The 4 stars are for the quality of the coffee. I had a almond milk latte which was great. Good and strong coffee without being bitter. I also ordered the breakfast club minis the bacon. The open faced sandwich was noting to write home about. Soggy white bread and covered in cheese. That being said, I am open to giving to place another shot for lunch at a later date. The very friendly women working at the counter let me know that all of their lunch sandwiches are panini style. So incredibly impressed with my sandwich!! Full disclosure, I own a sandwich shop in San Diego. Needless to say, I can be a harsh critic when it comes to sandos. I stumbled in here after hitting the EOS gym across the freeway. I simply needed some food quick and really did not know what to expect. From the outside I thought maybe there was just coffee and quick bites, boy was I wrong. They had some seriously mean sounding breakfast options but it was lunch so I ordered a BLT on sourdough. I was in such a hurry I was thinking I had made a mistake as I impatiently waited there to grab my sandwich and get on the road. I want to tell everyone with absolute confidence that this BLT was THE best I have ever had in my life. The bacon was done absolutely perfectly and is the quality thick cut bacon that you want. The bread was toasted just enough but not so much it cuts up your mouth when you eat it. Just enough mayo but not too much. Well done Black and White Café. Been here a couple times and it's a pretty decent place. When they're not busy it's great! Got a nice London fog here. When we came for lunch though we had to wait quite a bit for service. And the food is good but slightly overpriced. Not sure if I'd come again just for the food, but's it's a cute place to study if you need someplace nearby in Glendale. read more

The Black & White Cafe is my new fave spot!!! I live in Glendale and this cute local cafe is only a couple of miles from my house. My girlfriend and I frequent this place for brunch after long runs on Saturdays. I typically go for the American breakfast (eggs+toast+meat), but this time I decided to try the Phoenix Omelette. It was a fairly large portion, but after running 15 miles, I can down the whole thing! The toast is a bit small so I always order an extra side. We HIGHLY recommend trying their sausage links. And another plus is that their coffee is BOMB! The inside is a bit small so we always opt for an outside table. This cafe is a definite MUST for anyone looking for a cute, local brunch spot :) read more

I hate to leave a bad review. And in this case, we didn't even get to eat the food (I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 in good faith). For one thing, there are no food options for kids - not a big deal, our kids can just share one of the big plates. But there are also no high chairs, which was a little more of a problem for us. After waiting a while, our little one was getting up and trying to walk away. Not all places are meant for kids, ok. (A good enough reason for us not to return). All of our waters had little black pieces of grit or what looked like sand at the bottom. Not sure what that was, but we didn't get a chance to tell our server about it because after she brought our water she didn't appear at our table again. The place seemed pretty slow, a lot of empty tables inside. Maybe all of the diners arrived around the same time? I worked in the food industry for over a decade, and I get that sometimes looks can be deceiving. But when my husband went inside to tell the server that we were leaving, she apologized and said that the food is fresh and takes a long time to prepare (but we never ordered any food). All in all, I would tell families to stay away. This is not a kid-friendly restaurant. And if you're in a hurry or pressed for time, I would probably go elsewhere also. read more

My girlfriend has been wanting to try this café for quite some time. We finally got a chance to go together this past Friday morning. There were several open tables outside and the inside was about 1/2 full. We decided to sit at one of the patio tables. There were several servers walking around however no one ever came over and greeted us. I grow very nice out there for about 10 minutes. Food and drinks were being delivered to other tables and drinks and the servers were aware that we were there. Not even one hello. Needless to say we got up and left without being spoken to. Disappointing first experience. I can't give a one star review because all they did was ignore us. We have no idea how the food was but the service was second rate 100%. Was in the area and goggled restaurants in the Glendale area and this gem came up. Decided to try it and all we can say is WOW! From a beautiful decor to some of the best breakfast we've had. And we like our breakfasts. Please don't pass up this wonderful place you won't regret it. Not sure how a restaurant can be so inconsistent. Had breakfast yesterday for the first time and it was very good. Came back again today and it was not a good experience. The breakfast potatoes were not only soggy and extremely greasy, but they were also sitting in a puddle of grease. When we spoke to the server and her response was "well they're fried!" No offer to take them back and fix the situation. Checking this place off our list. read more

This review is for the owner/management. First off, I love to support local independent businesses and want to see them be successful and thrive. The Positives: The food was outstanding! The coffee was delicious! 5 stars to the chef! Room for improvement: The young man that served me this morning was very upbeat with lots of positivity, and was helpful every time I asked for something, but the issue is that I had to ask for almost everything. I had to ask for a refill of my coffee, I had to ask for a refill of my water, I had to ask for sugar, I had to ask for salt and pepper. It would go a long way if those things were anticipated. The challah French toast comes with a chocolate and caramel drizzle, but there is no mention of that in the description on the menu. I would have changed my order if that info was included on the menu. The miniature coffee cup that is used to hold the cream for coffee is cute and unique, but it's functionality to pour cream into your coffee cup doesn't work. It simply runs down the side and off the bottom leaving a mess on the table. I hope this feedback is helpful. read more

We got a cold brew which I loved Jeannette was telling us the food is all made to order so on busy days it takes a little more time. It was worth it. Went for lunch. I really like the farm to table menu. I had a salad that I enjoyed. I see posts about the service but I find it friendly and yet on a slower pace. A hidden gem. I went to discount to get my tire changed and stopped by here for a quick lunch and I had never been here before. It was a clean and cozy spot with some outdoor tables if you so choose. The young lady working the counter was exceptional. Very cordial and attentive. I ordered the club sandwich and it was much bigger than I was expecting and very tasty! Food was decent enough, however beware they want to charge for each soda drink. The markup is significant on soda and it is 100 degrees. If they wanted a discounted charge as some rarely do that was fine but I think this is a bad business practice in this town and out of the norm and let them know I would not be returning due to this. Everything we had was phenomenal!!! We tried it once and just had to go back before the end of our vacation. The Norwegian Benedict was the absolute best breakfast I've ever had. I recently discovered this place when a friend insisted that we meet for breakfast. I have never been more excited about a local eating establishment especially for breakfast. I do love breakfast and often time go to the east side of town, including all the way to Scottsdale, because I think they have great breakfast and didn't know that people on the West side knew how to cook breakfast. The owner of Black and White is extremely nice, not to mention easy on the eyes, and I think you should give this place a try. The menu pricing may seem a little high but I think after you get your food you'll understand why as the portions are certainly not skimpy. We are just leaving this place.... And I couldn't wait to leave the review. This place is GREAT!!! The decor is so fresh and clean. I love their unique style menus on the doors to the kitchen and on the walls. The staff was extremely nice and VERY attentive. The two ladies working in the front were so sweet. Checked on us a few times through out the meal. By the end of the meal the cook came out and was making sure everything was good. He was very nice and talked to us about the restaurant. The food is on another level than any other on the westside. I had the egg white scramble and my dad had the eggs Benedict. We also shared a donut Croissant. The eggs scramble was delicious. I loved the fresh veggies inside. The fruit and potatoes it came with were so fresh and delicious. I LOVED the toast on the side!! It was really good. My dads eggs Benedict was one of the best he has ever had. I'm not a fan usually but I had a few bites!! It was so so good!! The hollandaise was so creamy and buttery. The ham was so thick and the English muffin was so toasty. Last but certainly not least, the donut croissant! Yum!!!!! It has honey and powdered sugar on it! It was delicious. Details missed, slow service and a complete lack of organization by all staff. Took over 30 minutes before our food order was even taken and 20 minutes later asked about protein option. This is the best coffee spot in Glendale. Wow! Beyond impressed with the coffee, food & customer service of this place. I really can't say enough great things about this place. For one, they roast their own beans here and the taste is therefore very smooth, without any bitterness, and so flavorful. Second of all, I was treated so very well by the staff, who went above & beyond for me as a customer, made me feel so welcome, and genuinely friendly. For those of you wondering, I had an iced lavender latte, with the perfect amount of sweetness & coffee taste. Also, I had a croissant that was delicious--it was buttery, soft, with just enough flakiness. Checked out this awesome little cafe this morning while waiting for tires to be rotated on the car. First time here so the server suggested three of her favorite breakfasts which we opted for the Norwegian Benedict. She said it would be savory and it really was. First off,they advertise themselves on yelps as a juice bar. They only serve orange and apple juice.... secondly, since we were there, we decided to order an egg sandwich. We ordered one with sausage, it came with bacon instead. While we were waiting we noticed other mix ups. Lastly, my wife and I ordered cold brew coffees. Very nice, very clean! Everything is fresh made including the coffee which is roasted on premises. Ordered a double espresso, a donut croissant, Carmel macchiato and a bowl of the soup of the day (cream of potato). The soup was spectacular. Potatoes and little chunks of sausage... So savory. The donut croissant was amazing. Served on a chocolate sauce with chocolate inside like a molten lava cake. Absolutely delicious! The espresso was positively rich with a much less pronounced bitterness than you would typically expect from an espresso. Must be due to the in house roasted beans, so fresh! As it says on the door, best quality and based on my first visit I'd agree. I look forward to my next visit. read more
