Hard to believe I didn't spend more time here when I actually lived in Oregon but now coming back is such a treat for me. Sitting there and seeing the people that come through the doors, you can definitely tell that this is one of the main coffee places that people from Forest Grove regularly frequent. Pros- inviting atmosphere, lots of places to sit and read, study, catch up with long lost friends - incredibly friendly baristas with a lot of knowledge about their products - fair trade coffee and fair trade chocolates for sale (always am amazing thing to find) - finally I tried two different coffee roasts during my weekend in Forest Grove and both were great. One was Sumatra and the other was an Ethiopian roast. I must say, for me the Ethiopian roast was one of the most interesting and complex coffee roasts I have had the opportunity to taste. Definitely a must try for coffee drinkers. (Or tea drinkers who want to be adventurous) read more

I travel a lot so I am always looking for a great coffee shop, with lite lunch fare, in a cozy environment that also allows me to work on computer AND make quiet phone calls! I know--asking for waay too much. Found this place and it fits all of my needs!! The staff was amazingly helpful. I gave up bread for Lent so am struggling to find protein style sandwiches (wrapped in lettuce). After stating my issue the staff came up with a perfect combo of soup and tuna with lettuce. The Turtle Pie Mocha is dessert in a cup! The food was great. However the real treat was the service to others that I observed sitting in my quiet alcove. Many customers were immediately greeted by name, regular orders announced by memory (even down to some exact temperatures required!). Every staff member that rotated the register was equally friendly and knowledgable! True art! I will be back when in town again!! read more

They're child friendly, with a bunch of toys in the back and a kid's table. I recommend the Tea Party, which is a cute little hot chocolate with whipped cream and syrup in an espresso cup, with a wafer on the side. It's $1.25 if I remember correctly. The employees are great. They remember you, they're friendly and they really want you to enjoy your visit. They roast their own beans and their mixed coffee drinks taste great. Be prepared to wait..............a long time. They're getting a one star based on wait time, rudeness from the "barista" (I use that term loosely) and quality of their mocha's. Their coffee is pretty good (better than starbucks but not as good as Dutch Bros.). I've never gotten anything flavored, just a latte or a mocha (mocha just once). They use a powdered mocha mix, it's not that good. As far as waiting, you'd better have patience and a lot of it. If there is any kind of line (like two people in front of you), you're in for a wait. Usually I end up waiting shy of 10 minutes. Today there were three people in front of me. After waiting over 10 minutes and still not getting my iced latte (a pretty quick make) I left. I looked at my watch and decided it wasn't worth the wait. There were about four orders (cups) left before me. The woman that makes the coffees (it always seems to be the short red head) needs to learn it's not always about going in order, efficiency is important. Service, don't be rude to customers. The short plump red headed woman seems to be very "abrupt" when interacting with non-regulars. It's almost like you're in her way. The rest of the staff is very nice and polite. If she was more efficient and a little more polite I'd go there more often. Also, the pastries seem like they're from the night before. read more

I passed by Bj's Coffee for over a year while shopping at the nearby grocery before finally going in. I don't know what I expected upon entering but I found myself surprised and a bit confused. It's huge. Maybe it's me but I expected it to be a hole in the wall with a couple small tables at the front. This is probably one of the biggest coffee shops I've been in. As for the coffee, I have tried a couple different seasonal options (a mocha and a shake) and found both to be far too syrupy and sweet. Maybe my taste buds are changing and my brain hasn't caught up but they were not repeats for me. If I come back, I will likely opt for a simple latte. 3 stars. read more

BJ's Coffee Company has all the charm of the country cafés my grandfather took me to when I was a kid. But, those cafés didn't serve espresso or roast their own coffee. BJ's does. From the outside, BJ's isn't very impressive and threatens to be just another sterile strip mall coffee shop. Once I walked in, however, my opinion quickly changed. BJ's is huge! Plenty of comfortable tables and chairs fill the coffee house while dodging any feelings of overcrowding. Tables full of retired friend chatting over their morning coffee sit right next to young adults surfing the web or studying for finals. My five-year-old remembered BJ's from a previous visit and requested our return because of the child-friendly area and toys in the back corner. My little extrovert, she loves meeting new friends and playing together while I check email. As a roaster, BJ's isn't bad. I've been here twice and both times their single origin mid and dark roast drips started with a pleasant flavor but finished a little bitter. You know me, I believe one of the signs of a properly roasted bean is one that reaches its peak of flavor as it approaches room temperature. I have tried any of their lattes or blended drinks, but their espresso machine didn't take a break the entire time I was there. The staff was friendly and courteous enough, but they were busy enough that I didn't get a chance to dive into their knowledge of their coffee. I had to laugh after visiting B.J.'s Coffee after seeing their ad in the "Washington County Review" for their 20th Anniversary Celebration "event." The ad says that they have "Award-Winning Customer Service" and "Best Mocha Around." Who bestowed these "honors," btw? I didnt try their mochas, but NO ONE (except for the barista who made my latte who at least was polite) even smiled a peep at me. The ad also says that theyre gonna have drink & food specials all day long. They didnt have any food specials (all were full priced as far as I was concerned), but they did have $2 on "all lattes and mochas." Well I ordered a latte, but the guy just stared at me and said "$3.50." He should have at least explained why my latte costs almost twice as much as advertised for the special. Well, I wanted to avoid awkwardness, so I just paid it, and gave them a much smaller tip than what I would have put in their tip jar (and believe me, I had change for $20, so I could have given them a BIG tip). I have come to learn that if the workers are unhappy, it can be attributed to management/the owners. To B.J.'s: If you dont want new people to come into your store, DONT advertise in a community magazine for a "celebration." Moreover, their "free wi-fi" was very spotty, so I blew this joint and went to my more reliable Starbucks. read more

Bj's is a must stop if you enjoy well made coffee and great staff. They make a point to get to know their customers and what they order. The service is awesome! Sometimes before my first cup of coffee of the day, I don't want in your face conversation (unlike a chain I've been to). The staff picks up on that and I appreciate it. I've been here at least a dozen times over the last several years. I like the coffee, but somethings up with the staff that makes me not like this place. Over a dozen visits and they have not once greeted me with a hello when I walk in.... not even ONE time. They don't say thank you either. It could be a sense of entitlement, or just disdain for their jobs, but that's not my problem. I'd rather have crappy Dutch brothers than patronize this place anymore. This is my favorite coffee shop, with excellent and friendly service, and excellent coffee. I especially love their house espresso and also recommend the Sumatra Mandeling and the Ethiopian yirgaschiffe. Their mochas are my hands down favorite. There is a really neat coffee roaster by the front door as well as several ceiling-high Arabica coffee trees (real, not fake!). Terrible coffee joint! This place has a funky smell to it and the so called barista's are snobby and lame. I'd rather spend my money at the Safeway and brew my own then go to this hole in the wall again! I'm surprised this place is still in business with the low quality dirt water they call coffee. Have to give a shout-out for great customer service here. I entered the shop just as what seemed to be every book, cat, and craft hobbyist club in the city convened to sip espresso and dish gossip. So the line was long. And slow. The gramma in front of me ordered like she had never seen the inside of a coffee shop before, but I just put on the bemused smile I borrowed from Mr. Potato Head - it's Friday, after all, the sun is shining, and I was out in the Grove on a rare work mission that kept me away from the confines of the office, so what's a few minutes in line? When I made it to the register, the lady ringing me up charged me for a smaller drink price to reward my patience...and then, as the drink was being finished a few minutes later, she asked if I wanted a bonus shot of espresso thrown in, for good measure. Customer service does certainly still exist, folks, and hey, the coffee is great, too! read more
