I've been a member on and off for well over 25 years. Unfortunately for every good employee in Ledgewood there is a bad one. They are temperamental and argumentative. The cashier supervisor is nasty and she doesn't deal well with customer issues. Right after scanning my membership card the cashier told me to hold on while he argued about taking his break; there were 3 or 4 customers behind me which were then told he was closed. They have another cashier named Jack which always has an issue with customers. Complaints fall on deaf ears and customers suffer the brunt of these bad unhappy employees. Digital coupons are constantly missed, the cashiers don't wish to check so you have to stand in line at customer service for your refund. There's so much more, make the trip to another location to avoid the glum of Ledgewood BJs. read more

I have shopped here since it opened. Today was the second time the front end cashier "manager" was incredibly rude. We had several items fail to show up at the discounted coupon price at self checkout. No big deal, right? After hitting the button for assistance, this guy comes over and acted offended that we were bothering him to help us. We weren't even upset at this point, it happens. He was confrontational and after fixing the prices, failed to remove an item that he said he would, and abruptly turned around and walked away. My wife asked if the item had been removed and explained that he had just walked away without doing it. This customer service worker's response? " Whatever." We had to go to the customer service counter to have it removed. I'm only writing this out of frustration because the store obviously doesn't care, this guy is still the voice of their company despite several other reviews, and no response to my email a few years ago when the same employee got in our faces about how their free turkeys were out of stock and it was our fault for not picking one up a month early. We shop for a few charity groups that give homeless and needy folks much needed food. Buying in bulk saves us money and this store has lots of affordable food items that stretch the dollars we have to spend. We get juice, granola bars, bottled water and other items we pack in our give away bags. The prices are good and the variety is excellent. Of course, they have lots of other goods like electronics and clothes but that's not our reason for shopping here. Overall, this is a good place to save money by buying in bulk, so give it a try. read more

Worst experience yet!!! Told to use the self check out and had nothing but issues. Every item told me to wait for assistance. A woman comes over and only made things worse. She scanned every item and then counted every item in the cart yet and she missed one thing that the exit lady found and then had to wait as she checked everything else. You have to read the coupons closely. Some are buy two or there to get the sale price. Some of them wouldn't scan. To much for me to write about so I will just say that It was pure hell in this place today. read more

I am writing to report a horrible customer service experience with the BJ's store in Ledgewood, NJ. I pay for the "free" delivery service as I am partially disabled and it's quite difficult for me to shop in-store. I placed an online order for home delivery and was notified by text that BJ's had begun shopping the order at 7:01 PM tonight. At 8:16PM I received another text indicating that BJ's is using Rodie to delivery my order, so I started monitoring my Ring camera to see when they arrived. At 8:37PM, I received the last text stating that my ordered had been delivered but, apparently, not to my address. Hoping that they had delivered it to a neighbor, I proceeded to my car and drove to check and found my order. When I returned home with the order, I found that it was missing two items...some bacon and the free turkey I had earned by spending $150+ in a previous transaction. Even though I had authorized substitutions at the time order, at no time during the shopping process was I contacted to let me know that items were not in stock, nor asked if I wished a substitution. I contacted the store and was advised that I would need to come into the store to repurchase the missing items or place another online delivery. However, because those 2 items would not meet the minumim $60 order, that it wouldn't qualify for the "free" delivery (again, a service for which I paid over $100). As a long time Bj's customer with an annual spend in the thousands/year, I find this completely unacceptable and will not reward that level of customer service. To that end, I will not be renewing my membership and will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Forgot our family membership card to BJ's today. I go to the membership desk and the desk clerk says since you are not on membership you cannot shop and refuses to give me a pass. I helped her find the membership by giving her the address. Think I made it up? BJ's thanks for complete lack of focus or ability to solve your customers problems. We canceled our membership the very next day. Woooooooooowzers! It is so depressing in there. People are more lively in the cemetery. I give it two stars because of Francesa, the lady that helped us with the membership. She was so sweet. There was barely anyone in there. I loved that. They have their Deli & their stuff is always good. That's it. The variety in their products is lacking. The prices are pretty bad in comparison to Sam's club. Sammie's had better prices overall, their coupons are built in to the membership card, no need to go online for coupons or dig into a booklet for them. BJs is EXPENSIVE. Grabbing less than what we usually grab we ended up paying about $75-$100 over at BJ's. Also, this place could use a face lift from the way they got their store set up, down to some of the shoppers. The parking lot is huge and finding a space never seems to be a problem, even around the holidays. The store is kept clean and the staff is always friendly. There is a tire center located on the left side of the building. BJ's has a great coupon policy. They accept manufacturers coupons. If you forget a coupon at home, you can come back with your receipt and they will apply the coupon to your bill. Obviously, it must be within a reasonable amount of time There are self checkout lanes which are convenient but can be a hassle when someone has an issue. All the registers accept Apple Pay which is very convenient. Some items you can get in smaller portions than their competitors which is nice. The crowds don't seem to be as large as Costco which is also nice since you are not waiting an eternity at the register. Overall, a good store if you need bulk items. amazingly frustrating store, although I admit they have stepped up their game since Sams club closed and they apparently have gotten MANY new members they have gotten better, as a direct result Sams did them a very big favor. My biggest complaints are the items that they pretty much have almost all the time, like the cases of 6 gallons of water, I buy 3 cases every 2 weeks and when I go there and they are completely out there is no excuse. There are other issues as when they have a BJ's coupon for something and they don't have it. We actually quit for awhile and went to Sams club mostly for the pharmacy which BJ's does not have. Now we are back, Sams is no more in this area and Costco is too far for convenience. They have perks like taking coupons, so we will hang around for awhile and see if they can at least maintain the 3 strs and go to 4-5. read more

This place has pros and cons. It is not as crowded as Costco. That's a pro. And it's a pretty clean and well stocked store. The cons; however, include the fact that the deli line is a nightmare. Two people took breaks in front of me while there was a line of people - leaving only one employee to work. And people ordering usually are ordering enough cold cuts to feed an elementary school so bring a book to read while you are waiting. There is never enough help here. Trying to order a cake is another nightmare. There is hardly ever anyone there to help. I finally ordered a cake and when I picked it up Matthew was misspelled as Mathew. It was clearly spelled correctly on the paperwork. Luckily someone was able to fix it and then I was given a discount for the error. That helped. The cake was a big hit in the end, though and that's a pro. Another con - checkout. There are usually only two registers with cashiers open. It seems they encourage self checkout, but there's always an issue with the computers when doing so. And then it using coupons you sometimes need an override before you can proceed. This has improved recently, though. Overall, though it is better than the madhouse at Costco. read more

One of the best Bj's in Howard Boulevard in Mount Arlington is this place. Me and my mom are going to this store regularly for the food and everything else in between and always people who work there are very nice. We are extremely pleased with workers who work there and especially very nice lady who is staying by the door and checking you out of the store. There is one lady that I found to be very nice but because I'm bad with names I really can't say her name. Love this store very much there is food department where they cut you meat you wanted on the machine and they are amazing as well I never had any problems in this store and hopefully I will never have a bad experience there. read more

I was impressed how clean and organized they were. When you walking in they have coupons that I found a few things I could use at home and save a few more dollars. The register area was not very busy and check out was a breeze. I had a question about my membership and the lady at the customer service area was very helpful and friendly. I have belonged to this store for many years. I don't go that often these days because they're just that aren't many items that have a great price compared to places in the area like Walmart and the ShopRite On top of the lackluster pricing I had an incident the other day that almost made me cancel my membership on the spot and I will probably just let it lapse next month when it expires I had several items in my shopping cart when I had to stop in the restroom. I was not in there terribly long but when I came out my cart was gone. After running back and forth to the courtesy desk I was pointed to a group of carts for merchandise that had been abandoned in the store and was ready for restocking. All of my items were in those carts I went back and complained to the girl at the courtesy counter who was very annoyed that I was obviously bothering her. She's easy to recognize. She's young girl in her late twenties early thirties with long dark hair and a scowl on her face I asked for assistance reloading my cart including the 40 lb bag of birdseed. I have to add here that I have obvious health issues and regardless of that I did not get more than the minimum assistance I decided that I would pay for my items put them in my car and come back in and cancel my membership. The only thing that kept me from canceling my membership on the spot what's that the check out person at the register and the person at the door we're both exceptionally nice But as I said I will most likely just let my membership lapse next month when it's due to expire anyway. In general I would rather shop at this location as opposed to the Riverdale store even though it is further me to travel (10 min to Riverdale, 25 to Ledgewood). Parking is much easier at this location and the store is generally not as crowded. I also prefer Bj's to Costco as you see recognizable brands here like Land O Lakes, MorningStar, Thumanns etc I felt like Costco everything needed to be Kirkland Signature. Bj's also won me me over because they carried 1) healthier options or 2) reasonable amounts of product. No one ever needs a gallon of mayo, but I'd feel better about saving money and also buying 2 half-gallons packaged together--also freshness factor there. I appreciate that they now carry a line called Earth's Pride? (I think) and most of that line appeared to be either organic, all natural, or as natural as possible depending on the product IE nitrate free bacon. I can't do all my shopping here, I don't feel like their produce is affordable by any means, could be because at the farmer's market everything is priced per lb, whereas at at Bj's it's just bam here's the price. My husband freaked out over some restaurant looking tiny carrots w the little green still on them...for $7 no way when a bag of baby carrots is $2 for double the amount. You have to know what you're looking for for sure. The deli counter is affordable if you don't mind buying their brand which is decent. The meat section is a huge winner in my book--a lot cheaper than the average super market and for sure a better quality product. I always leave with at least one skirt steak. I gave their tire department a chance this weekend. I hate doing anything auto related and generally I feel like I'm getting screwed whenever I do. Bj's tires were competitively priced and they tack on an extra $15 per tire for installation. I spent about $400 but would have done that anywhere plus been pressured into all sort of other services. The guy that took care of me when I dropped the car off was nice, but when I returned I wasn't thrilled with the service. A different guy and a girl were behind the counter complaining about this or that and literally let me stand there for 3-4 minutes while they completely ignored me, wouldn't make eye contact, continued filing their papers, and continued to complain about customers. I realize Bj's probably isn't the job they dreamed of but if they don't get their act together it's probably the best job they will have ever had. I think I need to learn how to get my B*itch on when it comes to situations like these. Anyway after they were done, I got my paperwork and keys and left. Overall I would recommend Bj's over most other wholesalers...good products, decent locations, cheap enough. A yearly membership I think runs around $40-50 plus they take coupons, not just their own but newspaper coupons too. They also accept foodstamps. I love this place and think the meat department is second to none. I like Costco and all, but BJs has a lot of cool stuff. Don't skip the center of the store where they have jeans and pillows and stuff. There's really some good stuff there if you dig in. Some crap too, but hey, different strokes, right. After waiting 5 days and many phone calls for the "promised 2 day delivery" we finally gave up, called BJ's order help line, again but were advised that they "could not cancel our order". So many issues in Only 2 weeks. First, get membership and the girl only signed me up for 3 month trial membership. Caught that the first time I shopped and had it rectified at customer service... a mere 20 minutes of my time. Call BJs,... after lengthy hold time due to high call column, finally speak with a rep who says he has no problem loading my coupons, I explain I tried on mobile device and p.c. to no avail..... ask for supervisor.... hold..............hold.......... 45:33 minutes later..... supervisor gets on. After lengthy conversation, she finds when my trial membership was fixed to the yearly which I paid for, BJs changed my membership number and never told me. No apologies, no compensation, not a $5 coupon .... just the proverbial f$&@ you, and the nicest, "be glad we figured out our mistake" now screw You and the time you have had to put into our incompetence. Hello Costco.... zero hassles for 6+ years... I will stay w yo Update: Worst produce! Had to do to customer service for refund. Bought a set if tires there ,as did my wife. When my wife had a slow leak they told me they could look at it in 4 days. This was for waranty service. I was told they were busy because of a coupon for sale of tires. When I spoke to store manager and expressed displeasure and reluctance to keep going to BJ'S for anything he told me "sorry you feel that way". When I lodged a complaint on there website they called and left a message. I wrote to them complaining that I had to spend money some place else to get something fixed that they waranty. No response. So when my membership expires we are done. Costco is 10 miles farther. read more

Produce is always rotting on the bottom of the package, prices are higher than the local supermarket, cashiers are so slow sometimes that frozen food begins to melt and they will not get you a fresh package. I go here often. Typical wholesale club. Great bakery and fresh meat. Also good deals on basic clothing items, men's polo shirts, jeans, dress pants, socks, etc. Auto Dept has great deals on tires. Selections can vary based on timing. Cashiers are all efficient, but customer help when looking for an item on the floor can be spotty. read more

My husband and I have been customers of BJ's tire center in Ledgewood for years . We are not likely to return after last encounter with that place. It's not the fact that no one notified us when the tires arrived upset me most and not the one that when my husband came to the store to find the status of the tires two employees were watching football on TV . They told him that yeah tires arrived, and "no we cannot install them now, because it will take the whole hour, and we will leave in an hour ". The most upsetting fact is that on the time of the appointment no one showed up. Admittedly, manager was very apologetic. Eventually, my car was fixed.
