have a great selection of healthy groceries and delicious eats & groceries. We noshed on an açaí bowl, egg & cheese (they also have vegan options) bagel, and a fresh baked vegan muffin. Everything was delicious! And -- added bonus -- they have a small ball pit and legos for kids. Plus an ultra-clean bathroom. Highly recommended for parents traveling with littles who are looking for healthy eats & a place for the kids to stretch their legs. (No changing table though for diaper changes.) Great little gem. Combo small cafe serving really healthy stuff focused on veggie and vegan food; wraps, smoothies, Avocado toast, soups, etc. Today I had the roasted veggie wrap, probably the best I've ever had. Freshly made, really good and flavorful. The store the cafe is in also carries a really good selection of health supplements like plant based protein powders, frozen smoothie mixed, small selection of fresh vegetables, organic sourced honey, and supplements. There is also a small selection of cards, books, magazines, and fair trade, organic coffee. A really well thought out, beautiful stop during your Keys vacation. My husband and I came across this amazing place while staying in Marathon. We are both vegan and it can be hard at times to find places that have options for us. This place was so satisfying. I had the everything bagel and I added vegan bacon. They were not stingy with the avocado, which was great! My husband had the chili wrap, which he enjoyed. What a fantastic little gem! An entire menu fit for vegans and vegetarians and open-minded carnivores! The staff was so friendly and the service was quick. Everything was fresh and delicious! Food For Thought began as a book store and health food store back in the 80's. Since then it has undergone many changes, such as expanding the store and adding a café and juice bar, but the core mission has never changed. New owners Maya & John aim to carry on the legacy Ellin, and Blair left. They only accept cash, we needed to use their ATM to get cash - and the ATM fee was higher than if they just accepted cards and charged us the transaction fee on a credit card payment. Overall - decent food, terrible service, nothing that would encourage me to stop again though.

It was almost like a poached egg. You get your choice of two toppings from several options. The bread comes toasted. It wasn't bad but I didn't think it was anything overly special. The hasbrown was almost baked like a casserole and it was a great accompaniment for the eggs. My friend ordered their mango pancakes and she loved it. My husband also ordered a breakfast with a bit of everything and it had a pancake too. He said it was his favorite thing. It also looks like it was baked in a tin and the turned out. It's super thick and very cake like looking. They both said it was light and delicious. Everyone that got the bacon including myself enjoyed it. When I was trying to pick between the sausage or bacon option the gal taking my order said both were good but that they cut their own bacon so I had to try it. It definitely wasn't your typical breakfast bacon! Everyone enjoyed their food and some of us even had some leftovers to bring home for the next day. The beauty of that was the food is served in a to go container so taking it home was effortless. We would definitely come back. It paired perfectly with breakfast and kept me coming back for more. What really sets LJ's Café apart, though, is the atmosphere. This is a true mom-and-pop establishment where family and friends work together. From the moment you walk into the small storefront, you're welcomed like family.
