My service dog and I enjoy a dip in fresh water pond near Black bear Lodge,
    Doggypatchable ..

I have been coming to black Bear Lodge for the past 10 year and Waterville sense 1996 , came up here just for a couple days gateway after spending months with this pandemic, at home in Massachusetts and it's been great not to many people right now , but usually this place is bustling with people for ski season and fall scene and summer fun, it's my hideaway to just get away in the valley of the white mountains, and do some hiking. I have to say Black bear lodge is a bit behind as far as condos design, kinda still in the 90's as far as decor, but the staff do make up for it ,most of the units are owned by private owners that rent them out . Now I have to say front desk manger was great she and her staff as we arrived basically unloaded my car and transported my stuff right to my unit, and provided me anything I needed and stayed later for my arrival, and of course enjoyed getting doggy licks from my dog (service-dog) . And not realizing that at first unit had stairs going to our bedroom and bathroom was upstairs as well, as being disabled, they were very good at switching my unit to a all the same level with no problems. I recommend staying here anytime of the year. Cause it is a great private resort and a really special spot in the valley of the white mountains with many things to do for the whole family, and there is A new golf course that's been put in the last couple of years . And there's restaurants and little shops in the main village, post office book shop and country store etc. and a sports center as well,so the decor might be out dated but the people are kind and very helpful.and I definitely felt safe coming here, even when a pandemic going on .so with wearing mask and washing hands its ok , we're all in this together but with happy to keep a distance.here .

This place was awesome. The hot tub was so relaxing, the only downfall is the climbing wall next to the hot tub was subpar.

We were torn between cross country skiing and snowshoeing, but the Nordic Center has both options so we headed right over. With only about two hours of usable daylight, we asked the woman at the front desk what she thought would be more fun and a better use of the little time we had. She was helpful in that no-bones-about-it New England way "well, snowshoeing is like walking and cross country skiing is like skiing. But different." Oh. We chose skiing. They gave us our rentals and a trail map, demonstrated the bindings, and then sent us out into the wild. It was pretty easy for both of us to pick up (again for me, for the first time for her), and we had a blast swishing around the pond. The trails are well marked and the difficulties clearly labeled (also closed trails were obviously marked). Had we had more time, it would have been cool to check out the yurt, but we decided to hang close to the center as daylight was limited. We made two circuits around the pond loop in about an hour and a half (I recommend going left out of the center around that one, otherwise there's a pretty big hill that you'll have to un-clip and hike up) and came back happy and pleasantly worn out. Overall it was a great way to spend an afternoon and a fun learning experience for both of us. The equipment is in great condition, the trail system seems ample and well-mapped, and the prices are very fair. We love Waterville Valley.

The Nordic Center and trails are situated alongside a picturesque little town complete with bakeries, gift shops and an ice skating rink. With a wide variety of beginner through advanced trails, we were able to ski all day long and while some of the terrain was challenging, we were rewarded by delicious hot chocolate and brownies at the end of our ski. A favorite trail I would recommend is "Beanbender", a challenging climb straight up an old ski mountain with a rewarding view down the old ski lift into the valley and a great fast ski back down. I would recommend Waterville Valley to skiers of all ages who will be captivated by the beauty of the setting and enjoy the well-maintained trails.

The Gazebo was set up so pretty for the outdoor ceremony. Unfortunately, due to a last minute shower we moved inside to the Conference Center for the ceremony. They did such a great job to accomodate everything at the last minute and even managed to set up tables with pretty white table cloths. It was great to have the Conference Center there as a backup to our original plan. The reception in the tent was so much fun and so pretty. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it. It all came out hot and there were plenty of people serving and working at the bar. We can't say enough for how great we were treated by everyone that worked there. Everyone was so friendly and went out of their way to make us feel at ease and allowed us to enjoy the whole weekend. This was a great place to have a wedding as you could walk to everything and not worry about driving. This was such a relaxing weekend with plenty of time for visiting, recreation and relaxing. There were plenty of nice casual places to stay which added to the overall atmosphere of the weekend. We had a fun bonfire on Friday night and ended the weekend with a great breakfast/brunch on Sunday morning. It was a great way to start and end the weekend with a chance to get together casually. The Wedding Coordinator was so helpful and friendly. She had great ideas and was easy to work with. She went the extra mile to help us make this such a memorable weekend. Our friends and relatives are still talking about what a great time they had. This is such a unique property. It would be hard to find another place that offered so much.

On top, a new bar and a beautiful cafeteria complement the resort. Yes, the slow lifts are still there. But the slopes have something for everyone. From steeps to the old New England type narrow and winding ski runs with cross trails, to beautiful green runs for beginners. All in the midst of natural beauty. It is truly a pleasure to be here. And the best part is the people. The staff is amazing. From the ticket attendants, to the lift personnel, to groomers, to the cafeteria and the superb pub, Tenney is one amazing place devoted to customer satisfaction. And mmmm... Another best part. You can REALLY relax here and pursue the sport, whether skiing, boarding or tubing. Unlike other areas where I feel I have to have eyes in the back of my head looking for out-of-control Jerry's, Tenney gave me the feeling of pure enjoyment. We absolutely had no worries about someone careening into us, or bump their way into the line. It was just a superb ski experience. We will be here again.

Check-in was quick and easy. One thing I wasn't told, though, was that your room key is needed not only to use the elevator but also to activate the lights in your room. Thankfully, I've stayed at hotels with this feature before, or I probably would have been pretty confused. The resort is huge, so if you're bringing a lot of luggage, definitely grab a luggage cart. It'll save you from making multiple trips. I also reserved a room with what I thought would be two queen beds, but it turned out to be one queen bed and a pull-out couch. After a few nights on the pull-out mattress, my back was definitely feeling it. Another thing to know is that the in-room refrigerator doesn't have a freezer. Luckily, I brought my portable electric fridge/freezer cooler, so I just plugged it in on the balcony and kept all of our food in there. The outdoor grills are a great feature, and we cooked steaks a couple of nights. Just be aware there aren't any grilling utensils provided, so bring your own if you plan on cooking. We also had dogs staying next door that barked almost nonstop, especially whenever people walked down the hallway. It was a little annoying, but I'm a dog lover, so I wasn't going to complain. My room also felt on the smaller side. If we came back during snowboard season with all of our winter gear, I think space would be pretty tight. Now for the good... The resort is absolutely beautiful, spotless, and very well maintained. There's really no reason to leave the property. Between the winery, the upscale Italian restaurant, and the pub-style restaurant, there are plenty of great dining options. Both restaurants offer outdoor seating where you can enjoy food and drinks by the pool. The food was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. The pools and hot tubs are outstanding honestly, they're comparable to what you'd expect at a Disney resort. There are also tons of activities for kids, including poolside movies on a projection screen, arts and crafts, ice cream events, and guided hikes. It really feels like a place where families can make lasting memories. I don't usually work out while I'm on vacation, but the fitness center here is so nice that I had to use it. It's honestly the kind of gym I'd pay a membership for. I even took one of the spin classes, which was a great experience. The only thing I didn't see was a sauna. Maybe there is one somewhere on the property and I just couldn't find it, but if there isn't, that would be a huge missed opportunity especially during the winter months after a long day on the slopes. I'll definitely be coming back, and I could honestly see myself buying a timeshare here someday. The only thing that surprised me was that no one ever asked if I wanted a tour or gave me a sales pitch. I don't know if they just aren't pushing timeshare sales as hard as other resorts, but I was expecting to at least be asked. Overall: 4.5/5 stars. A few small improvements would make this place nearly perfect, but it's an outstanding family resort and one I'd happily recommend.

On March 11, 2026 when I write this review they had one lift and barely two runs open from the midstation. The slopes that were half open were half covered with snow. This is when all of their competitors had ample snow and had almost all their slopes open (not glades but that's always hit or miss). When we asked for a refund the manager smirked and made comments about their policies and basically blamed us for not reading the report from the day before. So when Cannon gives you dangerous conditions and one twentieth of the area open they say too bad and that's our policy lump it. Incredible. The state of NH that runs this mountain is running it like the Motor Vehicle Registry. This was the second time I was there and absolutely the last. Such a shame. They couldn't even acquire Mittersill correctly. Cannon is the worst ski experience I have had in my life and the people who run it make it even worse and that's difficult to do but they aced it! If I was the NH governor I would fire everyone who was working at Cannon today based on total incompetence.
