Tony owner of Black Cafe. Doesn't he look like Eugene Levy, star of Shitts Creek tv series.

Feb. 22, 2020 Want to visit Schitts Creek in upstate NY? Historic Sharon Springs was full of tourists today. It is last week of "Rose Apothecary" (modified store front/pop up of actual 1802 Beekman Shop) honoring final season of Schitts Creek TV series. Tony Daou, owner of nearby Black Cat Cafe, inspired tribute to Schitts Creek because he looks like the star of show Eugene Levy who plays Johnny Rose. Check out resemblance! The Black Cat was crazy busy on a nice Feb. day, but Tony honored our 1:00 reservation. He took our order and and answered a couple of questions about the food. The Thanksgiving Everyday Sandwich I ordered was terrific and worthy of a return visit! It was Fresh roasted turkey, a smear of cranberries, and (drum roll) a 2 inch layer of delicious dressing. Also enjoyed--tasty Stuffed Grape Leaves, popular house made Hummus, the legendary Curry Chicken Salad, and a Turkey Reuben. The Chicken Salad was the best ever I was told. (I did not have any because I do not like raisins in my chicken salad.) For dessert, we indulged in slices of the signature Coconut Cake which lived up to its reputation. We enjoyed cups of full bodied fresh coffee and Harney Teas. After lunch, we visited the "Rose Apothecary" -- the popular Beekman shop disguised with a tribute to Schitts Creek sign. Liked the trendy decor which lived up to high Beekman design standards as expected. Photos of the interior are attached.

Wife and I drove over from Glenville to checkout the Beekman place, checked out a couple more stores along Main St before deciding to have lunch. This was the only place available that we saw and decided to drop on in. It's small and a little cramped but very nice, picked our table and were able to order our drinks and lunch rather quickly, they were a bit busy. Wife ordered the BLT and I got the Thanksgiving sandwich... Wow, neither of us were disappointed although she thought her blt had too much mayo but enjoyed it anyway. The Thanksgiving sandwich was outstanding, an actual turkey breast and not your run of the mill boars head deli slice variety. We also got the blaak & Mac which I liked but the wife didn't. Do agree with previous reviewers that chips, pickle or something should come with the sandwiches. Having said that, we hoped to make a return visit in the not too distant future. We're fans of the Black Cat, young lady did an excellent job with the service, great with the refills.

Just had lunch here with my daughter for the first time. Great service (owner and server)! Great food! Super desserts and I loved the full coffee/tea bar. So nice inside as well! All the soups are vegan before adding meat and they have no problem telling you what is and isn't vegan, if that's your thing like my daughter. Really love this place! The Gorgo salad was divine too! My daughter had the hummus platter.

If waiting an eternity for an $11 sandwich that looked like it was made in a jr. high home ec class is how you want to spend your afternoon, this is your place. #lunchfail

I ordered a few sandwiches to go. The owner was both friendly and helpful. The sandwiches were delicious.

The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing while you're surrounded by nature. The store is charming and has something for everyone inside. I've only been for lunch both times, but I can't wait to return for dinner for a cocktail on the patio. One of my new favorites for sure.

I'm giving this 3 stars due to service, not for the food. The food was excellent. Let me share why…read moreI'm giving it the 3 on service. We are not local, we are literally traveling through town to head south back to our home in NC after a 3 week road trip to Maine. We don't know the area at all , so we used Yelp to help find a place to eat a very late lunch. Nothing within an hour of here had great reviews and the ones that had okay reviews all seemed sketchy when we pulled into their parking lots. We then found this place. Yelp claimed it was open until 5. Google said 6. We arrived and saw 2 people sitting inside. I asked the cashier in the restaurant because the sign on the door said they close at 4 and it was 3:45. She said we could still eat. I even asked if she needed us to take it to go, she said no, it would be fine. We felt super uncomfortable the whole time. The young blond hair 20(ish) year old gentleman was very friendly with us. He was also helping the older women sitting by us that were wrapping things up. He gets 5 stars from us, he was fantastic. The young ladies that were working, and there were maybe 4 or 5 of them coming in and out of the kitchen and such, gave a bad vibe to a place that is probably usually really cool. They all acted frustrated and irritated with us. One girl mumbled something to the young gentleman about what we ordered like it was a hassle, but he quickly responded that our Caesar salad and panini were easy peasy and he could go make them. I'm not upset, however, a little irritated because I do understand we went in at closing, but I asked if it was okay to still order, and even told the girl it was not a big deal if they were closing and we could not order because we are typically not the people who do this. She said it was okay, so if those employees were to be irritated with anyone, it should be the girl who told us it was okay to order. Final thoughts, food was great, just don't arrive within 15-20 minutes before closing otherwise you might get glares, feel super uncomfortable, and have to eat fast like we did.

We arrived right when they opened at 10 a.m. and were seated immediately, which was great. We initially considered sitting inside, but the smell of eggs was so overwhelming/nauseating that we opted for outdoor seating instead. The patio was charming and cozy. The service was friendly, attentive, and one of the highlights of our visit. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to expectations. We all ordered the brunch tower, which included a "fruit salad" that consisted of squishy grapes, sour Granny Smith apple chunks, and canned mandarin oranges. The fruit tasted low quality and unappetizing, and I only managed a few bites. I also ordered the bananas foster crepe, which was severely overcooked. The crepe was so tough that I needed a knife to cut through it, and the texture was far from what I would expect from a crepe. Overall, while the service was pleasant and seating was prompt, the food quality left a lot to be desired, especially considering the price point.
