Friend and I split a Blue Burger with regular fries. I did the order online for to-go while on I-5 to do a 15 mile detour (one way) to the restaurant. We arrived at the expected time frame for pickup. We requested: the cook to be rare, no bbq, ketchup on the side and cut in half. Burger was cut in half. Check. It did not have bbq sauce. Check. Ketchup on the side. Check. It was overcooked. Sad. The bacon and blue cheese was really good! The bacon was thick, not crispy. And from what I understand, it is from their ranch. The burger patties (came with two) was just overcooked and a little dry. My friend said it was salty, I couldn't tell if it was the seasoning or blue cheese. The build for it was decent- no other toppings on it to allow the bacon and cheese to shine. The fries were not enjoyable. I imagine this is something best enjoyed fresh and hot. Service for pick up was very friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Environment was clean. They have taxidermy all over the wall. steak nachos, usually a family favorite, however today it disappointed. started with having to wait nearly an hour for the Togo order, Usually big chucks of savory beef, today barely a couple oz, but tasted okay, little more gristle than in the past, cheese different; nachos cheese watery, chips stale & chewy, nacho portions smaller than previously. 3 orders of steak nachos and a draft beer $70, which they added a 3.5% service charge, not sure what that's for, -added a tip but not as much as we usually would. It has been a year or so since our last time eating here, knowing that the service is slow but we really wanted the nachos we remembered, and gave it another chance. We came in on a random Tuesday night, and there looked like that they had a large party (10+ top table) so service was definitely slower than it should have been. However our server kept coming back to check on us and refill our drinks, and did inform us that the kitchen was a bit backed up due to the large party which was understandable of course. The inside of the restaurant was definitely kind of warm though, maybe due to all of the people inside. But the water refills were definitely warm so while the refills were appreciated, drinking warm water in a warm restaurant with hot food wasn't too enjoyable. But the beers and cocktails were definitely nice and cold! The salad satisfied my craving! Perfectly tender steak, creamy egg, sweet tomatoes, crisp bacon, and house made blue cheese dressing. The dressing was thick, cold, creamy, and had just the perfect amount of tang from the blue cheese. It's out of the way, but worth the drive! Good food and good service. read more

Have made multiple visits since their opening. Each one has been fantastic. Food has always been spot on. This last visit enjoyed an app of deviled eggs with house made bacon, a small jalapeño slice and a dusting of orange zest. Never thought you could improve much on deviled eggs but yes to the orange zest. Next was a ooey-gooey bowl of NE chowder. And yes more bacon and cheese on the chowder. Entree was their own ranch raised beef. My favorite is always ribeye....cooked and seasoned to perfection. Hats off to Alicia and all the staff for making our trips to the Valley consistently wonderful. Finished the night with a snifter of there house whiskey(actually it was served in a shot glass...but that's a minor.) Top 5 burger I've had for sure! We came here a week ago after a hike. Both my brother and I got the Bourbon Bacon Burger. The bacon marmalade was amazing. The fries are well seasoned. We got the Loaded Smashers to start which was great. I had the Watermelon Crawl cocktail and it's one of my fav cocktails I've ever had. Our server was super great. Elena was our server and she was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu and answered our questions and gave great recommendations. We ended up trying 3 appetizers- cornbread, deviled eggs, and jalapeño poppers, all delicious. We asked to cut the burgers in half so we could share and try two a few burgers so we ended up getting the Bourbon Bacon, M5 Alarm, Main Street, and Cowboy Blues burgers with sweet potato fries, coleslaw, reg fries and smashers as our sides as you can see they even separated the plates up for us so we were all able to share easily!! Last time visiting, deeply disappointed by the continuous shortcomings of this place. Over the past 4 years of coming here, the quality, service and atmosphere have continued to spiral downwards. The turnover in there is obvious, leading to untrained and mismanaged employees. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tuesday night, large crowd, with fire camp in town one would anticipate that it would be busy, considering the Etna competition is closed (normal).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] A wise, active and informed owner would be proactive, and involved in the day to day operations, however this is obviously not the case. 4 people to work the bar and entire restaurant, with one of those 4 being in training is wildly unacceptable. We sat for 1 HOUR AND 30 minutes before being served food. I am not sure why we continue to try, other than the fact that there is zero competition. I guess Brian and Mary are more concerned about instagram fame, knowing that without competition they can run the business by malicious incompetence and still make a dollar. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not to mention that the restrooms haven't been cleaned in days when you see where people have missed the toilet, and have feces and urine all over the toilets.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I guess it's more symbolic of the overall experience at Five Mary's Burgerhouse. As someone who operates a multimillion dollar sales business, managing up to 120 people at any time, I know what it takes to staff and manage in a rural area, and excuses don't cut it anymore. Active leadership keeps employees productive, absent leadership produces these results. The same customers next to us complained that they waited 2 hours. Then the next table complained. I wouldn't want to work at 5 Mary's either given the reputation, maybe the reason no one sticks around. Well hopefully it'll be better in a couple years once they figure it out. read more

This place used to be a awesome restaurant but the quality of food has gone down and there prices have skyrocketed. We came in and sat for 45 min without getting menus or waters. The owners really need to be more involved, their business is failing and they are very uninvolved and it shows. The price of sidecars were $8 now they are $16 the burgers used to be $13 now they are $18. They made something really good jacked up their rates and then lost the quality. read more

Super cool, rustic place with high ceilings, huge wood slab bar top, friendly and helpful employees AND some of the best food I've had in awhile! 1st visit... soon to be 1st of many! Went a bit healthier today, got a steak Cobb salad. The steak was seared and cooked spot on and the flavors of the bacon, bleu cheese, hard boiled eggs, tomatoes were so on point it couldn't have been ANY better! I recently dined at Five Mary's and had a generally good experience, but there were a few issues that stood out. Our server, didn't check in on us after we received our appetizer. I understand it was a busy night, but it would have been nice to feel more attended to. To add to this, our server wasn't the one who actually brought out our main dishes, and there was a delay with our sides. We ordered two sides of sweet potato fries, but they didn't arrive until we had to remind our server that we didn't have them and unfortunately, they were cold when they finally came out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The overall vibe of the restaurant was good however it seemed that it was very dim and while enjoying this good meal it felt that we were looking at silhouettes that were our guests that we had taken out to dine at this establishment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Despite these hiccups, the food quality was good, and I'd consider coming back, hoping for a smoother experience with the service next time. I was really disappointed with my experience at Five Mary's about a week ago. They do not take COVID seriously. My friend are I were staying in Fort Jones for the evening and decided to order takeout margaritas and fries. Upon walking inside to pick up our order, we noticed the restaurant was quite busy--most tables were full--and not a single person was wearing a mask, including restaurant staff. (My friend and I were the only ones.) The staff were also not wearing gloves, and there wasn't hand sanitizer available. It didn't make me feel confident that the restaurant cares for their customers or staff during a pandemic. And I'm glad we avoided the indoor surge by getting takeout. In terms of the drinks and food, they were alright. Fries were soft and underwhelming, so we reheated them in the oven at home. Drinks were good but nothing special. I was disappointed. I had big expectations after reading their cookbook. We diverted our travel Northbound to visit this restaurant. It's like a salon. It was so dark we had to use our cell phone flashlights to read the menu. The table was very wobbly, with pieces of paper everywhere, showing previous attempts to correct the unsteady table. The service was awful. We were the only seated table. There were 4 ladies being served at the bar. I had to get up to ask for water , even though the two servers were about 20 feet, socializing with each other, behind the bar. No glass was given with my bottle of beer. I had to remind her I ordered coffee with desert. The French press coffee was brought to me after dessert was finished, and it was very weak. The food was lackluster. Very mediocre. Oh-my-god what an amazing find! Was driving by on a work trip and stopped in for a bite. They have a fun, rustic whiskey bar thing going , complete with their own barrel aged bourbon. Which is tasty. Hand-breaded onion rings were really good, though the star of the show is their family-raised beef. Had the Steak Cobb and went absolutely bonkers for the steak! Staff is friendly, and most of the folks here are clearly regular locals. Love this place, only wish I lived close enough to be a regular! read more

I went to 5 Mary's while I was visiting a friend in Fort Jones. Had the Bacon burbon burger. It's absolutely the best burger I've ever eaten, hands down. Never knew a burger could taste that good. My friend had the steak salad, and she also said amazing. I couldn't believe how quickly our meals came. Little expensive, but these days, a fast food burger will cost $12. It's worth every penny and then some. The staff was awesome! The ambiance was great. 5 stars. read more

Really tasty burgers. I got the summertime burger - the blackberry and Brie was a really great combo. My husband got the bacon bourbon burger which was also really good. Delicious meat. Plenty of food. They have a full bar and good beers on tap. It's kinda dark inside, but has a western feel so maybe that's part of the charm.
