I think it was as much for the nostalgic vibe and grits, not a standard west coast menu option, than being unusual or oustanding though the 2 thin cut, nicely seasoned Pork chops and sunny eggs obviously performed nicely :D. Bologna also an option for meat, never seen that before! My 2 turkey sausage, came out as patties and tasted like pork, tasty but unsure haha and wasn't up for challenging, just trying to be somewhat healthier, hence poached eggs. Opted for biscuit and gravy tho...yah not healthy but its the South y@ll ;) and toast at roadsides are typically shelf cotton without much toothy whole grain anyway and Smuckers and Heinz jams served. Coffee and tea were sysco type staples, warm and fine. BJs was a great stop would of liked to use the outdoor booths for Covid. We spread out into the 2nd dining room to limit contact in busier main room, as they said no service to the booths unsure why...maybe short on staff but 2 servers, 2 helpers, a checker and its outside a door? I drove to BJ's today to have the Chicken spaghetti. Upon receiving my meal, I realized there was no chicken in the "chicken spaghetti". I pointed this disappointing issue out to the waitress. She looked at me and another waitress with a confused look. The other waitress stated she had received comments and complaints regarding the same dish. The waitress did not say she was sorry nor did she offer to comp the meal or reduce the price. I then spoke with the owner, who was at the cash register. She too appeared confused but was clearly not concerned about my issues and disappointment with the meal. This place is a true dump. The stools and chairs are falling apart and the cafe has not been updated in many years. NEVER AGAIN! read more

Ok. So if you've found this place and aren't a local- congrats. You'll find the place filled with wonderful, warm hearted and smiling veterans and others in their golden years. Each eating some simple- yet delicious- plate of home style cooking. Don't expect avocado toast or quinoa!! Most diners don't even look at the menu because the servers already know what they want. If you are making the trip here, order anything you like. But I do recommend striking up a conversation with the group of seven 80 yr old men at the adjacent table. I ordered the lunch plate special with 3 sides: chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with gravy, fried squash, and cucumber salad. I had so much food for 2 meals! This place is out of the way and when we drove in we weren't sure directions were correct! Then we saw a lot of cars at the back. It is a long building with at least 3 dining areas and it was packed for lunch! We were able to get a table and the food was great! I had the catfish sandwich (minus the bun) with fried okra, so very good! Very basic decor, looks like it had been there a long time. Would definitely go back! read more

The food was good. We went in about an hour before they closed and it was busy, but no waiting. The service was good and I could tell that they had several regular customers because of the greetings that were being exchanged among people. The prices were about right for the times we are living in. I enjoyed the chicken fried stake, onion rings and cajun fries. But the gravy (served in a small separate bowl) was not the least bit warm. I felt that most of the food could have been warmer, but this could have just been my own tastes involved with that issue. Do I recommend it, yes. It certainly was better and easier than my cooking. Finally had a chance to pop in here for some breakfast with the fam bam. Little local neighborhood cafe, tucked away in a very random part of town and area. I ordered the biscuit and gravy with a side of bacon. The biscuit was great, the bacon was delicious-nice and salty. I thought the gravy was bland, I've had much better. I would def get the biscuit by itself next time and pair it with butter and jelly. I still ate the entire thing, no reason to waste food! My husband is so annoyed that I didn't love the gravy, he said it was very good! (He needs to write his own reviews) Hunie got the fried pork chop plate. The breading with delicious. The pork cut had tons of fat but it had some good meaty parts too. Our two year old loved eating off our plates and we ordered him a side of toast and 1 scrambled egg. Their pies here are really the standouts. We have had the egg custard and pb pies. Our Waitress was nice, she was very kind to our little one and was sincere when she realized we didn't get a side of our hash browns. If I could give zero starts I would. I asked for my catfish to be extra crispy & I told her it was a texture thing. Then I ordered from the normal menu. I pointed out that she had over charged me. She took it to woman that was standing at the register & she said that it wasn't part of the special I explained to her I didn't order of the special. So really truly it isn't a special when your charging extra. I will stick with my normal catfish place. read more

Love this place and try to go every Saturday. So far, I have greatly enjoyed every dish from the specials, excluding the lasagna. It was alright, but the overwhelming flavor was bell pepper. The homemade sausage is delicious, choose that over the regular sausage. If we sleep in and go for lunch, the hamburger steak or fried pork chops are always a fave. The open face is my favorite, but hard to catch. I don't eat seafood, but my husband does and he says the hush puppy shrimp is excellent. He also enjoys the catfish. The homemade pies are fantastic, and I particularly enjoy the coconut. Definitely ask for some rolls before or with your meal. You won't be disappointed. Then, check out the fresh produce next door. I visited BJ's Market Cafe for my second visit today. I'm really waffling whether to give it 4 or 5 stars because it is really good food, yet I can't say it's "as good as it gets." My first visit here a couple of months ago was for lunch. Lunch was excellent; their chicken and dumplins were the best I've had at a restaurant, and the sides were awesome, too. The only negative about that experience was that I wasn't completely satisfied with the portion size. Granted, I'm a big guy and I eat a lot, so maybe the lunch portion was adequate for a normal person, but I just thought the portions were smaller than a similarly priced portion at CrackerBarrel. My second visit this morning was for breakfast, and it was excellent as well. I had their extraordinary sausage, which were nice, big patties perfectly cooked and just a tad spicy. The eggs were good, and the hash browns were better than average. I was craving biscuits and gravy, which led to my only disappointment. Although the gravy was good, it was served cold, which was kind of a bummer. The restaurant itself is quaint and non-pretentious. It's time to upgrade their dinnerware, though, as they serve their meals on those cheap, flimsy plastic platters that Bonanza used for their Freshtastics Food Bars in the 80s. Still, this is ALMOST a 5 star experience, and I'll definitely go back soon. read more
