Had a blast and would definitely go back again! The only reason why I'm not giving the full 5 stars is because of the slight unorganization. SERVICE: Everyone from the front office to the beach crew were very nice. However, I could recommend the ladies in the front office to either speak louder or more slowly. I can't blame them when there are loud patrons in the line, but the lady made no attempt to talk louder when she was going over the rules and directions. I'm sorry, but when a $500 deposit is on the line, we were trying to make sure we heard all the rules right. She was also talking very quickly when it came to the directions of how to locate the beach crew. (UN)ORGANIZATION: I would not recommend ATVing for anyone who is going to be on a strict schedule. We made a reservation and called the night before to ask if there was anything we needed to bring and if we had to come earlier to sign waivers, etc. We were told to show up 15 minutes before our reservation. Our reservation was for 11am. We happened to get there 30 min early, sign our lives away, and get our gear. From there we drove down to the beach, found parking in the residential, and managed to locate the shuttle service. The good thing is that they say they don't start your time (in our case we had a 2hour reservation) til you get to the beach and the people there sign you out for the bikes. Once we got to the beach, we had to wait for the crew to deliver ATVs and then watch them proceed to unload the bikes. It wasn't the issue of waiting for bikes, but I guess when you see other ATV providers on the beach with rows of ATVs, it sucks waiting for them. All in all, it took an hour from when we started the paperwork til we got to ride the bikes. If don't park on the beach, you are also at the mercy of their shuttle schedule. We then had to go back to their main office to drop off the helmets (and get our deposit), which took an additional hour. It wasn't a big deal since we didn't have much else planned for the day, but it's something to note if you are trying to make certain dinner reservations etc. Basically, make sure you allow yourself enough time for waiting in line, paperwork, actually getting to the beach, (pray they have ATVs ready for your arrival), and getting back to the main office to drop off the gear DO: + Long pants! A girl friend wore shorts and she could feel the heat coming off the running engine towards the end of our time. + Long Sleeves or SUNSCREEN: i have the greatest tan line... + Fanny Pack!! Yes, unattractive, but you want your phone secure (and easily accessible for those instagram pictures!) Backpacks work fine too, but not as accessible. + Make a reservation. Their line gives priority to reservations! Once they are out of rentals, they will turn people away. Honestly, a couple bad reviews of this place are unfairly on people who decided to risk coming (and drive hours) without a reservation. How hard is it to pick up the phone and make a reservation. Don't fault the company because you decided to YOLO it and show up with no reservation... read more

Went down to Pismo this weekend and searched BJ's on here. We had a blast. Customer service was great! All staff were friendly and accommodating. We arrive early as we did not have a reservation. With this being our first time, everyone was super helpful. Only one thing, we had to make 3 stops. 1) place where you pick up a helmet 2) across the street to the main office to pay and 3) down to the beach to get the ATVs. (after we got done, it looked like we could have picked up the helmets and the ATVs by the beach and only need to go to the main office) SO FYI just go to the main office. We were in pismo beach for the Labor Day weekend. My girlfriend has never ridden an ATV before so I surprised her with a 2 hr session. She really enjoyed it. The people at the office and at the rental place on the beach were really nice and accommodating to all the needs. It's a good price for the amount of time you get on the ATV. I decided to go with BJ's after scouring through Yelp reviews of different ATV rental companies in Pismo. Not only was it my first time in Pismo but my first time ATVing, and I wanted to make sure it was as stress-free as possible. Unfortunately it wasn't. Of the four bikes, one of them was extremely problematic. Of course, since I was paired up with it and I was the only one who hadn't been ATVing before, I just assumed it was me. So after many stalls, stutters, rolls into the dunes and taking forever to get out, I was about ready to throw my hands up in the air and quit. Until my fiancee switched me ATVs and realized it wasn't a user-error but the equipment. I wouldn't have been so upset if when we returned the bikes after the two hours there, they apologized. But they essentially blamed me and that pissed me off beyond belief. The only reason I decided to tell them of all the problems was because I didn't want them to send other people out with the same glitchy equipment. But rather than listen, they took it back, filled it with gas and readied it for the next group. It really gave me the feeling they were more in the business of making money than ensuring people have a fun time. If you aren't new to ATVs and can work your way around faulty equipment, go with this company. If, however, you are new not only was the faulty equipment a HUGE con but the all-too-short tutorial given in about one minute left me confused and not knowing what I was doing... I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a first-timer. read more

The negative 2 stars is for a really unmaintained parking lot - when entering my Car's bottom hit the concrete - making a loud sound. Unfortunately - the steering wheel now makes a noise when turning. Its a new car :( The ATV's were great - the kids working there are super helpful - good experience on that front. read more

Second time renting BJ's ATV! and always had a good experience. Customer service is awesome they are very helpful and knowledgeable and they also offer a shuttle to get to the ATV destination. The Honda 250 was very easy to use and good for starters. It wasn't difficult to figure out or to use. The 4 hour ATV ride is worth every penny! we packed up our own snacks and drinks for the long adventure ride in the dunes. We are definitely going back here again soon! read more

We were there a day before and they took the time in telling us the difference ATV sizes and even took us out to try on the different ATV sizes 4 adults and 3 kids (ages 8, 11 and 12). I love Bj's. We've used them twice, and they have some of the best gear on the beach. Making reservations is easy, the helmets fit well, and we've never had any malfunctions with the ATV's. An easy transaction for those with motorcycle experience... they dont' talk your ear off about stuff you already know. (though this is a bad thing if you're a tourist with no riding experience) Couple suggestions for someone who has never gone: TELL THEM you don't know what you're doing!!! seriously- riding an ATV is dangerous, and when you go out there, you're on your own. Ask them to review what to look for when riding, and read any safety reccomendations before you head out. when heading out to the beach, use a jeep or other vehicle that can run in sand... don't stop at all while driving out or you may get stuck and have to wait for some nice person with a tow cable to get you out. always wear a sweatshirt or jacket- something you can tie around your waist if it gets too warm. more often than not, it's cold and windy on the dunes. ask for goggles- a must have if there is any wind at all. it gets windier later in the day (past noon) ride within your limits! if you've never jumped up a dune before, get some advise from an experienced rider on what to do before you copy what some of the people do out there. when you get air, those things have a mind of their own. don't fake having riding experience just to get a 400cc bike... you'll regret it if you really have no to some expierence with a motorcycle. for a first time out- a fully automatic would be the most enjoyable, and maybe a semi-automatic if you think you can work it. i just feel that ATVing is a new sport with unfamiliar machinery, and it takes time away from riding when you can't figure out how to get out of first gear...and then you stall it instantly once you do. if you're going riding- feel free to message me to ask for more info. :) i'm happy to help any rider have a safe and fun trip. read more

Fun ride for a while but the amount of professionalism at this company is below satisfactory. The front desk staff was just terrible I felt like I was in episode of clueless because that is exactly how the girl acted. Just simple!!! Giggling for no reason. First she messed up on the contract and then was complaining about how they can't use a new paper like what??? That just set a bad representation in their end. She waisted 10 min looking for white out because all were dryer out. Then after we paid she ran through the directions faster than she collected the money like HELLO I just told you I drove 3 hours!! Not from here....Then when we finally got there we waited forever to get our gear. The guest that was in front of us asked for a bigger helmet the staff had the nerve to breathe hard and say "here ya go for your BIG DOMB " I couldn't believe the hospitality!! Then I had to change my ATV twice because they were out of gas and the other one gears were stuck. Then the same guy that spoke about the poor guys head says I'll give u 15 extra minutes.. like what!? 15 min!! Like that's going to account for the 45 min I just wasted. I was in the area for a beach vacation with some friends. The place was easy to find, but a little unorganized in execution. We came in on a Monday morning, our reservation was for 9:30am. Two women were at the front desk, the taller, tanner woman directed us to the shorter woman. She had us sign waivers and we paid as well as for the deposit ($200) which is refunded to us at the end of the time. She instructed us to the beach location to which we drove over. Since it was a Monday morning, it was pretty light so we were able to park in the beach lot for free. Street parking was available for 2 hours so we chose the free lot because our reservation was for 2 hours and we didn't want to push it and get a parking ticket. So this is where the organization was lacking. We got there and couldn't find anyone and weren't sure how far down the beach we needed to walk. We called and were told to wait because they hadn't arrived yet. We then saw 2 trucks drive by hauling trailers of vehicles in the back. But they didn't say anything to us as we stood there with helmets and goggles. A 3rd driver caught us and offered us a ride to the beach spot. He apologized to us for us being here before the actual people were on the beach. He got things set up once we got out of the car and they prepared our vehicles and gave us a quick tutorial as to what to do. Simple enough right? So we had the map with a number to call in case the ATVs flip over or shuts off (rare). We found the path to the dunes and headed there first. Maybe that wasn't the greatest idea because we were still getting used to the ATVs. As a result, we got stuck on some of the hills and were separated and couldn't move. They didn't talk to us about getting stuck on the hills, but it was uncircled item number 3 that we didn't see until AFTER our trip. But we managed to get ourselves out of the sand. We proceeded back towards the water and rode for another hour. I think it was here that my friends and I got a better feel for the ATVs and could maneuver better. We turned back, finding some sand dollars and sea shells to pick up. By then, we got our bearings and headed back to the amateur hills. We had more fun and could cut loose then. There are definitely some more challenging hills and dunes, but we were fine cutting loose where we were. By the time we made it back, the crowds increased which made it more challenging to maneuver around. We were driven back to the main entrance and then drove back to the office to get our deposit back and return the helmets. All in all it was a fun time. We snapped some fun pictures and had a fun ride for 2 hours. I recommend bringing a zip-lock back to store your phone and avoid the sand, but other than that, put on some sunblock too. I forgot to put some on my forearms so I was slightly burned from the ride. But it was a good time despite the disorganization. Check in with Yelp and get the gas refill fee waived. Have fun! Check in process went really smooth. The lady at the front desk was really nice and very informative. Our 250 ATV's shut down a few times but when we called for assistance they were quick to respond and explain in good detail on what to do to get them back up and running. Had so much fun! Coming from Toronto with rarely any beaches at all, I knew I wanted to do sand dune ATV-ing on the west coast. BJ's ATV Rentals was a great place to rent. They do minimum 2 hour rentals and pretty much equip you with everything you need. I would give 5 stars, but there was one lady at the counter that was EXTREMELY rude. This is totally worth the trip to Pismo! It's over 15k acres of sand dunes that you get to ride wherever you want. The instructions are pretty minimal. Just make sure you bring a phone in case you get stuck in the sand. The process to check out the atvs were a bit confusing because you have to drive to the beach and wait for somebody to pick you up, but that's no sign. They just tell you to stand there and some truck will swing by, which took a bit of time. Otherwise, lots of fun! read more

Had a fun time! And Great pricing... We will be back. Customer service wasn't so go... We told the girl up front that we had never done this before... Quad Virgins! She didn't explain anything well to us... She Told us it was OK to wear sunglasses while riding, noooot! Sand all in your eyes... The Darn goggles were for free and she said we didn't need them. She Tells us the walk from the street entry to their section was only 1/2 a mile. We thought, nice walk on the beach, nope! more like a mile (I was advised that it's approx 3/4 of a mile) and a lot of traffic! Thank goodness for a local mobbing his Jeep gave us a ride to the site. The lady at the office Told us it was $20 for shuttle transport from the street entry to their site... Not true, the shuttle ride was free! When you check In through yelp they waive the fuel fee, so We checked in and she still charged us the fuel fee when she wasn't suppose too. She told me the guys on the beach would take care of the fuel fee. Nope they told us it was the office who handled that, which makes sense because the beach doesn't handle the transaction. When we went back to the office at the end of our tour they refunded us that fee with no hassle. When we got out to the guys at the site, they took care of us, gave us better info, great customer service, held our waters and some personal items, let us sit in the SUV while we waited for the return shuttle and gave us the free ride back to our vehicle. Good save guys! Girls- 0 Guys- 1 Otherwise great experience out there on the dunes! The quads rode great! No issues with their equipment! We would do it again, for sure! Oh take the goggle and Wear a long sleeve no matter how hot it is... That sand starts to sting after an hour of riding. read more

Wat a lovely experience!! That was our first time riding ATV. We booked two separate ATVs for me and my wife. My wife was having hard time riding it so we went back to request for two seeter, I remember it was John I talked to. Since it was there closing time so they didn't have anything available immediately but after few more requests John tried hard and arranged one 2seeter with the help of Paul. Paul has good sense of humor. He gave us a quick demo of the vehicle and then we were on our way to one of the best adventures ever. Paul rescued us also once in sand dune. Loved this place! In the past I HATED ATV's. My first experience was in Mexico on my honeymoon and I almost fell off the trail. This company was amazing! The woman behind the counter could size us up for helmets without a blink. We drove onto the beach and parked for only $5 - I highly recommend it. The instructor was awesome, he gave us a quick overview and made sure we were able to get any questions answered. My hubby was able to go ride the dunes while I played around on the "bunny dunes" which were very comfortable for me. Not as bad place to rent ATV's, the staff was helpful and the one dude that gave us a ride out to the beach was super friendly. We came out as a group of 5 on a monday afternoon, was expecting it to be dead but there were still people on the dunes. Very open area to roam around, probably like a 3-5 mile stretch, and awesome views. The speed limit says 15 MPH, but honestly once you get out far enough you can do whatever you want. Just watch out for the white trucks and white suburbans, because those are the guys who will write you a ticket. Two hours was all we needed for ATVing, anymore than that it will be to much. Plus there's a $5 off for gas when you check in on yelp! Once you get to the beach there's a free shuttle that takes you to your ATV site. The driver gave us some tips when were out in the sand dunes. Two hours went by quick esp when you get stuck on the hills and trying to get out of it! Fun time. read more

This was a great experience for my first time ATVing! First, you pick up your helmets and then they drive you to a designated sandy area by the beach. The farther you go, the crazier the dunes become. Everything becomes monochromatic, so be careful with sudden drop offs and dune buggies flying out of nowhere. read more
