ROCO - So happy you're here!
    Joseph L.

ROCO Kitchen + Coffee is a spankin' new addition to Hickory Ridge Shopping Center--and honestly, it's exactly what this area needed. The space is clean, modern, and really well done. The barista station stands out right away--you can tell they're serious about coffee. It's the kind of place that feels fresh but still comfortable enough to hang out in. Coffee-wise, the basics were solid and enjoyable. My daughter reported that the cappuccino was a bit off--but totally understandable for a new spot still finding their feet. The foundation is clearly there. Food was simple and on point. I ordered the Migas--not overly complicated, just well-executed and tasty. The menu overall is streamlined, which makes ordering easy without being overwhelming. Prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality and location. Staff members - all friendly and welcoming. This place is off to a strong start, and we're genuinely stoked to have it in the neighborhood. We'll definitely be back.

As I cafe hopper, I encourage you to try out this new spot. They've hired several staff that are literally waiting for YOU. I was between meals, so I tried the yogurt and it was refreshing. The prices are moderate, my yogurt and drink cost $15. Their bathrooms are gender neutral and the restaurant is bright and clean. Headphones would have helped my focus. Though the staff was pretty quiet, they enjoy working together and it showed. I became distracted, ugh, my work avoidance. I do plan to return.

This new coffee shop in hickory ridge is definitely worth checking out. They have a sit down service side and a quick order counter. Plenty of nice outdoor seating as well. It's a very nice space if you're looking to hang out in a coffee shop. The menu looks basic and the pastry case doesn't look like much, but my latte and donut blew my mind. I think the donut was homemade. It was airy, chewy, and everything you want in a donut. The latte was also good. Just enough foam, smooth espresso, and made well. I wish they had a milk that wasn't whole milk because I do not prefer oat milk, but that's what I got because of the lack of milk options. I can't wait to go back and try more of the food based on the 2 things I tried. The menu is very promising and I can't wait to take my kids to try it.

I saw a few posts in a local foodie facebook group regarding this new business. I had to give it a try especially after seeing those doughnuts! Came in the late afternoon on a Saturday and therefore the doughnuts were sold out, bummer but not their fault. I'm honestly glad to hear they sold out, small businesses need our support. We ordered a two iced mocha latte's. Mine was made with almond milk. Both were perfectly made! The service was amazing with two helpful baristas. I can't wait to give this place another try and I'll be sure to come earlier for the doughnuts.

New coffee and brunch spot in Columbia! I just tried their signature Brown Butter latte after a walk in Centennial Park. I love that they're using a La Marzocco espresso machine and Alma coffee beans. I'll definitely have to check out that coffee brand. I'm excited to come back and sit in. It looks like a great place to grab brunch with family and friends.

The food is consistently exceptional, the drinks are always on point, and the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between lively and welcoming. Whenever friends or family visit from out of town, this is my go-to spot because I know they'll leave impressed. Most recently, I visited for brunch on Saturday and ordered the short rib gnocchi. It was absolutely delicious... rich, flavorful, and incredibly filling. I paired it with the bubbles flight, which featured an assortment of four sparkling wines and was the perfect complement to the meal. Every visit reminds me why I keep coming back. Great food, great drinks, and consistently great experiences. Love this place. Five stars for consistency and great food!

The truffle popcorn was excellent, our child enjoyed the shrimp and fries, and the fresh tuna appetizer was flavorful, although overly sauced. Unfortunately, the scallops with risotto were unacceptable. Both entrees had a strong ammonia-like taste from the first bite, which was immediately noticeable to both of us. We were unable to get much attention from our server due to how busy the restaurant was, but the dishes were left mostly untouched for a reason. For a $40 entrée, we expected much better quality and execution. Sadly, The Food Market did not deliver.

Eggspectation - Merriweather District…read more My first visit to Eggspectation and it made a strong first impression. Located in the ever-growing Merriweather District, parking can be a bit of a mixed bag. There's a nearby surface lot that fills up quickly, but a larger parking garage within easy walking distance that makes things manageable--and a bonus for EV drivers, with multiple charging stations that are available. Just plan ahead, especially on weekends or when events are happening at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The space itself is modern and thoughtfully designed. One side of the dining room features floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light and offers peaceful views of Symphony Woods--a perfect backdrop for a relaxed meal or a little people-watching. There's also a covered outdoor patio that looks especially appealing for warmer days. Service during our lunch visit was excellent. Ethan struck that ideal balance--friendly, attentive, and accommodating without hovering. He handled menu questions with ease and was happy to make a few substitutions without hesitation. A seasonal spring menu is currently available, but the full menu being offered all day is a nice plus. We started with the Ginger Zinger--refreshing with just the right amount of zing. I went with the veggie omelette, customized to my liking, and it delivered: perfectly cooked and packed with fresh mushrooms, spinach, and asparagus. The Lyonnaise potatoes were flavorful, and the lightly dressed salad rounded out the plate nicely. My friends both ordered the Eggspectation breakfast sandwich, stacked high with thick-cut bacon and presented beautifully. Portions across the board were generous--we expected leftovers, but between the good food and even better conversation, most plates were nearly cleared. Prices lean toward the moderately expensive side, but that's fairly standard for this area--and the quality justifies it. If you're looking for a quieter experience, weekdays are your best bet. It's also a great spot to unwind after a walk around the nearby lakes or wooded paths. While there is ongoing construction in the area, the restaurant itself is well insulated from the noise. Overall, a very solid first visit. I'd gladly return to explore more of the menu.

I personally don't like it when restaurants will serve their own take on chicken & waffles and it ends up missing the essence of the dish. That essence of what I look for in the dish is the foundation of the food at T&J Waffles. The chicken is crispy and juicy with great sauce options to go with the meal. The waffles are light, airy, and sweet (but not overly sweet). I tend to frequent T&J Waffles whenever they come as the food truck, so YMMV if you eat at the brick & mortar location. That being said, I don't feel like there's an inherent loss of quality by eating at the food truck. My recommendation is to eat the food as soon as possible. Chicken and waffles to me has a very short shelf-life where the crispiness fades away shortly after. I think the best way to enjoy is to dig pretty much right away. Definitely check out the spot if you enjoy chicken and waffles! Side note: they have other options too that look delicious, but I can't not order the chicken & waffles when I go.

I opened up my Yelp app to see if I had bookmarked anything nearby and T&J's Waffles was the first spot that popped up. I didn't know it was walk up location. I was all prepared to sit at a table and have breakfast, but I was already there and I wasn't leaving without food. My dad and I both ordered the classic breakfast platter. It came with two waffles, probably three eggs (we added cheese so that was extra), 4 slices of bacon, and 2 sausage links, and hash brown. The waffles were such a cute shape and they were delicious. I can't confirm this, but I imagine it's their own special batter. They were very generous with the scrambled eggs and I didn't even have to add salt & pepper. I like that there were two meat options. I just wish my bacon wasn't all stuck together to form one piece. Also, the bacon could've been cooked a little more. It was a little fatty and I like a little more crisp. The star of the show was the hash brown. It definitely seemed like it was homemade. This may have been my first time having a homemade hash brown. I'm not sure what they did to it, but here's my guess. It looks shredded potatoes, mixed with green onion, and maybe some cheese, that was packed like a patty & shallow fried. My goodness, I should've ordered some hashbrowns to go so I could eat them for the rest of the week. The platter was so good, I didn't even mind having to eat it in my car. Lol. It was filling & $16 well spent.

Another interesting moment was when my sister-in-law inquired about the salmon cakes and the waitress told her that most people send it back that it's for a more advanced pallet and it would be safer if she went with a seafood omelette. What if someone has allergies and gets seriously sick? I ended up ordering something else, the Turn House burger, which was good. We also ordered the fish & chips, and that was good too. Overall, the food was okay, but nothing amazing. We ordered two desserts: the brownie sundae and the carrot cake. Honestly, they were the worst desserts I've had in a long time. The carrot cake was dry and tasted sugar-free. The brownie was also dry, and you can't really call it a sundae when it only comes with a tiny scoop of ice cream. Overall, this place just isn't good. There are much better restaurants nearby, so save your time and money and go somewhere else.
