I think people are rating this place unreasonably low. There is no better breakfast place on this side of town. In fact, I feel this is in the top three or four breakfast spots in the valley. I always loved the downtown location when I worked down there but parking was always horrible and the wait was always long. Both of these problems are solved with this location. It's a nice open space with tons of parking and usually no wait, however, the weekends can be busy. The sausage links from the Pork Shop in Queen Creek are delicious. I've had almost every menu item and absolutely no complaints. The servers are always attentive and friendly. The majority of my breakfast outings are spent here! read more

We sat up at the bar. It's not big, just three chairs, but there were only two us, so it worked for us and we got great service. The waitress was friendly and pleasant, plus helpful with menu suggestions. This was our first time. Got The Five Spotter Platter which is made up of a fantastic breakfast sandwich with your choice of potatoes and a drink. There were plenty of ingredients, meaning quantity of bacon, eggs, avocado, etc. The hashbrowns were made quite uniquely with a unique taste. Not sure if I was necessarily thrilled with them, but the weren't bad. Prices are reasonably and they get the food out fast, plus check on you regularly. A few years back, we tried to eat at the downtown restaurant, but there was a long line waiting to get in, so we passed because we had an infirm family member with a walker. More recently, we noticed that there was now one on 75th and Rose Garden, so last weekend we tried it. The service was okay. My wife had the waffle with bacon and she liked it, but nothing special. I had the royal feast which consisted of 3 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, choice of potatoes and one pancake. My first complaint was that it was all served on one plate with the pancake on top just about covering everything else. Very difficult to eat that way! I managed, but it wasn't fun, especially since I wanted to eat the pancake last. The second complaint was the potatoes. I absolutely love the smell of rosemary and I can't walk by a bush without touching it and putting my fingers to my nose to smell it, but I can not stand the taste of it! For me, it is like eating perfume! I did not know that the homefries were cooked with rosemary! A lot of it! There were a half a dozen sprigs of it in my potatoes! If I ever eat there again for breakfast, I will be sure to order the hashbrowns. Nowhere on the menu was rosemary mentioned. One last thing is the name! Big Breakfast! I think that this is a misnomer. I think there is more bang for the buck at other restaurants, especially at Ronnie's Cafe, where we ate this morning! But, we had to give Matt's a try! read more

Service was good though waitress was very kind. I had some of their fresh squeezed OJ and LOVED it. Was not a huge fan of the food, my Dad got a Rueben and he said the meat was too salty and the pickle didn't taste good and had a strange texture. I ate at this Matt's Big Breakfast for the first time a couple weeks ago. Slightly disappointing experience. I've eaten at the Biltmore location previously, a long time ago. I remembered really enjoying it. So I was excited to try them again at their Arrowhead location. It just didn't hit the same as I remembered. Everything was just okay. The hashbrowns were oily and flavorless. The best bites were the bacon and the raspberry preserve which comes with the toast. My partner ordered The Five Spot but didn't enjoy it all. The meat ratio doesn't work for the sandwich. The service was friendly and quick. Not sure I'll be coming back to this one. read more

This Matt's Big Breakfast opened a little over a year ago and is a welcome addition to the Arrowhead Brunch scene. Due to the pandemic, it took a while for them to open. And we were soooo excited when the sign went up, being a big fan of their busy downtown PHX location. Yes! Wait times are in the forty-five minutes range, but there are some shaded seats outside. Granted the kitchen can sometimes be slow. But we tend to use the extended downtime for conversation Three of us already had the menu memorized before coming here. LOL So we each ordered our usuals... BLT with a side of Country Sausage protein, Waffles with Bacon and their huge Papa Breakfast Burrito with a side of Hash Browns. Delicious. Matt's Big Breakfast is awesome scratch cooked dishes made by a real cook. Too many restaurants just reheat processed foods these days. I first found their original location near downtown Phoenix. I was thrilled to find the Arrowhead location for breakfast. They were also kind to substitute low carb options instead of the menu potatoes and toast with my pork chop and egg selection. Found This resturant in the Arizona Highway magazine and they gave it rave reviews. Well I'm here to tell you it was the worst food I have ever eaten. Not only that for 2 common breakfasts w/soda (coffee was awful) for 2 people the total was $40.00 plus tip. Outrages pricing for awful food. It will never happen again. IHOP and Denny's would have better food and reasonable prices. I just wanted to try something new, will never take the advice from Arizona Highway again. The main location is definitely better. I ordered the special which was eggs Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was unique and flavorful but there was too much of it. It overpowered the rest of the dish. The hash browns were just ok and could've been crispier; the middle was slightly raw. My wife had the hog & chick and ordered the bacon extra crispy and it wasn't crispy. Good pepper crust on the bacon though. The addition of a kids menu would be a good idea. There's no kids menu or coloring page or something for smaller kids so if you're looking for a spot to go with kids, you'll need to bring your own entertainment for them. read more

The food is fantastic. The best breakfast place in the area far and the service is great as everyone is very friendly. You can't go wrong having breakfast here but I highly recommend you get extra bacon and the sourdough toast with strawberry preserves is a must with your pancakes or waffles. read more

Breakfast on Monday morning about 11 am was fine. We ordered and the food came out quickly in about 5 minutes. My sausage was over cooked. I faced the kitchen and when a waitress ordered a side of bacon it came out in 20 seconds. Clearly things are previously cooked (bacon, sausage, hash browns). Our family wanted to try this restaurant out and after a first service at church on Sunday I thought I'd call ahead to see if they took reservations for large parties. The gal said no but that at the moment there was one table that would accommodate our party of seven but maybe two options if the tables turn. She couldn't guarantee they'd still have the availability when we arrived as it's a rather small place but she'd try to save the area if possible. Ten minutes later we arrived and we and another couple were told to sit anywhere. Uh oh... only one possible area to put tables together for us so I asked the couple if we could take them as there were two other four tops. Was dismayed that the gal hadn't tried... but it worked out. Menu is limited which I didn't know ahead of time. Turns out it is a scratch kitchen. Everything we ordered was very good. Service was good as well. Bacon exceptional and pancakes huge. Unfortunately they don't have a child's menu... but creative ordering could help provide enough food from everyone's plates. "Hog and Chick" is the best breakfast I've had in years! Sausages in skins that are sourced from Queen Creek AZ, crispy yet tender inside hash browns, hearty real butter buttered artisan whole wheat toast from a local supplier, and eggs made perfectly to order. The berry preserves (delish enough so that with my last crust of bread, I scraped out the last bit of yumminess) weren't in those plastic packages but were put into reusable condiment containers and such attention to reducing the plastic waste stream is not lost on me--hopefully plastic straws can be switched out to paper in the future. My friend had the Weekend Scramble which he said had just the right amount of heat to perk up the eggs mixed with chicken sausage and fresh rosemary home fries and a fresh tortilla. We didn't have the freshly squeezed orange juice or the locally roast small-batch coffee, but no problem since this a place we want to return to. And I didn't even mention the attentive friendly staff and the cozy ambiance complete with a farm and local sites mural! It is a little pricier than I'd like, but because of the freshness and conscientious sourcing, I can justify it. Some improved signage would help as Matt's is pretty much lost in the little strip mall, but the outdoor umbrellas do garner some attention, although the sign is so faded that it's hard to see "Matt's" and since it shared an awning with "Mug" haircuts, my first impression was that Matt's had closed and an eatery called Mug had taken its place! read more

Matt's Big Breakfast is mainly a higher quality breakfast restaurant with around 6 locations in the valley. They use local Hickman's eggs, red bird chicken, local roasted coffee, line caught tuna and so on. I went to the Glendale-Arrowhead location. They don't have a hostess. You seat yourself at any table with menus. I tried a reuben made with house roasted corned beef. Everything about exceeded my expectations. Unusually good corned beef, The bread was also extra good, and a very good deli pickle. Even the cole slaw was crisp not drippy and very above average. My husband tried a butter burger that also was very good. He was impressed that yo can get a M/Rare burger from a restaurant that specializes in breakfast. Service was fast friendly and efficient. There's not a lot to say. They post their diners drive-ins and dives, but don't really advertise it. I am confused as to why.. the food was OK. The service was extremely slow, my drink refills took forever, and the food took a long time to come out, which was surprising, given it was very slow. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, and my son ordered a chicken sandwich. They call themselves a from scratch kitchen, don't own a freezer. But their chips come from a bag and aren't fried in-house. The special of the day was biscuits and gravy, and you got like 1.5 biscuits that were the same consistency of a hockey puck and about as flavorful. The gravy had the consistency of dried out mashed potatoes and the hadhbrowns game out cold and lacked any seasoning. They charged almost 20$ for them and was just simply not worth it. Stopped in on a Saturday late AM for some breakfast. The place was HOPPING, which is such a great sign, so decided to belly up to the bar for some grub. They have a daily special and I went with that - the Weekend Scrambler - a great mix of spinach, sausage, egg, cheese with a side of home fries. Kids - NEVER do hashbrowns, go for the home fries! Food was very good, along w/the coffee. The staff worked very well together, as I had a direct view to the kitchen and wait staff. Michelle was awesome along with all the service peeps.
