This one is a hard one to write. We got there the place is nice very small and only 6 tables inside. When we placed our order their were a number of food items they were out of. We placed our oder it came out I asked for ketchup for my potatoes and was told they were out of ketchup. Lol The food was good as we were finishing eat out waiter came to our table and asked us if we would like to try a dish they made by mistake. He said we would rather have a customer have it and try than to throw it away. We (my wife and I said yes would love to) a few minutes later our poor wader came back and said. The owner said if we want it we will pay full price. He was so embarrassed. We told him no thank you then. So you hear the guy in the back say okay throw it out. Lol. Not sure how I felt about that. I ordered a caramel macchiato and Belgian waffle thinking I'd have a quick lunch. The latte came out in a timely fashion and tastes good, but over 30min later and I still did not receive my waffle. The two gentlemen who ordered after me received their hot bfast plates before me. The 2 baristas did not notice that I still did not have my order. I ended up asking for it to go since I did not want to waste anymore time sitting there. By the time I walked out the two gentlemen were done eating. I really enjoyed my time here! I got in about 930am to get some coffee and sit and do some work. The girls that were in store we're all very friendly and helpful! I ended up ordering a Caramel Macchiato (which was so good, better than sbux) since I wasnt quite hungry but knew I was going to order food later. While I worked the girls were always checking up and making sure I was still doing alright! The only thing I found weird was that they stopped serving breakfast at 11:15am but don't start serving g lunch until 12pm. Which happened to fall in the time when I was looking to order lunch. The owner, I believe, said it would be no problem to order lunch now but I decided to wait till 12 anyways since I still had some more work to do! I was a bit worried about prices at first but you definitely get what you pay for! I ordered the BLT was pleasantly surprised that it came with chips and a side salad! It was definitely delicious! I don't like giving a bad review, but my mom and I were never treated more poorly. We went in for breakfast at around 11 during a time that wasn't busy. It took 15 minutes just for the servers to acknowledge us and handed us menus (that were lunch menus), while the people who were just sat immediately received a menu, asked for the breakfast menus, and ordered off them. When we had asked for the breakfast menu while the server just left the table taking their breakfast order, we were told that breakfast was no longer being served and that she couldn't give us a breakfast menu (??). Despite this, we were kind enough to give them one more chance until the server came to another table that was sat after us to take their drink order (before they came to us for our drinks order) and explained to them that drinks would not be available for 30 minutes... that is so strange and unprofessional, so we unfortunately left after a total of around 30 minutes being almost completed ignored. Complete waste of time and a disappointment, it seems from reading other reviews that others have had similar experiences. read more

An awesome neighborhood cafe and breakfast spot. Delicious food and great service! I have had both breakfast options (omelette, breakfast club, oatmeal) and lunch options (salads and sandwiches). All are great, but I was particularly impressed with the Phoenix Omelette and the oatmeal. The Phoenix omelette isn't too big and emphasizes its component veggies - lots of tomato and avocado (often at other places you're overwhelmed with a mass of eggs). The oatmeal was simple an had a great texture. I've also tried lots of their coffee options, and they are super tasty! Atmosphere indoors was quaint, but very loud, and there were only three tables, including ours, occupied: two four-tops with two people each, and a group of seven. Our table was third in line to place an order. It took under ten minutes to get an order of cappuccino, with whole milk (there's also an option for almond milk) placed, and mom was granted a sample of apple juice to try while we placed our breakfast orders, but not before being warned that we may be waiting "40-50 minutes" for our "made from scratch" food to arrive when I pressed for specificity since there was a large party seated before us, as I hinted we'd leave of it was going to be closer to an hour. We decided to stay, and our server, the only one there working the tables, the register, and bussing the tables, was working as best as she could. Mom really liked my cappuccino, so we ordered another one for her, as she found the apply juice to be too sweet. While I didn't watch how long it took for the food to arrive, it did feel about 40 or so minutes before the Florentine Benedict and Banana Kahlua French toast appeared, and they looked and tasted delicious! We were both very hungry, and mom's plate looked perfect, so I didn't complain about the burnt challah toasts, though I normally would have. I kind of felt bad that our plates arrived while some people in the large party were still waiting for theirs- Mom and I noticed that some had finished eating and had their plates bussed, while others had their orders arrive after mom and I were already digging into ours- but perhaps some had issues with their orders and they were sent in to be corrected? That was another reason why I didn't speak up about the burnt toast-- as I didn't want to cause the kitchen any more delay, and the server had no one else to help her with FOH duties. Mom had no complaints about her entree, and she really liked her Benedict, which she reported was fulfilling. Correction: she did mention that the curried potatoes were too salty, and I concur. Despite the saltiness, the bite of potato I had tasted good. The Kahlua sauce and glazed bananas were terrific on my challah French toast entree, and I quite enjoyed watching mom swipe a few of the banana slices! She also remarked that the challah toast and sauce she tried were good. Despite the noise indoors, the burnt food, and the long wait, we would return again. I couldn't persuade mom to choose "patio-dining," but that certainly was an option, and one I would choose if meeting friends there for a meal. If it looked like there would be a long wait, I may just opt out of waiting and find another breakfast location, or request that the toast not be burnt. Perhaps another server and/or another cook called out today, or maybe the hot weather cooling down is bringing more customers in? The food we had today certainly begs for a second visit, and I hope everything will go a lot smoother then! Many thanks to our server, who stayed calm despite being the only one we saw at the FOH. Our first visit to this quaint restaurant, with some patio seating, nicely decorated. Had to wait a few minutes for a table, no big deal. Waitress was hustling her tail off. Wife ordered Florentine Benedict and I the Challah French Toast. When our breakfast came out we were pleasantly surprised by the generous portions. The best part was the first bite...and every bite after that! The food was amazing! There aren't words to describe, it was delicious. My friend and I went to the Black & White Grille on 1/22/24 for lunch and I brought a B&W gift card that I had received 12/23. The food was good but I was in for a surprise when the bill came. There were 2 prices on the bill, one for using a card and one for cash. I assumed a gift card issued by an independent establishment, such as the B&W, would not include an up-charge for using it. Well, it did. The fact that it was a card, issued by them and they already had received the funds, meant nothing. I had the most amazing day after Valentine's Day dinner. The food was spectacular. Made fresh to order. The pork-chops are the best I have ever had. They literally melted in my mouth. Green beans were fresh with a perfect texture and the rice was flavorful and light. My husbands burger was outstanding. The arugula with mushroom and Gouda paired beautifully! Not only was the food amazing, the atmosphere was very relaxing, - while drinking wine and listening to the live Saxophonist. Can't wait to bring friends and clients here. Truly a hidden gem. Used to love coming to this little hole in the wall restaurant. Today we were greatly disappointed. No vodka for a Bloody Mary. No nonfat or reduced fat milk for the coffee, no whip cream for the mocha. My husband's $14 omelette had no meat this time. We have visited this little hole in the wall cafe 3 times in the last 2 months. We thought we had found a special little cafe. We love their food, esp the pancakes, potatoes and coffee. It is a small cafe however and they are usually busy on Saturday mornings, and they won't let you wait for a table inside in the A/C. You must wait outside in the summer sun and heat. Also, mind you this is our 3rd time visiting this cafe, today one of the servers informed us, that because my husband had already had 3 refills of his coffee cup, there would be an extra cup charge for each refill from now on. We had never been told this in our previous visits. In fact last visit we were offered a full cup of coffee to go without an extra charge. There is nothing on the menu or their chalkboard coffee menu, that states only 3 refills when dining in. Very disappointed in this stance. Most cafe/restaurants in Phoenix offer bottomless refills on their coffee when dining in. Hopefully this was just one server having a bad day and making her own rules. read more

This cafe is located in a strip mall that houses Home Depot. Hubby found it online as we were looking for places for breakfast near us. We looked at the menu online and it looked really good so we gave it a try. First of all, the restaurant is really tiny. I mean it. Tiny. We were greeted promptly, directed over to that table. The server brought us our menus and place settings and said she would have another server take care of us. She also said they just started serving mimosas in case we wanted one. We looked the menu over and within seconds the other server greeted us and asked what we wanted to drink. Since they grind their own beans, we decided to try just the regular coffee . It was good. While she was getting our coffee, I looked behind me and saw that breakfast was only served from 7 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. We were in after 12:30. I confirmed with our server that breakfast items were no longer available. So we went for lunch. They had a nice assortment of salads and sandwiches. Our server did say pretty much about 80% of the items on the menu were organic. I got the smoked turkey sandwich. You had choice of bread; I got wheat. It came with chips and coleslaw or you could substitute for a salad. I didn't want either coleslaw or salad so I just said chips. Hubby got the club sandwich on wheat I think. He went with chips and coleslaw. And then we waited. Now remember there are only 8 tables here and only one other table hadn't gotten their food. They were just ordering when we were being sat. It took a longer time than expected to get the food out. Both to the table also waiting as well as our table. We figured after they got their food ours would be next, and of course it was, but probably took in total about 20-25 minutes to get the food out. The other table had ordered sandwiches also. When our food came, I will say it was delicious! We decided to share our sandwiches, so I got half of my hubby's and he got half of mine so we got to sample each of them. The amount of meat they put on was insane! It was A LOT of meat. And on his club there were lots of bacon strips along with the ham and turkey. Mine had sweet pickle on it. I love sweet pickles and rarely have them so that was a treat. A little after 1 o'clock, two of the servers left, which just left our server. She was a little busy after that taking orders from people who came in. The restaurant was stuffy too. The air conditioning was working but it still was stuffy . Maybe cause its so small?
