Worse than one star I'd rate BJ's zero stars. Please be aware they will continue to charge your card after you've already unsubscribed from auto renew! I had unsubscribed..HUGE SCAM! This Middletown store should be ashamed of how they treat their military customers. Punishing us for moving..."must cancel in store." They then decline to answer the phone repeatedly when called. Disgusting! Editing this to add that they have hung up on me multiple times at the service desk when trying to correct this. My membership is still not canceled. Don't bother trying to get anything accomplished with this store or speaking with their customer service. I will now have to change my VISA since they won't cancel the membership. read more

These club memberships are where it's at when looking to be economical in your grocery shopping when you have kids/ 4+ in your family. Being on a teeeeny tiny little island, there aren't many options unless you want to drive 1.5 hours. So options are limited. When we moved here, we thought we'd keep our Costco membership but oy we were wrong. Two trips to the closest Costco and we caved and joined BJs which is in our back yard. Here's the break down on why I give 3/5: *Location definitely outweighed in this one and they had some of our normal things we liked to get from the big C. *Product availability: usually pretty good. There's always things I can't find and will have to go to shaws for. Things come and go, so always watch if it looks like it's being moved around a lot, there's a good chance it's being phased out. Unfortunately they got rid of my favorite gluten free brownie mix (King Arthur for the WIN!) and didn't seem to care when I asked about it. Actually they told me that it was replaced with another brownie mix which ISNT GLUTEN FREE, so I'm not sure how that even compares. * This brings me to customer service. OMG I SWEAR 75% of the people that work there hate the world. There are at least three ladies in the front end who always have a bad attitude and a scowl on their face. I've been snapped at more times than I can remember and forget being nice to them and striking up conversations- they could care less. There is ONE who is always in a good mood and if she isn't, she doesn't take it out on the customers. In produce, there's one guy who I've heard multiple times say he hates his job- real classy. And the guys that push the carts/ sometimes stock shelves don't pay attention- one almost ran me over as I was exiting today and didn't even care. The greeter at the door even saw it! *Curbside pick up: it's just meh. I've had good experiences, and I've had experiences where I had to come in to get my order because no one ever came out. Otherwise, there are generally good sales and some great products carried here. The hours are great- I love that I can get in at 8am if I'm pressed for time on my way to work. read more

This is for the tire store specifically: I actually started off having a few great experiences with Nathan helping me out and being friendly as well. The problem that I need to share is when my man went to the scheduled appointment with the car, paid ahead of time for two tires...then he waited, and waited and waited. He actually waited for nearly an hour before being told that they did not have the tires in stock. Not at any time did the person helping apologize. My other half asked the person what needed to be done. He was told that he/we could order the tires- on our own- and then schedule another appointment with them to place them. I have never heard of this before, but nevertheless- the next step was to void the payment. NO OTHER CHARGE was taken through the credit card machine... the person was unable to void the charge, he said that he didn't know how. Another man named mark came up to help and also said that he could not help. So Daniel had to go to the main customer service desk and they also said that they were not sure if they knew what to do. I decided to go back this morning to find out who helped/didn't really help yesterday. I had to wait for 12 minutes before Mark came to the front. I asked exactly who was working yesterday and was told that it was a man named Nick. I explained to mark that we were not at all happy with the service/lack of service from the day before and I was basically given excuses Again no apology or ownership whatsoever for anything that happened. We would have been willing to take another chance if they would have at least owned the mistake- no chance- There is a reason why this place is always empty. I've experienced racism numerous times while shopping at this store. Today I was told that self check out shouldn't be used if you have more than twenty items. I totally understood that but another young lady walked up with more than twenty items in her cart and nothing was said to her. On top of that someone came and watched me check out the whole time and left the area after i checked out. But didn't return when other people approached the check out area. I come and spend my money like everyone else there shouldn't be a difference in treatment due to someone skin color. read more

I needed my tire pressure monitors checked in order to pass inspection next month. Mark, and his crew in the Tire Shop took excellent care of my car. The cost was very reasonable, and they were very quick. I would go back there for my next tire purchase. read more

My wife was told it would be 36 minutes before the rotisserie chicken would come out. She decided to wait and it was well over an hour. This is totally unacceptable. If she had been told upfront the actual wait time she would not have waited. read more

Its not as large as SAMS but clean and a good deal. They have good tire deals too. Sometimes they seem to be short staffed and long lines.

This particular BJ's is a smaller store, without a deli or gas station but it makes up for it with friendly employees and service and plenty of free samples Wednesdays through Sundays. I haven't used the tire department myself, but have heard many good things about it and how excellent the employees are. Store is rarely as busy as the larger stores, but has almost all of the same items in stock. Meat, bakery and produce departments are all well stocked and employees are friendly and helpful. Cashiers and Member service are great and the line at the door is always fast as well. The store itself is always neat and clean, same with the restrooms. Worth a membership if you don't mind buying in bulk, means you don't have to shop as often either! read more

Hi friends. in particular it is my favorite store after walmart and I only have one complaint and it is the following, on many occasions I have to search thoroughly in the cold cut area since they are repeatedly expired so take into account the other grocery products so far no news. and the employees all very friendly. and excellent cleanliness in general. parking need more illumination. I think it's really gross when we get drive up service and the guy who brings us out groceries throws the food in and one of those things being 2 huge things of chicken. Not only were these things of Chicken not put in bags, they were covered in chicken goo! So now there is salmonella goo all over my trunk on us and on the other food! F*#king gross. read more

This is the only wholesale club that I know of within Aquidneck island and it does a good job of offering items in bulk and at a relatively bargain price! As with other wholesalers, this club requires a membership to shop at. Large selections of TVs greet the customers as they walk through along with aisles of everyday items in bulk. This particular location offers clothes as a recent new addition, tires, optical, and meat counter. Their seafood offerings are quite limited and they do not have an actual deli counter like some locations do. Other offerings includes your typical bulk candy, household items, snacks, frozen foods, bakery items, and seasonal items. This place would be ideal for large families that goes through food and household items quickly. A definite one shop shop to buy all that you will ever need. Also great for purchasing items in large quantities for BBQs! When I worked here in high school, the club is always packed around holidays (think July 4th and Memorial Day). Although it is a wholesale club, not everything comes in bulk. You can still buy a single watermelon or a bunch of bananas. If they had a BJs gas around here, it would be perfect! read more

Immediate ONE star!! A BJ's this small with a tiny "bakery" section should be able to keep the flies at bay; not just one fly but tons of fruit flies and a big housefly in the bagel bin. I opened the lid to let them out and decided not to get their bagels. There were no customer service persons around to notify, so I made my self checkout purchase and walked out. read more

Update: Wife needed new glasses. Went shopping everywhere else you an think of and this year's fashion for frames is 1960's librarian curves where you look like a "Grease" extra. While checking out here, wife went and looked at the frames, a lot of nice brand name frame, and found a pair she liked. Super awesome customer service, and usually I expect to pay $300-$400 for her glasses based on her tastes. We walked away with ~$150 bill for a new pair, excellent service and that pretty much makes the membership worth it for the year plus some. ------------- Original Review: If you are expecting a big whole sale club on the small island in RI, you will be disappointed and left driving 30-45 minutes. If you are looking for a smaller outlet of a whole sale club (BJ's, COSTCO, Sam's) that has a decent amount of products, this is really your only choice in the area. I have always liked whole sale clubs, especially after I move, and since I recently got to the area, I definitely joined BJ's since it was the only game in town. Typically, whole sale markets have huge fresh food areas with a large deli, large bakery section, huge meat department, and enough food to feed any army. This one lacks the deli, butcher, and huge bakery, but still has a good assortment of all your normal refrigerated and frozen goods to scratch any itch. I really like the prices on the beef shoulder and pork loin since I usually slice the meat myself when I cook. The rest of the store has a decent selection but you can definitely tell you are in a more rural area as you look around. No attached gas station, no little food shop attached, and samples are only one or two stations at a max. But, when you are on a small island with a bridge to it, and the next best thing is 45 minutes away, you go with what you got. That is what you have here. A lot of reviewers comment on flies, I have never seen one in the store, I have always had friendly service, and the parking is usually pretty open. This BJ's is on another planet. The produce is terrible. The meat has the fat on the bottom, adding non eatable weight, and the prices are more then the BJ's in NH. There are a couple of nice folks who work there, but all and all, I will go back to making the drive to Costco. read more

As stated went to the store two. Days ago. Mathew from Johnston verified they had some ice tea by Wellsley. Got to the store only one manager on duty. She was more intersted in convincing a Syrian gentlemen that he needed to upgrade his membersip than to help me literally waited over 25 min for help hortible atmosphere spoiled woman manager. Usually, the husband and I prefer Costco over BJs but since the nearest Costco is about 45 minutes away...decided on getting on getting a membership here instead of Costco since it has most of the things we usually pick up for the same price we would get at Costco anyway (and saves us a 45 minute trip). I'm only giving it one star because I had to give one, today I went into my local bjs in Middletown RI, I was waiting in line for the door person to check my receipt. Well in front of me were 2 black males, one gentleman had 3 items in his hand and his friend stood next to him with nothing in his hands just his backpack on, the door man tells the other gentleman after already checking his receipt that he needed to look in his book bag! I was floored! Here he is just standing next to his friend , so the man let him look in the backpack! I immediately asked why would you look in his backpack unless you seen him conceal or steal anything? He proceeded to tell me it was club policy! Well I had a backpack for a purse today! And I asked him if he was gonna look in my backpack!, the man said nothing! I left very upset ! I called for the store manager and was told his name Justin and he advised me that it is club policy to check bags, ok, but why did the black mans bag get checked and not mines? Justin proceeded to tell me that if it's my personal bag they won't search it, so I said that gentleman was standing next to his friend with his personal backpack on! Justin again said store policy! Very sad BJ's. Is it even a BJ's without a gas station? I drove here expecting to fill up but there is none so there's that. And then as you walk inside, it is very small. The small selection of bulk items is sad because I was expecting to find more school supplies like locker shelves or a bigger selection in lactaid-free milk or similar items to Trader Joe's but there is none. This BJ's location is much smaller than most locations in the fact that they don't have a section for clothes or a massive seafood section but I think this BJ's is a perfect sized store for Aquidneck Island residents. I really like coming in here for exactly that reason: small, easily manageable, clean aisles, and the lines are never long so you can usually pick up what you need with ease. I've found many of the associates are very friendly and helpful here too and will often recognize and greet you, which is also nice. This BJ's is a great wholesale club to be a member of to get those bigger items you need in bulk for sure! read more

Over the years I feel like the quality of produce here has been going down. The employees are nice, helpful, will even remember what coupons are in the book and pull one out for you, over all very patient and it's usually not to hard to find someone around if you have a question. Compared to BJ's in other states this one is much smaller but for the most part still has all of the essentials! The parking lot is a little difficult at times, twice I have almost been hit by people not looking while they back out of a parking spot. Don't forget to pack bags in your car to move your items into so bringing everything into your home is a little easier read more
