If you want a little slice of Austin, TX in Lafayette, then come on in. I got the large, iced Americano. Smooth and very stout. My girl got the vanilla latte, she said it was just right. Not too sweet or too bitter. I munched on the Pork perfection, Scotch egg and the turkey croissant. Pork was heavy but an interesting eat. The turkey was near perfection, light and non greasy. Great spot for iced coffee and beignets as well lunch. Good selection of both espresso drinks and lunch options.

Food: The food here was great, it was reasonably priced, tasty, and you can tell things are made fresh. I definitely recommend the coffee, specifically the frozen coffee, it's sweet but just the right amount of sweetness so you can actually taste the coffee without the feeling you'll get diabetes from a few sips like you get with Starbucks. The Black Cafe is the "Home of the Scottish Egg" so we got 2 out of 3 choices which were the "Which Came First" (chicken breast) and the "Pork Perfection" (pork sausage). Both eggs were delicious, the chicken was very moist and nicely seasoned but our favorite of the two had to be the pork which was more flavorful than the chicken. Service: Service at the the Black Cafe is excellent, they were polite and friendly. I had a small issue but they apologized, and they corrected it immediately making my experience pleasant. If I could have given this place SIX stars, I would have! Quaint little place with a unique menu and the nicest guy (owner) ever! We had Scotch eggs, potato and pork, with sweet potato biscuits and halved a breakfast sandwich. Everything was spot on and this guy brought us some hot beignets and banana bread just to try! Because it's gotten so much hype from my Lafayette friends on facebook, Black Cafe was at the top of my "to try" list when we visited for Christmas. I couldn't have been more pleased. The coffee is outstanding, and the fresh-made food options are delicious and affordable. Sweet potato biscuits for 85 cents! Three different kinds of scotch eggs! Beignets! Plus, they serve delicious breakfast sandwiches, salads, and other lunch options. I loved having a coffee shop that offered quality coffee AND food in Lafayette. In fact, I went back every day that it was open. Black Cafe is located a little bit out of the way in a new development in Fightinville, across the street from the Lafayette Public Library on Congress. It's worth the extra minute drive... We stopped off here on our trip from Houston to New Orleans. 2 miles off route, but very worth it. The best ices chai tea latte I've had in a while. Had 3 picky kids with me, and they not only found something to eat, they all enjoyed it. Staff was very pleasant. Good quality food. read more

This is my fault really I wanted to try a new place with the fam and saw Black Cafe on yelp. I went with several family members this morning and the coffee is delicious! We also had beignets, scotch eggs and breakfast sandwiches they were very good. However I could we that their normal food orders were for 1 or 2 people at a time. Our party of 8 kinda put the staff in the weeds . It's a super hipster / hippie kind of place and we really didn't fit in. I was under the impression it was more of an eating spot. So if your too cool for school with a small party and want to grab and go this place is for you. But, if you have a bunch of folks and want to sit you might want to go else where. read more

I wish that I had decided to try Black Café sooner. As queer person of color this coffee shop has an open and inviting atmosphere and is owned and operated by a person of color. It is an encouraging place to visit with an urban but easy going atmosphere. They make a good cup of coffee and though I have not tried the food it looks really good. It is a much needed downtown balance to the hipster only cafes that are beginning to dominate Lafayette's coffee scene. I highly recommend this place if you wish to support diversity in Lafayette. read more

Lafayette is severely challenged as far as coffee shops are concerned. Black is one of the few deserving of consideration. The coffee is decent (could be stronger) and the staff is friendly. The snacks and sweets are excellent. Black is probably the only place for a few hundred miles where you can find a Scotch Egg, and it's a damned good one.
