Tenney is certainly that community mountain you are looking to ski at. I finally invested in uphill touring equipment and Tenney is one place I have wanted to climb. Came here first weekend in April and even after 60 degrees and rain the day before there were minimal trail grass hazards, even the woods were full of snow. Got to the top and ski patrol marked my day pass (which I bought anyways) for one free chairlift ride up. Ski patrol did a fantastic job informing everyone getting off the lift that there was white ice hazards from the rain that froze over. Wess who I talked to multiple times throughout the day was very informative and made my day that much better. Would highly recommend making some turns here when you are looking for advanced terrain.

Tenney Mountain is hands down my favorite mountain ever. Yes, it is smaller than places like Killington, Sunday River, or Sugarbush. It's even smaller than Attitash. However, the trails are VERY interesting, fun, and some are quite challenging. I managed to find the slopes here interesting even after three years (in a row) of having a season pass! It's along the lines of Pico Mountain, which is the little sister of Killington. For you beginners, there's a separate beginning area so the expert skiiers aren't darting between you. Don't worry, it's a quick shuttle ride or walk from the base lodge. There's also a green circle or two from the top! For you blue square lovers, there's, um, plenty of blue squares to love. For you experts, there are some awesome glades, and some steep blacks. Lots of double fall lines. For you non-skiiers, there are condos on the slopes, and a nice lodge with small bar. Apparently the Exploration Schools of Eastern Mountain Sports are now offering programs at White Mountain Exploration, so you can snow shoe, cross country ski, sled, and more. The mountain has changed ownership more times than Britney changes hair styles, but it's done nothing but improve the place. Best of all, ticket prices are reasonable - just $45 for adults (!!!!). But even better, the mountain is under two hours from Massachusetts! The website: http://www.tenneymtn.com/skiing/index.php

Grooming was great, no ice, no surprises. Fun to use edges.

Prices are not too bad (if compared to Killington) and the slopes are well maintained. The people there helped to put on and take off my ski boots (which is always a hassle after being exhausted from the day). I wish I lived closer because this place was perfect. They have a food court with quick options, a bar with a more elaborate menu, and an indoor and outdoor fire pit. Their bar/restaurant Perley's is where we had lunch. My only complaint was the prices for this place. $25 for a cheese burger and fries is criminal. I would stick with the foodcourt instead of bar food.

The resort is owned by the venerable Woodstock Inn, a gem of national distinction. And the upscale air is evident in the friendliness and poise of the staff at Saskadena. A huge lodge with historical pictures everywhere, including memorializing the first motorized life transportation in the US, a 900 foot rope tow built in 1934. Formerly named Suicide Six, the resort centers around a modern yet charming lodge with a huge hearth, a bustling cafeteria, and a well stocked bar. The resort is a scant eight minute ride from the beautiful town of Woodstock, where the Rockefeller and Billings legacy is still visible. Parking at Saskadena Six is not an issue, the parking areas are close to the lodge and a ramp takes the visitor to the lodge area. Saskadena Six has been a part of the Indy Pass for a few years now, and it has become a family favorite. Entering the lodge, one can perform ticket purchases inside or outside. Donning boots and equipment is done in benches and chairs in the lodge, with inside cubicles around the walls. The lodge has plate glass windows on its entire slope facing side, providing beautiful views of the ski area. Once ready to hit the slopes, the nearest lift is the fixed quad that takes the visitor to the 1,200 foot summit. The resort has a 650-foot vertical drop, featuring 24 runs on 100 acres.. Besides the quad, Saskadena sports a double lift on the far side of the resort, and a J-bar. The challenging Show Off run is a steep, mogul filled track, while The Face and Crystal are parallel black diamonds. Several other runs feature both natural, groomed and mogul filled. Saskadena Six usually gets 110 inches of yearly snow, augmented by a vigorous snowmaking system. Dining at Saskadena Six is quick and efficient. A roped off area separates the alcohol-served areas from the rest of the lodge. Several local brews are on tap, as well as national selections. Skiing Saskadena is a pleasure. Small but quite pleasant, devoid of the stress of the larger ski areas in New England. Its history and charm are welcome assets in an industry where sterility seems to be popular. Terrain is rated 30% beginner, 40% intermediate and 30% advanced.

While their lift tickets can be a bit pricy, hitting them up during the shoulder seasons can help with affordability. I've been here in both early winter and late spring and found the trails to be in good condition! As someone who sticks to the greens with an occasional blue mixed in, their trails offer enough variety to keep me entertained throughout the day. I like having my pick of 4 chairlifts and a gondola to check out different sections of the mountain. On my last visit, there was a very challenging weather day the day before my visit and it was clear the staff were hard at work overnight to groom the trails. Throughout the day, they were actively working to open additional trails (at which they were very successful) as well as firing the snow machines to get other parts of the mountain open as soon as possible. The lower lodge is straightforward, offering plenty of seating to change into your ski boots and eat a meal. The food is pricy but we always try to make sure we have options out in the car to manage our costs throughout the day. That isn't unique to this ski resort of course though. The upper lodge at the top of the gondola is nice as well. Unlike the lower lodge, their bathrooms are on the same level as the entrance so no having to manage stairs in clunky boots. Gorgeous views of Mount Washington from the peak! Worth it on a bluebird day!

So when Cannon gives you dangerous conditions and one twentieth of the area open they say too bad and that's our policy lump it. Incredible. The state of NH that runs this mountain is running it like the Motor Vehicle Registry. This was the second time I was there and absolutely the last. Such a shame.
