Stopped in after seeing the fish sandwich, so we had to try it. We first checked out the actual lodge, which didn't really strike me as special on the inside. There's a fancy (expensive) restaurant on the inside. We then proceeded down to the boathouse for the casual restaurant, hitting it mid-afternoon so it wasn't too busy. It's fun inside and has a good sized menu. We got fish sandwiches plus fries (expensive - I think it was $22 for the sandwich and $7 for fries), and our little one got a grilled cheese and a freshly squeezed lemonade. We sat out at a table on the dock. The fish sandwiches, apart from being really big, weren't that good. They fry them with the skins on - why? And they really didn't have much flavor. Fries were...fries. Grilled cheese also wasn't anything to write home about. Lemonade was really good. So all in all, I enjoyed the experience but I don't think I'll ever feel the need to return. read more

We're having family come into town for a bit of a reunion this spring and were looking around for a place to gather that showed off the beauty of CO. After having visited the lodge and loving the views of the lake, we tried to book an event there for a family gathering in the fall. Not anything big. 15-ish people for 4 hours. No other needs from them beyond the location. Two major issues came up: 1) It took 3 MONTHS of back and forth with their event coordinator, Anne, to try to lock it in. It felt like she actively didn't want our business. Finally got a date and quote of $600 for 4 hours. After another couple of weeks of prodding her, was finally on the verge of getting the contract. I think. Except... 2) In that time, my fiancé and I thought it'd be good to just say our vows during the family gathering since we'd have folks out here anyway. Save everyone a second trip. I mentioned this to Anne and she raised the quoted price from $600 to $2500 site fee, a mandatory $1500 minimum catering charge, and requirements to work with one of their dedicated coordinators which was even more $$$ on top of that. To reiterate, absolutely nothing had changed on our needs from the original quote except now they considered it a "wedding" which they apparently price gouge on. Good thing there's no end of beautiful locations in the area for a family gathering. Note: Yelp removed this review saying it wasn't for this location. I'm guess Suttle Lake tried to lie to Yelp to take it down. It was this location (Sisters, OR). Maybe treat potential customers better in the future and you won't get poor reviews. And since this occurrence, my fiancé and I were happily married elsewhere. read more

Review is just for the bar/restaurant. Popped in here for a late lunch after hiking Black Butte. Had heard good things about their food and wanted to treat myself while on a little Central Oregon vacation, and boy am I glad I did. The main lodge area is simultaneously cozy and trendy, complete with a fireplace amongst lots of wood architecture and modern furniture. It gave me Society Hotel vibes, for those familiar. I went for the "famous" (it was featured in the Eater's Guide to the World Hulu series hosted by Maya Rudolph) fish sandwich. It was quite spendy but worth it for a splurge. It was quite a bit of food and delicious, and that's coming from someone who is not the biggest fan of seafood. Kind of wish it came with some of fries or another side for the price but what can ya do. I didn't get a drink but the cocktails looked great. Recommend putting your phone away, grabbing one of the many coffee table books they have stacked up, and enjoying the fire and the peace. I went for a hike around Suttle Lake afterwards which was also great. Lots of birds on the water and saw a Bald Eagle swooping. I noticed lots of cabins, campsites, picnic areas, swimming holes, canoes/kayaks, etc. Overall looks like an awesome place to actually spend time. This establishment is an amazing refuge from the storm. I stubbled upon this super cool and quaint destination after a cold and rainy fall Monday. As I walked into the lodge I was invited to stay for a lodge concert with three kickass bands. The food and libations were of the highest quality and the staff and ambiance were just as evenly matched. I am so grateful for the experience and sweet vibe this business has created and to share during this crazy Covid time. Hats off to all the great people at Suttle Lodge & Boathouse. This is for the little Boat House eating area. Apparently the "Lodge" dining area is not available for lunch. We went to the lodge first, but he referred us to the boat house. I definitely would not recommend or go back again. You would be better advised to go 5 more miles to Clear Lake Resort, or the 10 minutes it takes to go back to Black Butte Resort. Those places have burgers and sandwiches with fries or a side that are less expensive, taste better, and have a much nicer ambiance. Here's what you get at the Boat Ouse at Suttle Lake. Orders are taken at the register. Orders are ala carte. Prices are high. ($13 for a burger only, $17 for a turkey and ham sandwich) Food is VERY mediocre and served in a cardboard food boat. Seat yourself. Serve yourself after they yell out your number from the counter. Get your own water, napkins and plastic utensils. Then you are requested to bus your own tables. Obviously not a restaurant. Just a plain little fast food place with restaurant prices. read more

Ok... This place is beautiful and nice. I would give it a 5/5 if they improved on three things. Let's talk about the good parts of this hotel first. This isn't a hotel. It is a actual lodge. There's only 10-12 rooms and they all meet in a center area. There is a beautiful view from outside and plenty of space for multiple large groups Rooms are great and let you disconnect from screens and enjoy playing outside Now let's talk about the bad. The customer service sucked. We had a bat in our room and when we told them they said "there's nothing we can do about that". If is extremely rustic. While it can be nice, even holding a call is brutal. Plus, BRING A COOLER!!! There is no fridges or anything other than beds and plumbing (toilet, shower, sink.). Plus you get REALLY hot when sleeping if there's more than 3 people in the room. Everything is expensive. Food is crazy expensive. Rooms are super expensive for having nothing. Rentals are expensive for what they are. Everything is pricey. Honestly I would come here again. I would come slightly better prepared, maybe bring a fan, but it was fun. I absolutely love Suttle Lodge, they're in the process of updating some things as well. Sadly, I wish they had AC in the rooms, but that being said, I guess i'll just opt to stay there when I can count on the evenings being cool, or when we're not in the middle of a ridiculously historic heat wave! The bed was really comfortable but I'd say the room definitely had a rustic ambiance. The place was under renovations so the main restaurant was not open but the boat house cafe was. The boat house had some surprisingly yummy choices, and they also had a tiny store with great essentials available for legitimate prices. The deck with it's view of the lake, and the trails and amenities around the lake make this a really laid back, magical place, with a sweet professional helpful team of folks who are all about helping you make the most of your time with them. read more

If you haven't had the "crunchy vegetables," I swear you haven't lived yet. I'm normally a burger girl and for whatever reason the veggies were calling me this day. I ordered a burger too but after seeing the veggie plate that I literally thought would just be store bought carrots and celery, My mouth was watering with every bite... i no longer cared about the burger (I'm sure it was good too!). It came with radishes, cherry tomatoes, snap peas, Jicama, boiled eggs, micro greens. I'm pretty sure they went out back and pulled everything straight if out the garden and it was all perfectly drizzled in some sort of oil and sprinkled with salt and pepper. That shit was FRESH. To top it off, their homemade ranch I'm sure was made by Gordon Ramsey himself. If mouth orgasms are a thing, I'm certain I had one. I literally haven't stopped talking about these veggies since I had them. I'm literally more interested in the vegetable platter than I am the lake now. Spent two nights at the lodge last weekend with my wife and dogs. We loved just about everything about this place. Awesome room, good food, fun grounds to hang out on. It has to be the nicest lodge and dining experience in the Deschutes National Forest. We will be returning. Lots of reviewers said the staff here was rude. Personally, I think it was a bit of a mix. Some were friendly and some were not overtly friendly but it didn't affect our stay one way or the other. The food is fairly upscale, but certain menu items need some tweaking. Arugula on literally everything, and I'm not at all a fan of arugula. They do let you customize your order, so we just did that. Helped a lot. read more

Wine on the Deck was a bust for us. Long story short they ran out of the most expensive wine before they got to us. So, we have very small pours of the porch pounder stuff and then boom... "we're sorry, the $70 a bottle reserve wine we don't have any more". We were all just looking at each other. I thought some might start crying openly. We were nice to the server but grumbled under our breath a bit. Some friends sat across from us on the deck and two of the guys immediately went to the snack bar to buy fries and some sliders for their whole group even though this was to be paired with food. Friggin geniuses, when I left there hungry an hour later. We called them a week later just to give them a heads up that we paid almost $500 and didn't even get a small buzz or any of the good wine! WTH? They said, "oh thanks and I am glad you enjoyed the view"... OK lol. We live here because we enjoy the view. We pay $500 for wine and some snacks because we love wine. This should just be a warning that maybe they are making too much money to care but at the very least they should have offered us some more crap wine or a partial refund. Won't go back and I hope to keep some folks that are not AMAZED and blown away by the "view". Which you don't need to pay for by the way... Bring your own wine and go to the lake. If you are from a big city...pay the money and get what they give you. Otherwise spend your $$$ somewhere else. read more

Restaurant Review: tried out the lodge restaurant on a Sunday night after canoeing late into the day. It was easier to eat here than travel to Eugene and risk becoming hungry on the way home. We tried the onion rings ($4), grandpa's burger ($8), and grandma's beef stew ($10). It is somewhat of an awkward experience trying to order dinner at this location. The menu is above the counter where water glasses are stored. You essentially have to stand behind people sitting at the bar until the waitress is available and notices you. It feels strange to order in the otherwise quiet lodge over people's heads. It would be nice for them to have a different set up for ordering, with one bartender and another person available to take food orders. Maybe they were short staffed, or maybe they always only have one person available outside of the kitchen staff. Regardless, we ordered, took our #, and sat in the outdoor seating. Food came relatively quickly, about 10 minutes. Food was hot and seemingly fresh. I actually really loved my grandma's beef stew. It had arugula on top of the stew and a cheesy bread to use to sop up every last drop. It was lovely. Burgers seemed pretty basic, nothing fancy, but appetizing and filling. The onion rings were so good we ordered a second round of it. I'm sure my stomach will thank me for that later, but at the moment it was totally worth it. Wait staff bus your table for you, but it can start to look a little messy in the outside area when the wait staff get busy. In the future, we would probably eat here again out of convenience's sake. Cabin Review: we stayed in a Rustic cabin for tow nights. From what I've seen online, rates for cabins can be between $88-$125/night. The exterior of the cabin is adorable, and the photos of the interior looked adequate. Linens and towels were actually free of charge, but one front desk staff said they would eventually start charging $25 in the future. Linens included really cozy Pendleton blankets and really plush pillows. So far, pretty impressed. Cabin was well insulated, floorboard heaters worked really well, and I didn't ever get cold at night in late October. We didn't realize from the photos that the bunk beds were crammed in the same room as the queen bed. The room with the futon had a small table and open space. It seemed rather inconvenient that there were no wall hooks or any place to hang jackets, towels, or keys. Fire rings are shared, not every one cabin has a personal one. Actually, cabin #7 (the one we had) didn't have a fire ring anywhere near. We had to use the fire ring near a larger cabin that was unoccupied during our stay. Shower room at the bathhouse was awesome! Hot water, heated room, and Castile soap available. It feels like a series of small changes could really elevate this lodge to a great experience. Lodge staff were unavailable after 5pm which seems strange for a hotel cabin experience. Who do we talk to if there's some emergent need? Soap dispensers were often empty in the bathhouse, our friend who stayed with us said it seemed the bathhouse seemed to be not as well maintained or as clean as a previous stay. Overall, this place has a lovely aesthetic, hipster vibe, and beautiful outdoor scenery. I hope they continue to do well and also improve. read more

I vehemently object to this place. I would give it zero stars. We rented a "rustic" cabin. And for over $100 a night, we had access to ONE gross shower that serviced all of the cabins (there's maybe 8 cabins that can sleep 3 people) and very few very old restrooms that have seen better days. The cabin was full of cobwebs, with an utterly ridiculous maid tip envelope - what maid? Where? They do not provide linens unless you pay them extra (?!) so watch out for bed bugs. We came home with them. The highlight for us was the numerous unpleasant interactions my husband had with the desk clerk at The Lodge. We forgot our can opener, so he asked her if they happen to have one we could borrow - her response? "oh everything we make here is fresh so we don't open any cans". Ha! Of course, there's one you can purchase there. They charge for absolutely everything there. For me, camping at a State Park is much more pleasant, affordable, and reasonable in terms of updated and adequate facilities. I would stay away from this overpriced resort. read more

I'm willing to overlook the poorly executed menu that my boyfriend, Joshua McFadden dreamed up (but did not serve) for the absolute serenity of Suttle Lodge. We felt like we were home. We kicked off our boots, snuggled up next to the window, ordered whiskey drinks and played battleship while the sun set. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. Carly at the front desk helped us organize snowshoes and filled us in on the recent renovation. We missed the guest chef from the previous night, but fully support this PR push and hope it continues next winter. After one luxurious night stay, I found myself Googling "Ace Hotel Mattress" and "Ace Hotel Pillows". This place is a freaking dream. We took a jaccuzi bath before snuggling up in the beautiful down blankets and woke to the sun beaming across the snow and lake. We made French pressed coffee in our room and quietly thanked Cathy for the half and half she put in Tupperware for us the night before. We read poems and felt such gratitude for this lodge and this quiet, spectacular space. We will be back in summer for the cartwheels, bbq and cannonballs. You have our hearts, Suttle Lodge. I should start off by clarifying I did not stay the night here but I did visit back in May for a show they were putting on. I've been a fan of Dan Andriano for years so when I saw he was playing here I knew I had to check it out, and I've still been thinking about how magical this place was since then. It's absolutely beautiful, surrounded by trees with a really nice outside sitting area looking over the water. The bar was great and I can't even fully express how friendly the people working there were! If I remember correctly, this was their first time trying to put something on like this but you wouldn't have been able to tell. It was very intimate and felt like I was really experiencing something special. I don't know if they've done anything like this since, but I hope they have or at least plan to in the future because I'd love another excuse to visit this wonderful place again. read more

Because of that pesky debilitating virus, things are less than optimal these days as far as restaurants go. We like to hike from Camp Sherman up to Suttle Lake for a nice cold beer at the end of the trail. Nice and cold, sitting outside with a good breeze off the lake. Recently, they had a barbecue option for dinner. We got lucky and got the last 4 plates. But, I have to tell ya, for $20 we got only 2 beef ribs, a plop of potato salad and 1/3 of a corn cob. I feel okay with that mainly because everybody in this business is suffering, but, I also was disappointed. Food is mediocre while setting is magnificent! read more

Stayed two nights in a deluxe cabin. Very nice cabin - except - NO PLACE TO SIT! Two beds in the living room - no couch, no chairs, etc. And - essentially no heat. Very nice gas fireplace but lived at 59 degrees while the thermostat was set at 71 degrees. Very basic - how about a coffee maker? Some dish washing detergent? A comfortable chair at the dinette table? Etc. Enjoyed the lodge EXCEPT - there is not a comfortable chair in the place! Heard complaint after complaint. Spent two days in meetings and meals w/o a reasonably comfortable chair. On the positive side - service and food were very good. read more

We stayed at the Blue Bay Campground. We just stopped here for one night. Unfortunately it was very smoky from the nearby wildfires. Nice campsites though. Close enough to the resort to walk there via the trail around the lake. The resort was nice, the lodge looks amazing and we had a draft beer and some snacks at the Boathouse. The resort rents boats, kayaks, cabins and lodge rooms. We brought our own kayaks and launched from the little boat launch that is near the campsite. We walked part way around the lake, probably half and it is a very nice, well kept trail. This time of year, August, there were lots of yellow-jackets...bring your trap! There is another campground on Suttle Lake called South Shore. It looks bigger than this one, Blue Bay, but it is further away from the lodge/resort. We stayed in site #22. I stayed in the lodge in the upstairs king rooms with a loft with my husband and 5-year old. The room was cute, cleanish (this place is deep in the woods so seeing a moth or 2 and a few cobwebs seemed reasonable rustic accommodations, considering everything else was clean). The dark-blue room had comfortable beds, large windows, a small, practical shower and all the cedar-woody toiletries one could want when staying at an Ace Hotel. The large communal room provided comfy chairs and tables for board game playing and eating and drinking refreshments from the full bar. We ate at the Boathouse breakfast, lunch and dinner and the food was INCREDIBLE! If you get breakfast, the HASHBROWN is a must-have. We also loved the breakfast sandwich, the grits (w/sausage and greens), the pancakes.... all blew our minds. The BLT, burger, hot dog, onion rings, fries- all so yummy! I was a little disappointed with the fish and chips sandwich- salmon dredged in a potato chip crust didn't deliver as I hoped. I think cod or halibut might have been a better fish choice, but it still was great quality (just not my thing). The first night we got to see live music on the lawn. What a great vibe and so much fun. We had a blast! We hiked the lake loop, rented a paddle board, and drove into Sisters for some shopping before returning home. We will be back to this lodge!! This lodge is fantastic!! They have delicious food and they have craft cocktails (which is impressive for a lodge that feels remote). The rooms were clean and cozy. My boyfriend and I had a blissful time. The only feedback we have is that the moment you walk through the front doors, you think it's under construction because of this big canvas mural that's immediately showcased at the entrance. It's made by a great artist but it's off putting for an outsider. read more

Went for the Groupon, it's an awesome deal. 2nights, 2desserts at the restaurant on the premise, 4 drink tickets for their wine and cheese social, choice of either snowshoe rental or gift basket and a $100 spa credit all for less than $300. We stayed in the lodge and the room was quite nice. It was a double, the beds were nice but a bit on the firm side, even for my taste. There is a fireplace in the room for heat, the vanity part of the bathroom opens into the room but has its own baseboard heater, and the bathroom with the shower also has its own heater. You can easily stay perfectly warm and cozy. I appreciated that. Also, there are lots of little touches that make it even more cozy, I especially loved the coffee press. I pretty much used that thing nonstop. The downside to the room was that we definitely heard our neighbors. What a rude awakening on Saturday morning. Also, it was quite awkward. The grounds are pretty. You can easily walk the trail around the lake. We did that, it was beautiful we even saw a rainbow. It's quite windy as the wind rips along the river valley. I image windsurfing or whatever would be pretty fun there. We hung around the room and the common area in the lodge. It was very relaxing and I was able to get some work done on a project as well. I adore the Lodge at Suttle Lake! We bought a Groupon to this place, despite my skepticism. (I'd gone to Wallowa Lake Lodge last summer, and was less than impressed). I have to say, Suttle Lake Lodge is fabulous, and everything I fantasize about in a lodge. Gorgeous, spacious rooms with a beautiful view. A bathroom with a soaking tub for two. An enormous lounge in 'exotic' (well, to me) Oregon lodge-furniture, wood carvings, etc. Wine tastings. A restaurant on site. A great trail around the lake that's very doable for even the most wimpy of hikers (i.e. us). There's also internet and a TV, which not all of these lodges include. My only complaints: The luxury goodie basket promised in the groupon was kind of lame, it consisted mostly of things like airline packet style trail mix. It also took a long time for reception to acknowledge us after we came in, though they were otherwise friendly and helpful. The food in the on-site restaurant is reasonable but not stellar. Overall the lodge is great though, and if I were just rating the room and building, I would certainly give it 5 stars. I can't wait to go back, it's worth the price even without a Groupon. read more

This review is based on staying in a lodge room, not the cabins. Rooms are huge, nicely furnished, very comfortable, with nice amenities, but heads up: there is no good coffee to be had! Pour over coffee in rooms is a disposable filter contraption that breaks and the coffee is bitter and really bad. There is no cream or sugars provided. The only place to purchase coffee on the grounds is The Boathouse, which means you have to get dressed and walk outside to a different building, and wait until they open. Their coffee was not very good and the cups were small. We were surprised that coffee is not provided in the lobby of the lodge, or at least a more plentiful, better tasting, easier to use system in the rooms. Good, freshly ground, bulk coffee in a canister with a Melitta cone pour over with filters and some creamers would suffice, rather than this, stale, paper pour over. When staying at a fairly expensive, mountain lake lodge in the PNW, one would expect better. One other comment, the staff here was a mix. We had one very attentive waiter repeatedly during our three night stay, but honestly, the rest of the staff was not friendly and really didn't seem to care much about us and our experience here. Service was minimal. I'm hearing that good employees are difficult to find since COVID, so maybe that's what's going on. I would come again for the setting, but I think this beautiful place can do much better. But mostly, we really enjoyed our stay. read more
