We've come here a couple times in the past, but missed last year when they raised their prices. It's a bit of a sticker shock, but they're dog friendly and we had our pooch so we stayed. Apple picking is merely the bait to get you in the door; in fact, you pay extra now to leave with a bag of apples (assuming you find some still on the tree). You're literally paying the gate fee to ride the rides, so maybe it's better to think of it as an amusement park. Since moving to the great state of GA, I've been doing my best to try out the classic experiences that I'm told a Georgian should enjoy. Apple picking in the fall, now that's one of the biggest ones. Every year, the tourists in Ellijay descend upon these storied orchards with an intensity that really doesn't have much of a rival. It gets ultra busy, so my advice is to make your visit to the area outside of the traditional peak of the apple harvest. The festival is great and everything, but if you really want to enjoy the constellation of area farms, pay your visit a few weeks before others do. That being said, Reece is a super spot, and really fun for a visit with the kids. It's not like there aren't many choices here. The local farms really lay it out in a friendly way for the family day trippers. Among other farms, Reece is distinguished by the jawdropping views from the top of the hill. There are much worse ways to spend an afternoon, crunching on an apple and watching God's country roll on endlessly into the distance. They offer, of course, lots of activities for your tired munchkins (petting zoo!). Like other farms, the picking itself is pretty simple. You (1) pay a fee for a sack of varying sizes and (2) they set you loose amongst the trees. The farm store is very spacious and friendly, with the usual fare on offer. Reading other reviews, I probably missed an opportunity to get one of their hand pies, which are made in a tremendous array of fillings. My mistake, apparently. They've got lots of other stuff, from hot sauces to jellies to all kinds of what-have-you. A few things to keep in mind: (1) If you are picking on the hill (the portion of the farm south of route 52), there are not really a lot of convenient pass-through paths between the rows of trees, between which are strung guide wires. Your grandmother will not be able to climb between these wires. It's a working farm, so just keep that in mind when bringing infirm or otherwise vulnerable folks. Love this place!!! So many fried pies to choose from. Apples galore!! Where to start... the staff are all so friendly and helpful. They are quick with the pie lines too. I got an apple cider donut, was nice and fluffy. I also got a pecan fried pie. Yum! It was nice that you could buy single apples to try first. Well, we went back again the next day and bought bags of the apples. So good!!! Ludacrisp and Ruby Rush are my decided favs!!! Grabbed some pork rinds too, can't wait to try those. Amazing spot! Lots of apples, fun for everyone. Staff are very kind & accommodating. It does get hot. We got there early -around 10:30 and still had a wait to pay to go in so keep that in mind. We were pleasantly surprised how delicious the September wonder apples were! My kids loved the petting farm. We all devoured our hand pies from the market. We also purchased cider donuts, jams, salsa, & peanut brittle. My kids really enjoyed the wagon ride around the entire property. We will definitely be back next year! read more

We had a really great time here. We live in Atlanta and so the drive was about an hour and a half. It's located in Ellijay. When you get closer to the Apple orchards, there's a couple of orchards close to each other, there is traffic. I recommend you get there earlier. We went there Sunday, they open at 1 PM we got there about 245. It was already packed! about a mile and a half out it takes about 20 minutes to get there because of traffic so make sure you get there in plenty of time. They have tons of parking spots and they also have parking on the grass. no one is organizing the traffic parking on the grass, it's sort of free-for-all so just be aware of this it can get weird! and be careful not to park somewhere where people can box you in because that seem to happen this weekend a couple of cars got box down because people weren't thinking when they parked :/ this particular orchard is one of the bigger ones and they have things on either side of the road including parking. You also have to wait in line to get tickets and it can get very sunny and hot! there are a variety of ticket options ranging from five dollars a person to about $30 a person. I think buying just a bag for apples is about five bucks. They also have extra things that come with tickets including pig racing, wagon ride and a few other things. Additional activities cost some money but it's not super expensive. It's a great place to bring children and there's tons of kids. The orchard is pretty big. Most of the best apple picking, at least for this season, is in the back of the orchard! also in the back there's pig racing and a corn maze for the kids. You may have to pay extra for the corn maze (upon initial entry when you buy all the tickets). When you get up to front to buy tickets they'll explain everything to you. The ticket line can move fairly fast depending upon how many people they have at the front. We parked on the side with the pig races. On the other side there's a huge store with tons of apples that you can buy along with the jams, jellies, candy, popcorn, fresh vegetables and tons of pumpkins etc. it's also packed! they also sell food like fried apple pies and pastries. On the same side as the store there is a Apple Canon, a slide and a petting farm. I'm not sure which one of these costs extra. I think they have apple orchards on that side too but we did not pick apples from this side. This was my first apple picking experience and I really loved it. I will say it was warm because you are in the sun a lot- the orchards aren't shaded. it can get packed full of people so I recommend getting there early. You probably need about 4 to 6 hours there may be more if you have more kids. It was just the two of us, no children, and we got there around 2:45 and left when they closed around six... and we felt like we could have stayed longer. lots of walking and some hills, wear comfy shoes! as far as restrooms are concerned there's Porta potty's on one side and on the other side there's real restrooms but I'm not sure any of them are super clean. i didn't use any of them so i can't be sure. Most of the activities and stuff are external so people aren't exhibiting Covid precautions. In the store however not many people are wearing masks and they're not limiting the number of people. It is a tradition for me to bring my kids here each year to pick apples. They LOVE it. I love it. The orchards themselves are expansive, with lots of options for picking if you go early enough. I think Mercier is more beautiful in landscape, so that is my fave if just going with adults, but BJ Reece is my pick with kids. There is a lot to do for kids, though I find everything a bit pricey. The petting zoo had several empty cages when we went, but we still paid the full price. It is pricey, but you are paying for the experience, I guess. I really like going on the hayride to the orchard on side #2, but my kids love the big slide and petting zoo on side #1. I do wish that everything was just all together. We usually end up just picking one side or the other based on time and crowds. Be sure to check the website before you go to find out what is available. For example I visited on a Friday and saw that many of the family fun options were not open (fine by me since they are expensive anyway). We will go back year after year. read more

We got away from the "family-friendly" atmosphere at Hillcrest and found this place. It was the perfect size and vibe we were looking for. I've heard Mercier is a step up in landscape prettiness, but BJ Reeces has a pretty nice feeling to it and gives you a great selection of apples that are easy to access (the diff varieties are planted right next to each other so you basically just take the tractor ride (included!) and start from one part of the orchard and keep working your way back towards the entrance point). The apple cider donuts were meh, pretty much just tasted like cinnamon donuts. They were sold like a dozen together that you can take home to share w/ the suckers who couldn't make it to apple picking :P But the apple fritter ($3.25) was something unique--tasted very doughy and delicious! If you like the bottom part of the crust of apple pies, you might like this. I also got a cup of apple cider slush, which was really refreshing after apple picking! The apple ciders sold in gallons, from $4 to $7 or so and I got one which was perfect for a party. read more

We've been here several times and today was another great visit. We paid the $5 entry fee and chose a $14 bag to fill. We probably could have just gotten the $8 bag. A good amount of apples fit in the $8 bag. There are different options you can pay that include the entry, picking and some of the premium attractions. Our kids were more interested in picking and the wagon ride (which is included in the $5) so that worked out. They did spot the jumping pillow but that was just $2. After picking we went down to the store. The line for fried pies was to the back of the store but they moved that line super fast. We got apple, pecan, and strawberry pies. They were great. They are not that sweet. Truth be told I could use more sugar coating on the outside of the pie crust but they are still good. Although they are fried they are not greasy. I've been to Elijay several times and always wanted to do the u-pick thing at the apple orchards, and we got a chance to do so today. It was a great experience and is well organized. Many of the apples trees are bare and have rotten findings, and I think that was frost-related. Otherwise, the experience was great. You've got to search for good ones and you must check out the Farm Market with the bakery, local ciders, farm-fresh veggies, and other delicious treats. The people here are really nice. Kids will love the animals on the farm and kid-friendly recreational activities. The entire family can have fun at B.J. Reece's. Family fun! Great place for family with little kids. They have so much activities. We came during apple season, but to our disappointment the apples had all dropped due to some prior temperatures drop. Despite no apple picking, the kids loved petting farm animals, milking the cow, and walking through the small corn maze. My favorite are the pork grind and apple slushy at the market, very tasty. My family and I come here every fall for apple picking. It's a wonderful place to pick apples and make a day out of it. They have plenty of different types of apples where you pay for a bag, and then can fill it up. They also have a hayride, one of those trampoline jumping things for children, petting zoo, and a fair sized barn shack thing where you can buy already picked apple, jams, apple cider, and food you can order. This year, I was so disappointed from the lack of COVID precautions. Maybe one or two of the workers in the shop were wearing masks, they didn't seem to sanitizing or cleaning any surfaces, and the entire place was crazy crowded. I really enjoyed the apple picking part, since it was outdoors and away from other people, but the inside of the shop definitely needs work. read more

I had a great time apple picking here. I stopped by on Labor Day. The line wasn't too bad, but pro tip: if you are picking with out kids or if you just want apples, go across the street to the other orchard. There was no wait and there were plenty of apples within reach. I picked a peck of delicious apples: Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, and a couple other varieties. I definitely recommend it. Omg. This was my first time apple picking at an orchard. I was over the moon excited. This place is popular so they were definitely busy. Everyone is pretty good at wearing masks. It's very populated when waiting in line but when you get to the actual orchard section, everyone is separated. This orchard has 2 sides. The 2nd location is across the street. The side with animal petting, etc, had only 2 types of apples. Whereas the one across the street had about 6 different kinds of apples. Inside the market, they sell baked goods like pies, apple cider donuts, ciders etc. they have different kinds of cider besides old fashioned. I got peach and old fashioned because you can't go wrong. And oh baby. Drink it cold or warm her up, it screams fall and I'm here for it. They also have a mini snack stand where they sell sodas and hotdogs. Parking can be tricky here. It's tight and you might also have to park on the side of the road. But because everyone is coming in and out all day, sure enough, you should be able to find a spot. read more

My first impression was completely disgusted as I needed to take my toddler to the restroom and every single facility was flooded! The porta potty was the cleanest option. Thankfully I did see a worker mopping and cleaning as we were leaving but just a heads up! Before we left I even had my toddler use our own potty that we bring on car rides so we didn't have to venture back into their facilities. The rest of our day here was wonderful! The petting zoo is definitely immersive and tons of baby animals to pet for toddlers and kids. There's an awesome slide and apple cannon! The trees had plenty of apples (although there did seem to be a lot of litter (maybe add more trash cans in the orchard). There's also a wagon ride which we didn't take but sounded fun. The store had everything you might want at an orchard from cider to ice cream, fresh produce, jams, and hot food as well! We would definitely come back! read more

Bj Reece is always such a treat! My family and I go every year, and we definitely weren't going to miss out on it this year because of covid! We wore our masks and still had a great time! We went in late September and it seemed like a lot of the favorite apples were already gone. So I suggest going right at the beginning of the season to make sure you get a good pick of everything! The apples we picked were so crispy and delicious that it almost makes you wonder why they don't taste like that in the stores lol I suggest bringing a wagon if you want to pick a lot of apples (those bags get heavy pretty fast). Once we had our fill of picking apples and activities we went to the little shop on site. 10/10 would recommend trying the pie, donuts, and jams! We started coming here 18 years ago when our youngest was a baby and while we are thrilled that this place is a success we won't go back. Husband and I just wanted to pick apples but we had to pay $13pp just to get into the orchard- they have packages that include various rides and activities and too bad if you just want to pick apples. We chose the $20 for a half-pack of apples option and it is is a good thing we like Pink Lady because that was all they had despite having 4 others listed on the board. The market was absolute mayhem with no one easing traffic flow, creating lines, etc. and the prices are ridiculous. We bought apple fritters and apple hand pies and they were incredibly greasy and flavorless and we threw them away after 2 bites. Try to find a smaller orchard for a better and cheaper time. read more

New update. I came on a Saturday to pick some apples. Well, it was a horrible day to come as the lines were packed out. The traffic was backed up on the road to drive up. Parking was packed as well. We stood in the long line to buy tickets to get in. As we stood in line, there were like 15 signs saying different things. I didn't pay much attention as I was too busy not trying to get bit by dogs and getting hit by a car. As we approached the cashier, the lady stated that the BJ Reece apple farm ran out of apples. I then asked for a $20 empty bag to pick some apples. We walked around for approximately 30 minutes and could not find any apples on the tree. I was pissed. I asked the lady about where all the apples are that was handing it the map and she pointed me to the cashier. I went up to the cashier that sold me the bag and told her that we been walking around for 30 minutes looking for apples on the tree and there were none. I also asked why would you sell me a bag when there were no apples left to pick. She said she told me when she sold me the bag. I told her that no she did not or I wouldn't have bought a $20 bag. She said she tells everybody. She started getting a super nasty attitude. Very rude and unprofessional. We were going back and forth for 3 minutes. She basically stated that I was lying. She also said there was a sign saying that they ran out of apples on the trees. Well, I am sorry, but there were like 15 signs around the cashier and all a long the fence. I must of missed it. This is like the 4th time I been here and have never been treated so rudely before. She totally ruined my experienced there and we already wasted $10 to walk around to pick apples when there were none. She finally gave me my $20 back and was fussing about how I wrinkled the empty bag. I was like really? I wanted to call a manager and file a complaint on her but I was already annoyed and pissed off. She really needs an attitude check and learn about customer service. I probably won't be back again after this experience. We went today on a field trip with our homeschool group. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed it. Some of the extra activities are only open on the weekend due to staffing we were told. So weekends are probably the best time to go if you want to do all the extra activities. We had a great time though for sure I would still recommend going during the week anyway if your fine with some of the activities being unavailable. We decided to go apple picking for our "Sunday Funday" and this was the perfect spot. The orchard is located in Ellijay and had many activities to do in addition to picking apples. We had no issues with parking...there were plenty of spaces and they were fairly busy. We ordered a few items from the bakery....apple cider donuts (HIGHLY recommend trying) and apple slushies to be exact!! We then found our way to the entrance of the orchards. There are different packages offered depending on what activities you want to do. We ended up paying $5/each to enter the orchards. The ticket included a hayride, pig race, milking a cow and access to both orchards (there are orchards on both sides of the road). We walked through the orchard and took a million photos and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. There was a slide and some sort of apple slingshot game where apples are loaded and you try to hit the targets which was cool. There was also a petting zoo, pony rides and cow milking! We then decided to head to the other side and explore and we picked up some Apple Cider Juice on the way. I would HIGHLY recommend trying and buying. This stuff is delicious. On the other side we were able to take the hayride and watch the pig races. They had many activities on this side as well including a corn maze with prizes and a bouncing area. Love this place! My girlfriends and I came for the apple picking and wagon ride. It was a fun experience and we enjoyed picking our own organic apples. The barn sells so many delicious treats, we watched the apple cider donuts being made and ate them hot off the racks. Literally melt in your mouth deliciousness. Showed up Labor Day and all of the golden delicious trees were already picked. Very few apples were on the trees. Bought 2 bags to fill and were only able to fill one bag. Asked if we could exchange the empty bag for apples from the store, got a hard NO, so donated the bag to a person coming in. Quite disappointed. The orchards are picked for the store and leftovers left on the trees for U-Pick.. no guarantees that you will find good apples. read more

You use to be able to pick apples and only pay $2.00 plus cost of bag of apples you choose. Now you have to pay for everything, even if you don't care to do the other stuff. For a family, it is outrageous! They also use to let you take a picture in Orchard for only the $2.00. Now you can't even take a picture for tradition with out paying through the nose. Just not worth it anymore. It's ashame when you have a good thing and then expect your loyal customers to pay for all your changes, when you were obviously doing fine before. read more

The side that we bought wristbands on let me and my oldest daughter, who didnt have wristbands, go in with the 3 youngest just as long as we didn't do the activities. But when we got to the other side of the road, which is where they had the petting farm, and the cow milk. My youngest daughter, only 6, was looking forward to that for weeks... well, when we got up to the wristband check place they told me that I could not go in with my children. So my 11 year old and her friend also 11 years old, took my youngest daughter in to see stuff. We drove over 7.5 hours to get here. I missed my baby milking her first moo moo. Cows are her favorite!! Its just frustrating that one side stay yeah yall be ok to be with them. But not the other side wasn't. I worked so hard for my babies so they can have fun. As I am writing this, I am standing here at the fence with a broken heart just waiting for my kids to come back out and realizing I will never be going back. They are also so so unorganized here!! We typically come here in the fall. However, sometimes if we arrive and it seems too crowded we've gone to another. This year we decided last minute to go up and weren't sure if there would be any apples. SURPRISE! There were TONS of apples and I was so excited. It looked a little intimidating and crowded as we walked up and had to wait 8 minutes in line before walking in. However, once we got in it was open fields and everyone was so spread out that it didn't seem like other years when we've gone. We went across the street to that Apple picking btw. We were able to get tons of different apples. Also watched the little pigs and kids race each other. I'm always a little bit skeptical about how I feel about that, but it didn't seem too bad. The pigs were immediately taken back and away from children. We enjoyed our own little walk across the whole field. Picked some apples. Sat and enjoyed some tea we had brought. It was a lovely day (not too hot and not too cold). Let me just also say - they crowd handled like PROS that they are. Parking was super easy and to get out it was easy too. Of course there are some ways they can improve, and I don't write this as a complaint but more of a "I hope they read this and do improve these areas." *Bathrooms!!!!! We went during a busy weekend. It's not the orchards first weekend, they've been doing this for years. They NEED TO HAVE SOMEONE TEND to the restrooms!!! CONSTANTLY! You have so many ppl of all ages and nobody tending to the restrooms, COME ON! *I probably shouldn't write this but, I do think they need a stricter attendant at the jumping pillow. I was silly to PAY for tickets to go in because the attendant wasn't checking ppl coming in. I saw so many ppl just walk in with that smile on their face like, HEH HEH, she didn't see us, and also saw ppl who honestly purchased a ticket and handed her the ticket. She frankly on bothered if someone handed her a ticket, otherwise, it was pointless her being there. Onto the review. I've been to this orchard three times. Every time I go, it's with new ppl and they all love it. There is something really thrilling about picking apples. Activities my family, friends, and I have enjoyed: Zip lining apple picking cow milking watching the pig races (which is over in the blink of an eye) the slide jumping pillow tractor ride buying baked goods----apple pie, candy apple, apple donuts, apple cake, popcorn, and the lil hand pies (which I wouldn't recommend the other flavors because they were canned fillings, booo) Plenty of parking. THere are two sides/two orchards. One side has the tractor ride, jumping pillow, zip lining, pig races, corn maze, and apples. The other side has the bakery, shopping, slide, cow milking, petting zoo, and apple cannons. You pay for a bag, price varies in size. Pay for admission. SPend as much time as you like. Saw couple ppl having picnics. Don't eat the apples until you've cleaned them. They are covered with spray and you can see the white coating. My advice, wear sneakers. You will see so many apples on the floor. I never knew this, so it might be helpful to newbies. Enjoy. read more

What a fun and wonderful day spent at this orchard with my son. Honestly this place was a bit more pricey than I expected as far as the activities for kids but the orchard is so grand and staff so friendly I didn't mind. So this place was 75 miles away, about a 90 minute drive. When I purchased the u-pick tickets I was told that admission was $5 per person and that $5 admission included 4 activities: the tractor ride, petting zoo, milking the cow and something else. I bought the 2 tickets and an $8 bag of apples and a pony ride for my son which was an additional $5. The staff informed me the apples near the market are not ready for picking so I should pick from the orchard a cross the street instead. I did as they said. We got plenty of apples and took a tractor ride to watch the pig race which was adorable. We also took a cow train which was $2 per person. We returned to the top of the hill to main area to get the car and had to walk past a bounce-pad which was....you guessed it $2. We finally made it back to the u-pick area near the market so my son could take his pony ride. We walk towards the barn and I realize there are like a zillion apple trees laden with fruit. It dawned on me the staff suggested we go pick in the adjoining orchard for marketing purposes. After the pony ride we made our way to the apple cannon. Pretty cool shooting apples hundreds of yards into the field. We wait in line for a few and the employees informs us we need a ticket. A $5 ticket. At this point I'm asking myself why does this place charge an admission fee if it does not cover any activities? Well despite all that we had a great time. All the activities worked up a ferocious appetite. The market offers all sorts of apple goodies. I had a regular fried apple pie and a sugar free one and could not tell the difference. They were both delicious! I'm relieved I only bought 2, otherwise I would have eaten the whole box. I also bought a quart of apple cider. Best cider I have ever had. Crisp and fresh and light. Yummy! BJ Reece is the full gitty up. Apple picking, wagon rides, pig races and more. They do allow dogs and there are lots of families around. Get there early because the line stretches for miles in either direction! A fair warning, there are some handicap spaces near the store, however this place is not handicap friendly. There are lots of hills and uneven terrain. We visited on the first weekend of October and there were plenty of apples for the picking. It wasn't crowded but within an hour the place was packed! We had a nice day and it was a fun activity overall. My only feedback is that they could use some better crowd control and some additional cashiers. read more

We drive to BJ on Labor Day. It was a nice sunny day and we had never picked apples before. The staff in the farmers market was not the friendliest. The you g ladies at the bakery stand looked like they were on restriction and this was their punishment. There are a couple of registers throughout the market and it was confusing if we paid and ordered or if we ordered and paid or which line was for what product. All while trying to figure out where to pay for Apple picking and the cost. Eventually we found out the picking was behind the market And there was a whole other entrance to the orchard. It was relatively inexpensive for the four of us ($22) to pick a peck of apples. I found the orchard to be difficult to walk in tennis. The boys enjoyed picking the apples but were surprised at the amount of wasted apples on the ground. All in all we had a good time and kept it short as the sun was beaming and it was hot out there. We went back to the market bought donuts, apple fritters, and cider to take home. Once home, I took a bite of the fritter and immediately spat it out as it tasted like pure oil!! It was horrible. The donuts packaging does not say BJ Orchard anywhere, so I am not sure if they bring them from a local bakery. Haven't tried the cider yet as I am leary of eating a anything else I bought at the market. On a positive note, the apples we picked are outstanding! read more

Nice selection of apples to pick. The thing is, if you don't get there when they open on the weekend, be prepared to wait in line for up to an hour. Why they don't have online reservations and payment is a good question. Also be prepared to hike some good hills. I see this is VERY expensive compared to one or two years ago. So, apple picking is exactly what I thought it would be. You go and pick all your apples in ten minutes and you're done. Not that exciting TBH. Each person pays $5 entrance ($2 on weekdays). Then, you buy one of three plastic bags ($8, $14, $24 or something like that). The price is higher than Publix but obviously it's for the enjoyment. There is a petting zoo area, which isn't huge but it's something extra for the kids. It was an extra $2 for each kid and the adult accompanying them, which I thought was a lame rule. The orchid is pretty dang huge and they have various trees. They should have some ladders out there but maybe it's a legal thing. Also, some food options would be nice. The closest food option other than the small town nearby is about 30 mins away. The gift shop has pastries and jams but no food. I was starving. It's a fun activity for the kids or groups but not a bargain for sure! read more

We took our family of 11 today although we had fun picking apples we were charged $8 a person to enter. The petting zoo was the worst petting zoo we've ever seen, and the only two other activities were a corn pit and a slide. Understand that it isn't the season but they really shouldn't charge for the kids stuff when there was no one there. We had to pay for apples on top of that. The market and staff inside were great and we enjoyed some apple pies. This was far from a family friendly orchard. read more

This is our second year in a row the wifey and I come here for apple picking. We picked this place originally since they are the only dog-friendly orchard in the area that we know of. Thinking of this, we noticed there weren't any poop stations anywhere in the orchard, so be careful of inconsiderate pet owners leaving their turds behind! As far as the experience, we went the first weekend of October, and by 11 am, the place was jammed packed! Good thing we arrived early! The lines had people close together, half masked, half non masked. They require masks in the store. The trees closest to the trails were picked over, but if you trample inside some, there's plenty of fruit to be found! The store had everything apple you can hope for. Overall a good place to come pick apples and enjoy the nice fall weather! read more
