Beautiful club house. Outstanding service. Very friendly staff. Course in outstanding condition. I was surprised to find that the layout is the same as when it was Canterbury. The course could be made more playable by adding a couple of tee boxes. The carry on the white tees is too much on some holes. In my humble opinion, a couple of the holes are poorly designed. There should always be a bailout. Some of the greens play like island greens. You either have a good shot or you don't. Not fun! read more

It's a a great course in excellent condition with very helpful and friendly staff. Greens, fairways, tee boxes and rough were all immaculate, and bunkers were in very good condition. Beautiful "all carry" par 3's and wonderful hilltop views throughout. We enjoyed the course more than nearby Blackstone. The only draw backs were that the on-course bathrooms did not have running water, the cart paths were in rough condition in several areas, and there is quite a driving distance from green to tee on some holes. However, we're looking forward to playing it again. read more

Today I'll be talking about the food within restaurant located on the golf course, not the actual golf course itself. We went on a Thursday night which happened to be burger night. The service was great and the servers were very friendly. We opted for outdoor seating which was great because it offered a nice view of the golf course. The inside seating offered great lighting and offered a great experience. Burger, 3/5: this was a simple burger. I had requested to get a burger done medium rare, however I received it was well done. The burger itself lacked in flavor but I appreciate the creativity in trying to attract new customers with making Thursday a burger night. The fries were very delicious. They were seasoned to perfection and you could tell they were made fresh to serve. Overall, the meal was decent. The servers and staff were very friendly. Pace of play is a SERIOUS issue at his club and the marshalls do nothing about it at all. Don't even know why our dues are paying for these people. Rude people who never let MUCH faster golfers play through. People bring their kids out to play at 0920 tee times and can't even come CLOSE to keeping up with the group ahead of them. Black Bear Golf Club - Golf Near Me - Parker, Colorado

New ownership group from Georgia is expanding to Colorado, and it looks like Black Bear will be part of its portfolio of properties. Black Bear/Canterberry has come a long way in a few years. Course conditions are excellent, greens are well prepared and cared for. Course layout is challenging with arroyos, elevation changes, and more than a few tough 'target golf" holes. Bring your game, keep it in play, have fun. Hack it and jack it, could be a long day. Canongate Golf group should offer reciprical playing options at all clubs it acquires here. Let's hope they replace the lackluster clubhouse staff with new blood. Could be a great neighborhood gathering place, and community centerpiece. read more

We had lunch in the restaurant today. It's open to the public, yet when our server realized we were not members, the level of service declined. The food was good. Not great. The server never refilled my tea, but refilled my husband's drink. When the check arrived it had a tip applied of 20% and no way to amend. Very disappointing. read more

Joined the course this past year and have been very pleased so far. Superb service from every employee there. The course is always in great shape and, for the price, there's no way you can beat it for a private course in the area. The deal for kids to play golf is unbeatable if you go during twilight hours. My 6 and 4 year olds have their own sets of clubs and have been out many times. Love it. Looking forward to another great year of swinging the sticks! read more

This course use to be the Canterberry Country Club golf course, not sure why it changed. A Jeff Brauer design that covers a lot of ground. So, much so that they make you take a golf cart. If I decided to walk the course, I would probably still be out there. Some of the distances between one green and the next tee took about 10 minutes in the cart. Good variety of holes with some long par 3,s one of them is 230 yards with little chance for a bail out. It is one of those courses that runs through a housing development and I do not think there is a tree on the entire course, except those in the waste and native grasses areas. Greens are in good shape, course is somewhat up and down and you can run the ball up on most greens. Three par 5's on the back nine, none of which were reachable from the back tees, at least for me they were not. Practice area is small and nothing special. They don't let you drive the carts into the parking lot so you have to lug your bag to/from your car. Reasonably priced and well worth the visit. This is another one that I will return to. read more

I love this course because it's close and it's cheap! I only play on it when I find a deal on GolfHub, but it's worth it. You HAVE to have a cart because the course is huge and spread out. The drink cart girls are friendly too and you can get a nice strong drink out of them...it makes for more fun golfing! ;-) read more

Well Canongate got this course in great condition last year. This year they may have aerated it too soon and we had a cold snap a week after aeration. It has taken it awhile to come back, but it is coming back. The sand bunkers are in great shape and clubhouse is clean and spiffy. The people in the pro shop are doing a better job too. Still go here quite a bit as it is closer than Blackstone. Love the idea of the family tees. I haven't used them yet, but I intend to with my kids. Couple of things they need to fix: 1. The restaurant is just okay. Some of the waitstaff seems lost 2. The rest of the cart paths need to be resurfaced. 3. Please, please, please someone fix the bump going into the second tunnel on the back nine. It is huge!!!! overall very pleased with how this course has come back. read more

Black Bear is my favorite course in the Denver area. I play here at least once a week (weather permitting) and have seen the course under prior management, and under the new management by Canongate. It's a challenging course (73.8 rating from the blacks, 71.8 from the blues) with lots of elevation changes, some difficult longer par 3's, and arroyos that you have to clear to reach 4 of the greens. You've got to have a cart here, or you'll wear yourself out and piss off the other golfers who are stuck waiting for you. Since Canongate took over about a year ago, the course has gotten better in all aspects. The greens are in amazing shape, they re-did all the bunkers on the whole course and are now in excellent shape, and they really do a great job of maintaining the tee boxes and the native grasses etc... They just replaced the old carts about a month ago and the new carts are top notch. (Although they don't have GPS, which is strange considering that Blackstone has GPS on their carts.) The staff in the Pro Shop and the restaurant are very friendly and helpful. Not sure who the staff was when some of these other reviews were written, but I've never had one complaint about their staff. Cart girls are very friendly and attentive. They also just added a learning center, which includes video monitors, swing analysis and club fitting center. The only complaint is the range. For some reason they built the range where you are hitting uphill. The club is going fully private on April 1, 2011, so if you'd like to get a Canongate membership, you'd better move fast. Membership also gets you access to Blackstone, and 32 courses in GA, TX, OH, TN, SC & NC, including Hilton Head. I've heard lots of rumors that Canongate will be purchasing 4 other courses including the Pinery, Colorado Golf Club, Heritage Eagle and Castle Pines North. Not sure if this is going to happen, but if it does, your membership gets you access to all these courses. The membership is definitely a great deal Highly recommend Black Bear and Canongate! read more

NOTE: This course is going private in April or May 2011, so get out there while you can! So, finally, there are new golf carts and new mats at the driving range, so it is getting better. Sadly, the new owners do not seem to know the value of mature trees in Douglas County. They needlessly chopped some of the most beautiful pines (none had pine beetle or any diseases...not sure why they did this but it made us and several others very sad). The staff are still not at the level of other Canongate properties, but seem to be a work in progress. read more

Went to Easter brunch at their restaurant. What a mistake. Food that was supposed to be hot was cold and cold food was warm. There were no labels on any of the food. We had to pour our own coffee. Then to add insult to injury they added 18% gratuity to our bill. They should have given me a cut as I got all the coffee refills for our table! IHOP WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. read more

Beautiful course and setting but your staff needs to work on customer service. As a Country Club your staff could be more inviting. And I am not a country club person. We were guests that visited. The cart on the course stayed your round should be under 4 hours. However as a twosome we followed a foursome for 17 hopes and 4:50 later we finished behind them. I understand that we would wait since we were two and they were four but they should also follow golf etiquette and as you can tell by their time they were playing SLOW. It becomes VERY frustrating and we really tried. It to ruin our time but it was hard! read more

I don't golf but I did have my wedding and reception here last weekend. It was absolutely perfect and provided beautiful scenery. Stacey, the event coordinator, was amazing from beginning to end. We also had our rehearsal dinner there the night before the event. The food was so good at both the rehearsal and the reception. I don't think that there was a plate with food on it to go back to the kitchen. The catering staff was phenomenal as well. I would highly recommend Black Bear for a wedding venue in the area. read more

This place is beautiful and the restarant is great too. We come here on fridays or on the weekends. When the weather is nice, we sit on the patio and hang out. The burgers are delicious, and so is most of the food we've tried. I would recommend this place to the public. read more

I'm not the one to golf or go to country clubs, but I attended an event at this facility and found it to be very enjoyable. The grounds were well landscaped and beautiful, the staff I came across were polite and personable. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a formal special event. read more

We had our daughters wedding there on a Sunday, and I have nothing but good things too say about the whole experience. Laura handled our event with professionalism and a smile. 1st - from the moment my daughter and son-in-law decided to hold their wedding there, everyone was so nice, and patient. Answered any and all questions, even if I had asked them already. And on the big day, from the moment we were led to the bridal room until the last guest left - everyone, and I mean everyone went above and beyond the call too make sure that it all went as smooth as possible. We had a couple of hiccups - more poor planning on our parts. But, they helped us through them with ease. They decorated the room in the colors the couple wanted, and made our wedding party look so elegant. I was extremely impressed. The grounds were beautiful! The gazebo ceremony was just breath taking. I can't wait too see all the pictures on the grounds and inside. The staff were impeccable, keeping everything going the way it was supposed to go. Friendly. Always smiling. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making my daughter and son-in-laws wedding the best start to a beautiful life. read more
