    Chorizo Breakfast Burrito (760-1580 cals.)

There is not a lot of places to eat in Yreka and we were meeting our kids and grandkids there so we chose Black Bear. We were seated promptly but had to ask for kids menus twice. It is a little run down but the food was good. I had a Caesar salad with blackened salmon and it was quite good. Hubby had Tri-tip on the smaller plates and it was plenty. Our grandson had a chorizo burrito and he loved it. Our little granddaughter had chocolate chip pancakes and she also loved them. Everything was good! The bathrooms had a ton of flies in them, they should address this.

Best server, Jacqueline! She was attentive and read our minds with the offer of ranch dressing for our fries. Very large fish fry sandwich - pollock, and fish and chips. All delicious. This is the best black bear we've been to!

The food at this specific Black Bear Diner is Sooo Gooodd!

We stopped here in passing, on our way back to CA from visiting family in Oregon. The service? Amazing! The food? Sooo Yummy! The overall experience. Top notch!

I've been driving since 2:30am and decided to stop at 9:00am and have breakfast. Service was great and the food was outstanding not very busy in and out within 30 minutes

The Bear Paw (smaller) version of the chicken fried steak. Perfect!

One-line review: Hit the spot for diner food. I really enjoyed my meal here. I got the chicken fried steak (senior size) and it was just right. I think the full-size would have been a better value, but I was traveling and taking half with me would have been more trouble than it was worth. Service was welcoming and efficient. Parking was free in their lot. Bottom line: I don't get to Yreka often, but I would gladly eat here again.

We did have to wait a little longer than I would have expected for our food with the place only being half full, but the quality was worth the wait! Ordered eggs with spinach, bacon (4 slices!), hashbrowns and a biscuit, and iced tea, with a side of gravy (because why not?). The biscuit was piping hot and fluffy, the gravy not too thick with a bunch of sausage bits. A craveable breakfast spot that I wish was closer to my home! Cozy spot with a little parking lot, located off the highway and easy to find.

Honestly disappointed but what more could you ask for in a random down off the highway. The server seemed off, maybe something about us being newcomers or visitors she wasn't too enthusiastic to serve us, it was frankly, awkward. We were waiting to be helped while watching her and some other workers just talk and laugh at the front service desk. We finally received our food after ordering about half an hour prior as I witnessed others being served whom arrived AFTER we had. The food tasted fine, although it seemed like it was missing something; After eating, my stomach was twisting and turning. Needless to say, next time, I'm doing my research before I just stopped at a random place to eat.

I am a tad arrogant, having access to the some of the best cuisine by living close to San Francisco. Now to be fair, their price point reflects what you see sitting on the plate before you. The service is polite. Ambiance is fun. I ran around in these train cars as a child while vacationing with family 30 years ago. My advice would be, go with what works. The previous owner had it going on, knew the territory so to speak. This place has "warning Will Robbinson" all over it, like sushi in Kansas. A tuckered out Fly Fisherman would prefer a great steak and baked potato. No shame in that, it is the pillar of American dining. If I want foo-foo, I will go to SFO. But then again, I think the food in Paris is "OK", (specifically their entrees) Paris has great bread, crackers and cheese. Alright, pastry, baguets, and fromage. All the offerings in Italy are amazing and the only thing to eat in the UK are chippies. The best "foo foo food" was Betlenut Pan-Asian on Union Street in San Francisco. Lost their lease however. THAT was the bom-d-idly. Hey if you want a fabulous steak, try Jacks in DT Redding. Great place, but you will wait an hour, maybe two. But it is worth the wait. Has an interesting provenance, the location and building itself, was a house of ill repute back in the FDR days, so the legend goes. Cafe Maddalena in Dunsmuir is excellent as well. This faux fusion/euro/cubano/too cool to be true... might make 2 years max. It is the epitome of "The fastest way to make a small fortune, out of a large fortune is to start a restaurant." Inherited money, I can smell it burning in the kitchen.
