If you're looking for a basic, classic diner experience in, or near Cobleskill, you can't get much more spot-on than the Cobleskill Diner. We were visiting a relative in town and my wife, son and I took him for a late lunch at the diner. (Which we treated as breakfast, served all day. We were seated at a booth near the entrance...the upholstery needed a little help, and overall the place could use a little sprucing up. There's advertising on everything...the placemats, the coffee mugs, the glasses. At first, I thought it was a retro decor style choice until I realized all of these were featuring current local business ads. The coffee was okay. I've had worse but there was some flavor in it so it was a step above the "browned water" you can get at other places. The food was good enough for a classic diner experience. Not elevated in any way, but classic dishes served, well, classically. The breakfast potatoes were good and I was happy they were able to do egg whites without any question or up-charge in my breakfast. Portion sizes were okay. My teenage son needed to ask for an additional piece of French toast with his meal as he was still hungry after finishing the initial serving (with eggs and potatoes) We can chalk that up to a teenage appetite. I think the sweet-spot of the Cobleskill diner is the prices. They're low. You can get the same meal at diners in other places for twice the price. The only standout here was the ice cream--everything else needs serious improvement, especially considering the prices being charged. We ordered a simple breakfast, and it was disappointing across the board. The eggs were nothing special, and in an area like Cobleskill, you would expect the use of local, pasture-raised eggs with rich orange yolks--not the pale, generic ones that were served. The potatoes were undercooked, which is a basic mistake no diner should be making. The only item that was done right was the toast--and that's hard to mess up. The coffee was also below par. A good diner should serve enjoyable, fresh coffee, especially since it's such a staple of the experience. This one missed the mark. Another issue is the payment setup. Customers are required to pay at the front, which creates unnecessary congestion and people blocking the entrance. Paying at the table would make for a much smoother and more comfortable experience. After visiting many diners across New York State, this one ranks near the bottom. With some improvements to food quality, sourcing, and service flow, it could be much better--but as it stands, it's not worth the price. read more

If I can leave A0I would. We have been going to the diner for years. But over the past 2 years, service has gone downhill. We went in there today. Because my uncle loves their omelets. I got the chop steak. First problem was, it came out completely raw. Then the microwaved it the plate came out about 400° and the meat had that rancid taste to it. The waitress staff offered another meal and did everything she could to make the situation right? But once you start eating nasty food, there's no reason to continue. It is down 12:42 in the morning and I am still throwing up from My lunch, we were there two o'clock. Rewatch the cook or whatever she is go out and smoke at least 4 times i. The hour we were therr.. Mind you, I have grown up in the area, and we have been going there since the early nineties in the past couple years.Either the wait staff is completely horrible which today the older lady that waited our table was absolutely phenomenal.She immediately saw that the food was raw and took it to the back.She ended up copping my coffee which was the only thing I had.Because we all know franchise.In a microwave is just disgusting. What used to be a great friendly restaurant? And I wanted to pass that experience on to my kids. I will not even step foot in that restaurant again. Because literally the past 2 times that I've been there. I've been throwing up. My uncle asked to go there today. So I picked him up and brought him, he had an egg omelet. After exploring Howe Caverns, we were looking for "real" food where we could sit and relax instead of a fast food grab and go option. Based on the Yelp reviews, we decided to try this cozy hometown diner. It did not disappoint! Our waitress was welcoming & friendly. She answered all questions and offered suggestions based on what we were in the mood for. I went with the Mac Attack Burger and my sister chose the Reuben. Both were served with French Fries. Once they hit the table they both looked so good we decided on halvsies so we could get a taste of each! Delicious!!! We were so full that we passed on dessert. However, on our way out we passed other customers receiving their desserts that we just had to have a taste. Luckily, they also offer their desserts off the side of the restaurant. My sister could not resist - lol. She ordered a squirt ice cream cone! The Cobleskill Diner is an iconic location in the town of Cobleskill. I have always had a high opinion of it. Today, when looking for a diner to get breakfast at, we decided to head over. My opinion has since changed quite a bit. Our waitress is not particularly friendly, and we sat for 45 minutes at a diner before receiving our food. She also did not come to check on us or ask how our food was the entire meal. I mean we are literally sitting here waiting to get a chance to ask for our check as I am writing this. It has been at least 10 minutes since we finished eating. When it did come out the sausage gravy and biscuits were already cold. The food was good but not spectacular and not worth the wait or price compared to other places. The environment is nice and I enjoy the many jokes that decorate the walls, but I am very disappointed with the experience especially considering that it is far more expensive than the other diner we eat at. read more

I finally found the worst diner ever. We waited an hour while seeing people that came after us get in before us. When we got into the diner, it was about half empty but they needed to give numbers out for waiting ??? The food was terrible, service was terrible. My wife asked for extra crispy bacon with her omelette, somehow it was almost raw, the toast had sauce drippings from someone else's food on it which should have never been served. My daughter ordered a tunas sandwich, they brought her a mayonnaise sandwich with a 1/8 tsp of tuna in it with stale chips. I don't think this place should be legally allowed to be a diner! 1 star is way too generous. read more

This was such a great experience for a diner that feels like it came straight out of the 1950s: "Give me a Pepsi Free: - "You want a Pepsi, pal, you're gonna pay for it." I had a roast turkey club and the turkey tasted fresh. The fries were a bit cold, but held up to some deep ketchup scooping. One star off for not having Heinz ketchup. A star back for carrying Pepsi products. They brought out some cole slaw for us to try. It would go really well on top of the turkey club with some russian dressing. The family tasted the macaroni salad and, after the first bite, looked like: a pack of wolves devouring its prey; a pack of zombies finding the cheerleader who twisted her ankle; or a bunch of sharks swarming around a clumsy overboard scuba diver with a deep bloody gash in their leg....you get it. Service was incredibly friendly and timely. I love the staff there as they seem to have the routine down pat and know their customers and what they need and when they need it. The cake in the cake plate looked a little sad - and maybe a little "too" homemade. Remember to tip well. read more

Extraordinary restaurant. From the beginning, Cobleskill diner had a laid-back, chill vibe. We walked in and a server in the back gestured for us to sit at a booth in the back, and there we sat. We first ordered the fried pickles and tossed salad. The salad was small, but well presented and proportioned. Good amount for one person. The fried pickles were irresistible, lightly fried so they were buttery but still had plenty of pickle flavor as well. For meals, we had the Angry Ray burger (ordered to split, arrived on two separate plates ) and the Smokey Gobbler sandwich. The burger was juicey incredibly flavorful. The most sincere chipotle flavoring I've ever had at a restaurant, with plenty of kick, well-topped with jalapeños. The sandwich was lighter in flavor, but even more crave-able. Everything was cooked to perfection, the fries especially. The french fries were homecut, and tasted such. But they were fried masterfully, achieving a texture that was simultaneously crunchy and soft. The ice cream is all soft serve (8 flavors I believe) but was served generously on both the cookie and brownie sundaes. Lastly, our waiter was very friendly, chatting with us about the menu items and overall extremely helpful. Food came out much faster than expected. If you like to eat inside a freezer, not be welcome and make feel like an inconvenience go to this "dinner", the food look like the plastic food that use in a toy kitchen and the taste was worse, server could care less doe our request and did whatever she want it and gave us a sandwich that look literally like plastic, did not ask for our choice of sides ignoring the fact we very clear said we had allergies, dropped the food like if we were getting it for free and never came back to ask if all was ok. Delicious food. We've been here once for breakfast and that was very good, but the dinner we just picked (an hour before they closed) was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend got the chicken teaser sandwich and it was cooked perfect, not too dry and very tasty breading. I ordered the meatloaf dinner and have never tasted anything as close to the world's best meatloaf in my life. It may not look like much in the picture but the flavor is savory and sweet and the gravy is perfect compliment. After having been seated, given menus, and had coffee poured , the waitress comes back to tell us it's a 25-minute wait to get breakfast. I'm sure, hoping that we would shrug off the wait that we're not initially told about. Upon telling us this, she hurriedly tells us she has to know now what our decision is. Again, certain we would acquiesce and just stay. When we decide that we don't want to wait that long for a meal that should take 10 minutes to prepare she says nothing, turns in a huff and leaves. I don't appreciate not being told about a wait that I'm sure was known about when I was seated and then to be dismissed so rudely, without so much as an apology is a terrible way to business. I assume that they count on the fact that they are the only diner in the area and have a "captive customer base" I am visiting the area so thankfully I never have to come back. This is a very nice small diner that's off the highway. The coffee is fresh, the food is comforting, and the service is great. I ordered some pancakes with potatoes and sausage links along with a coffee of the day. The pancakes were fluffy, soft and tasted much better with the syrup. The sausage links weren't frozen and were made on the spot. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. With a little salt and pepper, they were perfect. The coffee of the day was of a Mexican blend and tasted great on its own. Overall, a great experience and a place I will have to visit when I'm in town again. read more

Overpriced for what you get. Over $90 including tip for a three meal dinner with fountain drinks, no apps or dessert. The potatoes were ice cold. The mayo in the mac salad had separated. The pork chops were okay but bland, gravy tasted like it cane from a jar with little flavor. We've had good meals here before but it's very inconsistent unless you get breakfast. Love, love, love this diner. Food is always good. Because of that there is sometimes a wait but it is worth it. Fantastic service; our waitress (Donna) is exceptional; although all of them are great. Real food is served here. Not some fancy menu trying to be All things to everyone. Desserts are also home made and will blow you away. But beware they give you huge amounts of icecream and even have little doggie sundaes for our furry family members. I came to Cobleskill diner with a few co-workers after the holiday parade in town. The restaurant was somewhat busy but we were seated quickly. I ordered a half order of popcorn chicken and french fries. The food was hot, and it tasted good - I have no complaints. However, it took approximately 45 minutes for the food to come out (there were six of us). I don't know if this is an isolated incident, but next time, I'm definitely ordering ahead and taking my food to go. This is unrelated to my actual dining experience, and maybe this is what I get for complaining (in my head), but as soon as I walked into the parking lot, I immediately slipped on the ice and fell on my hip. I was fine but got a pretty nasty bruise. Based on it being located on a back road, I guess it doesn't get shoveled out much - hopefully something that will be fixed soon. read more

Consistently the best breakfast around. We come from Schenectady and it is well worth the trip. Eggs are delicious and the home fries are perfect. Belgian waffle with strawberries was amazing and we have never had a bad omelet. read more
