In a place where people are recovering and sometimes in serious condition, timely care should be a top priority. My grandmother spent the last several months of her life there, and she was given such compassionate, dignified, and loving care. She formed meaningful connections with the nurses, enjoyed participating in activities, and always looked forward to her meals. My grandmother, who meant the world to me, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the age of 93. When she was first diagnosed, she needed a level of care that I was unfortunately unable to provide because of difficult family circumstances. On the day she arrived at Pacific Care, I was overwhelmed with anxiety, fear, and stress. I remember snapping at the very first nurse I met. Instead of making me feel like I had made the wrong decision, that nurse met me with understanding and compassion. She recognized my emotions, listened to my concerns, and immediately reassured me that my grandmother would be well cared for. Throughout my grandmother's stay, every one of those promises was fulfilled. I want to commend each and every nurse and staff member at Pacific Care, especially those who cared for my grandmother every day. Their communication was always consistent, they treated everyone with empathy and respect, and they brought genuine joy not only to my grandmother but to the other residents as well. It was clear that they cared deeply about the people they looked after. They took the time to learn who my grandmother was beyond her diagnosis. Every day they made sure she had the newspaper so she could work on her Sudoku puzzles, catch up on current events, and look through recipes that she loved talking about. They would bring her tea, chat with her throughout the day, and even share some of their own family recipes with her. Every time I visited, the staff would smile and tell me how much they loved my grandmother. They would laugh as they told me she loved filling them in on all the latest gossip and stories while they worked. Those conversations became such an important part of her day, and it meant so much to know she wasn't just being cared for, she was genuinely known and loved. My grandmother took great pride in being one of the oldest residents at the facility while taking the least amount of medication. She loved sharing that fact with anyone who would listen, and the staff celebrated those little victories right alongside her. They made her feel valued, respected, and incredibly special. I was fortunate enough to spend holidays with my grandmother at the facility, and Valentine's Day will always hold a special place in my heart. Watching her enjoy a delicious meal while listening to live music was unforgettable. She sang along to every song and happily swayed back and forth in her wheelchair, dancing with the biggest smile on her face. It is a memory I will cherish forever. I will miss my grandmother's phone calls telling me she had won at bingo. I will miss hearing her excitedly tell me what she had eaten for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I will miss hearing the staff call out, "Carmen, where are you going?" as she happily wheeled herself up and down the hallways. And my favorite response was always, "I'm going to take your grandmother home with me, we love her." Those little moments perfectly captured the love, humor, and warmth that surrounded her every day. My grandmother was truly loved and treated with kindness during her time at Pacific Care. The care, encouragement, and attention she received gave her the strength to keep fighting her cancer and every other illness that came her way. In my heart, I truly believe that without the incredible team at Pacific Care, her life would have been much shorter. More importantly, I don't believe she would have experienced the same peace, comfort, and dignity that she found there. The day I came to collect my grandmother's belongings was one of the hardest days of my life. Even then, the staff handled everything with such care and compassion and they neatly packed everything up for us. They welcomed me inside, allowed me to thank them, and reminded me that I was family. Knowing that I am expecting my first child, they encouraged me to take care of myself and my baby. Even in the midst of my grief, they continued to show me the same kindness they had shown my grandmother. To the entire Pacific Care team, thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving my grandmother a beautiful final chapter filled with love, laughter, dignity, and genuine compassion. Everyone I came in contact with was friendly, professional, and above all, caring. Shout out to CNA's, Olga, Jose, Carlos and Crystal. The Physical and Occupational Therapists were upbeat and full of motivation and praise. Shout out to Shelly, Celena, Mandy and Alex. Also Kim and Kat (PT Manager and Asst. Manager). Courtyard is very clean! All rooms were swept daily and deep cleaned regularly. In the rehab room, all equipment is wiped down with disinfected after each use. Food was what you would expect... (No Michelin Stars) but, the staff made sure you were satisfied and good about offering alternatives. There were a few mix-ups with medications when I first arrived, but those were straightened out immediately. All in all, very happy with our choice.

Since my house was in Bixby Knolls, one of my daughters found Bixby Towers and walked in and signed me up for an assisted living room. I had no idea what it would be like, other than visiting my sister in the Bay Area in a senior living facility. The last time I was in communal living was 65 years ago in the Air Force. From the moment I walked into my room, I felt that this was a place for which I was destined. The staff here, from the bottom to the top, are both friendly and caring. We all kid around, but most of them do their jobs with a smile. It can be very stressful for them but they don't pass that on to the residents. I have made many friends here and the activities directors do a great job as well. I am happy to be in a place like the Towers.

The lobby is lovely, the staff is kind, the price is reasonable, the residents are wonderful and the location is great. You may see lots of comments here about the HVAC situation. My mom had partial AC and heat for about a year. there are two hvac units in the apartment, one never worked, no one responded to requests for repair but the single unit worked fine until about 2 months ago. It wasn't a big deal until August. Her room was tolerable (around 78-80 degrees), until this recent heat wave when it was 83+ for a few days in a row (telling her to "get a fan" was not helpful, she has multiple). We asked multiple times to have window cranks fixed but no one responded so she couldn't even open all the windows at night. I know this is an older building, which is part of the charm, but the management seems excessively evasive when asked if and when anything will be fixed. I think if they were more forthcoming about what was being done folks wouldn't feel like they are hiding something. This goes for all issues like the recent loss of hot water over the weekend. Setting expectations makes life better for all! She loves her apartment and the community but I fear she may have to move if these things don't get resolved.

Mom stayed 10 and 1/2 weeks here from late July to early October of last year after she broke her…read morehip. My heartfelt thanks goes out to her regular nurses, Blanca and Yesenia. They became her friends and cared for her in thoughtful and thorough ways, so much so that Mom, who is generally anxiety ridden about being in any medical facility, was feeling reasonably comfortable during her entire stay there. I have to say, though, the best thing about Marlora was its rehab staff, in particular Alex and Lauren who worked with her the most. Mom was often in the throes of depression and despair; I really believe the only reason she came through was the warmth and encouragement of Alex and Lauren. There was one moment in particular that stands out. Early on in her stay, she was scheduled to be transported back out to Los Alamitos Medical Center to see her surgeon. The rehab crew needed the surgeon's evaluation to be able to allow Mom to put her full weight on her injured leg during rehab sessions. Mom was troubled by a lot of pain then and refused to be transported, no matter how much I had pleaded with her. It was only with the gentle persuasion of Lauren and Alex that she changed her mind, went to Los Alamitos, got evaluated and then progressed on her rehabilitation. That was a lifesaver for us! On top of that, when she began her stay, she could barely move her left leg. This was no ordinary hip fracture: she had shattered her upper femur and the surgeon had to allow the fragments to simply fuse together randomly around a support rod he had put in. Lauren and Alex got her going, one slow step at a time, all the time dealing with setbacks caused my Mom's reactions to her medication. By the time she got out in early October, she could move reasonably well with a walker. These days, with me lightly holding on to her with a gait belt, we do the El Dorado Nature Center 1 mile trail every week. I can't thank them enough for their leadership, professionalism and excellent rehabilitation skills!

When my wife questioned staff , she was informed if you don't like what happened file a complaint with management. I was running a lot for Marathon training and also playing soccer twice a week. The pain wouldn't go away and interfered with my active lifestyle. I had never received PT but thankfully i found Dr. Ngo to help me with my pain that wouldn't go away after weeks. He was able to help diagnose the root cause of my pain and gave a great explanation of the linkage between the mind and body.
