I did my research and prep before coming here. I had it all planned out and knew I was about to spend a ton of money. I was out of several things and wanted to stock up on a few as well to not have to do another run for a while. Came in here, ran up and down each aisle, grabbing everything I had on my list and then some. Some things were impulsive, others where necessities. I had that cart packed full. Top, bottom, and even the seats. What I love about this store is the app. As I went up and down the aisles, I could scan to add it to the app so I could checkout faster. Any time you scan an item, and if you have not already clipped a coupon, it would pop up to let me know there was one available. Saving me money on that grand total. I felt like I was on a game show. Best part, when I was finished, I could pay and go out the front door. Well, kind of. This is where things went off the rails. I got in line to exit. I was the next person in line and the lady in front of me was having a moment. Wanting every item checked off her receipt. A line was starting to form behind me. This lady was still going through her whole receipt. Then it felt like there was going to be a savior for us all that were standing in this line for up to ten minutes. Another employee showed up to help clear the exits. But...remember how I scanned and checked out on the app? Yeah, well, this other employee told us that if you paid that way you had to continue to stand behind this lady. For real, I have been here for ten minutes. I seriously contemplated just walking out the door without having my receipt checked. If I stood in that line for that long waiting for a deranged lady have her whole cart scanned, I think you can bet I paid for everything in my cart. When that lady was finally cleared out, the employee working the 'app line' was able to clear the rest of us. All he had to do was scan the code on our phone and then a few items in the cart. Why couldn't the other employee just take the scanner and do that to get the people who were waiting out the door? read more

BJ's wholesale club is a great place to shop for both everyday items and bulk savings. The store is well organized, clean, and usually well stocked with groceries, electronics and seasonal items. Today I saw Christmas merchandise already. I usually get meat from here and it's always tender. I think the membership price is worth it. read more

This is not one of my favorite BJ's that I've been to. I didn't find several home goods things I was looking for, which is perhaps understandable given that the weather is terrible and there may be rushes on items and/or shipping delays. I'm also not a huge fan of the fact that this location has a gas station, but it is a couple of miles from the main store. I still managed to find some decent options, and didn't encounter a ton of delays at checkout or getting gas, which is a plus. read more

It reminds me very much of Sam's, smaller warehouse than the big C but has a little more selection and variety of goods. The staff here are good, fast easy check outs and always well kept and organized. The parking lot is much better as the gas station is in a completely different location at dobbin center. Overall I like this place and will stop by for certain things I can't find elsewhere. read more

I love BJ's, I just don't like the customer service at the BJ's in Owings Mills MD, so I ordered online and picked up at the bJ's in Columbia. I signed up with BJ Warehouse mainly to purchase gas, but shop for groceries every now and then. Recently, I was looking for an item which they don't carry. My friend told me Costco has what I'm looking for. So, I signed up with them. Oh man, what a huge difference between these 2 stores. Their (Costco) meats, seafood, bakery, fruits, and produce is way above what BJ Warehouse lacks. Not only that but the food stand is awesome (excellent pizza btw). On weekdays, BJ Warehouse is like a morgue inside, while Costco is always packed!!!! I do alot of groceries shopping at Costco and completely stopped grocery shopping at BJ. I'm wondering if BJ upper management is aware how advanced Costco is from them. read more

I have been a BJ Warehouse in the Columbia store for many years. I used to buy some groceries and home products in the past. Last year, I decided to become a Costco member only because they sold a particular item that BJ Warehouse does not carry. I was immediately impressed with what they sell there. They have awesome of selection of seafood (fresh fish, lobster tail, etcc), meats (so many variety of steak), fresh vegetables, and different varieties of fruits. On the other hand, BJ Warehouse offer a tiny fraction of what Costco carries. Oh yeah, their foodcourt is awesome (pretty good pizza). The Costco store is so lively in contrast of BJ Warehouse, which is so empty on weekdays. These days, I purchase groceries strictly from Costco and have not been inside BJ Warehouse for anything. Sadly, BJ Warehouse is becoming the KMArt and Sears of the past. read more

I love shopping here. They have great deals and the store is never crowded. It's full of product spaciously laid out in a comfortable setting. I really started coming here to get the deal on Vegan Violife cheese, and cream cheese to keep up with my keto lifestyle, but I stayed for all the rest of the goodness in the store. I think yes but this store is great for cleaning, packaged goods, dairy and personal care items. Better selection in dairy and eggs too. A much calmer experience than Costco which some of us enjoy. If I could give 0 stars I would. We tried to order something from the deli. There were 2 women working behind the counter serving 2 customers ahead of us. As the finished with them there was no acknowledgement of us. Each of the deli workers went about doing other things and completely ignored us! I finally said , "that's it, I'm not waiting any more". Again, crickets both verbally and non-verbally. They actually seemed happy we walked away! This is not the first time we've experienced this horrible customer service! I've had the BJ's and Costco (even when Costco was called Price Club) since the early 90's. Why do I keep both? Well, BJ's offer things that Costco doesn't. Is it enough for me to keep both? Not really. But having both for over 30 years is a tough habit to break. BJ's have always been kind of the ugly stepsister in this relationship. I am not sure why that is but the store always seem a little less... a little less clean, a little less quality, a little less service (management), a little less of pretty much everything. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot to like there as well. They have quirky items that you won't find at Costco and at great prices. They have their own coupons and then you can also add manufacture's coupon on time of it (I don't know if they still do that since I have not done that in decades). They also have great grinder rolls. Having eaten Amoroso bread in Philadelphia during my college years, I know a good hoagie roll. Nothing and I mean nothing in MD compares but the BJ's grinder rolls are an acceptable replacement. They also have a deli counter which Costco doesn't have and it comes in handy once in awhile. And their meat used to be a lot cheaper and they cut to order many things like the Beef short ribs cut Korean galbi style. I used to get 50 lbs of it at a time there. Just called the meat department and told them how I want it cut and how much and when I arrive, they have it ready. Now the service, I go there enough times to interact with a lot of workers there. Most of them are great and helpful. But every time I had to talk to the manager about a price discrepancy or something, he would always have an attitude or a snarky comment. One time I purchased an item and a week later, it was $10 less. Of course I didn't have the receipt since I wasn't thinking of returning it. So I asked the manager if I can get the difference. He told me I needed the receipt. I asked if they can look up the purchase on their system like Costco does and give the refund. His reply pissed me off when he said "This isn't Costco" and something to the effect of I doubt they do that there. No shit Sherlock! I shopped at both places for over 30 years! I know each store intimately! You can say you are not Costco without being an AHole. That was the final straw... almost. In all my years, I've only interacted with the BJ's manager perhaps 3 times. 2 of 3 were not good. I decided I wasn't going to renew the membership after last year but they went ahead and did something. They implemented a self checkout on their app which is incredibly cool and a time saver. I used it once and it worked great. The person at the exit rescans everything to make sure it was paid as you exit but it is still a great time saver. Now this may cause a delay in exiting if it was busy but when I did it, it was not a problem. So I will see how this year goes. BTW, when I say Costco's service with manager is better, this is what I mean. I once purchased an item only for it to go on sale a week or two later, As always, Costco is packed. There is a massive line to go out the store. So as I was waiting, I saw one of the managers and I asked him about the price difference in my previous purchase and if I needed to comeback for the difference. I can't remember which location this Costco was but he had a small workstation nearby away from the usual customer service counters and he just asked for my card, looked up the item and gave me my refund right there and there. Needless to say, I was impressed. read more

I have been a member of BJ's wholesale club since the early 1990s! We absolutely love it. They have everything we need and at great prices. Over the decades this stuff has changed some, but the quality of service has always been great. Just like any other grocery store, it can get very crowded and busy on the weekends or before a holiday. However, if you go with that in mind you will be fine. I cannot recall a time when we have found that an item we needed was out of stock. Even at the height of the pandemic we were always able to find toilet paper or disinfectant wipes. It might not have always been our preferred brand, but they worked hard to keep The shelves stocked. They have done a great job ensuring that safety protocols are in place and enforced. If you are looking for a club membership I highly recommend BJ's wholesale! They have a huge selection and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. read more

Check your receipt before you leave the store! I bought a cordless phone system and they slammed a protection service on it that I did not request. I found out when I got home so I called the store. Bob in customer service said I had to drive the 20 mile round trip to get the refund put back on my card. The door checker only detains you to keep you from stealing, not the store stealing from you! read more

I try to go here weekly since we are in this virus situation. I didn't have to wait but not much meat there and there is a limit on fresh meat, 1 of each pork, beef, chicken. There was no chicken, very little pork and some larger brisket and steaks, no hamburger. Very little flour and no yeast. Dairy was empty and so was vegetable area. Spices were almost empty too. Everyone was pleasant and staff helpful. No line to get in and fast line to check out. They put you in one line and a staff person directs each cart to where to go and at the right time. Overall, not such a successful visit. But they get a 4 because they are just over loaded with customers and run out fast. It's a day of roulette whether you get things on your list. I only purchased 1 item here - Charmin's - 18 roll - Ultra Strong. I figured having 18 rolls of T-Paper was going to last me a looooong time. The person I was with had the membership so I was just tagging along. They got about 5 to 10 items total, but our visit to the store didn't take long. Reason: A few times we asked the employees here on where to find certain things and each showed us or pointed in the right place and we found what we were looking for. They were so helpful and always had a smile on their face. Customer Service goes a long way. read more

What the heck is going on? I put in an online order at BJs in Columbia MD yesterday. In store pickup items was scheduled to be ready between today 12 and 1pm. Two hours later I hadn't gotten a notification. So I called and after holding for 10 minutes got through. Ultimately, the store rep said my order wasn't there so they told me to call corporate. The automated message said my order was at the store. Now I am on hold for another 20 minute listening to crappy hold music. In the BJs app, it shows my order of 17 items for 248.00. And one item, a box of tomatoes was "shipped" which is really weird. I'm thoroughly confused and aggravated as I wait on hold with corporate. Also, I don't have access to 248 dollars in my checking account until this gets resolved!!!!!! read more

30 mins still waiting in line at membership services just to pick up a membership card. The line is out the door and they only have 2 people at the counter. One counter has a person there the entire 30 mins. On average it looks like its taking them 25 instead per customer. They have no concern that the line keeps growing and growing. WTH BJs. Does customer service exist in this place? Thank goodness its not me getting a membership. I WILL STIICK WITH COSTCO !!! I dont understand why it's taking so long for each customer. Its almost like being at the MVD during leak hours. The store will close by the time we get to that counter. This is so so so so sad. I thought during the time of COVID you would work to get customers in and out expeditiously... But you prefer to backup customers in ridiculous long lines for no reason. BJs Warehouse, Columbia Maryland Tire Center, October 2022. Big appreciation for the tire center at Columbia who ordered tires however Goodyear failed to supply them. I waited a couple weeks, after no shipment the team helped me with another brand- BFGoodrich, and got me on the schedule right away! They also apologized and were sincere to provide great service. Being polite and patient on the phone is also a huge plus! I needed help with my account. I went to the service desk to inquire if they could help. I gave them my card and explained that I used to be enrolled under my wife's plan. Apparently family members of the same plan don't carry over to renewals. But this wasn't the explanation I received. The man behind the service desk gave a terse response "you're not in our system." I asked him to explain. He seemed very annoyed at the question. He replied "your name doesn't show up in our system." Then he stayed quiet. I had to pull some teeth to get the answers that he should have provided as a complete response in context. I asked him if he saw my wife account, and if he checked for an account in my name, and if his response was indicative that my name appeared in neither location, at least as active. He responded affirmatively. But I shouldn't have had to ask. I politely asked what my options were to resolve the situation. He tried to upsell me to purchase my own membership for $55. WHAT!? Right there was when I lost it. I explained his insolence to his manager. How he was terse, condescending, disrespectful, and had the wrong tone. I was forced to struggle through the conversation to get answers that should have been offered as a customer with this specific problem, and the available solution space. The manager offered me, as a one time courtesy, to allow me to make purchases under my wife's account. That was nice. But I refused, on principal, because I believe in consequences when the customer support breaks down. As I was walking out, with my young son, the man behind the service desk stared my son down as we were walking out. He continues to try to intimidate my son the entire time until we actually left the store and this his field of vision. I couldn't believe it. There was a grown man, an employee representing BJ's, continuing to stare down my son. A grown man trying to prove his manhood by inflicting emotional distress on a child. That's abusive. If you want difficult employees and your family abused, this is the BJ's for you. Have fun. I went to the Costco that is a mile or two away. They're busier, but I've never encountered poor behavior by the staff there. There's a reason why BJ's is empty compared to Costco. read more

I got an sale email, $50 off a TV I needed anyway. I placed the order online, selected the day/time for an in-store p/u, my pymt. goes through. I'm all set. 1 hr later, I get an email that the item is now not available and the order's been canceled. Nothing else. How about when it might be back in stock, or whether it's available at another store, or if I'll still get the sale price if I decide to wait for the backorder. So I spend the next hr calling three diff cust. serv. #s, nobody can give me any answers. So how does the consumer deal with poor cust. serv.? I googled the model# and found 4 other sales for the same TV, same price, and ordered it from Best Buy. BJ's lost my $170 sale simply through ineptitude. Is that gonna make or break them? Sure, if enough customers get that same lousy treatment. read more

The absolute worst customer service. I called for an issue with my same day delivery and customer service canceled my same delivery service which I paid for one year unlimited!! Not only did they cancel it on their own, I've called back numerous times, how many hours with them to get this rectified... and do you know what they said? That I was already refunded and to pay for it again (no, I was not refunded). I called again and they said no it was canceled WITHOUT a refund. What liars! So now I have to wait for a refund (if I get any) and then buy it again (but they wanted me to buy the service again without refund--how ridiculous). Again, over a month of this back and forth with no sympathy or assistance from their end on their own mistake. Worst customer service!! read more

Had a poor shopping experience on the evening of 7/17/19. I came to BJ's to pick up two items from the bakery. While selecting the baked good I wished to purchase, a BJ's employee, identified by the red vest and name badge, stopped me and asked me if I needed my house updated. I said no and that I was not interested. He continued until I walked away. I came to BJ's to buy a few items. I did not want to replace my windows or siding. This was a very poor shopping experience for me and I will let my membership lasp and will not be returning. read more

I went here solely for the optical department. I broke my glasses and needed a new pair - INSTEAD I GOT THREE!! Rene was wonderful! She was professional even when an angry customer came in demanding to be seen. She isn't raise her voice, instead asked me if it was okay to assist them. Wow this was so disappointing. I received a voucher for a free 60 day membership. Came here to activate and was told that I would have to pay the extra "non-member" 15% fee with every purchase. That didnt make sense based on the fact that my voucher was for a free MEMBERSHIP; therefore I would be a member by definition. The employee actually had the nerve to say that the voucher was just a way to "get people in" and that it wasn't "really" for a membership. What?!? We went to browse in case we did want to ultimately purchase a membership (and not pay the extra 15%) and their selection was less than Costco and overall the store seemed more dirty and less organized. Either way honestly my opinion was so skewed by how poorly we were treated at customer service. Having someone tell you to your face that they are scamming you just doesn't make sense or feel very good. Will be staying with Costco! read more

Well stocked store in a convenient location. I'd a one day pass and was looking forward to becoming a member. Poor service! Virginia in Member services was inexplicably rude. I was in line (with 2 young children) waiting my turn while she attended to a customer. When she was done, I thought she'd assist me, instead she began chatting on the phone without even acknowledging me (and I'd been waiting 10 minutes already.) After a few more minutes, I asked her whether I should come back after she was done and she did not respond. During that time another customer approached the line waited a bit and left again without any kind of acknowledgement from Virginia. I will not be returning due to Virginia's poor service. I received a promotional coupon in the mail to get a one year membership for $25 and I jumped on the opportunity. I have previously been a member, but a few years back decided to get a Costco membership with a good friend. So, I've been going to Costco for the past 3 years. My parents, however, have a BJ's membership, so I am quite familiar with the store. I rarely go full blown shopping at these places, mainly toilet paper, paper towels and laundry detergent. But, I recently decided to start buying more items in bulk, especially since I had my new BJ's membership! Who doesn't need a 5lb jar of mayonnaise, right? Plus, I received a great packet of coupons in the mail from BJ's and I was able to get a pretty good amount of household and frozen food items for about $100 using about 6-7 coupons. And, this stuff will last a while. In terms of how they compare to Costco, Costco automatically deducts monthly specials, whereas BJ's you have to have the paper coupons from the booklet. However, BJ's accepts manufacturer's coupons (in addition to their store coupons) AND they accept credit cards. Costco does not. BJ's does not require you to show your membership card upon entrance, Costco does. Also, I hear Costco's food stand is better! lol, I haven't tried it personally, but that's what the streets are saying :) Overall, I had a great experience. Everything I needed was in stock. Lines were not ridiculously long for a late Saturday morning and the cashier was very nice. I think if you've been to a wholesale club, your experience will pretty much be the same with minimal variation depending on location. Oh, and don't forget to try the free samples! ;) read more
